I saw my first "Blazing Star" of the season blooming yesterday:
This one lone Blazing Star, or "Dense Gayfeather", was standing all alone along the road where we walk. When I see the purple wildflowers starting to bloom along the road, I know that summer is slowly coming to an end and fall will be around the corner.
I haven't found out what these little purple flowers are yet, but they also have been blooming lately where we walk:
It never ceases to amaze me to see how these wildflowers bloom late in the summer and fall, and then they die and drop their seeds into the ground and lie dormant for a year, and then next year around the same time they will rise again from the earth and bloom for a season, year after year, just like clockwork.
I also saw this white "mushroom" growth on this dead tree that was cut down:
Some type of fungi growing on the tree, so apparently what was dead is still providing life for something:
This is on that same cut tree that I may have told you I thought looked like it had a baby growing
inside:
And now, as it lays there on the ground, new life is springing up all around it...new tree growth appearing from the death of the old...
Likewise these other small trees that were cut down and left to rot...new life is rising out of their decay:
As I was writing this above, I felt a recurring theme emerging of "new life out of death". As with many (most) of my posts, I don't prepare them ahead of time or even think about what I am going to write until I start writing. I may have an idea like with my "Wednesday Treasures", of what pictures I will share and what the 'story' might be....but even there, oftentimes something develops as the pictures come together and the message begins to flow. It's not necessarily something I knew would happen...it is often spontaneous and extemporaneous.
And so it is today. I honestly didn't even know what pictures I was going to share until I sat down at the computer this morning around 6:00 a.m. But here is what happened: As I started pulling pictures that I've not yet shared from my "files" from the past week or so, new life was springing up from the old. I stopped around 7:00 a.m. to go and read our morning devotions and said to myself that I would finish this later because I wasn't too sure where this was going. Then I sat down to read from our daily devotional book, and the title of the passage for the day was "Dry Bones, Dormant Seeds". And the key verse for the day was:
"So I prophesied as He commanded me, and breath came into them,
and they lived, and stood upon their feet, an exceedingly great army." Ezekiel 37:10
This was talking about the valley of dry bones that was a sign of the restoration of Israel. You can read more about this in Ezekiel 37.
And in our devotional a little story was shared about some seeds that scientists had found frozen in a "squirrel's burrow in Siberia" for thousands of years. The story goes on to state that "incredibly, researchers got those seeds to sprout and even to produce white flowers!"
And then we read from Matthew 22:23-33, and the key verses spoken by Jesus there were:
31. "But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying,
32. "I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob"? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."
And then those verses led me to thinking about these powerful words of Christ in John 11:25-26, where He is speaking to Martha, the sister of Lazarus, just prior to calling Lazarus forth from the grave four days after he had died and was buried:
25. "Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
26. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"
And so the message here for me and for you today is that God is able to bring new life out of that which was seemingly dead. That could be speaking to us personally about situations in our lives right now...family and personal relationships, faith, employment, health situations, world crisis.
These words give us great hope.
Certainly, the most important part of that message is for us to know that our earthly life here is not the end when we die. For those who are in Christ, we will experience new life, which is eternal. Jesus told Martha that whoever lives and believes in "Me", shall never die.
John 3:16 tells us:
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
And like Jesus asked Martha in John 11:26, we need to ask ourselves:
"Do you believe this?"
This could be the most important question for us to answer ever. In fact, it is.
So I will leave it there for us to each ponder and reflect upon, and hopefully be able to respond in the affirmative.
Amen.
Now, a couple more pictures. I've told you this past week about our new "handyman", "Billy".
Well, Billy has been here working on another major project for us this week, and I asked him if I could take his picture, and he said "It might break your camera, but go ahead."
So here is "Billy the Handyman"
I told you he was a little rough around the edges, but we are discovering that he has a heart of gold,
and we thank God for sending him to us.
Here is a sneak preview of what he is working on. I will let you know when he is finished.
Now I will close with these pictures from our sunset the other night:
At first we thought that cloud looked like a "Scottie Dog", but it changed rapidly into a lion.
I found this description of Jesus as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah on this following link:
https://www.christianity.com/wiki/bible/how-is-jesus-lamb-of-god-lion-of-judah.htmlJesus Is the King of Kings
In the New Testament, the imagery of the lion is further fulfilled in Jesus Christ, who was prophesied to be the “root of David” (Isaiah 11:1-2) and his “branch” (Zechariah 3:8).
In the book of Revelation, the apostle John is also given a vision of the heavenly throne room in which the one seated on the throne is handed a scroll sealed with seven seals (Revelation 5:1-3). When no one is found worthy to open the scroll, John begins to “weep” (Revelation 5:4). This is when one of the elders says to him, “stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals” (Revelation 5:5).
This is clearly referring to Jesus Christ, the Root of David and Lion of the tribe of Judah, who is worthy to open the scroll for being the one to conquer sin and death through his work on the cross (2 Timothy 1:10, Isaiah 25:8, 1 Corinthians 15:25-26, Hosea 13:14).
Here the true power of the King of kings (Revelation 19:16) and Lord of lords (Revelation 17:14) is revealed as a lion who is majestic, fierce in love, and worthy to be called king.
Kind of goes along with our previous verses. This same Jesus, the "Resurrection and the Life", is also the one and the same, Jesus Christ, "The Root of David and Lion of the tribe of Judah."
All the more reason to answer the question Jesus asked Martha above:
"Do you believe this?"
I hope your answer is a clear and resounding, "Yes!".
Have a blessed Friday, my friends.
You don't know how much I needed to see this post.
ReplyDeleteNo, I didn't know, but apparently God did. That is why I love the way God directs me as I sit down to write...these words came from Him today, and very possibly directly for you. God bless you, dear friend. I pray that God's resurrection power will be made manifest in you today. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen.
DeleteThank you
ReplyDeleteThank the Lord. He's the One Who wrote this today. (((hugs))) for you my friend.
DeleteAnother great post, Pamela! Hey, I threw in a bunch of wildflower seeds in a couple of pots/planters, I ought to take a photo to show you what popped up. Let's just say, "Frankenstein" plants, LOL. Our landlady is like, "So, Linda, you growing Marijuana or wacky weed?" LOLOLOLOL--I'm like, "And how would you know what that is?" She goes, "Linda, my nephew grows that stuff." WOW floor me...but no, no wacky weed here.
ReplyDeleteANYWAYS, hope that made your day, our landlady is 85 and is a hoot in a half. smiles
It's great to know that you have a fun landlady and that she can brighten your day like that! I would love to see your "Frankenstein plants". Give them time. Something beautiful may develop yet. Thank you for visiting today. Have a wonderful day.
DeleteThe Blazing Star is so pretty and I love the unknown little flowers too. I enjoyed all of your beautiful photos and your message here today. So glad all is moving along well with your handy man. He looks like a hard working kind soul. Have a great day Pamela :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha. Yes, he is a hard working kind soul. He's had an interesting life to say the least, and he loves to talk. We enjoy talking with him, but we have to leave him alone so he can get some work done! LOL. He works great on his own...we just need to quit bothering him if we want him to get this project finished before Christmas! LOL.
DeleteI always enjoy your posts and they encourage me...thank you. Glad you have a good handy man and cant wait to see the finished product.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. So happy you could visit today. Yes, I can't wait to see the "finished product" too. He is slow, but we aren't in a hurry. We're all old and can't work as long as we used to.
DeleteThis post is one we all need. Yes, I do believe. I could not go on with life if I didn’t have christ living in me. The way you describe how you write a post, is about the way I do it. SOmetimes, even i am surprised at the words that I write.God directs our every moment, if we allow Him to.
ReplyDeleteAmen, Ruth! I believe that is the Holy Spirit at work in us and through us, to get His message across to those who need it most, including ourselves sometimes. I know I've gone back years later to read something I wrote, and I ask myself, "Did I write that? Wow! That's just what I need right now!" It is God's way of ministering to us and through us, and we are blessed in the process. Amen!!
DeleteI love the blazing star (and if you find out what the other is, I hope you let us know) I enjoyed your words on how everything dies off and comes back to life in one form or another! And your handyman is, I'm sure, a kind soul & obviously hard worker!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anni. Perhaps one way to look at it is when we die to self, we become a new creation in Christ! 2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." And yes, our handyman is a very kind soul. We are happy to have found him. As for the other little flower, I think it is a type of "prairie clover", but not sure which one yet...I'm going to keep searching. Thanks for popping in! Have a wonderful weekend.
DeleteI so enjoyed this post, Linda. It was really encouraging to me and ministered hope to me concerning some situations my family and I are facing. It is wonderful how the Lord brought it all together like He did, reinforcing what He wanted you to say through the other devotionals, etc. He is so faithful to do those things as we walk in obedience to Him. We just never know when we hit that "publish" key how much someone needs to hear what God has laid upon our hearts, and I am very grateful that you are faithful to His call upon your life. I loved seeing the beautiful purple flowers, too. That is my favorite color. And, Billy the handyman looks like a very sweet, gentle soul. Sometimes those "rough around the edges" types are God's greatest blessings of all.
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl. So happy you could visit today. (BTW, my name is Pam, but you may call me Linda if you want! :) I'm just happy to have you visit!) I am also happy that this post really spoke to you today. I believe the Holy Spirit was at work in this today, as it seems to have struck a chord with many. I praise the Lord for that, because I am just the vessel He has chosen for today. Tomorrow it may one of the others of us who are here as well, to serve the Lord with our pictures, our thoughts and stories, whatever way He sees best to reach those who may be hurting or needing a word of encouragement. So thankful for this window into God's world. And Billy is a bit "rough around the edges", but we believe God brought him here for more than just to fix our various items. I believe it is a God appointment, and I pray that we can be what we need to be for him, and he is already ministering to us in ways he doesn't even realize. Sometimes we can learn from the most unlikely sources if we just open our ears and listen with our hearts. Have a blessed day, and thank you again...
DeleteYou are seeing the Wonders of God as you walk, how he orchestrated all nature to sing in it's own time. He is the King of Kings and will coming for His children soon. I love reading in Revelations, I don't understand it all but I understand enough and I'm still learning! Anxious to see the finished addition to your porch!!
ReplyDeleteOH yes, Mary! I do believe our King of kings is coming soon for His children. And I know I am ready to hear that trumpet call at any time. But until then, we still have work to do. There are many who still are not so sure they are ready. And we may still have some "rough edges" to get smoothed out first as well. Have a blessed day my friend.
DeleteThe blazing star is gorgeous! It almost seems to glow. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the life out of death theme. Billy looks like a nice guy and interesting character. I'm glad he's been an answer to prayer. Have a great Friday!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Stacy. I think I am feeling more and more like these things are closer than before...speaking of Jesus and the Resurrection, etc.,... And yes, Billy is an interesting character for sure. He loves to talk, and we are learning a lot through him and his perspective on life...not sure if he is a Christian...praying about that...but in his way he cares fiercely for those he loves...we are learning some good things from him. I think it is one of those "God appointments". Time will tell...
DeleteIt's so great to have a handyman you can count on and that knows how to do so many things. I thought that flower was a Sensitive Briar....I see a lot of those and they have a round head of flowers, but yours doesn't quite look like what I've seen. I'm always learning. LOVE that first flower. I'll be on the lookout for it now! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteI just looked up that Sensitive Briar, and although it is very similar, yours looks more like a miniature Mimosa flower than this one. I'm still trying to figure it out, but there no new ones blooming tonight when we went there for our walk. They seem to have gone by already. Thank you for your thoughts and insights! One day we need to take that walk together!!
DeleteOut of death comes life . . . Pamela, what an amazing post/lesson with gorgeous photos to boot! And Billy? He reminds me of the guys in Duck Dynasty. :) Actually, my mother's handyman looks a lot like him, white hair/beard and all. Looking forward to seeing what he is working on regarding your deck.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Don't you love how God puts things together right before our eyes? That's why we need to be watching and listening all the time. Billy is one of those characters that only comes along a few times in life. I believe it is one of those God appointments...not sure who needs who the most, him us or us him, if you understand me. The deck is just God's medium for bringing us together.
DeleteI love how God works through you to share your photos and His word as they come together to make a perfect blog, praising our Father! I always look forward to your posts, Pam! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you Terri. I love how God puts these things together. Woke up this morning without a clue what to do. So thankful for the Lord showing me His plan. Thank you for being here today! I loved your horse pictures today!! They were so cute. Have a wonderful weekend. Praying that storm stays away from us all.
DeletePam, thank you for sharing this beautiful post. New life from old in creation and it happens spiritually as well, when we ask Jesus into our hearts. There's a degree of comfort in the natural rhythms of changing seasons--ORDER. Our Creator God gives us order in our lives.
ReplyDeleteLove and blessings!
Yes, Our Creator God does give us order in our lives, and He demonstrates it to us through His creation, if we'd just pay attention...we'd see His examples all around us. Reminds me of Romans 1:20. WE are without excuse...
DeleteLovely photos. It will be nice to see what Billy is building for you!! Something on the deck it seems. Maybe a canopy?
ReplyDeleteThe big reveal will be sometime this week! It is still a work in progress as we speak. It is something we have needed to do ever since we moved here...
DeleteYou are blessed to have a good handyman. I look forward to seeing what's being built on your deck!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Barbara! We believe God brought Billy to us and we are happy He did! The big "reveal" of what he is doing will be sometime later this week, so stay tuned. Have a blessed day.
