NEWS UPDATE: Please see on the sidebar of my blog that there is link to "The Adventures of Lily Grace". Lily is going to have her own blog and will be sharing her adventures with us as she writes letters to her "Aunt Debbi and Identical Cousin Tracie". If you enjoyed this, I think you will enjoy Lily's blog. The first episode is pretty much the same as this post, but it will be changing with new excitement and fun with every post. I hope you will come visit Lily Grace at her own new blog! (which is still under construction, so bear with me...)
The other day I mentioned that a blogging friend was sending me an unexpected gift (HERE), and I promised to share it with you when it arrived.
Here she is! I know you are probably wondering why someone would send me such a sweet doll in the mail! Well, I wondered the same thing at first when my friend said she had found this doll and was going to send it to me. You see, this dear friend loves dolls much like I do...and she had shared a picture of her doll just like this on her blog. (I am not going to share her name because I wouldn't want to put her on the spot...but she is a very thoughtful and giving person). I happened to mention that I loved her doll and thought she was so very cute and sweet and fun. And the next thing I knew, she had found one for me and was sending it! Oh my! I was so surprised and somewhat amazed. I certainly never intended for her to go out and buy this doll for me...but she wanted to "bless me" with this doll...she said it gave her joy to do so. And you know what? It gave me such joy to just think about the fact that this cute little doll was on her way to me that I felt much like an expectant mother waiting for her baby to be born!
Before my friend put the doll in the mail, she took a series of pictures of her "seeing the sights" around her town so that she would have some adventures to tell us about when she arrived here. My friend prepared her with as much information as she knew to give her about our home and where we live and what to expect...but of course she would have to wait until she got here to see it all for herself.
Well, when I told my hubby that we were about to have a new little member added to our family, I was afraid he might think I'd slipped a cog or something...but do you know what that sweet man said? "Well we'd better come up with a name for her!" Oh my! He was absolutely right! We couldn't name her the same thing that her identical twin was named...(whom we decided would be an identical twin cousin, much like the Patty Duke show...remember them? Well, if you don't you must be much younger (or older) than I am). However, we both agreed that we would wait until she arrived to decide on her name...much like we did with our three sons. We tossed different names around, but didn't make a final decision until we saw them face to face. (Of course, when they were coming along we never knew whether or not they were a boy or a girl until they were born. That's how long ago THAT was!) And that is what we decided we would do with this new little friend.
So today was THE day. I had actually been out to breakfast with a dear friend from church, who just happens to be named "Pamela"!! I invited her in to see our house and to visit a little more, when the mail-lady pulled up in front of our house and started honking her horn! I ran outside and saw that she had this package, and I knew then that our new little friend had arrived!
Here I am feverishly trying to extricate the sweet little dolly from her box. They sure do make packaging so difficult these days...
Finally she was free and able to "breathe" some fresh air!
Thankfully, my friend Pamela is a "Kindred Spirit" and totally loved the doll as much as I did. I think she would have liked to have taken her home with her...but that wasn't going to happen...
This cute little girl with her flowers in her hair and tie dyed t-shirt and long lace coat, boots and guitar with a karaoke machine and a microphone was going to stay here with us and liven this old place up a bit! LOL.
And so we started right away with trying to come up with a name...and we all agreed we would just wait a while and a name would come to us. While we were examining all of her little special gifts and things that came with her, I heard my hubby say something from his chair where he was sitting and trying not to act like he was too interested...I heard him say, "I think her name should be "Lily".
My friend Pamela and I looked at each other and agreed! "Lily" was a lovely name for this "flower child"! It suited her perfectly. Also, my hubby went on to say that his paternal grandmother's name was "Lillian", and so "Lily" would be short for "Lillian". I then added the middle name of Grace. Lillian Grace. Grace because she is an "unexpected blessing". "Unmerited favor" is the biblical definition for "Grace". And Lily is just that...an "unexpected gift", an undeserved favor...from a very special friend!
And so please meet the newest member of our family:
"Lily"...or "Lillian Grace".
The first thing Lily wanted to see was "the big pond".
She was pretty amazed at how big it was and hopes to see some geese or ducks tomorrow. They weren't out there this afternoon.
Next she watched me write a note to our dear friend who sent her to us, letting her know that she had arrived safely!
Then Lily wanted to meet her new "family" here, and they were all quite excited to meet her as well. They had a little tea party for her and even brought some cake. Lily played some songs on her guitar for them and they all sang together. As you can see, Lily is quite the modern young lady compared to the rest of this group. She will definitely be a fun and lively new addition to the "family".
Later in the evening our "big kids" came over for pizza:
And they were very "happy" to meet Lily.
We decided that she kind of takes after "Aunt Sherrie" a bit.
It's nice that our family members are all good sports and like to humor me with my dolls and toys and things...
And so that is the story of "Lily Grace"...
and it is to be continued, you can rest assured of that. I think she will be taking me out for a lot of new adventures! I don't believe she will be content to just sit at home and have tea parties!
So until next time...why not be an unexpected blessing to someone else today...
Let us be givers of "unmerited grace" to others who may be in need of a lift to their spirits.
God is teaching me a lot about this lately.
Thank You, Lord.
(And thank you to my very special friend...you know who you are!)
What a cute post and what a lovely friend you have to send Lillian Grace to you! I look forward to more adventures :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Martha! My friend is a very lovely person and she has truly blessed me with Lillian Grace! Yes, I am sure there will be more adventures in the near future! Stay tuned! Have a blessed and beautiful day.
DeleteWhat a delightful name for a delightful little doll. She is so cute. I'm glad your husband enjoyed choosing a name for the new member of your family and that your other family members have welcomed her whole heartedly.
ReplyDeleteThank you Penny. I guess sometimes "girl's just gotta have fun!" I am finding that out as I get older it's okay to embrace our "inner child" once in a while and just enjoy playing again. I think "Lily" will show me that life's too short to just sit inside and do old people stuff. LOL. Have a blessed and wonderful day.
DeleteOh how very special!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ruth. I thought so too!! As I just said to our friend "Joyful" in my reply to her comment above, I think "Lily" will show me that life's too short to just sit inside and do old people stuff! It's okay to embrace our "inner child" once in a while and just enjoy playing again! Have a blessed and wonderful day.
DeleteLily Grace suits her perfectly and she fits in well with her new family. I am giving people grace in these difficult days and weeks and months, grace which has been freely given to me.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terra. Yes, Lily Grace is already livening things up around this house! Sometimes we just have to stir things up a bit and start enjoying life again. And yes, extending grace to others is a big NEED in our society today. (((hugs)))
DeleteLillian Grace is a cutie and how sweet of someone sending her to be enjoyed by all.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree! She is already inspiring me to think about setting up her very own blog so I can write more about her adventures there! We shall see if I am "up to it". But having this sweet little "girl" watching me write somehow inspires me...
DeleteSo nice to meet you Lily and welcome to the family! (smiles) I hope you have a beautiful day, friend. smiles
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you have met Lily...and now you can get to know her better because she has her own blog...see the side bar for the link to "The Adventures of Lily Grace". It is still a bit under construction, but we are having fun in the process! Have a beautiful day too...although now it is night! xoxo
DeleteHow wonderful! And yes, I know who this special friend is because she is special to me too! What a fun gift and just like her to do something like this! I know Lily will love living in Florida! Hugs to you...Lily...and our special friend! Have FUN!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Diane! Yes, I know you know...and now we just have to get together sometime with our dollies and have a play date. Lily Grace has captured my imagination and she now has her own blog...check out the sidebar for the link to "The Adventures of Lily Grace". Still a bit under construction, but having fun in the process. xoxo
DeleteWhat a beautiful and unique doll, Pam! She will make a fine addition to your collection, indeed. And I love how your imagination runs rampant in making up stories about her. So creative! I'll look forward to seeing more of Lily Grace in the future.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Thank you, Martha! Lily Grace has already captured my heart and my imagination. She now has her own blog...check out the side bar for the link to "The Adventures of Lily Grace." It is still under construction, but hopefully will be a happy and fun place for children of all ages. You understand that, don't you? xoxo.
DeleteLoved the Patty Duke Show! Buzzing around in my head .... suppose I can remember all the lyrics?
ReplyDeleteYour Lillian Grace is sure a cutie. That's so sweet, your hubby wanting to name her after his grandmother. Because I love the name, back when we adopted our pups I felt the gentle little runt with the big eyes should be called Grace. Her middle name, Evelyn, was my mother's name -- who totally personified grace.
Don't stop playing! :)
If you can remember all the lyrics (without looking it up) you are better than me! We are already having such fun with Lily Grace, and now she has her own blog...check out the link on the sidebar to "The Adventures of Lily Grace". It is still under construction, but check back often to see what she's up to. I love that you named your sweet Pup Grace Evelyn. That is really sweet. I have a dear friend named Evelyn, and she is also full of grace, but also quite the character. One of my favorite people ever.
DeleteYour doll is beautiful! How kind of your friend to send it to you! Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeletehttps://lorisbusylife.blogspot.com/
Thank you Lori. I am having such fun with her. I never had a little girl, so I guess I am using all my little girl mommie skills to enjoy playing with her. Lili now has her own blog...see the sidebar for the link to "The Adventures of Lily Grace". It is still under construction, so come back often to visit.
DeleteWhat fun!!! I enjoyed meeting Lily Grace and think that is the perfect name for her! I loved that Patty Duke show and watched it every week, so I am of the perfect age to agree with you!! LOL Looking forward to the Lily Grace adventures!! Happy weekend! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri! I knew you'd be a Patty Duke fan too. Of course Lily Grace is quite different from Patty Duke, but it's the idea of identical cousins that we borrowed. Lily now has her own blog...check out the sidebar for a link to "The Adventures of Lily Grace". It is still under construction, so bear with us as we work out the bugs! but please come back and visit soon.
DeleteI've fallen in love with Lily Grace! She has certainly found a wonderful home and I know she'll be very happy there!!
ReplyDeleteOh, Mary! I'm so glad you love her too! She just has such a winsome face and is so sweet and happy and fun! I guess God knew what I needed! Lily now has her own blog...see the sidebar for the link to "The Adventures of Lily Grace". We are still working the bugs out so bear with us and come back and check her out often!
Deletewow I LOVE the name Lily Grace. I can't wait till I can get my dolls out of the storage shed and hopefully they are not broken as they are porcelain. I know you will have a wonderful time in you new home LILY
ReplyDeleteOh I do hope your dolls are okay in the storage shed, and that they aren't getting too hot in there. Sometimes heat can be very hard on dolls. I understand, however, that sometimes we have to do what is necessary and prioritize what we have to have with us. Been there and done that...and have a storage shed full too. Lily now has her own blog...see the sidebar for the link to "The Adventures of Lily Grace". We are still working out the bugs...so stay tuned.
DeleteWhat fun your friend created for you--so clever! You'll have to share Lily Grace's adventures now and then as they unfold. P.S. I'm another one who remembers fondly the Patty Duke show!
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy! I am looking forward to getting to know you better! Thank you for visiting here today...and you might want to check out Lily Grace's new blog, "The Adventures of Lily Grace" (see the link on the sidebar). It is still under construction and we are working out the bugs, but having fun doing so. Have a blessed day...another Patty Duke contemporary!!
DeleteWhat a delightful post, Pam! Lily Grace is beautiful and is incorporating into your family (both human and dolls) so very well! Yes, I remember the Patty Duke show. Such cleverness!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you visited us and have now met the newest member of our family! Lily Grace is already changing a lot things around here...and now she even has her own blog!! Amazing what the unexpected blessing of a little "girl" can do to change your perspective on things! I am having a lot of fun with her. I hope you will visit Lily at her new blog. It is still under construction at bit, but little by little we will work out the bugs!! xoxo
DeleteOh my goodness, I love Lily Grace. It reminds me of one the American Girl dolls they developed for the 70s. I think her name was Julie, but Lily is perfect. I can't wait to read more from Lily.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sandy! Lily has her own blog now. Over on the sidebar there is a link to "The Adventures of Lily Grace". It is still a work in progress, but I am having fun playing with her and her little story. Helps keep my imagination working and my brain flowing. or vice versa. Anyway, you know what I mean. Hope you enjoy her stories.
DeleteLily Grace is so cute! That is nice that your husband supports you. My husband does to when I tell him I am going to summer camp or on a virtual cruise with my online friends. I think using our imagination is good for our brains, physically and emotionally. Why not, we have raised our kids and are retired. It is 1 am and I need to get to bed. I will have to come back. Enjoy the new week Pam!
ReplyDeleteOh good morning Susan! I hope I don't wake you up! You were certainly up late last night! It was 1 a.m. your time, and 4:00 a.m. our time! Wow! But yes, you are so right. We need to continue to use our imagination and challenge our brains to keep thinking and creating new things. It will help stave off dementia and other things and keep us happier. Lily Grace is certainly making me wake up with new ideas and thoughts about what kind of adventures we can find each day. So now, while you are finally sleeping, Lily and I will be seeking new adventures to share with you later!! Have a blessed day!
DeleteWhat a lovely story, Pam. Those sweet and thoughtful gifts are so unexpected, yet also a blessing.
ReplyDeleteLove and blessings!
Yes, sometimes the unexpected are the sweetest of all! Thank you, Kim. I am very thankful for these special blessings, and you are one of them!
DeleteThis is beautiful, Pam!
ReplyDeleteI never really played with dolls as a child. I had many stuffed animals that I would line up and play school (always the practical one) but I never allowed myself to play pretend with dolls.
I wonder... if perhaps in 2021 I might treat myself to a doll and have adventures with her as you do with Lily (?) Dare I try to reconnect with that inner child? I think I just might...
THANK YOU for the inspiration!
Now I'm off to read Lily's blog and see what she's been up to this February :)
Oh my dear Molly! It is never too late to reconnect with your "inner child"! I believe we need to see the world through the eyes of a little child again, especially during these difficult days when everything is so serious all the time. We need to use our imaginations to open our eyes and hearts to the beauty around us and see things from a different perspective. I do hope you will try...and thank you for visiting Lily Graces's Adventures. She was most happy to meet you and make your acquaintance. Please do let me know when you find that special little doll friend to enjoy. You may be pleasantly surprised at the adventures that will unfold right before your eyes!! Blessings to you today dear friend!!
