Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!
What Do You See Outside YOUR Open Window Today?
Remember: "When God closes a door, He always opens a window!" You never know what might be out there waiting for you!

Wednesday Treasures From Still Waters Pond and Beyond...
Just a little bit of this and that and some floral beauty while it lasts...
The other day I went to the Ladies' Bible Study, which is held at our church parsonage. The parsonage is currently not being used by our Pastor as he and his wife already have their own home. So our women's groups from the church use it for Bible Studies and other small group gatherings.
When I arrived I couldn't help but notice these beautiful camellias blooming in the garden. They needed to be noticed and appreciated before they totally drop to the ground. Some of these are already getting pretty wilted, but they still have a rich beauty even as they begin to fade.
There were still some buds waiting to open as well...still holding their fresh loveliness tightly until it is their time to blossom...
I'm so glad I took a few minutes to capture their beauty. It would be a shame for them to die before ever being noticed...
However, they are doing exactly what they were designed to do...they are "blooming where they are planted"...
This made me think of an old southern gospel song "Where the Roses Never Fade" You may want to sing along...
Where the Roses Never Fade
I am going to a city, Where the streets with gold are laid; Where the tree of life is blooming And the roses never fade.
Here they bloom but for a season Soon their beauty is decayed. I am going to a city, Where the roses never fade.
In this world we have our troubles, Satan snares we must evade. We'll be free from all temptations; Where the roses never fade.
Loved ones gone to be with Jesus, In their robes of white arrayed; Now are waiting for my coming, Where the roses never fade.
Here they bloom but for a season Soon their beauty is decayed. I am going to a city, Where the roses never fade.
I hope you enjoyed that old song and the beautiful flowers blooming here for a season. I know that I am truly looking forward to the day that I will be going to that city, "where the roses never fade".
Which reminds me, I wanted to thank you all for your kind words on my last post here... Yesterday (February 25th) was a difficult day for me in some ways, but writing about our son and sharing him with you and you responding with love and kindness really helped. Thank you for being such special friends.
One thing I did yesterday was take a little walk down my little path through the woods to Still Waters Pond so I could go check on the Sand Hill Crane nest. As I walked down that little path, I couldn't help but notice the carpet of little yellow flowers strewn all along the pathway...
It was almost like they were spreading out their golden beauty just for me to enjoy...
This sweet and simple little gift did not go unnoticed by me. I whispered a "thank you" to Jesus...
It's the simple little things that sometimes mean the most when we are paying attention to the ways God wants to bless us...
The trees above me were loaded with these lovely little Carolina Jessamine flowers, spreading a canopy of joy and beauty to shelter me as I walked through the woods...so wonderful...
Finally I made my way around the pond and just had to take a moment to breathe in the beauty of this spot as well...
That's what I call Goose Island, but there was no sign of the geese today...
But when I made it around to where I could see...there she was...Mrs. Crane, sitting there so pretty on her nest...enjoying the warmth of the afternoon sunshine...
Hello! I think she noticed that I was there...but she still wouldn't stand up to show me how many eggs she was sitting upon...
Ahhh! But who's that? Standing not too far away from her was her faithful mate of many years
He was preening himself while keeping a watchful eye on his lovely mate sitting on the nest...
I was actually a ways away, standing behind some bushes and trees along the shore of the pond where they couldn't really see me (but I think they knew I was there).
Mr. Crane stays very attentive to any possible intruders who may come calling, and he's always ready to send them away with a big swoosh of his powerful wings and a loud cry...
But all was peaceful today...and I guess I was just too early for the "changing of the guard" on the nest, so reluctantly I decided to head back home.
Apparently they were waiting for me to leave to make the big switch on the nest because it wasn't long before I saw Mrs. Crane back around by our house looking for birdseed, and so I gave her some to help her find something to eat quickly so she could get back to the nest again.
Here's some words of wisdom for today:
Psalm 32:7-8
"7 You are my hiding place;
You shall preserve me from trouble;
You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah
8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will guide you with My eye."
I hope you enjoyed these "treasures" for this Wednesday.
Thank you, Linda. I appreciate that, especially coming from you. I hope you are enjoying a wonderful time in the country this week. I hope the plumbing as been fixed by now and you are having a great time.
I enjoy seeing things like camelia's blooming in your area. They don't grow here, but I can enjoy them here! Kind of like people - God puts us each in the place where we can bloom! The pond pictures are always beautiful too!
The camellias are lovely, such a rich colour. It's a shame they don't last long and that they are so easily bruised. Watching developments with Mr and Mrs crane with interest.
Thank you! I will update as I have information! It's harder this year because I can't see their nest from my back yard like before, so it's harder to keep up with their activities. I may just have to be surprised one day when they bring their babies around to meet me!
I do love the flowers especially the first photo. Such rich colour. I also love the gospel song you shared. It always makes me cry though because I've lost so many loved ones. I know you've also lost loved ones. Some day we will all be reunited. Thank God for that. Hugs. xx
There will be a great reunion in the heavens one of these days! What a glorious day that will be!! Amen!! Thank you for writing and for being a dear friend.
I listened to the song and added it to my YouTube playlist. this is my kind of music and I felt like I was back in the 3 churches daddy pastored. Small under 100 member southern baptist churches and this was how the music sounded. old hymns and lots of harmony. I feel the same way you do when you saw the fallen yellow flowers, each time I stand staring at the weeds that my dishwater have encouraged to fill the dirt left by Milton, with a few sprays a week from hose and all my dish water tossed out 3 times a day, my DIRT is now weeds, white and pink and beautiful. Just Add Water to dirt and watch it grow.. back yard church. ha ha.
Like Sandra, I'm going to save this song! I'd not heard it before. I love how your eyes always notice the smallest of things along life's way. Those yellow flowers made me think of a bridal path/aisle.
I have heard that song before and loved it. The beauty of Stillwaters Pond is so calming to me, the love of the cranes for each other and the faithfulness they show each other is truly a gift from the Lord. Don't you wish that people were always so faithful? Take care my friend. Blessings, Betsy
I simply love how you always find the beauty of God's creation in everything around you, Pamela. We are so blessed that you share your photos and thoughts with us. This made my morning even brighter! Have a wonderful day!
Pam these definitely are Treasures. Your Pond is so beautiful and the wildlife is absolutely wonderful. I don't think I would ever want to go back inside. Its like the Lord just breathes over that water and then it fills your lungs. Pure Joy and a wonderful way to commemorate your son. (((hugs))) sue
Hi Pam. This is a lovely post in word and pictures. Your faith always bouys me up. Tender virtual hugs on the anniversary of the passing of your son. I know you will see you son again in God's timing.
Pam, I had got behind in my blog reading this week so only today did I read yesterday's post about Matthew's birthday, and then today's post.
These birthdays, anniversaries, and all the other "triggers" that pop up out of no where -- they can be quite a challenge as we manage our grief, even after some years have built up since their passing.
It is very sweet, and surely helpful, to be able to put something on his Facebook page even now. I did not think of that when my Tom passed and I closed out his page. But since we visit his grave relatively often, I do share my thoughts to/about him at that time.
As for the Camelias, Gary has about 5 of the bushes here. The flowers are so pretty, looking just like yours.
Be at peace and in comfort, dear friend. This time of separation from our dear ones is long and hard at times but you know, as I do, that one day this will all be behind us as we hug them in Heaven.
Thank you for visiting here today. I would love for you to sign my guestbook and let me know you stopped by. I always enjoy reading your comments and words of encouragement! May you be blessed as you go on your way. Please come back and visit again soon.
What a beautiful post!!! Thank you for the lovely words and pictures! I love looking through the windows of your world!!

Yes, the flowers on the path made me think the same thing...but we are the Bride of Christ, don't you know? That was His gift to me.
