Morning Meditations from Still Waters Pond

Morning Meditations from Still Waters Pond

Psalm 92:1-2, 4
1. "It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
2.  To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning,
And Your faithfulness every night...
4.  For You, LORD, have made me glad through Your work;
I will triumph in the works of Your hands."

We enjoyed watching this little lone female Ring Necked Duck swimming and diving around in Still Waters Pond yesterday morning. She just kept diving down for her food and then popping back up and swimming around into another spot and diving some more. That is what they do, but I don't know why she is here alone without any males to protect her.

However, she really wasn't alone.  It seems as though she wanted to stay close to this pair of Canadian Geese, often swimming and diving right in between them and all around them.

The geese, however, seemed to be a bit disdainful of her intrusion into their space.

They barely tolerated her interruptions of their peaceful morning breakfast, and often turned their backs on her and walked away.

But the little duck never paddled very far away from their territory, totally undaunted by their lack of concern...

It was as if she felt safer being close to these two big protectors, especially since it seems as though she is here without any of her own family to surround her.

Kind of reminds me of Psalm 91:1-4

1.  "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2.  I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.'
3.  Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence.
4.  He shall cover you with His feathers,
and under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and buckler."

There are times when we need to draw closer to our "big Protector", especially during times when we feel alone and uncertain of our circumstances in life.  We need to keep swimming closer and allow Him to cover us with "His feathers", and take refuge under the shadow of His wings...

Why?

Psalm 91:9-16
"Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High,
your dwelling place,
10.  No evil shall befall you,
nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
11.  For He shall give His angels charge over you,
to keep you in all your ways.
12.  In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
13.  You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,
The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot."

 14.  "Because he has set his love upon Me,
therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
15.  He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him.
16.  With long life I will satisfy him,
and show him My salvation."

And, unlike the two big Canadian Geese, our "Protector" will never turn His back on us.
He will always be there ready to answer our call when we are in trouble of any kind.
He is always ready to deliver us from our enemies...no matter how big or evil they may appear to be.
So stay close to "the shadow of the Almighty"...
take refuge "under His wings",
and He will deliver you when you call.

    1. Thank you, Linda. I love to see your smile!! Hope you had a beautiful day too! We did, but it was very windy and cold (for us). At least the sun was shining, so that's a plus!!

    1. So glad you enjoyed this. We can certainly learn a lot from watching birds and God's wonderful creation. Always some kind of lesson there if we are paying attention!

  5. I absolutely love your pictures today, my heart went out to the duck. Just looking for a friend....unfortunately that happens with people too. Someone reaches out and we're so wrapped up in our own world we just ignore them. I pray I'm never guilty of this. You gave us a great message and great scriptures today, thank you dear lady. ((hugs))

    1. Thank you, Mary. You took this post a step further. I agree...the little duck acts like she wants to be near these big guys, but they keep ignoring her. However, that doesn't stop her. She keeps swimming around them, bobbing up and down after her food, and when they move, she moves with them. She's like a pesky little sister who wants to tag along. Yes, may we be paying attention to those who must may need a little extra attention as well...

    1. Yes, we are truly privileged and blessed. So often we forget that we have that privilege and we try to do things on our own. That is when we get into trouble...but thankfully He is never far away...

  10. This is beautiful and I do think that little duck was hoping for the large ones to protect her. She seemed so all alone. That makes me sad. Thanks for all your pretty posts and the pictures and the scripture. You never know just who might need that exact verse on the exact day. We just plant seeds.....and God does the rest, right? Hugs, my friend! I love your "open window on the world". Hows the weather there? it sure was COLD HERE TODAY AND SO WINDY.

    1. Hello Debbi...thanks so much for joining in. Yes, I think the little duck feels safer with the big geese around. That has been the normal procedure for the past several days that I've noticed. I didn't see the little duck this morning when the geese came close to shore, but then we left for church so I don't know if she showed up or not. We don't usually see them during the afternoon...it is mostly in the mornings and sometimes in the evening. Yes, we are here to plant seeds and let God bring the increase...that is His job. But we are to be faithful witnesses to His power and love and salvation. We never know who is out there looking for hope in this crazy world. The weather here was quite chilly this morning...36 degrees! It is about 59 now this afternoon, but kind of cloudy and windy. Yesterday was very cold and windy all day. It's been a pretty cold winter for us here in Florida if you ask me. I predicted it would be because of all the acorns and holly berries. God provides for His creation in various ways. I hope you have a blessed and wonderful day and week. We need to keep praying especially this week, for peace and calm. (((hugs)))

    I'm so thankful that we have a Protector who will never, ever abandon us or turn His back on us. Our Daddy is stronger than their daddy!

    1. Amen to that, Kim!! "My God is so BIG, so strong and so mighty, there's nothing my God cannot do!" This was a little song we used to teach the children in Sunday School. And it is SO true. We are blessed to be His children!!
