Good Thursday Morning Delights

Good Morning! It's been a bit of a busy week, with something going on every day, so I feel like I am running a bit behind in my visits with you!

So why don't we just sit down in my "Room with a View"

and have a cup of tea and visit for a while?  Of course, it is still early early morning, and the sun has not yet come up, so my "room with a view" doesn't have a view outside just yet, but we can be cozy here and enjoy chatting.
Actually, I am having a very weak cup of hot tea this morning, with no sugar added.  I am going to be going for a CT Scan in a little while, testing for that pesky diverticulitis that was bugging me to find out what's going on in there.  I'm not supposed to have anything to eat or drink except water since midnight last night, but I needed just a wee little bit of hot tea to get my morning started just right. My test isn't until 11:30, and at 9:30 I have to drink my first "barium smoothie", and then again another one at 10:30. You know I am looking forward to that like a hole in my head, so I'd rather be sitting here visiting with you.

Here's the "view" to my right...you've probably seen these pictures before. Just a little bookshelf with interesting little books on it and few doodads and special things that have some kind of significance to me.  Of course you've seen that picture of "My Three Sons" before too.

And hanging on the wall up in front of me next to the window is a "collage" of some of my favorite nature photos that I took at our last home in the forest, with the exception of the Barred Owl. That came from another time and another place that was significant...and actually, I believe my sister took that picture, but I've kept that copy to remind me of my special "relationship" with the Barred Owls.

Here's another picture of one of our bears from our home in Salt Springs. That little guy was trying to figure out just how to get at that bird seed. In one of the pictures above, you can see that he was successful. After than incident, I had to move my bird feeder into an enclosed fenced area, but alas, there were a few times that even a tall wooden fence could not keep out a hungry bear!
I do miss seeing our little "critters" that frequently roamed about our house there, but the benefits to living here where we are now outweigh the joys of living with nature that we had there...so here we are.

And God has delighted us with some new kinds of wildlife here on Still Waters Pond!
Yes, the geese have been coming back more frequently lately. That is always something to celebrate!

Yes, these are the sights I can often enjoy from my "Room with a View" when the sun comes up!

But back to the current view...
Around behind my chair are these wonderful portraits of my maternal grandparents:

Yes, they are sitting on the floor right now, because I am not sure where will be the best place to hang them.  But aren't they wonderful? Recently the wife of one of my cousins passed away. My cousin had already passed several years ago, and so their children were cleaning out their home. The children were born after the time of my grandparents, and so they never knew them, and really didn't have any interest in keeping these portraits. So my cousin's son called me and asked me if I would be interested in having them!  Would I!!!???

My lovely grandmother Flora Sheets Tedlie

And my handsome Grandpa Benton F. Tedlie

I knew that my sister already had my mother's copies of these portraits that I remembered hanging on the wall of our home for many many years. I had always wanted a copy for myself, and so was very thrilled to receive these.

And that's not all!  He asked if I would be interested in having these very old books, which originally had belonged to my Aunt Margie and Uncle Ed (my mother's oldest sister and husband).  Actually, I remember having these books in our house when I was growing up. I think my Aunt and Uncle had given them to our family to enjoy after their sons were done with them.  Somehow, apparently my parents had given them back to my cousin's family after we were done with them so their children could enjoy them.  And now they came back to my family...full circle.  They are very old and not in perfect condition, but they are treasures for sure:

Sometime perhaps I will do a little more of a close up of each book so you can see the wonderful pictures and stories from the past. A couple of these books may be totally lost to our civilization today, due to things like "political correctness" or "censorship", and so I will hang on to these all the more as the stories were very wonderful and important stories.

Well, my friends, the sun is starting to rise and I must get a move on if I am going to accomplish much today besides drinking chalky milkshakes and having pictures taken of my innards.  I am not too worried about the results of this...just routine tests, but still...you know what I mean. So a little prayer is always welcome.

Meanwhile, what fun things can you find to "delight in" today?

"I sought the Lord, and He heard me,
And delivered me from all my fears."
Psalm 34:4

I'll try to get back with you all later!! Have a blessed and beautiful day!!!

  1. I was going to comment on the three sons (you'll all be together again one day) and the teapot on the shelf (💙) and even the barium smoothy (yuck), but then I saw the bears and I am screaming and running, so...

    1. You are so funny!!! Obviously they were all very "tame", or else I would not have been able to take their pictures...LOL. (from a distance).

  2. You do have a handsome family. What a blessing to have photos of some of your ancestors. I wish I had such a treasure. When I put Steve's Hudson family together, we were fortunate to find other cousins that had old, old photos of his family line. It was so exciting and heartwarming. God is so merciful and I give Him the glory for all these good things.
Really enjoyed this post. I hope your day, and the rest of the week, are super blessed. xx

    1. Always remember, Sparky, that you have a very beautiful family...as you are a part of God's wonderful family, and there could be NO family more "handsome" than that! He has placed you in a wonderful home and with many people who love you...more than you know. You are God's beloved child, in whom He is well pleased. And I look forward to meeting you face to face one of these days, maybe sooner than we all think if Linda and Dave move more quickly than originally planned. Really looking forward to that day! (((hugs))) to you dear Pamela.

  3. I read this post at 10:50am. You should be having that test within the hour. I am praying the doctor sees what needs to be known and that you heal up quickly.

Your home, as always, is very homey and inviting. Love you, girl!

    1. Thank you, Barbara. Yes, I survived the test (and the barium smoothies!). Not sure when I'll hear from the Dr., but I do have an appt. the middle of Feb., so then, if not sooner. I feel confident there is nothing seriously wrong...just gotta get things back in proper rhythm. Thank you on your kind words re: home. Of course my "room with a view" towel came from YOU, along with several other special ones. I think of you and pray for you when I look at these things. You are a very special lady...and I am so happy for you to be happy again. God is so good.

  4. Oh yuck, barium smoothies! I hope you got them choked down and the test went well and show what your doctor needs to see. The wildlife photos, then and now, are always wonderful. Perhaps you'll be adding one of a gator soon. Didn't that workman tell you there were signs of one in your pond? I kind of hope not, though, for the sake of the geese and their babies. The photos and books are wonderful! Real treasures for sure. Please do hang on to the books. I have some that fall into the politically incorrect category, too, but they are a part of history and history should not be erased. When I heard the cancel culture had turned on 'Gone With the Wind' I ran out and bought myself a copy of the movie. I already owned the book. Tests aside, I hope your day is a "delight."

    1. Thank you so much, Stacy. Yes, I managed to "choke down" the barium smoothies...at least most of it...the CT Tech said they could see all they needed to see, so apparently I got enough down. LOL. Oh, yes, the tree man did say he saw a large gator in our pond, but I still have not heard or seen any sign of it. I think he was seeing things. If there is one out there the geese and Sand Hill Cranes don't seem to care. Yes, I do intend to hang on to those books, or at least try to keep them in the family. They are very special. Oh, I do have an old copy of GWTW, but I don't have the movie. Now you are making me wish I did. But then again, I'm not sure I'd sit through the whole movie again...but then again...well, I might. LOL. Anyway, now I am having a real cup of hot tea and yes, my day is a "delight". God is good. And I am very thankful!!

  5. I am reading your blog in the early afternoon (2:03 P M ). I have your name on my prayer list from your neck surgery. I was praying around the time you had your test. I was baking blue berry muffins earlier.(That was my fun thing to do this morning.) Peace and blessings.

    1. Thank you so much, Cecelia, for your prayers. I managed to get through the test with no problems. Now I await the results. Oh, blueberry muffins sure sound good! I haven't made any in a while...now I think I might have to do that soon. I do have some frozen blueberries from this past summer. Thank you again for your kind thoughts and prayers. They mean a lot!

  7. I'm loving your old books. What a wonderful treasure. I still have several of mine from childhood, Uncle Wiggily, and Grimms Fairy tales. I am 82, so you know they are from a LONG time ago...Thanks for sharing, I always enjoy reading your blog.

    1. Oh, Bonnie, how wonderful for you to visit! I remember Grimms Fairy Tales. I know my parents had a wonderful old book of that, and I remember reading it as a child...and yes, Uncle Wiggly too! I'm not THAT much younger than you. We were blessed to have such interesting stories in our childhood. I do hope you will come back and visit again soon!

  8. How absolutely wonderful to have those pictures of your grandparents, Pam! I can see you in your grandmothers portrait! I always enjoyed the pictures you shared from the cameras at your other home. The bears were especially interesting to see and I loved the ones when they went "swimming" in the baby pool you put out for them! Always a fun visit here! Love & hugs!

    1. Oh, bless you, Terri, for saying you can see me in my grandmother's portrait! That is so sweet of you to say. I can see it sometimes in fleeting glimpses in the mirror, but mostly I think I look more like my father (and these are my mother's parents). My mother definitely looked a lot like her mother, and they were both so lovely. I am thrilled to have these pictures. Yes, I wish I could get some pictures of bears swimming in the little pool again! Those were fun days. At least we have geese and Sand Hill Cranes here to watch swimming about, and now the Bluebirds are starting to show up again...so I am content with that. But I'm glad I have lots of pictures of the bears to remember them by. Hope you have a safe and warm visit in GA this weekend. I think it is supposed to get pretty cold, so go prepared. But have fun.

    1. Thank you, Debby. Yes, the books are keepers! I hope they last a while longer. They are in very fragile condition and are over 100 years old (some of them). But they are such treasures that you can't find anymore. And yes, I hope the test comes out okay. I won't know until I hear from the Dr., but I feel confident all is well. Thank you.

  10. I hope everything went well today! And I LOVE seeing your old books! I collect old books, especially children's books. I have a lot of the old readers from school too that I buy from book sales and Etsy. I love them SO much! Love looking at your bookcases and all the pretty things! Have a beautiful afternoon!

    1. Thank you, Diane. I know you would love to see these old books. They are in fragile condition as some are well over 100 yrs. old! But they are such treasures. Yes, everything went well today. The scan itself only lasted about 10 minutes. It was just the drinking of that "milkshake smoothie" that got to me. Not exactly a Dairy Queen treat. LOL.

  11. So glad to hear those awful smoothies and your test are over! I'm really touched by your cousin's son reaching out to you -- v. just discarding everything. How elegant your grandparents look! Wouldn't they be so tickled to know you're planning to display them? And those books! Oh my word, they unleashed so many memories of my own happy times, 'losing' myself in the printed words. Delightful post, my friend!

    1. I'm so glad you appreciate these old books! They really are treasures. You just can't find these anymore. And yes, my grandparents were very "elegant". That's a good word to describe them, even though they were also very downhome kind of people. My grandmother was so lovely when she was younger. And yes, I want to display these, but haven't decided yet exactly where. My walls are getting a bit crowded as it is. But they deserve a special place. I enjoy seeing these pictures because I grew up with the same portraits on the walls in our own home, and I always loved to see them, and my mother was SO very proud of those pictures. Thank you for enjoying them with me.

    1. Thank you, Gina. I am glad you enjoyed the photos. And yes, it was wonderful to receive these special family "treasures". I wish my boys were still little enough to enjoy those stories like I did as a child. Maybe some day there will be great-grandchildren to read them to...if the books last that long. They are VERY old, and not in great shape, but yet too good to let go of. Thanks for visiting. Looking forward to meeting your new "kids". (Sarah's new siblings).

  14. Thanks for sharing this early morning time with us, Pamela, and for showing these wonderful treasures. My favorite here are those photos of your maternal grandparents. What a wonderful surprise to have been offered these and also all those picture books which are sure to bring back many childhood memories. I read in your reply to Barbara's comment that you completed the testing and hope you hear good results in Feb.

    1. Thank you, "Beatrice". I am glad you could join me in my early morning reverie. Yes, I was thrilled to have all of these things sent to me. I was sorry that none of their immediate family wanted them, but I do understand that they really never knew our grandparents since there were born "too late", so they just didn't seem to have the significance to them that they do to me. I remember my grandparents well, but we still didn't get to be together very often because we lived in Florida and they were in Ohio and not in great health. But I know my mother would be happy that I also have these portraits. And the books. Yes, the testing went smoothly...just don't know the results yet. I was glad to get that over with. I don't enjoy drinking that kind of "milkshake". LOL.
