Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Monday Monday...
So here's the scoop...pink was never my favorite color. It just didn't always compliment my fiery red hair and freckled face. (when I was younger, before my hair faded to whatever color it is now). So several years ago when my hubby bought me this pink bathrobe I was kind of ho-hum about it, wishing it was any color but pink. But then I put it on, and it was SO warm, and SO comfy, and so luxurious...well, I had to forgive it for being pink and just luxuriated in its warm embrace.
And yesterday when I was sitting in my recliner, covered with several blankets and still shivering...yes, I had the "chills" and fever, then hubby went to my closet and found this bathrobe and brought it to me, I gladly put it on and snuggled right down into its coziness, and promptly fell asleep in my chair. Hubby just showed me a picture that he surreptitiously took of me asleep in my chair, with my mouth hanging open, pale and wan with hair sticking out every which way, and I rejoiced that I never taught him how to get his pictures off of his phone and into my computer...so no, don't go looking for those pictures, because they won't be here. The description should be enough to scare you off anyway.
Yes, I am sick with a bug. Started Saturday night while I was sleeping, I woke myself up shivering...actually I was shivering so badly that I had what I would call "rigors"....severe chills that would not relax themselves until hubby brought me 5 blankets and I took extra strength tylenol and prayed I could get back to sleep. The only other symptoms I have had is a slight runny nose (clear), and an occasional cough that is not deep...more like an allergy than anything else, except for the fever.
Today I have felt some better. I think the fever broke during the night last night, although I've had a few residual "shivery moments". But I noticed that I really couldn't taste my lunch very well. Uh Oh.
So for supper I decided to cook some good old comfort food...smoked sausage and cabbage and mashed potatoes. I was concerned about losing my sense of taste and smell, but as I was sitting here writing to you I could sure smell that cabbage cooking, so that's a good sign!
So, I don't know if this is the dreaded "omicron" or just a bad flu virus...I don't intend to be "tested", but I have cancelled all appointments for the week and intend to stay right here, thankful for my pink bathrobe and recliner...and my hubby who is so thoughtful. I hope he doesn't get this bug too, but he does seem to have a bit of a runny nose and slight cough right now too...so we shall see. I may have to find his beautiful red plaid flannel LLBean bathrobe that is hanging somewhere in his closet...
Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers. I do believe we will be fine, and am very thankful that it doesn't appear to be too serious.
I hope you are all safe and warm and cozy in your homes...I know many are experiencing really cold wintry weather right now. We had high winds, rain, and dropping temps yesterday and today is still windy and pretty cold for us here in Florida. But nothing like what many of you are having.
So take care, and God bless you all.

Pam: I am sorry to hear that you have a "bug". Take care of yourself. You did the right thing in cancelling your activities for the week. I am getting ready to go for my first physical therapy session. It's a late appointment. A lot of people at church wore masks yesterday, more than usual. Peace and blessings.
ReplyDeleteOh, I hope your PT session went well yesterday and that it will be helpful for you. Yes, a lot of people seem to be catching this bug, whatever it is. Not sure if it is the O bug or just a regular bug, but either way, I'm not taking any chances and we are just taking it easy the rest of the week. We are feeling some better this morning, but still need to rest. Thank you for your kind thoughts.
DeleteIF you get to coughing really bad ---please I urge you to head in the dr.'s. I am glad to read the fever broke, it might just be a bug and not the virus. Not all folks lose the smell or taste. Unfort. I strongly believe every single human being will catch the virus at some point.
ReplyDeleteI shall keep you in prayer, sweet friend.
I am not coughing much at all, and John coughed a lot last night, but is quiet this morning. I think we are going to be fine, just need to rest and drink lots of fluids and take it easy for a few days. We are very thankful. Oh, BTW, it is 32 here this morning. Just thought you'd like to know. I know, that is still pretty warm for you! LOL. Take care and keep moving forward one step at a time. Love you.
DeleteOh no, Pam! On top of your neck issues, too! Praying right this minute for your speedy recovery! You know, Tom used to get those 'rigors' as well every now and then. Said he felt like the cold was coming from deep inside; I've never seen anything like it before. That sausage and cabbage looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Myra. I am feeling better this morning, and John seems to be fairing pretty well. We are just going to stay inside and take it easy the rest of this week. And yes, the sausage and cabbage helped make us feel better. God is good.
DeleteGet well soon!☕️
ReplyDeleteI like the pink bathrobe.
Thank you, Sandy. I do feel better this morning, and I pray we are on the upswing now. I'm glad you like my pink bathrobe. I actually love it now too...it does the job it was intended to do and that's all that matters. God is good and I am very thankful.
DeleteOops, that should have said, "Thank you, Sandi". I have another Sandy below here. Ha Ha! Getting my Sandi's and Sandy's mixed up. I think I have another friend on blogging that is a Sandi also. Popular name!
DeleteI was actually Sandy to begin with, but in the 6th grade Little Orphan Annie's dog made me change it from a y to an i. 😄
DeleteJust came back to check in on you. Glad you are feeling better. I am praying for you.
Ha Ha! That is a good reason to change the spelling of your name! LOL. The dog made you do it! LOL.
DeleteDo take care! The big "O" seems to running around here. Several at school have had it where Katie works. She had something similar to you and tested negative for it. Who knows? Paul Allen had four in his area of maintenance with it also, but so far he has been good. Jeff had someone come down with it in his office so it is coming as they said. Wear that cozy robe for sure and stay inside and rest. Why don't they make those cozy robes in some better colors. Mine is a mint green and I am not all that fond of it but like you I wear because it is so warm and cosy. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI have not been tested, and I guess I don't see any reason to do so since we aren't going anywhere anyway. I just don't feel like going through all that just to become a statistic. but if we get worse, I might. Yes, I think it is going around everywhere, but it is so much like the regular old flu virus or cold virus. I am thankful we are not worse. Yes, I am wearing my robe and drinking hot tea and lots of water and just taking it easy. I bet your mint green robe is warm and cozy too. I guess when we need warmth, who cares about color? Have a blessed and wonderful day.
DeletePamela, I hope and PRAY you feel better soon! I love nice warm bathrobes. That cabbage and sausage looks yummy! I posted some more BW pics. BIG gentle hugs that you feel better. We have been in the deep freeze. Today was 60 and spose to be nice tomorrow by thur 15 *BURRRR* Love n prayers Gina
ReplyDeleteI must get over to see your new pictures. I hope you are doing well, and that you are staying nice and warm even though it is so cold. IT is 32 here right now, won't get out of the 50's, which is cold for us. I guess winter finally arrived. Take care and thank you again.
Deletethank you for stopping by! I just posted the ones for 16,17, and 18 Black and whites. I hope you are feeling better big gentle hugs
DeleteOh no, do take care and seek medical help if you need it. I smiled at your story about the pink robe. Pink just happens to be my favorite color. I actually ordered a pink sheet set today.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ruth. Yes, if we don't start feeling better or get worse, I will definitely call the Dr., but I think we are on the upswing and I don't think there is much they would do for us anyway. Oh, I bet your pink sheets will be so pretty!! I personally just don't "think pink" much when it comes to color, but then again when I see pretty pink flowers or other things I always think they are beautiful. I just don't like pink on me. LOL. Enjoy your new sheets!!
DeleteOh my, Pam! I hope you are feeling better this evening and the your hubby doesn't get worse. I just cooked cabbage and smoked sausage but I put an onion and some bell peppers in with it, too. One of my favorite dinners! My DIL's daughter tested positive for covid so it is assumed her beau has it too. I'm so glad I didn't go last weekend. So many are sick right now. We only had 47 at church - half of our usual. Do take care!! Prayers lifted!! xo
ReplyDeleteOh, your dinner sounds good too! I am sure that would add more flavor to the cabbage dish. I may try that sometime when I'm not sick. Mainly I just wanted that good cabbage juice...there is something healing about that. Oh, I am sorry to hear about your DIL's daughter and beau. I hope they will recover soon, and yes, I'm glad you didn't go up there. Yes, I heard our church only had about 52 this week, which is way down. Many were sick, but also it was pouring down rain and so windy right about church time, so I am sure that is what kept many home who are elderly. (which most of our church members are elderly...like us! LOL) Thank you for your prayers. I think we are on the upswing now. God is good.
DeletePraying for you to be better soon!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jan. I believe we are on our way to recovery. Just need to take it easy for a few days and stay away from people. But we are VERY thankful!!
DeletePam, I am so sorry you are sick and that John may be a little under the weather, too. You are handling it well, whatever it is. Your cabbage dinner looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYou still have your sense of humor in this! I laughed when you said you had never taught John how to get his pictures off his phone and onto your computer.
Your pink bathrobe looks perfect for your needs right now. I am praying this bug is short-lived and you both feel wonderful very soon.
Thank you, Barbara. We are doing pretty well, all things considered. Just very thankful...and yes, the cabbage and sausage and mashed potatoes had "healing powers" sent from God. And the pink bathrobe worked wonders. And yes, I hope John never figures out how to get his pictures off his phone and sent anywhere else. He LOVES to take pictures of me when I'm not aware, and they are not usually very flattering, but for some reason he just loves them. LOL. As long as he keeps them to himself, that is fine, but if someone ever finds his phone and looks at his pictures, they may say, "oh that poor man sure has an ugly wife." LOL. God is good and we are very very thankful to be on the upside of this I believe...
DeleteIt sounds like you are recovering, thank goodness. I think the luxurious pink robe has healing powers. The cabbage and sausage makes me want to cook that.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terra. Yes, I believe we are recovering. God has been very gracious to us. And yes, I am certain the pink robe does have healing powers! LOL. So does the cabbage and sausage...and don't forget the mashed potatoes! It's all a part of God's marvelous healing, and we are very very glad. Thank you.
DeleteYou know you are in my prayers, Pam! Drink lots of water/tea and stay snug in that gorgeous robe. Feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteBlessings?
OH,Martha! Such a BLESSING to see your smiling face here once again!! Praise God!! I am so thankful that God has restored you to good health and that you are able to get back to doing the things you love, but take it easy and don't go too fast. I am having a cup of tea right now as I write. God is good. I do feel better this morning. Hubby has a bit of a cough, but nothing too serious. so we are very very grateful.
DeleteTry not to worry about anything and just rest! Lots of hot tea and let someone else make you some soups. I'll keep you in my prayers. One of my sons is sick too so please say a prayer for him. Stay warm! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteThank you, Diane. Yes, we are resting and drinking tea and water and good old "Campbell's Chicken Noodle" soup has been my friend for a few days. Oh, I am sorry to hear your son is sick. I pray he will soon be well and that he doesn't have it too severely. Yes, staying warm is a trick these days. Are you still out hiking? Yesterday was so cold and windy, I kind of doubt it. We are staying wrapped up in blankets and my pink bathrobe and staying warm and cozy. Thank you again. Yes, I will pray for your son.
DeleteI was thinking about you today and saw you over at Nana Diana's. I hope you are feeling better every day. Thank you so much for the prayers. And yes, we hiked yesterday...it was 60 and sunny so really nice. Take care of yourself and get well soon! Hopefully the sun will warm the house today.
DeleteThe cabbage combo looks so yummy. We might have something similar tonight.
ReplyDeleteUsually, I get these head cold thingys, like clockwork. I don't know why I haven't had the cough yet. But so so sorry y'all do whatever it is. If we lived closer, I'd bring ya hot food and help. I pray you're well soon.
Sending Love & Prayers xx
I hope you don't get this bug, whatever it is. I am not terrible sick sick, just don't feel very good and want to sleep a lot since I had that fever. I don't have much of a cough, but I sound kind of stuffy. Just achy and tired. Hot food sounds good. I wish you were closer. But actually we are doing fine in the food dept. Really don't have much of an appetite. I just had some jello, and that was good. Thank you for your prayers and support. I do wish you were closer, and when Linda moves down, we'd all get together regularly for food and fellowship and encouraging each other. That would be so nice. Thank you for being a friend. We Pamela's have to stick together!
DeleteI am sorry you are so sick. I have only ever had chills like that once that I can remember. It is a weird feeling to not be able to still your body and stop shaking.
ReplyDeleteHoping you are on your way to wellness...and would LOVE to have that pink robe! xo Diana
Yes, the chills were very "chilling". I almost thought I was having some kind of seizure or something because I just couldn't stop shaking, but finally after five blankets and prayer, I calmed down and was able to sleep awhile. Haven't had them since, but am doing a lot of resting/naps/hot tea/soup. etc. And the Pink Robe was a life saver! You can't have it! LOL. But if you were here and needed it I would certainly let you wear it. LOL. Thank you for your prayers and kind words. xoxox
DeleteDear Pam...praying for you! There is so much sickness in our community again. Some, the dreaded virus, some tested positive for flu and some a stomach bug. Lordy, Lordy. All we can do is the best we know how to do. Stay covered up in that sweet warm pink robe! That cabbage and sausage looks so good!!!!! Praying for total healing! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your prayers, Cindy. Yes, there is a lot going around in our community and our church too. I am thankful it really isn't too terrible now that the fever is broken. Just want to sleep a lot and don't have much energy or appetite, but really nothing else too bad. Very thankful. God is so good. Hubby is also sick and has a little more of a cough than I do, but still it isn't terrible. We are very blessed. Thank you for praying.
DeleteSo sorry to hear that your sick. It does sound like omicron because we have three family members who have similar symptoms like you. I wouldn't get tested either. It will pass. You take care and I'll be praying for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you Debby. Yes, I don't know what it really is because it isn't all that severe now that the fever is gone. Just very tired and not much appetite, but that's about it. Hubby is coughing some but not bad. We just take lots of naps and drink lots of fluids. We are very thankful.
DeleteSo glad you have that warm pink robe! Nothing like some creature comforts when we are feeling down and out!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anne. Yes, that is the truth...I'm taking advantage of every creature comfort I can right now! LOL. It does help!
DeleteI"m so sorry to hear you are sick. Hopefully it's not Covid although I'm hearing from many around here who have (or have had) it that the latest variant is like a really bad cold or the flu and lasts 5-6 days depending. I keep praying over hubby and me and our grands....son and DIL have already had it. I'm so weary of it and knowing how many people are sick or could become sick. Pink isn't "my color" either but a snuggly, soft, warm robe (especially when you are sick)...who cares what color!!! Sure hope each day sees you better and that your hubby is ok too:)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cheri. I suppose we ought to have been tested, but it's probably too late now anyway. We both seem to have like you said, a bad cold or flu. Hubby has a dry incessant cough but no congestion. We are just resting, staying home, and trying to be as comfy as possible under the circumstances. Thank you for your kind thoughts.
DeleteSure hope you are already feeling better. Oh the loveliness of a cozy, pink bathrobe!! Take it easy - and enjoy all the cozy you can for awhile!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jennifer. I am feeling better day by day, and yes, the cozy pink bathrobe has been a comfy joy for me. I am very very thankful!
DeleteOh gosh I am so sorry you are sick my sweet friend! I just saw this today, but I will be praying for you both. Being sick is no fun no matter what it's called! God bless you both, and I love you!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew who this was who is my "sweet friend" and who also says "I love you!" Please give me a clue as to who you are so I can fully appreciate how sweet YOU are! Thank you for this comment and your prayers are always welcome. We are getting better day by day. God is taking good care of us, and so are our kids. We are blessed to have them nearby to drop things off like crackers and OJ and a surprise rotisserie chicken! God is good.
DeleteThat pink bathrobe sure had its day, Pamela, and nice that it was so comfy and warm but then you also had a lot of blankets too. Hope that both you and John will be feeling better day-by-day. There's nothing better than comfort foods at times of feeling poorly but the problem is getting up to prepare them!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, BPB. Yes, I have been very comfy and warm...and we are feeling better each day. John did go to the Dr. today and got some meds since he is coughing so much. Hopefully we will BOTH sleep better tonight. And thankfully I've been able to get up and do a little this and that, cooking, laundry, etc., but then I get right back down and take a little nap. Today my sweet DIL surprised us with a rotisserie chicken! That was a big plus!! She's a sweetheart!! We are blessed and very thankful. God is good.
DeleteThankful for vaccine…prayers
