Happy Thanksgiving!

This little Thanksgiving poem was read in church on Sunday, and it spoke to a lot of us...so I thought I would share it with you today, on Thanksgiving Day, 2022.

So today, I am counting my "joys instead of my woes..."  As I am sick and had to cancel our Thanksgiving dinner with our family.  It started up Tuesday afternoon, thankfully after I was able to meet with my brother and his wife and their daughter for breakfast and a tour of Dixie Cottage and then also they came to our house for a little while as my niece had never been here before and wanted to see the pond, etc.

I had a little bit of a scratchy throat that morning, but I have allergies and didn't think much of it because I still felt just fine.  But later in the afternoon, long after they had left, I started going downhill with more symptoms of sinusitis, etc.  I went to our Dr. for a Covid test just to be sure, and it was negative.  They said it appeared to be sinusitis, and really there's not much that can be done for that except just drink lots of fluids, rest, and take tylenol and cold medicinc and vitamin C.  So that is what I've been doing, but by Wednesday morning I was running fever and chills and aches and pains, so I had to call my sister to let her know that I would not be able to cook a Thanksgiving dinner here, and they will have to figure out something else.  They managed to find everything they needed at their local Costco, as they live near the city and have a lot more options than we do here, so they will be fine, but we will miss being together.

Our kids Rose and Benton are going to go ahead and cook the 20 lb. turkey that was supposed to be for our big group since it was already thawed out, and they also will fix all the necessary sides and bring us a plate today.  Son Scott is also coming.  I do feel some better this morning, but still not well enough to host a big dinner by any means. However, before I got sick I did manage to get our house back in order after all the upheaval from the floor installation.  I wanted to have everything ready for today:

All the Thanksgiving turkeys and pilgrims and pumpkins are back in place...

Ready to welcome our guests and set a festive air.  Hubby says I worked too hard over the past couple of weeks with all of the packing, dust, mess, unpacking, etc., and that probably lowered my resistance so I got sick. I know I did breathe a lot of dust in the process...but thankfully our house is pretty much dust free now! LOL. (for now, I should say...that does take regular maintenance).

I even got Pamela's Victorian Cottage back together again, and installed new light fixtures...after that mystery light incident last month that I told you about HERE.  It did turn out that the batteries had exploded in the container and so that set of lights had to be discarded. I finally found some new ones at the Dollar General, and now the little family is all comfy and cozy in their bright little house again, and ready for Thankgiving:

Well, dear friends, that's about it. I must be getting better because I was able to sit up at my computer and write this, which I couldn't do yesterday. I am very thankful that this wasn't anything too serious, but mainly very annoying because of the timing and disappointment for everyone.  But God knows best. It's very foggy out there this morning and perhaps it wouldn't be a good day to travel the two hours here from my sister's house over the river and through the woods.  God always knows best.
"Count your health
instead of your wealth,
Count on God instead of yourself."
Amen.

Give thanks, with a thankful heart...
Have a blessed Thanksgiving Day my friends, wherever you are and whatever your circumstances.
Thanksgiving is a state of the heart that should last all year round.

  1. Beautiful poem, Pamela. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I am a little sniffly and sneezy too. Youngest son had a fever earlier in the week. Oldest son and husband seem fine, but we are staying home today too. My husband's family is bringing us food. Probably going to leave it on the porch and back away slowly. ๐Ÿ˜‚

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

  2. Keep feeling better, Pam! It's always a challenge when our holiday plans have to change at the last minute. Sounds like your family is rising to the occasion and there will be a turkey dinner to enjoy!

Thankfully, our gratitude need not be dependent upon our circumstances! God has given us so much to be thankful for every day.

A blessed Thanksgiving to you and yours!

  3. God bless your sweet ❤️ and heal your body! I agree with your husband about being run down and not having the resistance to infection right now. You’ve been burning your candle at both ends lately!
I know this was a major disappointment for you and all your family but they picked up and rallied around!

It looks so cozy at your house! Now you can rest and enjoy looking at it as you can strength.

I love your attitude! So YOU to count your blessings no matter what!

Happy Thanksgiving, my dear! Love and prayers as you recover!

Praying that you will feel better and better and that your day will be pleasant and restful.

  8. Sorry to hear you are sick on Thanksgiving and not able to enjoy all your family together. I'm also missing out of our family Thanksgiving. Such is life and everything is going to be just fine. Good of Rose and Benton to step up and get a good meal together and be bringing you a plate. My kids are doing the same for Dean and I. I love your doll house, I've been shopping for one and there's nothing out there I like that I can afford. I really need to shop some local stores that carry 'old stuff.' Happy Thanksgiving, prayers of healing coming your way.

  10. This is a beautiful post, Pam, in spite of the illness that has slowed you down. John is probably right in thinking all you've had to do recently contributed to lowering your resistance -- but sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do, right?!! Your venture with the flooring problems required a lot of you and there was just no other way around it. Anyway, I'm glad you are sensing improvement and am so glad your family has been willing and able to accommodate the last-minute changes. Happy Thanksgiving to you. I am thankful for your friendship and all the encouragement you have been to me through the years of our friendship!

  11. Nasty stuff that ruined both of our Thanksgiving plans, but all is well. I got Christmas out and up, so that is done here. I'm watching movies and getting my Christmas card address list updated. You got everything put back so you are ready to start your Christmas decorating!! Take care and get back to 100% before you try to do too much! xo

  12. So sorry to hear that you were down for the count on Thanksgiving, Pamela, but I'm glad to hear you're feeling better now. At least you did get to visit with your brother and his family for a bit earlier in the week. That is a blessing!
    Take care, my friend!

  13. Aw Pam, I love how your family encircles you with nourishment -- for the tummy AND the heart. As ever, I'm so taken with these images! Please take it easy and try not to "take it to the limit." (Remember that old Eagles song?)

  17. Oh, Pam! I'm so sorry you got sick over Thanksgiving! I pray you feel better quickly. You probably did overwork yourself over the last few weeks getting ready for the new floor and all the other things you do. I hope you were able to enjoy the dinner that Ben and Rose brought over for you! I love your doll house. I had one years ago and gave it to a grand daughter. I've been itching to begin another one! I hope this weekend finds you perkier. Just get rest! Hugs.
