Christmas is Coming!

Christmas is coming!

I have to tell you I really didn't think I'd be able to get the tree up and decorated this year. But yesterday our son Scott came home (after working for several hours in the early morning and then driving an hour to get here) and by the time we got home from lunch after church he had the tree already standing in the living room with the lights on it! That was a miracle to me! (And we brought him a nice hot cheeseburger and fries from the restaurant for his lunch too). As the afternoon progressed, I did manage to start putting the decorations on it, and by evening it was looking pretty good!
These pictures are a realistic view into our living room when the Christmas boxes come in from the storage shed...again, thanks to our son Scott.  He dodged a little bit of rain to get everything in just in time before it really started pouring.

Then, since he was still here with us, we called the other "kids" to come over to visit and have an impromptu "breakfast for supper"...bacon, sausage, eggs, and biscuits. It was pretty good and fun to be together before Scott had to hit the road to get back to Jacksonville.

Our grandpup Sugar was enjoying sitting in her Daddy's lap and stretching her head backwards to look at the pretty tree...

It did look very nice. I love the lights most of all, don't you? There's just something about lights at Christmas...

We didn't try to put up the train/village last night as we were all a bit too tired to start that project. Still not sure if it will happen this year or not...time will tell.  If I can't get down on the floor and back up again, then it probably won't happen, unless the kids want to come back over and spend another evening playing with the trains. However, I must say, I truly believe I am starting to turn the corner with this arm/shoulder/back pain...little by little, day by day, I believe it's getting better...but I still have to pace myself and not overdo it. I do give thanks to the Lord for the improvement that seems to be happening.

Today I did a few more things...the Tea Cup tree is ready,

along with the angels singing...

And tonight I had my first official cup of hot cocoa of the season (hot ovaltine,  actually...my favorite!)
It's always fun to sip a cup of hot cocoa while watching the skaters and the sleds on the little pond...(lol)

Poinsettias and candles and the little white church make the table look pretty and bright...

This little white church was a Christmas gift last year from my sister in law. I love it.   I love how it lights up and shines so brightly.
It reminds me of our own little white church, and it "shines so brightly" as a light in the darkness around us.

Yesterday we sang this song in the choir..."Christmas is Coming, let the church bells ring...people celebratin' the birth of a King...shoutin' hosanna 'til the heavens ring! Christmas is comin', let the church bells ring..."    You might enjoy listening to the song...this is not our choir singing, but we did our best to sound this good...

Do you ever wonder why we have so many lights shining at Christmas?  Maybe it's because of the Star of Bethlehem that the Wise Men followed...or perhaps even more so, the lights of Christmas shine for Jesus..."The Light of the World"

John 1:1-14
"1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.

9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth."

And in John chapter 8:12, Jesus declares to us:

12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Yes, I believe that is why we love the lights so much at Christmas...because we celebrate the birth of Jesus, "The Light of the World".    So now, when you see those lights twinkling and shining so brightly everywhere, on Christmas trees, in the windows of houses and churches, on the rooftops and porches all across the land...wherever you may see the lights of Christmas, remember that Jesus is the Light of the World...and whoever follows Him will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life!  Praise God for that beautiful Light, Jesus, the Light of the world!!

Happy Advent!!

  1. How wonderful to have Scott come and carry the decorations for you and get everything ready for you to decorate. I hope you're feeling well enough for your train set-up or the kids come back over. I really love how close you are to your kids and that they're willing to help. We're enjoying be close to Mandy's family by living here. Our kids are scattered far and wide, so it's good to have at least one grandchild here. :-)
Your breakfast for dinner looks very good. I actually scrambled eggs with some deli hame and parmesan cheese for dinner along with raisin bread. It was very good. We've always enjoyed breakfast for dinner.
Yes indeed, Jesus is the LIGHT of the WORLD. I try to remember that myself when I see all of the hoopla surrounding Christmas these days and not much of Christ in it. We can connect Him with all of the lights that are on display this time of year. We are also to be His light in the world. Sometimes when the world gets so angry and chaotic, it's easy to pull inside and not be with others. I'm trying to make a concious effort this year to be more available to others when I can.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  4. Gorgeous treed...lovely...My little tree has been up awhile. My family put up their 20 foot tree. Wow...I am glad that I do all of this early...light is so needed during the times of Covid and RSV...etc...I have never thought it was important to have a certain date to do this...I guess the longer I have the decorations of our Lord's birthday around me, the better. Take care and have a Merry Christmas. You have a darling family. I continue to enjoy your blog...lately, when I read a new one or two...they seem to fine until I reach the end...and then they get...whew...thank you for this year of blogs...My word for 2024 is Imagine...Imagine if all Christians walked the walk...and watched the talk...Prayers

  5. Hi Pamela, I am glad you got help with Christmas decorating. My grands have been helping me. My shoulder is slowly healing too. This rotator cuff thing is painful. I have better range of motion now, but one movement really hurts! I decorate several trees and I am taking my time. I have one more to go. I enjoyed the verses you posted!

  6. You did GOOD, Pam! The tree is gorgeous, but my heart belongs to it's little sis "Teacup." I don't recall having seen that one before; or at least forgot. That shot of Sugar admiring the tree is precious. Funny, our girls are doing much the same thing. Normally, Macie doesn't have anything to do with 'her' baby bed, but I set them out in front of the tree and both have been laying side-by-side watching the lights flashing on and off.
Breakfast for supper is a real treat every now and then. I love y'all's spontaneity!

  12. Your tree looks amazing, Pam, and I do love the lights on it (Yes, the Light of the World!). I love gazing at the lights on our tree and the new string of lights Danny got to place around our Nativity scene. Cozy and bright!
And I don't think there's anything better than having family over and having breakfast for dinner. Yum! I'm so glad your sons live close to the both of you. That certainly makes the season merry and bright.
    Blessings!

  15. Looks like it's all coming along - you have your tree up. I still don't have mine up yet. It will go up when it goes up. That was nice of your son to help you with the tree. My husband does that for me. Then we both decorate the tree after he puts the lights on. Probably tomorrow...today he is mowing the lawn and blowing the fallen leaves. It was a mess out there! I really like that little white church. I enjoy breakfast for dinner more than for breakfast. I know a bit backwards but that is me.

    Cherish the Season!

  17. oh gosh, THAT is a very familiar sight---the big plastic boxes, tubs, red lids! ha ha LOL! I think we emptied and carried the last of them out yesterday, VERY GLAD to get those out of here! LOL. I'm so glad y'all got those new floors put in, they are sure pretty!....love them and bet you are sure enjoying them too. Your tree turned out BEAUTIFUL, love the reflection in the window. Such a pretty, sparkling tree. It always feels so good to finally get it all up, doesnt it? We got ours UP, we got lights ON IT. But I still havent got the ornaments on it, LOL. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe NOT. ha ha. We are just taking our time, and being slow. Much more peaceful, and NO STRESS! I do hope the kids can come back and help get your train set, put down. Because I know it brings back alot of happy memories for you. But IF NOT....everything else still looks so pretty and you can enjoy that, no stress, right? LOL. I love that little white church that glows. Very pretty, and your tablecloth looks so cheery. Did y'all get the little grapevine tree outside done? Your little tea cup tree is adorable, all those sweet little cups! I love that painting you have sitting on your fireplace and I just put one of those little white deer on our tree---it's IDENTICAL to your deer there. Oh! We saw a BIG BIG BIG herd of deer the other night! That was quite a thrill! We see lots of singles, doubles, mommies with a baby or two, but never a big herd like that one was. Love ya! Hugs! PS......thank goodness----the COLD IS GONE. Its been cool, humid, warm, breezy and so nice these past few days. PLUS!!! with the freeze, all the dang "air jaws" "skeeters" are goooooooooooooooooooone! yipee!d LOL

    1. It is 47 degrees this morning, and will be colder the next few days! So our little warm respite is over...back to "winter", but for us here in Florida, it still isn't as bad as what people have up north, so no complaints! Little by little we are getting more done here...yes, no stress...plus trying to do some shopping in between decorating. Right...no stress here... and then Walmart didn't have ANY Boxed Christmas cards at all! NONE. So I had to order them...hopefully they will get here in time to send them out...no stress here...no stress here...LOL LOL LOL. Love ya!
