Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Thankful Thursday ~Strange Things Happening In Our Land...
It's Thursday, and I must say I am very very thankful...Yes, "strange things ARE happening in our land"...A Hurricane/Tropical Storm hitting our state in November is very strange. The winds and rain have been very powerful...much more so here than they were in September for Hurricane Ian! We listened to the wind and rain hitting against our house all night long last night, and just prayed that God would protect our home and our family and friends from any harm. Thus far, as far as we know, He has truly answered that prayer, and we are extremely grateful.
These pictures are really nothing...I should have taken them this morning when it was really blowing and raining, but it was too dark to get a good picture. Just trust me when I say it has been a steady, blustery, brutal day...but we are still very thankful for no damage and no power outages (yet). It's not completely over yet, so I don't want to be too exuberant.
Our thoughts and prayers are with those along the coast who are again experiencing much flooding and beach erosion and severe damages. Many had not even had a chance to repair the damages from the September storm (Ian). So this is like adding insult to injury for them. My heart truly goes out to them.
Yes, we are very thankful indeed.
We've had another kind of "storm" this week in our nation...the mid-term elections have taken place and the outcome is still not completely certain. Many are perplexed, some are giddy, and many are thoughtful and prayerful. We know it isn't over until God says it is over. We continue to pray for God's will to be done in our land. We know that He is still in control, no matter what the outcome. And we will put our trust in Him no matter what.
Here's some thoughts from God's Word...written by a mighty king many centuries ago...as he gave praise and honor to the Mighty King, Almighty God:
Praise to God in His Holiness and Majesty
A Psalm of David.
Psalm 29
1 "Give unto the Lord, O you mighty ones,
Give unto the Lord glory and strength.
2 Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name;
Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
3 The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
The God of glory thunders;
The Lord is over many waters.
4 The voice of the Lord is powerful;
The voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars,
Yes, the Lord splinters the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He makes them also skip like a calf,
Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox.
7 The voice of the Lord divides the flames of fire.
8 The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
The Lord shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh.
9 The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth,
And strips the forests bare;
And in His temple everyone says, “Glory!”
10 The Lord sat enthroned at the Flood,
And the Lord sits as King forever.
11 The Lord will give strength to His people;
The Lord will bless His people with peace."
Amen.
Now, switching gears a bit, I know some of you may be anxious to know how the saga of our new floors is coming along...Well, let's just say it is a real saga...and it continues...slowly, but hopefully surely...The work that was supposed to get started sometime on Monday didn't really begin in earnest until Wednesday...(yesterday). They started off with good intentions and ran into a few "issues" that needed to be corrected as they went along...by the time the men left our house last night around 7:00 p.m., they had only completed the first room, our bedroom, and even that still is not totally complete. They had very good intentions of returning at 8:00 this morning to work all day, but Tropical Storm Nicole changed their plans. One of the men had a major roof leak develop overnight, and so of course that was more important than working on our floors...and then the wind and rain was so bad this morning that it would have been a futile effort to try and keep working when they would need to go in and out to cut the pieces of flooring, and even with our covered porch they would have been drenched. So....hopefully tomorrow they will be able to get an early start and work all day again...and I expect they will still need to come back on Saturday to finish the job. (Hopefully, "Lord willing and the creek don't rise..." literally!)
So here's a few pictures so you can see what progress has been made:
There's our floor! LOL. The "before" picture...
Here is our bedroom, work in progress, but an issue developed. Where you see the two pieces of black felt on the floor, they are on either side of the seam that runs down the middle of our house because this is a manufactured home. When they started laying the flooring, they realized that the floor was not real level where that seam is. So they had to install the felt on either side of the seam to help fill in the gap so the floor tiles (vinyl planks) would be able to lay evenly over it. After working with it, it seems to be doing the trick, so they were able to continue working...
In order to move some of our very heavy dressers, they needed to take out some drawers...one is my nightgown and undie drawer, of course, exposed for all the world to see...
Well, while the drawers were out in the open, they also needed to do some sanding on the plywood subfloor to smooth out some places, and never thought to cover the open drawers...and of course I never realized it either until it was too late and the damage was done...and so now I will need to wash everything in those drawers once this job is done. Not to mention the very fine layer of sawdust that is all over everything in that room and yes, even out into the living room...and probably in our nostrils and lungs, because we were sitting in there watching TV while they worked and didn't realize what was happening until it was too late.
Oh, today, because of the storm, our kids decided to close Dixie Cottage for the day and they invited us to come over to their house for lunch (they only live a mile away, so it wasn't a dangerous trip). Rose had cooked a Boston butt for pulled pork and so we had BBQ pulled pork sandwiches and coleslaw for lunch and played Dominoes! What a blessing that was! Then we came home and took a much needed nap, because last night we slept in the guest room for the first time and even though the bed was comfy and cozy, the storm outside was howling, and my hubby was uncomfortable because he had to put his 6'2" body in a small double bed instead of our usual queen size bed. I reminded him that he never seemed to mind the double bed we had when we were newlyweds 53 years ago...LOL. Of course we were both quite a bit thinner and lighter back then...
And so, with that I will bid you good night.

It will be worth it. Carpet has no place in Florida...you will be so happy. Good luck
ReplyDeleteIt has stormed here all day, but I just don't mind.
Thank you, Brenda. Yes, I believe we will be very happy with the new floors when they are finally done. I hope the storm did no more damage in your area. We had lots and lots of rain and wind, but no significant damage here that we can see. We are very thankful. Have a blessed weekend.
DeleteYour floor is looking great, in spite of the problems that have popped up. You are such a trooper!!! You made me laugh about the exposed drawers..... (smile). Have a wonderful visit with Linda and Dave (I know you will).
ReplyDeleteGive Linda a hug from me!! Your floors look fabulous!! I love the color you chose and you will love having that done!! Hooray! Nice that you had a fun lunch with the kids today!! Happy anniversary to Rose & Ben. Gosh... five years!! I remember the wedding blog!! Hugs to them, too! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri! We are looking forward to seeing Linda and Dave again. I wish the house was back in order so they could see it, but we will have to save that for another time! We'll still have fun with them. Yes, it doesn't seem possible to us that Benton and Rose have been married 5 years already. Time flies when you are having so much fun! They are a joy and a blessing to us. Have a blessed day and weekend.
DeleteYour floors will be very nice when done color looks great. Remodelling is never easy but you will certainly enjoy the end result.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Betty. We are looking forward to it being DONE! But the delays give us a chance to rest in between. Thought we would be at Dixie Cottage today, but now we find out their friend Donna is coming instead, so we will have a day to figure out what to do while the workers are here all day at the house. Guess it will be a shopping day! Hope you have a blessed and peaceful Veteran's Day.
DeleteThe floor looks great so far. So nice you can meet up with Linda! Stay safe out there!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan. We are looking forward to meeting Linda and Dave on Saturday, Lord willing. I haven't heard anything from Linda lately so I am assuming it is still "all systems go". I had hoped the floor would be finished so she could see our house in a little better condition than it is in presently, but oh well...it is what it is and we will have a good time regardless! Have a blessed Veteran's Day weekend.
DeleteI'm so taken with the look of your new floors! It sounds like the installers are making every effort to do things right. Gotta say, the 'exposed drawer remark makes me giggle. Happy Anniversary to Rose and Benton! Wishing them and YOU sunny days. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Myra. I will be happy when it is done and we can get our house put back together, but the delays are helping us to "rest" in between our labors, so that is a good thing.
DeleteLove the floor. So beautiful. I hope you and Linda have fun. Looking forward to hearing about. Stay safe in the rain.
ReplyDeleteWondering if you are back home and away from the beach yet? I hope so, as the storm continues to cause rain and other issues along the coasts. Hope you had a safe trip home. Thank you for your kind words. I am getting anxious to get this project over and done with, but one day at a time. Sometimes little delays are for our benefit so we can "rest" in between our labors! LOL. Have a blessed Veteran's Day.
DeleteI'm so thankful the storm has passed without damage, what a blessing! So many obstacles with the flooring, but I know that you will be soo thankful when it's all done! Enjoy your visit with Linda, I've lost her blog address, please tell her hello for me!
ReplyDeleteNot sure who this is...is this Debbi? Linda's blog address is in the link up in my post where it says "Simply Linda". If you click on that it should take you to her blog. Yes, we are very thankful that we did not sustain any damage, and not even our power went off! That was wonderful!! We are very thankful to God.
DeleteNope not me !! Ha ha LOL debbi at debbisfrontporch
DeleteLOL. I don't know who then!!! Boo Hoo!
DeleteThe wood floors look gorgeous. They look like what my son has at his house. I have old wood floors - they are nice and I like them but I do love the new laminate ones. I think they would be easier. I have to at least once a year, wax and polish and buff them. If only I had my own buffer because I do it all myself. It's also about time to get them re-sanded and stained. They can be more work, to keep up but are worth it. You just can't beat the beauty of a wood floor that has been kept up. We do have carpet in the living room and our bedroom.
ReplyDeleteIt will change the whole look of your place - makes it more homey and cozy!
Sorry to hear about your weather - God doesn't follow what the meteorologists say
Thank you, Debby. We are looking forward to having these floors done so we can get back to some kind of "normal" here, but we are very thankful for all that is being done...and also that the storm did us no personal harm except for causing a "rain delay" in this race to the finish! LOL.
DeleteI'm so glad to read that you are all okay and no real damage for you. I'll pray that will continue. I also LOVE the look of your new floors. We had wood floors everywhere except for LVP in the remodeled bathrooms. I was so glad to have carpet here in the apartment. I know wood floors are much cleaner but in cold climates they are so nice this time of year.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your scripture verses. The elections have me scratching my head, but then I remind myself that God is in control of all things and maybe, just maybe, he is giving us exactly what we, as a nation, have asked for. Our backs have been turned on Him and His Holy Word for some time now. I pray diligently for humility to come on our leaders and for us to turn back to God. I do know that those who trust in Him will be fine, no matter what. (Maybe this is all more than you wanted to hear. If so, I apologize.)
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
No need to apologize...I totally agree with you in every respect. Yes, our nation is slipping further and further away from God, and we will reap what we sow. The people of God need to continue to pray diligently for our nation, our leaders and our communities...there are so many who simply just do not know the Lord and they are following false gods. And yes, we who put our trust in the Lord will be fine, but we hate to see what innocent people are suffering because of the ignorance of the multitudes. 2 Chronicles 7:14...
DeleteHave a blessed Veteran's Day, and thank you so much for writing.
I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE THOSE FLOORS ((squealing)). I am looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. smiles.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see you...what time do you think you will be here? the house is a MESS!!! They will still be working. Working tonight until 8:30...wow. This was a bigger job than any of us thought. I'm glad we agreed on a price BEFORE he got into it! LOL.
DeleteI love your new floors! So pretty and you will like how they actually “warm up” a room visually. I keep thinking of you during all these crazy storms. Stay safe and dry!
ReplyDeleteThis is susie klein btw. Having trouble signing in, that’s why I don’t comment often. It’s not you, it’s me, haha
Oh, Thank you, Susie! I always love to hear from you, even if incognito! LOL. We are all fine here...no more rain...tomorrow will be all sunshine and a beginning of a bit of a cool down for a few days...which will be very nice!!! I will be SO happy to get this floor job finished!!
DeleteThe weather this year has been strange all the way around. We broke records yesterday in the 70s. Today we are back to normal with highs in the mid 30s.
ReplyDeleteI love your new floors and am laughing about your undie drawer. At least you didn't catch someone going through the drawer or trying things on....lol
I can't even think about the elections anymore. I am just praying for peace for all of us.
I hope you have a wonderful, blessed weekend. xo Diana
LOL. No, I didn't catch them doing anything they shouldn't...thankfully I had actually covered the undies with a cotton nightie before they ever saw it, so that's not too bad. LOL. Yes, strange weather...going to get cooler here too, but not THAT cold. Yes, peace for all is a wonderful prayer...I hope your weekend is blessed and not stressed!!
DeleteOh it's going to be beautiful, Pam. Looking good! Glad that rotten old Nicole has moved on through without too much damage. I do hate hurricanes. Yes, we will trust God for our futures.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Vee. I am looking forward to it being DONE!!! It's been a long process, but we are starting to see the light at the end of a tunnel, and hoping it's not a train! LOL. And yes, we will trust God for our future. He IS in control, always.
DeleteYour floors look beautiful and they will be so much easier to keep clean. I had to chuckle at the mention of your undie drawer, because when I use the drier and fold my laundry, I rush to put my undies away even if the other clothes don't get put away for hours. Everyone uses our back door and that is where the washer and drier are and I don't want anyone seeing my undies, LOL. I know we all wear them, but I like mine kept private and out of sight.
ReplyDeleteLOL. Yes, something about undies...they need to be kept private. So little is private anymore...it's our last hold out. LOL. Thank you for the smiles.
DeleteThe new floor is looking great already, Pamela! I hope they can finish it sooner than later. Happy Anniversary to Benton and Rose, too!
ReplyDeleteBlessings always!
Thank you, Martha. The floor is coming along nicely, but slowly. It was a bigger job than any of us realized. We will ALL celebrate when it is done!!! Thank you for your kind wishes!!
DeleteI'm glad your prayers were answered. Sorry about the issues with installing the flooring but it sounds like they are doing a nice job. It is looking wonderful and I think you will like having it. I bought a nice dust mop and a Fuller Brush spray, that I use on the mop, and it really works well to get the dust off the floors. Your lunch sounds like it was delicious.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love to hear that someone uses Fuller Brush products. I sold them for quite a while. I may have to get some of that spray you mentioned. Sounds like a good idea, as long as it doesn't make the floors too slippery! Thank you for your kind words and thoughts!!! Hope you are doing well... xoxox
DeleteSo glad you are safe and "weathered" another storm (yes, all kinds of storms!) And I would agree...those beautiful new floors are going to well worth all the wait and aggravations - including all the extra laundry! :)
ReplyDeleteYour flooring is lovely! All the hassle will be worth it in the end. I too feel so bad for those on the east coast of Florida. My family and friends are all on the west coast and are doing okay. How great to be able to see Linda again! Have a great time!
