Monday Monday!

Good Monday Morning!! I hope this morning finds you all bright eyed and bushy tailed and ready to go! LOL.  At 6:00 a.m. I am about as bright eyed as a new born kitten who hasn't opened its eyes yet, but little by little I'm getting there...LOL.

So the last time I spoke with you on Saturday HERE, it was a foggy morning and we were looking forward to a visit with our dear friend Linda (from Simply Linda)and her hubby Dave.  And we were also anticipating the completion of our new floor in our house...and so here below you see both events combined:

Yep, that's the four of us, checking out the new floor! LOL.

Here's a topside picture of Linda and me...and yes, the wind was blowing my hair, adding to my already bad hair day...I should have taken a cue from Linda and wore a hat!  (btw, overdue haircut is happening this coming Thursday, Lord willing and the creek don't rise again...it was supposed to happen last Thursday, when "Hurricane Nicole" breezed through and thus the appointment was cancelled).
Anyway, back to the story.  We had a wonderful visit with Linda and Dave, even though a bit chaotic at our house.  The men were still finishing up the floors and the furniture was all in disarray, and we even had some excitement when a fire broke out in their trailer, which was parked out in front of the house right next to the front porch, where all the scraps and old carpet, etc., were being thrown to take to the dump...apparently one of the workers had taken a smoking break and inadvertently threw his cigarette butt into the open trailer of trash and all of a sudden I saw smoke rising and rapidly growing! Of course someone had moved our fire extinguisher away from the front door where it would have been easily accessible, but after a quick run (by me) to the water faucet (which happens to be on the back side of the house and under the porch, which then connects to a hose that runs under the house to the front yard), the fire was out before it became a conflagration. Praise God! That was a close one!

So after all the excitement and confusion, Linda and Dave were finally able to pick up their roll-top desk that they had purchased from Dixie Cottage and that had been stored in our shed until they could move into their new house, and they were on their way back home (they live about an hour away from us)...and the men finally totally completed the new floor and put all the furniture back into place (thankfully...what a blessing they did all the heavy stuff for us!)...and then we had the joyous task of putting things back together, like making the bed so we could collapse into it that night:

Now, there's a story about that too.  We are learning how to adapt to these lovely new "luxury vinyl plank floors". BTW, the name of our flooring color is "Hazelnut Maple"....sort of sounds like some kind of gourmet coffee, doesn't it?  Anyway, I digress...When I went to make the bed, I leaned against the bed and it started moving across the floor.  Our bed frame has wheels on it, and there was nothing for them to grip since there was no longer any carpet.  So, hubby and I had to figure out someway of giving them some traction or we'd possibly wake up to find ourselves flying on our bed into the next county! LOL.
I finally had to cut some little pieces of rug with a rubber backing on it and we had to lift the bed and place the pieces under each wheel...which was a challenge in itself...but we finally managed to do it well enough to stop the bed from moving.
The next issue was those lovely throw rugs you see above beside the bed.  I had purchased them in anticipation of this event.  The only thing I didn't realize was that they had a fringe tied in knots all the way across the two ends of the rug.  Hubby took one step on the rug and of course his foot landed on the knots, and he declared that would never do for bare feet in the night. So I thought about taking them back to the store, but I liked the color, etc., and so decided to just cut off all the knotted fringes.  The only thing is the rugs will probably now start unraveling from each end and eventually there will be no rug left...but we'll deal with that issue when the time comes. They were cheap enough at Ollie's so when they ravel away I will just get something else. For now we needed rugs by the bed! LOL.

This morning we woke up to a chill in the air, and so it felt nice and cozy in here with the "fire" in the fireplace...

I still have a LOT to do to unpack all the knicknacks and paddywhacks, but hopefully I will get the majority of it done before Thanksgiving...which yes, will be here at our house with some of our extended Florida family as per our usual tradition...

But meanwhile, in my moments of rest and recuperation from this monumental event we have just undertaken, I have been enjoying reading this book...  My NH and Maine friends will know what I am talking about...Mrs. T from Across My Kitchen Table, and Vee, from "A Haven for Vee" and I discussed this story about the lady known as "Messannie Wilkins, the Last of the Saddle Tramps" recently.  I wanted to get her original autobiography, but alas the only copies were quite expensive, so this biography written by Elizabeth Letts is quite good and was much much more affordable.  It's a story of one woman's determination to not give up living when told she should just go live in a charity home until she died...but she decided to get on her horse and pick up her doggy and head for the Pacific Ocean from her home in Maine....this was back in the 1950's...and is quite a story!   It makes for some interesting and enjoyable reading when I am resting from my labors.

Okay, friends...I hope by now you've had your coffee and/or tea, and are ready to pick up whatever challenge you may be facing today and move ahead.

Philippians 3:12-14
12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.
13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Amen!

  1. The new flooring looks very nice, Pam, and I know you will figure out replacement rugs when needed, just as you did to stop the bed from rolling😉 Glad you were able to have a nice visit and also that the fire was averted.

    1. Thank you, "Beatrice". Someone has suggested (below) something called Fabric Fusion to seal the ends of the rugs, so maybe they will last a lot longer that way!! I hope so. I really like the color and style. They match our bedspread so well! Yes, we had an eventful day, but thankfully everything and everyone survived! Now trying to get things back to some kind of normal! Have a blessed week!!

    1. Oh, I hope to see you on Saturday. I should be there most of the day...morning especially. I may have to go home for a while around noon, but will come back. It's going to be a long and busy day. But hopefully it will be a success for the store. It's really beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!! Thank you for your kind words. Maybe after the holidays we can plan a real get together.

    1. Thank you Cathy. We are glad it is over and done...now I just have to unpack everything, but I'm taking my time. Yes, we had a great visit with Linda and Dave. I was just sorry everything was so chaotic while they were here, but we still had a good time and they aren't that far away, so I hope we will be together again soon. Hope you are safely back home from your vacation by now...sometimes it's hard to get back to "reality" after a dream vacation...but I know you enjoyed the rest and relaxation. I'm sure it was much needed. Take care and God bless you!

  4. I love your new floors! The name certainly matches the color. I'm glad you got the bed problem and rug problem worked out. It's great that Linda and Dave were able to pick up their roll top desk finally. If I lived near Dixie Cottage, I'd be eating ramen all the time and using my money to buy things!

    1. LOL regarding the ramen noodles, etc. I'm sure you have better self control than that...that's pretty extreme! LOL. But please know you are always welcome here, even if you don't buy anything! We just have fun meeting and visiting happy people. Thank you for the kind words...and remember, if you ever are coming back down to FL., you have to let us know in time to plan a get together!!

    1. LOL. Glad you liked the moving bed story. I'm thinking we may still have to make some adjustments on those wheels, but at least it's mostly stable for now. Just can't get too "active" . LOL. We had a great time with Linda and Dave. Blogging friends do make wonderful up close in person friends as well! Wish we could ALL meet in person one of these days!!!

And it feels like we moved, with all the packing and now unpacking that we must do, but at least things will be clean and dusted much better than before! And yes, I am enjoying that book. Light reading when I am tired of working! LOL. Hope you have a blessed week as well.

    1. Thank you, Martha. I am enjoying the new floors already. Just making a few adjustments in the way we do things to keep them scratch free and clean! As far as unpacking goes, I will do a little at a time. I want to get things back to some kind of normal before Thanksgiving, but I'm not going to fret over it. What gets done gets done. Being with family is more important than things. Blessings to you too. I responded to your message on email too...

  13. Good looking floors. You can buy iron on tape for the rug edges that will extend their life. I am glad things worked out nicely and happy you and Linda were able to visit again.

    1. Thank you, Annie. The iron on tape sounds like a good idea too...also the next commenter, "Diana", mentioned something I'd not ever heard of called "Fabric Fusion". I may be looking for both of those items as they both sound like helpful hints! Thank you so much.

  14. Your bedroom is so beautiful! We have that kind of flooring in our apartment. For your rugs, find "Fabric Fusion" at either Walmart or Hobby Lobby... just buy a small bottle. It needs several hours to cure/dry, but it will keep the rugs from unravelling. I use it on so many things... clothes, furniture, even crafts. I've even made my jeans purse using it instead of sewing and it's still durable 6 years later and after many washings. Just an idea. // Hello to Linda there! I'll be going to her blog next lol. // I'll have to look into that book, sounds like one I'd be very interested in reading. Send you lots of hugs and blessings, my friend!!

    1. What great info about the fabric fusion! I will be looking for that next trip to Walmart! Thank you so much! I do appreciate such helpful hints! I'm not into crafting that much, so I am not up on the latest stuff!!! This sounds great.

  15. Wow, Pam! The new flooring looks so great. That's a cute idea to showcase everyone's feet ... was that your idea? It made me chuckle. Well that, and the story how you and the bed went a slip-sliding across the floor-turned-ice-rink. How frightening to think your beautiful porch might have gone up in flames. As a former smoker, I was always concerned about the possibility of fire. Almost 5 years ago now, we inherited an extinguisher from the former residents -- but I fear it was already empty and of no use. Something that's been on our 'to-do' list now and keeps getting pushed back.

  16. Pam: I love your new floors. When I was "in process" of being released from the Nursing Home/Rehab Center. The lady who came to our house told us not to have any throw rugs. They can cause people to fall. Please be careful when you are around them. I don't mean to sound like "Hannah Horrible" but that's what she told us. Peace and blessings to you and yours.

    1. Yes, I am fully aware of the dangers and "pitfalls" (pun intended) of throw rugs. But there are places where we need them to wipe our feet...like getting into bed, and in the bathroom, and especially at the doors. We are still adjusting to having all hard floors in the house (except in the guest bedroom and Scott's bedroom). I wear shoes all the time in the house anyway, except for during the night on those runs to the bathroom...and the floor is cold! LOL. We'll survive, but yes we will be careful with the rugs! Thank you.

  17. The new flooring is very nice. I know you will love it. So much easier to clean than carpet. Just a little sweep or Swiffer type thingie and you will be good to go.

  18. Pam!! The floors look so good!! Hopefully the throw rugs in the bedroom will not fall apart soon because they do look great. I'm so glad Linda and Dave got to visit and pick up the desk! They have a lovely new home and now you home is like new!! How fun!! Take your time putting things back. There is plenty of time to get it done. xo

  19. Your new floor is looking wonderful! I think you will love it. I read Diana's comment and second the "fabric fusion". I've used it many times and it does work great.
You were up hours before I was this morning. I couldn't go to sleep last night and found myself awake still at 3:30 am. When I finally went to sleep, I didn't wake up until 8:45! That is really late for me.
    Many blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  20. love all the pictures!--looks like a great visit with Linda! LOVE YOUR NEW FLOORS! They look great and I know you'll love them. So much easier to take care of too. I liked yesterday's fog pictures too. I think fog is pretty and mysterious. Pretty unless you are caught driving in it!--then not so pretty. Your new rugs look great too! Bedroom looks so nice and neat! Ours is a jumble, LOL

  21. Wow! What a lovely transformation! (I hear you about the bed sliding across the floor! We have an area rug that goes under and past our bed)

    1. Thank you!! I am wondering who this is! Blogger is making it more complicated for people to sign in and comment these days! I'm glad you know about the "Saddle Tramp" story. It's a great story of true grit and determination and overcoming obstacles in life. We may not all choose to go the "extra mile" that Annie Wilkins did, but we all work through life's challenges in one way or another. Hope you have a blessed day...and still would love to know who this is.

  22. Your new floor looks amazing! But I can imagine the conundrum you faced with the bed rolling away! Glad that you were able to figure out a solution, as well as with the rugs too! So wonderful that Linda and Dave were able to visit with you! My goodness - that is quite something about the trailer fire, so thankful that quick thinking got it put out before it caused any damage! Hard to believe Thanksgiving is now around the corner. Your guests will love your new floor, the home must feel brand new! It is amazing what a new floor can do for a room! Blessings to you Pamela!
