Tuesday 4 and Other Delights!

Here's some things that have brought some "delight" to my days:

This Amaryllis plant that I just planted last week from a bulb in a box/kit:

Yes, it already has three blossoms, and I think there might be one more hiding in there:

Amazing! Delightful!

And today, when we took our usual morning walk, I was shocked to see these wild plum trees are already blooming!  I guess because we had such a warm spell the last few weeks they thought it was spring!

I just hope that doesn't mess up its fruit development!
But aren't these little blossoms so delightful?

Now, talking about something to really bring you some joy and delight...

I must apologize for not keeping up with the Tuesday 4 earlier today, and I am way behind in keeping up with my friends' posts and comments.  I've been dealing with a little bit of "illness" this past week...had an apparent flare up of diverticulitis and had to go on some strong medicines...which actually caused me to have a worse problem so I had to quit taking it...and I go back to the Dr. tomorrow to figure out what's going on. I am actually starting to feel better, but not totally...so we shall see what we shall see. The only funny part of this whole episode was last week when the Dr. prescribed these medicines for me, "cipro and flagyl"...all I could hear in my mind was my dear mother in law saying those two names with such disgust and disdain! She had to take them quite often for the same problem, and she absolutely hated to even hear the names of those medicines...but it kind of became a family joke about "Nanny and her cipro and flagyl".  She was quite the character and made everything more "interesting" with her reactions and expressions.  Anyway, I told my Dr., "Oh No! I'm becoming my mother in law!" and had a good laugh.  I'm sure I'll be fine...just need to watch what I eat...and you know how hard that it around the holidays!

So anyway, here's the Tuesday 4 for this week. I'm not sure I have much to share on this one, but I'll give it a try.

Tuesday 4: Linens and Things.. January White Sales
Each week we offer 4 questions for you to ponder, think over, blog about or ignore if you like! We keep up the tradition begun by Toni Taddeo!

Here are this week's..... all about January Linens.

1. White month is in January when towels, sheets and household goods go on sale. Do you replace old sheets and towels each year? If not when?  No, I don't replace old sheets and towels each year. I wish I did, and I wish I could. But has anyone priced linens lately? It would take a pretty good "White Sale" to make them affordable again.  I replace them when they wear out.

2. How many sets of sheets and towels do you feel a household need and how often should they be changed on the bed and on the bathroom towel rack? Well, I think you should have at least two sets of sheets per bed, and at least two or three sets of towels per person times the number of bathrooms you have. I probably have more than that, but I also have a lot of old towels that could probably be used for rags.  I change the bed linens once a week, and I wash our bathroom towels, dish towels, etc., every other day. If we have guests in the house, they get the best and newest towels.

3. Do you think the January sales are a bit too close to Christmas when people have spent their money? If you do, what month would be an ideal time to replace linens and things in the home?
It would be nice if they would have "white sales" more frequently than just January. Maybe springtime would be a good time, and then again around Labor Day.

4. There is something so lovely about a linen closet with beautifully folded sheets, towels and blankets. Some place lavender in the closets for a relaxing beautiful scent. What do you do to make your linens nice? Fabric softener? Lavender? Special folds? Of is you linen closet in serious need of some tender loving care right now? I do not have a "lovely linen closet" in one location, but do have closets in our bathrooms where we can keep towels.  The bedsheets I have to keep in our bedroom closets or in a drawer in a dresser. I do love the scent of lavender on sheets...and it's been a while since I gave that much thought or attention since we moved to this house. This has inspired me to pay a little more attention to this subject.  I used to love to hang sheets out on the line in the spring and summer, but I don't have a clothesline here and I miss that. There is nothing sweeter than fresh sheets that were dried on the clothesline.

Here's another post I wrote about this quite a long time ago.  You might enjoy the poem that was included in this post.

Okay, this was fun and delightful! Hope you enjoyed it as well!  And thank you, Annie, for being our hostess with the mostest on Tuesday 4 each week!

He crowns the humble with victory."

  1. Your Amaryllis is gorgeous! WoW, that it grew and bloomed so quick. My SIL has them planted along the side of her house, just beautiful to look at when in bloom. I agree with you about linens, I replace mine when they are worn out. I also keep 2 sets of sheets for each bed. I need to visit Lily Grace, I'll try to make her way.

    1. Thank you! Yes, the amaryllis was already trying to bloom in the box. I was afraid it's growth would be stunted, but nope...it's going great guns! Oh, please do visit Lily Grace. She loves to have you visit! Take care and have a wonderful week.

    1. Yes, I love the feel and smell of clean linens. I wish I could hang them out to dry but don't have a clothesline here. I miss that fresh scent! I hope you have a wonderful week too.

  3. Hope that you are well on the path to good health without the dreaded meds. (My dear mother would probably agree.)

    1. Thank you, Vee. I know I just need to really watch what I eat and not get myself into trouble again! Ah, your mother must have had similar issues! Yes, it seems to come with age...but I'm not that old...LOL. AT least I don't think I am...

  4. So sorry you have diverticulitis on top of everything else. Seems that since Steve started eating keto he doesn't have any more problems with that nor the colon cancer the kept cropping up. (Maybe the sugar & carbs aggravated the symptoms? I don't know.) He gets checked real soon. I PRAY it's all gone. And your's too. I pray you have no problems and not have to take any yucky med's.
I can't get excited about linen's and towels. I only change them when they wear out and I don't make a fuss about how they're arranged in the closet(s). The old ones get recycled into the rag bin.
Get well soon and blessings to you all. xx

    1. I think my problem was too many "delightful" foods to pass up over the holidays...too many things with nuts and sugar and spice, etc. and yes, I am sure that is what aggravated my situation. I don't eat a lot of sweets and even on holidays I try to keep it in moderation, but apparently my system is getting more cantankerous as I get older and I will have to be more careful. Thank you for the prayers. I do feel better today, but still must go see the Dr. for follow up. I agree with you about linens and towels. However, my rag bin is getting larger than my linen closet. LOL. God bless you and Steve...and I pray his colon situation is all cleared up as well.

  5. Line dried sheets smell so good! I say I wish I could have a clothesline, but when I was young and we had no dryer, I only liked line drying when the weather was good. Winter line drying gets a little unpleasant.(Especially since at the time I was using cloth diapers which had to be laundered whether the weather was good or not)

    1. Well, I love drying sheets on the line, but only in spring and summer and fall. Not winter, although here in Florida that really isn't a problem too much. But I prefer the dryer for everything else and I would not ever want to go back to not having a dryer. I know, I've been there and done that too! Oh, but weren't cloth diapers so nice on our babies? Yes, they were a hassle to take care of, but when I think of the expense of disposable diapers and what they are doing to our landfills, well...I wish more young mothers had the option of cloth diapers...but so many have to work and it would be really difficult to manage. I guess I'm glad I don't have to worry about that today...

  6. I hope the digestive problem clears up soon! That kind of illness tends to keep one close to home, which makes it hard to get things done.

  7. I'm so sorry you've been sick. I hope you feel better each day! It really has been warm and humid and we've seen so many mushrooms in the woods lately. Have a good day! Hope you can sit in the sun some today! Hugs, Diane

    1. Thank you, Diane. I went to the Dr. today, and he has ordered a CT scan to determine what is going on, so whenever that gets scheduled we will hopefully get some answers. Meanwhile, I am starting to feel better. yes, it's been lovely...although yesterday and today have been pretty cool, but still nice. I did go outside and sit on the swing for a while and enjoyed the cool breezes. We are blessed to live here in the winter!

  8. This is Danny, Martha's husband. Martha is in the hospital with bacterial pneumonia. It's going to be a while before she is back blogging or reading blogs. She asked me to let you know what was going on. How we got into this situation, I do not know. It is not covid related. Please say a prayer for her, she could really use the help.

May the Lord give you both strength for each day. Amen.

  9. The Amaryllis is stunning. Blooming already. We have had some strange things with our plants and trees this year too. True, sheets and towels are very expensive. The lavender sounds like good idea.

    1. Thank you, Debby. I am still amazed at this amaryllis. Today the third bloom is open and beautiful too, and another one is starting to pop up. Oh, and yes, lavender is the one fragrance I can abide. I am very sensitive to scents and there are only a few I can stand. Lavender is very calming. Have a blessed and wonderful week.

  10. I am in awe of your Amaryllis . The sunlight over there must be so much stronger, as here, mine grow at least two feet tall before producing flowers. Changing linens every year? That would make me broke very quickly. Hope you feel better soon.

  11. I noticed blooming trees today on my way to work. Hoping we don't get our usual late January/early February freeze to kill the blooms (and fruit). The Tuesday 4 was interesting. I can't afford new sheets either, Pam. Just keep using the old ones (which are fine). Love & hugs!

  12. I love my clothesline! It is my favorite thing when the weather is beautiful to hang sheets outside. Your Amaryllis is so beautiful. we have so many sets of sheets. But with the bed we have now we have to have split king so I think we have 4 sets because two were gifted to us. We love it. Towels I think wear out faster. SO we replace them every few years. I am so happy I stopped by. I hope your weekend will be a great one. Glad to hear you are doing so well after your surgery. Pray for Jake, our son-in-law. He has another shoulder surgery on January 13th. Thank you. LOVE to you

    1. I will be praying for Jake. Shoulder surgery is painful, especially the recovery. A man in our church recently had that, and it took him quite a while to get full range of motion back. I currently am going through physical therapy for a frozen shoulder, and it is amazing how much we need the full range of motion from our shoulder to accomplish things. So I will be praying for Jake. Let us know how he is doing.

  13. I agree that spring would be better for white sales! I buy sheets at TJ Maxx and Home Goods were they are around $25 usually and cheaper for smaller sets. Prices are out of control. Towels at those stores run around $6-$7 which is a bit cheaper than the department stores and for better, thicker towels too.
