Have a blessed week dear friends!
Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Weekend Recap and Continued Celebrations
If you recall from last week I told you HERE that we would be celebrating our 51st anniversary on August 16th. And so we did. Actually we started celebrating on Saturday, the 15th, by going out to supper with our family. We went to our favorite restaurant, "Corky Bells", because it is overlooks the St. John's River and is always a delightful atmosphere for any kind of celebration.
This was the view from the dock as we waited to be called to our table.
(If you are a Facebook friend you may have already seen most of these pictures. I apologize for repeating, but not everyone of my blogging friends is also a Facebook friend.)
And here we are looking back up at the restaurant from down on the dock. As you can see, they have a lot of outdoor seating, however on that particular day it had been raining quite a bit, so many of the outdoor tables /chairs were too wet to sit on. However, we were able to get a table up under that large blue canopy.
So this is our official 51st Anniversary picture.
We were happy to have our "kids" go with us to help us celebrate.
Here is our youngest son Scott:
And here are our "newlywed kids", (who will celebrate 3 years of marriage in November, hence we still call them the "newlyweds"), Rose and Benton:
We had such a delightful time, and are so thankful for our family.
On Sunday, our actual anniversary day, we went to church as per usual, and here is the
video of our service, which our Pastor records ahead of time to be shown online for those who are still not able to come to our in person services. If you click on this and start at the beginning, you can see our "Praise Team" singing "There is Power in the Blood". Yes, I am the one in the middle, singing alto. We also record these ahead of time for the video, but then we do sing live for the actual service. We are just a small country church, but we love the Lord and enjoy praising and worshiping the Lord together.
Please join in for the message, continuing in the book of Joshua, chapter five. I think you will be blessed.
Following our church service, we went out to "brunch" at our local "True Grits" restaurant, with a few of our church friends, including our Pastor and his wife. It is always a wonderful time of fellowship to be able to eat together. Our son and daughter in law also came along this week, so this was still a continuation of our anniversary celebration!
We've been well blessed and are so thankful for the 51 years the Lord has given us together.
Now switching gears again:
And I showed it to you because my hubby got a new faucet in his bathroom to replace that old faucet.
Well, as a part of our "Anniversary Celebration" we have been doing some extra projects and repairs...things we've been wanting to do here with our house since we moved in a year ago. I may have told you back when we first bought this house that it has not just one master bathroom in our master bedroom, but two master bathrooms in our master bedroom. One bathroom has the shower, (that we just fixed the other day) a toilet and a sink. The other bathroom (mine!) has a garden tub, a toilet, and a sink. Two separate bathrooms...but both in our master bedroom. It has proven to be a very nice arrangement which we never would have thought of ourselves.
Well, anyway, moving right along, the reason I was telling you all of this was because one of the things we decided to do as part of our anniversary "gift" to each other was replace the sink and faucet in my bathroom! My faucet was just like the one above (actually, that picture is of my faucet). But my sink was also having some issues, as in, whoever lived here before must have used some kind of caustic cleaner on it and caused it to have a lot of bumpy texture as well as it was very difficult to come clean. Since this is a manufactured home, the original bathroom sinks were a kind of plastic or fiberglass, but not very high quality. Eventually we will probably have to replace all of them, but since mine was the worst we decided to go ahead and replace it and the faucet at the same time. And since we discovered our new "handyman", "Billy", we decided to make full use of his talents before he disappears like the last one!
So here is my new sink and faucet in my bathroom. I love it!
Now, after going back and re-reading that post above about "the garden tub", in which I took a nice relaxing bubble bath in my tub on my birthday last year, I think it is about time I did that again! If I can get myself down into that tub again, that is, and get myself back out! LOL.
We may be doing some other "projects" this week as a continued part of our anniversary gift. Kind of an anniversary gift to our house to celebrate our one year of living here, as well as a gift to each other. I will be sure to keep you posted when and if anything else "develops".
Proverbs 24:3-6 NKJV
3 Through wisdom a house is built,
And by understanding it is established;
4 By knowledge the rooms are filled
With all precious and pleasant riches.

The views from the restaurant are just gorgeous and I love your official anniversary photo! I'm so glad you were able to spend the weekend celebrating with family and friends. Have fun getting all those little things around the house fixed up while you can. Happy Anniversary once again, have blessed week :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha. We did have a wonderful weekend and we are so thankful to have our kids nearby to do things with. And we are also enjoying getting these little projects done. There's always something that needs to be done! Have a great week.
DeleteWhat a nice weekend you had! Restaurants on the water are so nice and relaxing...and kind of rare here in the mountains of PA! How fun to see and hear you singing! The sink looks fabulous. We live in a manufactured home, too, and the bathrooms sure don't hold up especially when you're raising kids. The one we just completely redid had been the kids bathroom and boy was it bad. Now it's is so pretty. The master bath is next...we're taking out the tub since we have trouble getting in and out of it anyway, and moving the washer and dryer in there so we have more room at the back entry. Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Stacy. What a neat idea, to put your laundry in your master bathroom where the tub is. I don't use my tub either, but I may try again soon. I've been thinking I'd rather put a bigger shower there instead. Our shower in the other bathroom is very small...but that would be a big undertaking and I don't know if we can afford that project. Our laundry is also at the back entrance, and actually I kind of like it there because we still have an adult son living here and he can do his own laundry there because it is next to his bedroom. I wouldn't want him coming into my room to do his laundry, and so I'd end up having to do it...so I guess that idea wouldn't work for us. LOL. Plus he's very dirty when he comes home from work, and he can drop his dirty clothes right there and wash them. Enjoy your new rocker!
DeleteHappy Anniversary to you both! I've enjoyed looking at the photos of when you got married too. I'm glad you were able to do some fun family things over the weekend. And I love all of your home improvements. It feels so good to get things done around the house. Enjoy your week and your walks! I may try to get out tomorrow! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteThank you, Diane. We've been having a good time, and it does feel good to feel like we are accomplishing something. I do hope you can get out today and enjoy the day. Yesterday was kind of overcast all day...we thought it was supposed to rain but it never did. But it kept it feeling a "little bit cooler" with the clouds. Maybe today will be the same. Enjoy whatever you do, and take lots of pictures!!
DeleteI got up this morning and decided I would run over to Bealls and buy new underwear! Wanna come? heeheehee! At least we don't have to try anything on any more...I know my size! lol
DeleteOh what fun! I would love to come, but by the time I could get down there you'd be back home enjoying your new underwear! LOL. I order mine online from Jockey. I get good prices that way and stock up usually once a year. They are "cheaper by the dozen". LOL.

What a wonderful post! I am so glad that you were able to celebrate several days. Getting some things fixed around the house is a great way to celebrate as well. Keep on loving and laughing together .
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ruth. Yes, we are still enjoying "celebrating"...and we do a lot of loving and laughing together here. It keeps us going! Praise God.
DeleteLovely activities to celebrate your 51st anniversary. I think doing projects one year after moving in is a fantastic idea as now you have a good idea what you want to do first. I really like the new faucet you picked for your bathroom sink. Truthfully mine also needs an upgrade but I think I need to replace the entire sink and maybe even the vanity. It was great that your kids were able to join you both for anniversary celebration. The venue has a beautiful view and looks like a great place to make memories. I enjoyed "Power in the Blood". A blessed anniversary week to you and your husband.xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Penny. We have had a wonderful weekend, and we are so thankful to the Lord for bringing it all together. As far as the new faucet goes, what was funny was our "handyman" actually picked out that faucet. I had told him pretty much what I wanted, but what I wanted was a little different than what he got. When he got to Lowes to buy what we had talked about, they were all gone, and this was the next best one and closest to it. I was a little surprised at first because it is "matte black" and I wanted an "oil rubbed bronze", which is more brownish in color. I wasn't too sure how this black would look, but once it was in there I loved it and decided that even in that, God knew what was going to be best, better than I did. We did replace the sink as well, and that took some maneuvering to make it fit, but he did a great job and I am very pleased. And thank you for listening to the song, "Power in the Blood"...that is a "powerful" song that is so true...churches don't sing many of the old time Gospel songs anymore, and they are missing out on so much good theology. We enjoy singing the hymns of faith and praising the Lord! Have a blessed day.
DeleteYour new sink looks amazing, Pamela! And I did love your photos taken at the restaurant - beautiful capture of the river and sky. Enjoy the rest of your anniversary week!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I am enjoying it already! So easy to clean up. The other one the least little spot would just soak right in and not come out even with bleach, so it was time for a change.
DeleteLooks and sounds like you had a good anniversary and glad you got your 'gift' as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda! some ladies get red roses for their anniversaries, which is certainly lovely. But I've always preferred something more practical...like a new bathroom sink! LOL. It works for me just fine!
DeleteHappy anniversary! I know you enjoyed the meal on the river. When my daughter lived in Jacksonville we ate somewhere along the river that was delicious. Don't remember the name of it though. I will go back later today and listen to your message. I like to listen to something positive each day and have been tuning in occasionally to others besides my own (which is great). I find that is much better than news and social media to fill my time.
ReplyDeleteI am sure there are many such places along the St. John's in different locations. This one is close to us and we enjoy it so much. Always a happy and fun atmosphere. I do hope you will enjoy the message. Our pastor is a wonderful Bible teacher. He just retired from serving as the chaplain at our local prison for over 20 years, and he had such a fruitful ministry there. Their great loss is our gain.
DeleteWould you be free from your burden of sin...
ReplyDeleteAmen. There is power in the blood.
I forgot about social distancing for a moment there. I wonder why they're all so far apart? 😂
"Are you for us or for our enemies?" "Neither." 💜
When your pastor was talking about Jericho being rebuilt it struck me that the king's name was remembered (of course) but also his sons' names were remembered too, the ones who were lost because of the curse. Even them. They were not forgotten.
I love what he said about Rahab too. Sometimes preachers try to neaten up that story and call her an innkeeper. I like that he did not. Rahab's story is redemption, hers and those with her.
Thank you for listening to the message. Our Pastor is a wonderful Bible teacher, having just retired from over 20 years as a Prison Chaplain. He had a very fruitful ministry there, and I know they miss him. But their loss is our gain. Yes, Rahab actually fits into the line of Christ at some point...the mother of Boaz and into the line of David the King. Pretty amazing how God works His redemptive story, isn't it?
DeleteIt is! :)
DeleteI really love that faucet. smiles.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you had a lovely anniversary dinner, it looks so relaxing there by the water, smiles.
Thank you. It wasn't the faucet I had picked out, but when our "handyman" went to purchase the supplies, they had sold the last one. So he chose this one as being pretty close to it. When I saw it at first I was a little disappointed because I wanted the oil rubbed bronze, and this is matte black. But once he got it installed with the new sink, it looks great and it turned out better than I could have figured out. God works in mysterious ways!!
DeletePAM: Your praise team sang that song well. I love the message of those verses.
ReplyDeleteThank you Cecelia! It is a very special song, and we love to sing it, can you tell? Praise God!
DeleteThat looks like a wonderful place to celebrate your anniversary. I love sitting by the water and enjoying a good meal with family or friends. We have some very nice places in Kemah. There's a boardwalk, lots of shops and great restaurants with outside seating by the water.
ReplyDeleteYes, I enjoy outdoor waterfront dining the best, but if we can't be outdoors, to at least have a view of the water is really nice. Your boardwalk, etc., sounds really nice. That would be fun for a stroll after dining. There are some places on the beach like that...we just don't get over that far very often. It is over an hour's drive and hubby just isn't into driving very far anymore, especially if there's traffic. So we pretty much stick to places close to home.
DeleteYour photos of the St. John's River make me want to find that restaurant!! Beautiful. Happy anniversary (again!)!! Love seeing the photos of you, John, and the 'kids'! I also loved hearing you sing with your praise team!! Very nice! Happy Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteWell, when you and Joe come up this way again we will definitely have to go together!! It is in East Palatka (which is right beside Palatka.) It is less than 20 miles from our house. Thank you for visiting and listening to us sing. We have a good time together singing for the Lord. Nothing fancy...just good old fashioned Gospel singing! Have a blessed week.
Delete51 years together is such a big deal!! (I'm oroud to say Bud & I celebrated 52 this year). And your get together & dining on the river seems fantastic! Love the black faucet!
ReplyDeleteWell, congratulation to you and Bud! 52 is also quite an accomplishment! We are in a "rare breed club" in this day and time. Oh, I'm glad you like my faucet. It turned out better than I thought it would. I had another one in mind, but they were out of them, so this is what we got, and I really like it, so it all worked out for the best.
DeletePam, it looks like you had a wonderful anniversary celebration! Yes, yes, there's power in the blood of Jesus!
ReplyDeleteLove and blessings!
Yes, there IS Power in the Blood! Praise God!! Thank you, Kim!!
DeleteFrom one Alto to another, you held your part very well! Great song!
ReplyDeleteYour bathroom update is looking very good. Doing things to make your living space more comfortable and beautiful is a wonderful way to celebrate an anniversary!!
And thank you for the pictures of the St. Johns River. I do miss seeing it now that we are in Ocala. We saw (and drove over) it MANY times when we lived in Jacksonville.
Thank you, Barbara! I do enjoy singing and am glad we are able to continue in this small way. As for the St. John's River, you and Tom are welcome to come anytime. We could go to Corky Bells and enjoy it together! Maybe when it cools down some!!
