Thankful Thursday and A Surprise Visitor to the Butterfly Garden

Good Thursday Morning and welcome to the Butterfly Garden at Still Waters Pond!
Guess who our special visitor was this morning?
That's right! A Monarch Butterfly!  The first I've seen!!

I was truly excited to see her flitting among the flowers of the garden,  especially the milkweed.
That is the flower they love the most.

This was the main purpose for starting this butterfly garden...so encourage the butterflies to come and enjoy...and also for us to enjoy watching them.

I do hope that this lovely Monarch will be the beginning of many more.  Time will tell.

Meanwhile, just above the butterfly garden is the Bluebird House. Mama and Papa Bluebird continue to bring food to the babies inside, but now we see them taking food in and bringing it back out, to try and entice the babies to come outside.

Here's a "birds eye view" so to speak...one of the baby bluebirds peeking up and out to see what the big wide world looks like. I expect to see them fledge out of the nest any day now...
It's wonderful to have this front row seat to watch God's Creation right outside our door.

Speaking of beautiful views...

The other day I had a Dr.'s appointment out of town, and on the way back home it was lunch time so we stopped at our most favorite place to eat in this area, "Corky Bells", which is situated right on the St. John's River.  We were blessed that it was still early enough that it wasn't too crowded or too hot yet to sit outside on their lower deck, right next to the water...

And here's my favorite view of all:

And hubby almost missed his favorite view by putting his finger over the lens...

Thankfully I was able to realize the problem in time to get a full picture taken.
Looks like the lady behind me was enjoying the sunshine too...lol.

It was delightful to watch people coming and going in their boats while we dined...

It was truly a perfect day for boating and dining on the river. However, we came the traditional way, in our car. LOL.

Of, of course one must see what we ate:
Here's my broiled shrimp and scallops, hush puppies and baked potato. I had already eaten the coleslaw.

And here's hubby's fried shrimp and fish and french fries and hush puppies. He had already eaten his coleslaw too.  This was the lunch menu.  If you come for supper you get a lot more food, but you pay a lot more too! That's why we love to come for lunch!

Speaking of good food and good company...
On Wednesday we had our monthly women's meeting at our church. I might have mentioned HERE the other day that I was on the refreshment committee for this month's meeting.  In keeping with a summer theme, we had pink flamingo decor....

but I forgot to take any pictures after we put out all the food...I guess because I was too busy preparing and serving...

In addition to the pink flamingos, when my friend saw that the little banner stretched across the table said "Luau Party", she decided to run back to the Dollar Tree and purchase some leis to give to each of the ladies as they arrived. I wish I had taken some pictures of that.  There were more ladies than we had leis for, so my friend and I gave ours away, otherwise I'd show you mine. The ladies all loved the luau atmosphere...it made for a lovely time of fun and fellowship.

Anyway, we had a wonderful time, and there was plenty of good food...chicken salad sandwiches, potato salad, veggie tray, and this big bowl (below) full of delicious fresh fruit, and cake for dessert.  Lily Grace is all ready for a luau party here at home. No, she didn't go to the ladies' meeting this time. I had my hands too full already!

I am very thankful that everything went well with our meeting and luncheon. I just wish I had taken more pictures. But you get the idea. Fifteen happy ladies coming together for fellowship and sharing joys and concerns and prayer requests, discussion of ways we can help others in our church and/or community. It is always a blessing to be together with women of faith.

Also thankful for a good meeting with a new doctor regarding a procedure I will be having in July...(a colonoscopy). This is not my first nor will it be my last I am sure as I am considered "at risk" for colon cancer due to certain conditions I have, and so it is necessary to keep a close watch on this and stay ahead of the "game".  This doctor was very reassuring and seems competent, so I was relieved and comforted. I will also be having an endoscopy at the same time.  As I said, this won't be until late July, so prayers will be appreciated at that time. Thank you.

Here's some good thoughts for today:

2 Corinthians 9:8-15
"8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.
9 As it is written:

“He has dispersed abroad,
He has given to the poor;
His righteousness endures forever.”

10 Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness,
11 while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God.
12 For the administration of this service not only supplies the needs of the saints, but also is abounding through many thanksgivings to God,
13 while, through the proof of this ministry, they glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal sharing with them and all men,
14 and by their prayer for you, who long for you because of the exceeding grace of God in you.
15 Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!"
Amen.

  1. What a cute theme for the ladies! I am helping with our breakfast this Saturday (once a month of the ladies) but we don't usually have a theme and/or decorations - which is very disappointing for this theme-loving girl:) And that looks like a lovely lunch on the water - just a perfect spot. And view:) I'm guessing you and your hubbie enjoy the coleslaw most of all - lol!!:) I always enjoy stopping by!!

    1. As per the "theme", I kind of just decided that was what it would be when I went to the Dollar Tree and saw all that stuff so inexpensively. And my co-hostess agreed and picked up the leis to finish the job! I just wish I had taken pictures of the ladies in their leis! They were all so pretty and looked so happy! It's amazing what something so simple can do to boost morale! As for the coleslaw, they bring it out first while we wait for the rest of the meal, so, of course we ate it! Didn't want it to get cold...no wait, it was cold...didn't want it to get warm! LOL. It was good. Sometimes I save mine to eat with the meal, but they took a lot longer to bring the entre' so I finished it up 'cause I was hungry! LOL.

  2. I read somewhere Monarch butterflies migrate 3,000 miles. Wow! They look so fragile.

Beautiful water views. The restaurant looks like a great place!

    1. Yes, Monarchs do migrate a very long way, so I feel honored to have this one drop by for a visit. I hope she brings more of her friends tomorrow! I think they are on their way up from wherever they've been. And yes, Corky Bells is a great place. We always love going there, especially for the view! The food is good too. So it is a win-win. Have a great day.

  4. A friend of mine wrote a children's book about monarchs. I learned a lot from her book. They are amazing creatures. Your photo of the butterfly is so nice and clear.

Lunch out is so much fun! The atmosphere is lovely. And I'm sure the company was special.

Nice time out for the ladies and how good to have fifteen prayer warriors.

    1. Thank you, Vee. Oh, I would love to know more about your friend's book. Do you have the name and author that you can share? I'd like to learn more if they are going to be showing up here! Thank you for that. Yes, lunch out with hubby was great...and so was the food. LOL. It was a win-win. And yes, our ladies are great and they truly do care about one another. We also have an online messenger prayer warrior group so that when things come up we share prayer requests with each other right away. I am very thankful for that group. And God DOES answer prayer!!! Have a blessed weekend, Vee. I always enjoy hearing from you!

    1. Thank you, Brenda. I try to keep up, but I don't always get to do it. Sometimes I get busy and can't get back to one post to answer everyone before it is time to do another post. Also I try to keep up with everyone else's posts and comment on theirs, and that takes a lot of time. But yes, this is why I blog...to make friends and encourage one another. It's a wonderful community!

  6. p S I love your pictures. For some reason and please don’t laugh. I can’t look at pictures of food for long. Besides being a vegetarian, it just bothers me. Do NOT laugh lol

    1. I am not laughing, (lol), well, maybe I'm laughing because you said not to laugh. That always makes me laugh! LOL. I am sorry the food pictures bother you. Yes, please just don't look at them. There aren't too many! (Smiles).

    1. Thank you, Terri! I do hope the butterfly comes back today and makes this her home! I am also watching for the bluebirds to make their debut today or tomorrow. I know they have to be getting close. Oh, if you ever come back here to visit, we will have to go to Corky Bells. I know you would love it. Just let me know when you are coming. Be fun if all the "gang" could meet here!

  8. I love to eat by the water and your meal....yum! That is my favorite! The flamingo party looks like it was fun and I have to ask...where did you find the flamingo cookie jar? Leah is totally enamored with flamingos and that would be a hoot to have around. The Monarch is beautiful. In thinking about it, I've realized I don't see very many butterflies around here at all these days, let alone Monarchs. We don't see many lightning bugs, either. I've heard they are disappearing all over the world due to destruction of their habitats. Sad to think of a world without them. Thanks for sharing the fun photos!

    1. Thank you, Stacy! I wish I could tell you where the flamingo cookie jar came from. It was a "gift" many years ago from a 'friend'...we used to exchange pink flamingos in all kinds of forms...mostly in each others yards. All in good fun. Then the cookie jar disappeared when we had a "white elephant gift exchange" party. Another friend got it. However, when we moved to our house in Salt Springs (the one before this one) that friend brought it to our house for our first gathering in that house. She brought it filled with homemade cookies as a house warming gift. And so now it lives here with us, but I don't think I've ever put cookies back in it! LOL. However it makes its appearance throughout the year in one spot or another. Right now it is our table centerpiece for a while. I'm glad you like it, but I sure wouldn't know where to find another. You'd probably have to come to Florida to some gift shop somewhere...Go online...maybe you can find one on Etsy or ebay! As far as Monarchs go, I've never had one in my yard before that I know of. This is my first, but it is also the first time I have put out a milkweed plant. That is what they love and where they will "plant" their eggs. I am hoping that will happen here and we will get to see them breed new butterflies here! Time will tell. Have a blessed day!

    1. Thank you Gina! I am watching the bluebird nest today and hoping this will be the day of their appearance. I hope I don't miss it! Wish I had a trail cam to put out there to watch and get pictures. I will go check out your post in a few minutes! Hope you are doing well. When is your surgery? Praying.

  10. I'm drooling over your lunch! And the view. Our women had a luncheon last week and I was unable to go. Our theme was 'mismatched" and we were to wear mismatched things like patterns that don't go together or two different shoes. Your pink flamingos are so cute! I miss not seeing flamingos (yard ones or otherwise) here in Tennessee. I get nostalgic for Florida sometimes!

  11. How I love butterflies! I really miss my mom's yard where she had a huge butterfly "bush" growing. So many wonderful memories of taking Virginia out there to watch the butterflies. And I can't believe those bluebirds are already grown enough to leave the nest. Time really does fly!
I certainly will keep you in prayer for you medical procedures in July, Pamela.
    Blessings to you!

  12. What a wonderful spot where y'all chose to eat! I can almost smell the aroma! That monach butterfly is stunning; I'm awed at the glory of God's 'art work'! Too cute with the luau-themed brunch. One of my Bible study friends is a big fan of flamingos, too. I won't call myself as big a fan, but how I loved watching them at Busch Gardens when we lived in Tampa. Wishing you a wonderful day!

Your pictures of the gardens and the birds always brighten my day. I will keep you on my prayer list. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
