Friday Foto Friends-A little late!

I'm a little late to the party today.  Yesterday was a long day, as I was helping our daughter in love Rose at "Dixie Cottage" all day,  and I slept in about a half hour longer this morning until almost 6 a.m.! Which got me off to a late start for posting anything this morning as we are on a "strict schedule"... that first cup of tea (coffee for hubby), while checking emails/Facebook/blogger. If I want to post anything in the morning, I'd best have it ready to go before 7 a.m., because that's when we read our devotions together and then have breakfast while watching the news (IF I can stand to watch it, which oftentimes lately I cannot so off it goes...), and then we clean up breakfast dishes and go get dressed and ready for the day...walk, shop, laundry, whatever other important stuff we can dream up.
Doesn't that sound like an exhilarating, thrilling morning to you?
Such is the life of two retired folks who are in a "routine". (I won't call it a rut. But it could be misconstrued as such by those who don't appreciate how hard we work at it.)

And so, I didn't really have anything exciting or new to share with you today and my poor tired brain from so much "routine living" couldn't come up with anything too thrilling to share.  Although working all day at Dixie Cottage is anything but dull or routine...just tiring for this old gal. I will share a few pictures from yesterday later in this post.
But for now to start the day off right (now it is after 2:00 pm....I've dilly dallied enough)
Here we go:

From our walk one evening this week...this gorgeous "Calico Pennant" dragonfly, sipping nectar or whatever she can get from what looks like dried up weeds. She very gracefully sat still long enough for me to get this great photo.

These wild persimmons are growing all along the trail of our daily walk. But I sure won't make the mistake of trying to eat one again!!

Now, if you've already read The Adventures of Lily Grace this week, you've already seen these next few pictures of the bluebirds in the last moments prior to leaving the nest:

Papa Bluebird has just told Junior that he's not going to be bringing him anymore free grasshoppers. He's going to have to get outside this birdhouse and start finding his own!

Junior begs Papa for just one more grasshopper, pleeeeeze?  But Papa Bluebird, practicing "tough love" flies away and leaves Junior and his siblings in the nest to figure it out for themselves...

Junior sticks his head out the hole and looks around and says, "Where did he go?" "He can't do this to me!"  "I'm not ready to fly on my own yet, am I?"

But after a few moments waiting for Papa or Mama to come back, he realizes that they meant what they said. It was time for him to leave the nest and learn how to support himself.

And so, after a great push off of the walls that were securely protecting him until he was ready to fly...he finally took a giant leap of faith and flew perfectly to the housetop nearby.

Mama Bluebird and a neighborhood friend, Mr.  Tufted Titmouse, were there to cheer him on.

He looked around him in awe at the beauty and freedom that surrounded him on every side.

One by one all of the baby bluebirds left the nest, and soon they were joining all of the other Bluebird community in the trees and world beyond our little birdhouse on Still Waters Pond.
We haven't seen them since, but I know God is watching over them and they are happily on their way to exploring this great big world!

“Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places!
You're off and away!”

“You won't lag behind, because you'll have the speed.
You'll pass the whole gang and you'll soon take the lead.
Wherever you fly, you'll be best of the best.
Wherever you go, you will top all the rest."
― Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You'll Go!

And so now I am back to watching the lizards and dragonflies doing their tricks...

I hope it won't be long before God sends us another bird family or something else to watch and enjoy. You never know what excitement may be coming in the future...so keep your eyes open and ready for new adventures every day!

And now for those pictures from Dixie Cottage that I promised from my visit there yesterday:

They have set up one room of furnishings and decor that they have labled the "Nautical Room"  (no,  not the "Naughty Room" as Lily Grace thought it was called), but a room for all things coastal and beachy.

I liked the stacking whales lamp...

Of course, most of the decor and furnishings in the whole store are considered more "coastal" in theme, but this room is more concentratedly so.

Lots of whales abound in these seas!

And fish shaped tables

They even have whale shaped salt and pepper shakers!

Back in the main showroom they have many beautiful items for sale. This was just one of the newer ones that my son refurbished:

Somehow I managed to take a "selfie" of my feet. No, those shoes aren't green, but they look it. Just gray, and tired feet at the end of the day.

And so I think I will end this post here as I need to get up on those feet get to work doing something around this house today!!!

How about we conclude with a cup of tea and some thoughts from this lovely little Devotional Book, "Choose Grace", that my friend "Auntie Opal" (as Lily Grace calls her) gave me:

Whatever we do, whether it be routine, mundane, or a new adventure, let us frame all of it in the beautiful portrait of living a life in love with our Lord and Savior, filled with all of our "passion, prayer, intelligence and energy."

So, with love to you through Christ our Lord,
Have a blessed and wonderful rest of your day and weekend.
It's never too late to give glory to God!

  1. Pamela, thank you for your prayers. Unfortunately there are controlling spirits that have created an ungodly faction that is working against our pastor which didn’t manifest until COVID. I am so sad I can barely attend for these next 3 weeks til Jeff leaves. I am responsible for the church providing diapers to Straight Street til September. I have been stockpiling them in the church storage and I need to purchase some pull ups then I am taking the whole load of them on over. There after we will begin the Christmas box mission project early and see what we can do about getting it finished early. Whew! Btw, your photos are amazing! Blogging is so cathartic! Blessings, Schotzy

    1. I am so very sorry to hear about your church issues. My heart goes out to your pastor as we have experienced the same kind of 'ungodly faction' that worked against us in different places. Satan is a liar and he will try every way possible to undermine the work of God in the Church today. We have to always have our armor on as per Ephesians 6, and stand strong in the faith and in God's Word. The good news is Satan does not win this battle, but he sure does mess up a lot of good people in the process. Keep praying and stand strong in your faith.

  2. Pam: Your routine sounds great. I am in a rut. Hubby is a night owl and that causes me to be quiet in the mornings as he tries to sleep. Enjoy your time with your hubby and remember tha all of us are caught in a different time sequence. Peace and blessings to you and yours.

    1. Yes, I know everyone has different time routines and we all adapt to whatever works best for us and all concerned. I am thankful for our little routine as it helps us to stay on track and not waver too much. Once in a while we break up the routine and do something different, but not until after we've had our devotions. That is the most important part of the day.

  3. One of my daily devotionals is the monthly "Journey For Women" from LifeWay. Steve reads their "Stand Firm" for men. It seems like there's always a good lesson or a message for me there (I read his too). Right now I'm reading through the Psalms. I read a chapter a day, think about what He said, what happened and how to apply it to my life. All Scripture is good for instruction.
Your photos are always so pretty. I can totally see Simply Linda (in NY) decorating their new house with the beach and nautical theme. She loves the beach.
    Blessings. xx

    1. Those are great devotionals. I've seen the "Journey for Women" one and liked it very much. I love that you are reading a chapter a day from Psalms. I also do that along with a gospel reading and usually either an Epistle reading or something from the Old Testament that all correlates. God's Word is always fresh and new each day. We are blessed to have the freedom to read it. Thank you for visiting. I am praying for Linda and family as they contemplate this next move. I know God is in control.

  4. Unfort...the house was sold by an unknown bidder who bid $30,000+ over the asking price. So, beach decorating will have to wait. BTW, I want all those items, LOLOL. See, I couldn't have a store like that, because I love each and every item, grin.

I also want to comment about the devil...he is roaming free and boasting and taking victims (I call them victims). You see, my name is written in the Book of Life/Lambs, I know where I am going, yes, indeedy, the devil will do everything in his power to stop the goodness--including Christians. Its a sad sad state of affairs we find ourselves in. Our son said today (after he overheard the phone call from our realtor),"Hey guys, that just means the Lord didn't want us there and there is something better out there." Such an intelligent thing to say from a young person. Unfort. we are living in world of sin right now, sad to say...just keeping it real folks...and the devil is roaming freely, just saying.

    1. Oh, Linda, I am sorry for this new disappointment, but your son is so right. Let's choose to focus on the positive side of this and not let Satan get the better of us. His agenda is a failing agenda, and he knows it. He just wants to wreak havoc anywhere and anytime he can...so don't let him get a toe-hold. Stay strong...keep your eyes on Jesus...He's got you covered and He reigns victorious over Satan and all his rotten dominion. They are the losers. We win! Just hang in there. God has GOOD plans for you.

  5. 3+ years into retirement, I've finally realized what I'm missing is having a routine. Gosh, for more than 40 years my life was defined by the clock, the calendar. Now, left to my own devices (heh-heh) it's not a pretty picture. (Doing my best to correct that!)
I'm seriously awe-struck by your photography. So happy for those baby bluebirds' new lives. But darn, their time with y'all seemed so short.
Lovely devotional today; thank you for sharing it with us!

    1. Thank you, Myra. I am glad you enjoyed this. Yes, I believe a routine is probably healthier in the long run, although there are days I would just love to break all the "rules" and be spontaneously crazy! LOL. Once in a while we break routine, but I usually "pay for it" later with exhaustion or other maladies. LOL. And I know, the Bluebirds, the Geese...it's been an interesting spring watching these babies come and go. It would be fun to get to watch them actually grow UP!! Oh well, there's always next spring! Have a blessed weekend. My "My Pillow" just arrived, and I am looking forward to sleeping tonight. I will report later. How's YOUR interesting pillow doing?

  6. I love seeing the Dixie Cottage pictures! Such sweet things there! Your dragonfly photo is frame-worthy! It looks like a photo from National Geographic, it is so good!! Love the devotional you shared, Pam. I am not a morning person anymore... except now I need to get up early again. Gonna take a week or so to get my biological clock reset!! xo

    1. Oh dear! What time do you have to be there? I assume you are just part time? I do hope it is going to be a fun job. You will get back in the routine, and it will be good for you. Thank you for your kind words. I do love getting pictures of dragonflies. They are kind of special little creatures!!

  7. I love all your beautiful photos and I really love the coastal room at the store. My home is all things beachy! We have our routines here to, which I always refer to as our old people routines lol, but our days are full somehow. I always try to remember how I got everything done while working full time, raising three children, and caring for my parents. It seems impossible to me now! Have a great weekend my friend! :)

    1. Oh, you are exactly right...how did we do everything we did when raising our families, working, and all the activities that go along with it? We were younger then and had much more energy than we do now, that's for sure! I am thankful we had our children "young". And yes, our days are still full, but I don't feel like I am accomplishing much anymore. However, sitting here writing to you and others is important "work". I am happy we have this outlet. Have a blessed day!

    1. Thank you, Ruth! I love watching dragonflies, and when one actually stands still long enough for a picture, it is a real blessing!! That particular one was very patient with me, because for some reason my camera was refusing to focus on him and I thought I'd never get it right...and then there it was! I was so thankful he waiting for me to get it done, and then he flew away! Another of God's little blessings...along with watching the baby Bluebirds leave the nest...what a treat that was! I am so happy they made it out to safety!! God is so good.

  9. Yes concentrate on positive...Christians do that...so odd that each generation seems to be sometimes so negative...miracles happening all around us...

    1. You are so right, Brenda! We do have miracles all around us every day, if we just open our eyes to see things through God's eyes. Thank you for your excellent comment!

  10. We are all more comfortable when we have routines, Pamela, and I think we get more done in our days because of them. Loved your photos, dear friend, especially the dragonfly who so graciously posed for you. Benton and Rose certainly have some delightful items in their store, too.
    Blessings!

    1. Thank you, Martha. Yes, I think routine is good. It keeps us in a healthier state of mind as well. But there are times that I would like to "bend the rules" just a little bit! LOL. Hope you are doing well. Still praying for your mother.

  11. That dragonfly is just gorgeous! I hope we get to see one...we're seeing quite a few now. And are the deer flies worse this year where you live? I think they are here! Love the coastal things. Makes me want to redecorated my whole house...I mean dream about it! hahaha! Hugs!

    1. Yes, the deer flies are terrible this year! I can't even go outside to my swing w/o getting attacked by them. So I have to remember to put bug spray on my legs, but even that doesn't always deter them. They are vicious little buggars. I know, I'd love to redecorate with lighter colors too. Everything we have is dark wood. But they are all mostly antiques inherited from family, so I don't feel like I could part with them or paint them. Maybe the next generation to inherit them will do whatever they want, but I won't care then. If I had a "vacation home" somewhere I would definitely do things differently there.
