Tuesday 4: Happy Holidays

Good Tuesday Morning! Thought I'd drop in and say hello since our floor project has a slight delay. They couldn't get here yesterday due to complications at another job, and so hopefully the action will begin in earnest this afternoon, "Lord willing, and the creek don't rise!", Literally...as you may or may not know, we are under a "sub-tropical storm warning"..."Nicole" (my Maine daughter in law's name, who also had a birthday on Sunday, and I guess this is her way of getting some extra attention! LOL. Thanks, Nicole! And Happy Birthday again. We had a wonderful conversation via phone on Sunday, and that was a blessing.) But back to today...hopefully the floor materials will be delivered here this afternoon and the men will get right to work. Hubby and I are sitting here staring at such a clean house with no clutter, we hardly know what to do! LOL. We just might get used to this and not put anything back when it is over. LOL.

 
So moving right along...Here is this week's Tuesday 4:

Fall and winter are holiday seasons. This week I am going back in time for one of Toni's first Tuesday 4 questionnaires about holidays. I have changed two questions slightly and I hope you don't mind.

Let's talk about holidays.

1. Which are your favorite Holiday(s)?

Well, Christmas and Easter are my favorite holidays because of the spiritual significance of each of them.  But I think I enjoy Thanksgiving so much because it is simply a time of families and friends coming together just to be thankful...no strings attached...no gifts to exchange or obligations...just a time to give thanks to God for all He has done for us...and to spend time with cherished people...being in one accord...grateful to be alive, to have food on our table and a roof over our heads...a happy time in celebration of God's Goodness.

We still haven't made our Thanksgiving plans for this year and I see it is coming up really soon. Our extended Florida family usually comes here for Thanksgiving dinner...if not right on Thursday, then sometime that weekend.  Hopefully our house will be back in shape in time, but if not it doesn't matter! It will be a happy time just being together.  I guess I need to make some calls to see who's doing what, when, and where...

2. Favorite Holiday movie or character?:

I love a lot of special holiday movies...we used to always watch "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles"  and Miracle on 34th Street around Thanksgiving, and for Christmas season we watch "A Christmas Story",  the Griswold Christmas Vacation movie, and I love to watch the original "The Bishop's Wife", with Loretta Young and Cary Grant and David Niven.  There are others, but those stand out in my mind.

3. Favorite Holiday Dish To Make? :

Well, there are too many to mention...but I usually always make a sweet potato casserole for Thanksgiving, along with all the other traditional things.  (Pumpkin Pie too).  At Christmas we are not as hard set on traditional meals as with Thanksgiving.  We sometimes have ham, or my Grandma Mursch's Ham Loaf, but we also sometimes have Lasagna. When my mother in law was still with us she always wanted a "fresh ham", which is like a big pork roast.  

4. Favorite Holiday Weather You Wish For?:

Well, we certainly do NOT wish for tropical storms in November! LOL.  But, here in Florida we like to hope for some cooler, less humid, sunny days from November-April.  However, I can remember wearing shorts and having the AC on many times for our holidays.   But truly, our winters here are normally beautiful...the reason so many northerners leave their wintry, icy, snowy, blustery, blizzardly weather to spend their winters here..."Snowbirds".     Now, when we lived up north, I always wanted a white Christmas (click HERE for a story about that), but after that it would be okay if the snow would just stay pure and white and not get dirty and slushy and be that way until spring...but of course we know it never stays that way...and so I am very thankful to be right here in sunny Florida, where I don't have to deal with the ice and snow.

Okay, folks, that's it for today. I've got to get a move on...we are headed to Dixie Cottage this morning and then the workers will arrive this afternoon to start the work on the floor...and I need to also get a few groceries...etc., etc.  Life goes on!!!  Have a blessed and wonderful week.
