Good Tuesday Morning! Thought I'd drop in and say hello since our floor project has a slight delay. They couldn't get here yesterday due to complications at another job, and so hopefully the action will begin in earnest this afternoon, "Lord willing, and the creek don't rise!", Literally...as you may or may not know, we are under a "sub-tropical storm warning"..."Nicole" (my Maine daughter in law's name, who also had a birthday on Sunday, and I guess this is her way of getting some extra attention! LOL. Thanks, Nicole! And Happy Birthday again. We had a wonderful conversation via phone on Sunday, and that was a blessing.) But back to today...hopefully the floor materials will be delivered here this afternoon and the men will get right to work. Hubby and I are sitting here staring at such a clean house with no clutter, we hardly know what to do! LOL. We just might get used to this and not put anything back when it is over. LOL.
So moving right along...Here is this week's Tuesday 4:
Howdy Partners and welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4! (Per Annie:)
Fall and winter are holiday seasons. This week I am going back in time for one of Toni's first Tuesday 4 questionnaires about holidays. I have changed two questions slightly and I hope you don't mind.
Let's talk about holidays.
1. Which are your favorite Holiday(s)?
Well, Christmas and Easter are my favorite holidays because of the spiritual significance of each of them. But I think I enjoy Thanksgiving so much because it is simply a time of families and friends coming together just to be thankful...no strings attached...no gifts to exchange or obligations...just a time to give thanks to God for all He has done for us...and to spend time with cherished people...being in one accord...grateful to be alive, to have food on our table and a roof over our heads...a happy time in celebration of God's Goodness.
(picture from previous year...all my decorations are packed away right now!)
We still haven't made our Thanksgiving plans for this year and I see it is coming up really soon. Our extended Florida family usually comes here for Thanksgiving dinner...if not right on Thursday, then sometime that weekend. Hopefully our house will be back in shape in time, but if not it doesn't matter! It will be a happy time just being together. I guess I need to make some calls to see who's doing what, when, and where...
2. Favorite Holiday movie or character?:I love a lot of special holiday movies...we used to always watch "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" and Miracle on 34th Street around Thanksgiving, and for Christmas season we watch "A Christmas Story", the Griswold Christmas Vacation movie, and I love to watch the original "The Bishop's Wife", with Loretta Young and Cary Grant and David Niven. There are others, but those stand out in my mind.
3. Favorite Holiday Dish To Make? :
Well, there are too many to mention...but I usually always make a sweet potato casserole for Thanksgiving, along with all the other traditional things. (Pumpkin Pie too). At Christmas we are not as hard set on traditional meals as with Thanksgiving. We sometimes have ham, or my
Grandma Mursch's Ham Loaf, but we also sometimes have Lasagna. When my mother in law was still with us she always wanted a "fresh ham", which is like a big pork roast.
4. Favorite Holiday Weather You Wish For?:Well, we certainly do NOT wish for tropical storms in November! LOL. But, here in Florida we like to hope for some cooler, less humid, sunny days from November-April. However, I can remember wearing shorts and having the AC on many times for our holidays. But truly, our winters here are normally beautiful...the reason so many northerners leave their wintry, icy, snowy, blustery, blizzardly weather to spend their winters here..."Snowbirds". Now, when we lived up north, I always
wanted a white Christmas (click HERE for a story about that), but after that it would be okay if the snow would just stay pure and white and not get dirty and slushy and be that way until spring...but of course we know it never stays that way...and so I am very thankful to be right here in sunny Florida, where I don't have to deal with the ice and snow.
Here's a previous Tuesday 4 about Holidays from the past that you might enjoy reading
Okay, folks, that's it for today. I've got to get a move on...we are headed to Dixie Cottage this morning and then the workers will arrive this afternoon to start the work on the floor...and I need to also get a few groceries...etc., etc. Life goes on!!! Have a blessed and wonderful week.

Thanks for joining in. Each year we watch George C Scotts A Christmas Carol , the Bishops Wife and Mr. Kruegers Christmas (which I heartily recommend. Its wonderful). I like a big English roast for Christmas with Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, grilled brussel sprouts, candied carrots.. Oh yum. Making myself hungry. This year the fruit cake is on it's 4rth dose of Rum already.
ReplyDeleteHi Pam! I enjoyed reading your answers. Christmas and Thanksgiving were always favorites when growing up and also when our girls were home. We still get together with his mom and my sisters for Thanksgiving, but usually we just meet in a restaurant. I'd have to say my favorite Christmas moving is White Christmas. Hope all goes well today and that they get a good jump on your floors.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about your holidays in the post. For Thanksgiving our entire family gets together. Before we moved to Spokane, I always hosted Thanksgiving for my side of the family. Christmas was spent with Dennis's family and my parents went to their house on both days for pie in the evening. It was a blessings that our parents liked each other. Last year, we hosted Thanksgiving for 25 people from both sides of the family. It was a given because we were back home now that we would host. This year, because of the apartment, it's been moved to Mandy & Brads house and I'll still cook the turkey, dressing, etc. Brad's side of the family will also join our side. Our London son and DIL will join us with our sweet granddaughter. I cannot wait to hold that baby again.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and love,
Betsy
I am such a snow bird here in Virginia, I do not think I would like living south because I love a snowy or at least a day that looks like it could snow for Christmas! That is why it was so great going to grandma’s for Christmas because it seemed to always snow up in the SW mountains.
ReplyDeletePam: My favorite holidays are Easter and Christmas. I like Thanksgiving also. All three of them have spiritual meanings for me. My favorite Christmas movie is, "A Christmas Carol", the version with Alistar Simm. I like it because in at least three places there is scripture being read or recited. My husband decided I, and only I, could make Candied Sweet Potatoes. He tried to fix them when I was in the nursing home, and he decided that then. My favorite holiday weather is NOT a lot of snow. We were in Florida one Christmas after the panhandle had snow and the ones who lived there knew how to drive in it. The first Thanksgiving we lived in our house, the weather was beautiful, sunny and rather warm.
ReplyDeleteSweet memories! I grew up in what was (at that time) considered an unconventional home. None of us enjoyed the traditional holiday fare, and daddy didn't want mother to have to slave away in our tiny apartment kitchen. Basically, we'd go out of town for the long weekend and stay in a hotel that had a restaurant they could order something besides turkey. Both my former husband and Tom humored me, and half the time would agree to go out. Last year we let Publix do the cooking, but this year we're thinking of brisket; even rotisserie chicken.
ReplyDeleteI don't recall ever seeing Planes, Trains and Automobiles but it sounds good. I'm going to look it up!
Hoping the floor people showed up this afternoon!! I went to Publix after work. It was a zoo. People just panic when a storm is coming. I wasn't there to stock up. There were just a few things I needed. Fingers crossed that Nicole will be nice to us. xo
ReplyDeleteHope they show up to do your floors. Those are some great movies you listed. Sweet potato casserole sounds delicious. Yes, you must have pumpkin pie! Take care and good luck with all that you are doing.
ReplyDeleteWhile I have been a life-long participant in the most traditional of holiday activities, two years ago that all changed. Then a year ago I tried to go back to what used to be normal for me and it WORE.ME.OUT. For me (and honestly, I'm just speaking for myself here; not judging anybody else).... For me, I'm learning to observe the religious holidays on a deeper spiritual level, moving away from some of the traditions. I have the freedom to do that now that my family is grown and gone.
ReplyDeleteFor Christmas viewing, it's got to be "Scrooge" another "Christmas Carol" rendition but it's got to be the Alistair Sim's version. I have a whole stack of Christmas DVDs and begin my Christmas viewing right after Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on #1! Loved your answers! Have a nice week!

I enjoyed your answers. There's quite a few Floridians in our Tuesday 4 group. Yum. Sweet potato casserole. I don't think I've ever had a ham loaf.
ReplyDeleteI bet you will just love the new floors. I had a few friends that decided to declutter after a similar experience. I know you will post pictures for us! Then you will have fun putting it all back together.
ReplyDeleteI do love Christmas and Easter as you do, Pamela, but Thanksgiving always holds a special place in my heart as it truly is a time for family and to give extra thanks to God for all His magnificent blessings in our lives. We will have Danny's son, Giovanni, and his wife, Hope, with us at Thanksgiving this year, so I am happy for that. I do miss the days when we would go to my parents' home for the holiday. So many sweet memories . . .
ReplyDeleteBlessings, my friend!
Seeing if this works today...
