The BEST! Here is an older
Tuesday 4 from Toni Taddeo. Why not play along with us?
I was having difficulty coming up with good answers, so I decided to ask my hubby these questions to see what he would say. I found his responses interesting, and they helped me come up with some of my own. So here we go:
1. What was the best thing you have ever bought? He said: The electric Tea Pot!
Yes! It's so much fun to watch the pot boil!! Hubby insisted on buying this for me after my numerous occasions of letting the teapot boil dry on the stove. We tried whistling tea kettles, tried setting a timer...but I hate to tell you how many teapots were ruined on top of the stove by my neglect. I'd set the full teapot on the stove and turn on the burner, and then I'd get distracted by...well, life! Children, phone calls, laundry, the computer, a good book, a knock at the door...you name it, they were all good excuses...but since he bought me this electric teapot there have been no more incidences of teapots boiling dry because it shuts itself off when it is done boiling. Now, I must confess I have let the water sit there and get cold again before remembering to pour a cup of tea...but, well, what can I say?
That's life!
And the electric rice cooker is another miracle invention that hubby discovered when he was home doing the cooking after his early retirement and before I retired. Bless his heart, he who had never really ever cooked more than hot dogs before decided he would cook supper every night while I was still working. It was the best thing that ever happened in our then 40+ years of marriage! I would come home after a long day at the office and a 45 minute drive to walk in the door and smell the wonderful aromas of supper being ready to eat!! To me, that was just the best thing ever!
Sadly, once I retired he forgot how to cook. But in the meantime, he bought this rice cooker because again, you can put the water and rice in the pot, plug it in and turn it on and in about 20 minutes you have perfectly cooked rice! No boiling over, no scorched bottoms...a great invention I must admit!
2. What was the best book you have ever read?
So I asked my theologian husband this question, and I disqualified the Bible, because, obviously, that is the BEST book anyone could EVER read, so he had to come up with a 2nd choice. I was surprised by his answer of Billy Graham's classic "Angels, God's Secret Agents".
It truly is a great book, highly recommended. Sadly, we no longer have it on our bookshelf. We purged a lot of books over the years as we made our many moves.
I also thought of a favorite book or two, but these were from childhood:
I was just sharing these stories with
Lily Grace... (Lily asked me to apologize because she hasn't had any new adventures lately. We've been a bit remiss in going places where she can go and have an adventure, but I've promised her something special soon)
I am sure you all remember this classic "The Little Engine That Could"... I always thought this a great little book to encourage children as well as adults. Sometimes all we need is for others to believe in us and encourage us to try!!
"I think I can, I think I can, I think I can..."
And it's always good to hear from our friends and loved ones some words of praise and cheer as we do accomplish our goals in life...something we should also remember to do for others who may be struggling with their load...they may just need a little cheering on their way!
3. What is the best food you've ever eaten?
Hubby had to really think about his answer and be very careful not to insult his wife sitting there beside him waiting for his answer. He very diplomatically responded with something that we both could agree upon: my mother's coconut cream pie! And he quickly added that I make it just as good as she did...but he explained that he'd never had a real coconut cream pie until he tasted my mother's, and he's never forgotten it!
This is a link to a post I wrote about her pies with a picture of my attempt at making it just like hers.
4. What was the best movie or TV series you've ever watched?
For me it would have to be
"The Sound of Music". I will never forget watching that movie in the first ever cinema theater in our area. It was so awesome!! I learned every song and thought I could sing them all just like Julie Andrews. (I was about 15 when it came out). I used to sing the songs in the shower, and one time when I came out of the shower to go to my room, my parents were sitting in the living room and had been listening to me sing. They said, "we didn't know you could sing like that! Maybe we should get you some voice lessons!" I wasn't sure if I should be insulted or complimented! But I never took the voice lessons at that time. I did have some later as an adult, and I gave it up because every time I'd practice the scales, the dog would start howling. Besides, my voice kept dropping from soprano to low alto...can't do the Julie Andrews routine at all anymore! LOL. But I do love to sing and make a joyful noise to the Lord. That's what really matters most.
So now you have
our answers!
So what would your answers be?
Get blogging and let us know.
"...I gave it up because every time I'd practice the scales, the dog would start howling."
ReplyDelete😂 We had a dog that would do that whenever she heard a fire engine's siren!
So...do you ever share your mother's coconut cream pie recipe?
If you click on the link for the post I wrote about the coconut cream pie, I think you can see the recipe there in that post. May have to enlarge the photo of the cookbook. She used the Better Homes and Garden cookbook recipe for "Vanilla Cream Pie", adding the coconut to the cream filling as well as on the meringue topping. And of course she always made her own pie crusts. That makes a huge difference! Yes, my practicing the scales could be likened to a fire engine's siren probably...in a dog's ears! LOL.
DeleteWhat a super idea, asking your hubby to answer these questions! I wanted to play along; really, I did, but couldn't narrow anything down to just one or two.
ReplyDelete"Sound of Music" was one of the first movies to pop in my mind. Your account of singing in the shower cracked me up! And I had such a crush on Christopher Plummer; how it hurt my heart when he passed. Heck, I could watch it again, anytime. Pretty sure I still remember all the lyrics.
PS - I'm SO impressed that John took over making dinner while you were still working. Now, THAT's love.
He actually enjoyed playing along and answering the questions. He wanted to know if there were more questions. Retirement isn't really his idea of fun. He's bored most of the time and needs brain stimulation daily. LOL. Glad you enjoyed my sound of music story. I still love to TRY and sing those songs. And yes, I was impressed by John's cooking too. I just wish he'd kept it up, but he "retired" from cooking when I "retired" from work. Ho hum. Such is life. It was grand while it lasted!
Delete{{{Grin}}} I so enjoyed your answers and I can fully see your husband answering these, have a beautiful day Pamela.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. Yes, he enjoyed answering them and wanted more, so I know where I'll be going with these questions from now on. My brain's too tired to think up good answers anymore! LOL.
DeleteOk, now I want an electric tea pot! That would really come in handy. It could also be used for instant coffee. Thanks for sharing that idea.
ReplyDeleteWe did a study on angels in our former Sunday School class. It was interesting. I learned a lot. One must be careful to not worship or idolize angels, too, but to remember the good ones are only His messengers.
Blessings. xx
The electric tea pot (kettle! I misnamed it) is great for getting hot water in a hurry! I do love it, although I always liked the idea of having a teakettle on the stove too...but no more. I truly must have burned up at least 5 in my life time that I can think of. And right you are about the angels...yes, they are God's messengers...but not to be worshiped. Respected, yes...because they represent God, but not worshiped. Big difference.
DeleteExcellent answers! That tea pot is super cool! I love it.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful book choices! I love The Little Engine That Could. Loved your answers. Have a nice week.

Thank you, Lori! I can't take full credit for the answers since most of them were my hubby's, but it was fun getting his perspective on things. It helped me to get more inspired! Hope you have a great week too.
DeleteAlong the lines of your rice cooker... my Ninja foodie. I love that thing! So easy!
ReplyDeletehttp://inmywords.kimdeister.com/2021/06/01/tuesday-4-the-best/
I haven't tried the new Ninja items yet. Many have them and love them. I may get more up to date one of these days! Thank you for visiting today!!
Delete1. What was the best thing you have ever bought? An Amana Radar Range Microwave Oven, we bought it for our 17th wedding anniversary (1983) We still have it and it works.
ReplyDelete2. What was the best book you have ever read? Ann Voskamp's One Thousand Gifts. I find myself referring to it often. I need to order a new copy. I turned it in to the leader of a group that studied it at church. She is now able to use that as a study book to help some young women she now works with.
3. What is the best food you've ever eaten? Cranberry bread, now Cranberry Muffins.
Oh my goodness! that is quite the testimony for the quality of Amana products from back then when appliances were built to last! That is amazing! I also have and love Ann Voskamp's One Thousand Gifts. I thought about listing that today, but went a different direction. but yes, it was a life-changer for me. And I do love cranberry/orange bread or muffins. They are yummy, especially warm from the oven. Thank you for playing along!
DeleteI love children's books and have a nice collection. I ordered 2 more from Etsy today! I'm not shopping as much so it's fun to splurge on Etsy! Enjoy your afternoon! Keep those fans humming!
ReplyDeleteOh, I know you do love children's books! I enjoy the few that I still have that were mine from childhood, and maybe a few of my kids' books. The children's books of today are so different from when we were children. I prefer the innocence and sweetness of our generation. Praying for some rain! I know that might slow down your hikes, but we sure need it!
DeletePamela, I still have my copy of A Child's Garden of Verses--the very same edition as yours! As a child, did you pore over those colored illustrations? I sure did! Would have liked to color the black and white drawings, but the shiny paper didn't lend itself to crayons or colored pencils.
ReplyDeleteYou sent me back to my "A Child's Garden of Verses" to look at the colored illustrations again. Yes, they are very special, and yes, I remember reading every page and looking intently at the pictures. I never tried to color the black and white, but I did outline a couple with blue ink. Not sure why I did that. Wish I hadn't now. But I love that book and all the verses. I am happy you are from the same era as me apparently!!
DeleteHow diplomatic your dear husband is! I love all of your and his answers! I have an old copy of The Little Engine That Could also, the same illustrations, they're the original I believe. I love the electric teapot. The Turks I worked with had one of those going all the time for their special tea served in small cups and super concentrated. I love the rice cooker, too, we got a little ol' $10 one and it is superb! Those were classic songs in The Sound of Music, weren't they? Lasting the test of time.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, he is the consummate diplomat! LOL. Yes, I believe my Little Engine book is an original. It is from my childhood, so that makes it pretty OLD. I am happy to know you love the electric teapot too. Aren't they great? And our rice cooker was the $10.00 variety too, I think. It makes about 4 cups of rice (or less). Very handy. And yes...The Sound of Music was a classic. I could watch it over and over. Thank you for visiting. Hope you are doing well.
DeleteI love Sound of Music and I remember the first time I saw it. Several people from our church went to see it. I think I was about 10 or 11. I watch it whenever I can. I saw all the movies your hubby mentioned. We watch The Ten Commandments every year. As a child I read The Trixie Belden Mysteries. I love my rice cooker and may look into that electric tea kettle for the fall. Enjoy your week Pam!
ReplyDeleteIf you boil water often for tea, you will love the electric tea kettle. It is quick and easy and you never have to worry about it boiling dry.
DeleteI have looked at a tea kettle like that, but so far it still sits on the store shelf. Never owned a rice cooker, but love my slow cooker.
ReplyDeleteI love my slow cooker too, but it is slow! I have to plan ahead to use it! The rice cooker is a nice little pot that makes just the right amount for us for a meal. Makes it really easy. You would love the electric tea kettle if you boil water very often and forget like me. I tend to get distracted answering comments on blogs and emails and facebook and other stuff like that these days and the time just flies...so I am happy my teakettle shuts itself off. That is very handy!
DeleteInteresting answers from your hubby! I like my electric tea pot, but it isn't clear so I can't watch it boil. I have a microwave rice cooker and really like that. I bought my mom an electric one the Christmas after my dad died (28 years ago) and I don't know if she's ever used it. I will have to look for the Billy Graham book. I haven't read that one. Those children's books...two of my own favorites! I still have my copy of A Child's Garden of Verses, but it is falling apart. My favorite is the poem about swinging..."How do you like to go up in the sky, up in the sky so blue..." I hope you're having a lovely week!
ReplyDeleteYes, my glass tea kettle gives a whole new dimension to "watching a pot boil". It's actually more fun to watch when you can see it...and the little blue lights in there make it very pretty! The Angels book was very good. My husband doesn't really like to read a lot of books just for the sake of reading a book. But he really liked that one and it has stuck with him all these years. It is a very good perspective on the purpose of angels as messengers of God. I think he liked it because we've had our own "close encounters" with angels throughout the years, and this little book helped to confirm our "suspicions" of what we thought had to be angelic intervention. Sometime I may have to write about some of those experiences. Oh, and yes, "The Swing" is my most favorite poem from Robert Louis Stevenson. I hope you are having a lovely week as well. Praying for you as you begin your new job soon.
DeletePam, I enjoyed all of your bests today! You write so well and take us along with you through your memories and journeys! xo
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you, Terri. I had to have "help" on this one. Like being on the "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Show"...I had to call in a "friend" for some answers! LOL. So you must be home again! I hope you have a good week as you prepare for the next new job to begin!! Praying for you.
DeleteThe two children's books you've featured here were staples in my childhood, too, Pamela. And The Sound of Music? My favorite movie of all time! I could probably sing all the songs by heart still today.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, my friend!
Oh, we should sing a duet or a mini chorale of the Sound of Music together! And I believe those sweet little books helped shape us into the great book lovers and children's story tellers that we are today!
DeleteEnjoyed your husbands answers. Loved the pictures of the old books.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debby. He enjoyed doing this. I may have to ask him more often. He wanted to know if there were more questions. And yes, I love these little old books from my childhood. They are very special. (and OLD!)
DeleteI love the glass tea kettle and have one exactly like it at our little camp. It boils water so quickly and easily when we need hot water for any reason. And yes, aren't those blue lights so pretty?
ReplyDeleteOh, I am happy you are a fan of the glass teakettle. Yes, I love the blue lights! It makes watching the water boil a fun thing to do.
DeleteThat was a very interesting and fun post today wigt your husband’s perspective on the questions. The tea pot is cool and makes me with I had one. I have watched so many British shows and the solution for every problem is to put on the kettle or get a cuppa. I read that Billy graham book many, many years ago and don’t remember much about it. I too have purged books over the year and right now I realize I have so many Bibles, I need to do something about giving some away. Coconut pie is my very favorite and I have never made one. I need to look at your mom’s recipe. I loved The Sound of Music and saw it and sang it many, many times. I think I’ve mentioned in my blog before that we did a Sound of Music tour of Austria and Germany. It was so beautiful and really cool to visit where they made the movie.
ReplyDeleteOh how wonderful to have actually been in Austria where the Sound of Music was! I would enjoy that I am sure. And yes, you can enlarge the photo on the post I linked with the pie recipe. It doesn't say Coconut Cream pie on the recipe, but Vanilla Cream. I think she added one cup of coconut to the vanilla cream, and also sprinkled coconut on the meringue and then browned it in the oven. It's very rich and good. And yes, the British response to everything is to put the teakettle on and have tea. I like that idea. I do love my electric teapot. It is quick and easy to do, and it shuts off by itself!! Perfect solution!
