I hope your anchor is grounded firm and deep in the Saviour's Love today. Amen.
Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Thankful Thursday and Hymns of Praise
Happy Thursday!! My Goodness! Here it is the last day of June already! Seems like just yesterday we turned the calendar pages over to a new month!
And just a month ago we were watching a bluebird couple nesting in the bluebird house...waiting for their eggs to hatch. Now here we are a month later, and that couple and their child have left that nest and we have another bluebird couple nesting in the other bluebird house, waiting for the eggs to hatch! Seems like we are running a regular bird baby nursery around here! First it was the Sand Hill Crane family, who are now out exploring the world together with their grown up "Colt"... and then earlier in the spring there was another bluebird family in this house below, who came back a month or so later to raise another brood in the other house (or maybe it was a different family...I can't keep track anymore), and now this couple is back in this house...so this will be the third set of bluebird nests so far this year.
I was concerned last evening that perhaps the hawks had scared the bluebirds away, because I didn't see them in or out of the house for quite a long time. But this morning they are back to their usual activities...Mr. Bluebird stays busy chasing away any other birds from any near proximity to the nest.
This was making it difficult for the other birds to get any food from the birdfeeder...
Such as the Cardinal family, of which there are also quite a few right now. I've counted at least six Cardinals of varying stages of growth flying in and out of the yard to get birdseed throughout the day.
Hello you beautiful Mr. Cardinal!
So we decided to move the birdfeeder (once again...we keep moving it to keep it away from the bluebird house), and we have been rewarded with a grateful Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal and their children coming to dine.
This reminded me of the little table grace I remember saying as a child...
"Thank You for the world so sweet,
Thank You for the food we eat,
Thank You for the birds that sing,
Thank You, God, for everything!"
Oh, and just to throw in a little more variety, this beautiful Great White Egret has been spending some time here on Still Waters Pond lately:
Perhaps she was waiting for the Sand Hill Cranes to leave so she could have the pond to herself! (Actually, there are two of them, but I can only get one picture at a time!)
So, yes, I am thankful for the variety of wildlife and beauty we see here on Still Waters Pond every day. There is always something out there to entertain us!
I am also thankful that hubby and I are finally feeling much much better, although my sinus issues are acting more like an allergy now and still giving me some sneezing fits now and then...But this morning we felt well enough to go outside and rake up some branches and leaves from under our Live Oak Trees. (That's probably where the sneezing fits came from...) Of course, we came back inside and collapsed for a while, but very thankful that our house is cool and comfortable when it is so very hot and humid outside.
I am thankful that our son came home on Saturday and gave us a full report of his new job and new life in the big city. Everything seems to be going very well for him and he seems very happy. That is a huge answer to prayer, and we do hope and pray the good times continue to happen for him. God is good.
Our other kids are doing well and keeping very busy at their business in St. Augustine, "Dixie Cottage". Right now they are having a big"4th of July" sale and it has helped stir up some much needed sales. Things were starting to get a little slow with the way the economy is and people being gone away on vacations, etc. Plus with the cost of gas and the fact that they commute quite a distance every day, their expenses are mounting. They are trying to make some big decisions as they look to the future and what it may portend. Prayers are always welcome. Anyone who owns a small business in today's economy can certainly relate.
Most of all, I am thankful for the fact that no matter what the economy or world situation may look like, we have an anchor that keeps us secure. When you are fastened to the Rock, a.k.a. Jesus Christ, you know that you will be safe in any kind of storm...whether economic, weather, health, or any kind of difficult situation. Perhaps you'd like to sing along with me on this old hymn, "We Have An Anchor".
We Have An Anchor
(Written by Priscilla Owens)
Refrain:
"We have an anchor that keeps the soul
steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!"
1 Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
when the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
will your anchor drift, or firm remain?
Refrain:
We have an anchor that keeps the soul
steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!
2 Will your anchor hold in the straits of fear,
when the breakers roar and the reef is near?
While the surges rage, and the wild winds blow,
shall the angry waves then your bark o'erflow? [Refrain]
3 Will your anchor hold in the floods of death,
when the waters cold chill your latest breath?
On the rising tide you can never fail,
while your anchor holds within the veil. [Refrain]
4 Will your eyes behold through the morning light
the city of gold and the harbour bright?
Will you anchor safe by the heavenly shore,
when life's storms are past for evermore? [Refrain]
I hope your anchor is grounded firm and deep in the Saviour's Love today. Amen.

I am so thankful to have Jesus as my anchor. I would not want to live life without Him. Love those cardinals and the bluebirds.
ReplyDeleteAmen!!! We are truly blessed to be fastened to that Rock that cannot fail!! I agree with you...could not live without Him. Amen. Have a blessed and wonderful weekend.
DeleteI've so missed reading your blogs, Pamela, and am glad to finally be back in the game. As you might imagine, however, I'm missing Virginia like crazy. I'll be recapping some of our exploits in upcoming blogs.
ReplyDeleteYour wildlife at Still Waters Pond is amazing; I love to see the variety of birds you get to enjoy. Also wishing Scott the best of luck with his new job and will pray for Benton and Rose and their business. Glad to hear, too, that John and you are on the mend. Keep it up!
Blessings!
I am so glad you are back, even though I know you are missing Virginia so much. I can't wait to hear all about your time together. Thank you for your kind words. I hope you have a blessed and peaceful Independence Day weekend.
DeleteI smile when I read about all your birds. I have given up feeding them as the resident Merlin just makes lunch out of the smaller birds. That male Cardinal almost glows. I think they are so beautiful. I am so thankful that my anchor is safe and secure in Jesus.
ReplyDeleteAmen. Oh, I am sorry about your resident "Merlin". I am hoping this hawk will leave my birdies alone. If I see him getting too close I go outside and he usually flies away. I am thankful that your anchor holds also!!! Praise God.
DeleteBeautiful pictures - thank you so much for sharing these!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, and thank you for visiting again. I'm glad you enjoyed them.
DeleteI love seeing the lilypads blooming on your pond!! Just beautiful!! The cardinals are so pretty and the bluebirds are probably happy you moved the feeder a bit!! Nice to hear that Scott is doing well and came back to give you a full report. I hope the sale will bring lots of people in at Dixie Cottage this weekend. Our gas prices have gone down this week, thank goodness. And yes, that Anchor holds firm for me!! Hugs! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri. I would welcome you to come and pick as many lilypads as you wish from the pond. LOL. They have practically taken it over completely, but yes, the lilies blooming are so pretty. I miss being out in the kayak and taking pictures of them up close. Oh, our gas prices have come down a bit too, but I wonder how long that will last. And I am glad that your "Anchor holds firm". Praise God. Have a blessed and wonderful holiday weekend. I assume you are off on Monday???
DeleteI so wish I could see your pond in person, but you keep me satisfied with all the beautiful photos. I have noticed more cardinals than usual this summer, too. A boom in the population? Egrets are so graceful and pretty. I love to watch them when we go to Chincoteague. Of course I'm glad you two continue to feel better and that all is well with your son. I will be praying for your other son and his wife and their business. These last couple of years have been such a hardship for business owners. I don't know that hymn, but love the words...grounded firm and deep.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Stacy. I would love for you to come see my pond, but you might be disappointed. It's too hot here now to enjoy it much, except from inside the house. Fall/winter/early spring are the best times. I am surprised you don't know that hymn...but perhaps your church sings more contemporary music? It's number 539 in the old "Hymns of the Christian Life"...C&MA Hymnal from 1978 revised edition. I'm sure if your church still uses hymnals at all they would have a newer version than this. But still, this was an "old favorite" in the C&MA churches we served. But it's not an A.B. Simpson hymn...now those are the interesting ones...full of good theology, but usually very difficult to sing. You should ask your Pastor about that...unless he's very young he should know the old A.B. Simpson hymns. I wonder where he went to seminary. Nyack? Just curious. There are several Alliance schools, but that was the oldest and most well known. We've been away from the C&MA for quite a few years now, so I am way behind in the latest info, but I have a lot of good memories. My being so "grounded firm and deep" happened primarily there. Thank you for writing.
DeleteMy surgery was a success, made a post. I thank the Lord for this
ReplyDeletePraise God for a successful surgery!! Just don't overdo it...and let your body get some rest from all of this. (((hugs)))
DeleteWhat a bounty of blessings! I'm so glad to hear you and John continue to feel better ... and of Scott's thoughtfulness coming back to update y'all. Yes, with circumstances being what they are, I feel bad for any small businessman and woman. All the more important we support those folks (v. the Big Woke Establishment) whenever possible. Have a beautiful day!
ReplyDeleteThank you for supporting small businesses. Our country is made up of them. We need to stick together and encourage one another. I hope you and Tom have a blessed and peaceful weekend. I hope he's doing better.
DeleteSo beautiful. Yes to the Anchor of my soul. Regine

Praise God for that Anchor! Where would we be without Him?
DeletePam: I love the pictures of the cardinals. The cardinal is our state bird in Indiana. Yes, gas prices do cause a "sticker shock" when people fill their tanks. All I know is that it seems to cost more all the time. but for some reason, the price seemed to go down for the holiday.(This is not the normal way things work up here.) Are you familiar with the hymn, "My Anchor Holds"? It came to me when I read the lyrics to the hymn you posted. We don't have plans for the weekend. Roger is going camping. Church picnic is Sunday, uncertain if I am going to go, Congestion and coughing most of the time. Peace and blessings to you.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am familiar with "My Anchor Holds". Another old favorite hymn of faith. And yes, the gas prices went down a bit here this week too. I don't expect it will last long, however. I am sorry you are still dealing with congestion and coughing. Is that still from the covid? I do hope you will feel better soon. I'm glad you enjoyed the Cardinals. They are a favorite of mine as well. I'm glad they decided to stick around even though the Bluebirds keep trying to drive them away. It makes for some colorful displays in the yard! LOL. Have a blessed and peaceful weekend.
DeleteHello Pam. I'm coming to you from Mary's blog, "Visits with Mary". I so enjoyed reading your post today. "We have an Anchor" is a song I remember especially from my childhood. I don't hear it much anymore unless I'm playing hymns on Pandora. Thank you for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about your bird visitors and especially the gorgeous cardinals. From other comments it seems you've been ill and I'm thankful to the Lord for healing you and your husband.
I look forward to getting to know you better as I follow your posts.
Blessings,
Betsy
Good Morning, Betsy! I am so happy you came over to visit with me from our friend Mary's blog! Any friend of Mary's is a friend to me! I look forward to getting better acquainted as the days go by. I just went over and visited your blog to see who you are, and you look like a fun person to know! I hope you have a blessed and wonderful Independence Day weekend. I read where you will be having some special company coming for the holiday, so I hope you have a great time!! Please do come again!
DeleteLots if good news in this post, Pam, especially that you and John are feeling better. I miss seeing bird life at feeders as we had several in VA. The cardinals were always colorful visitors. We never had bluebirds and so nice you have a second family. Glad for the update on Scott and hope that Benton and Rose have a successful sale weekend. Hope your weekend in a good one as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Beatrice! Yes, we are finally feeling back to normal pretty much, and I am so thankful. I am looking forward to my sister and her hubby coming on Monday to celebrate the 4th with us, so I need to get back up to speed around here and get some things done before they come! And thank you for the words of encouragement for our "kids". Scott will also come home for the 4th, and Benton will be here too, but Rose has to work at her other job at Home Depot on Monday. She and we are bummed that she can't be with us, but she said the compensation was "holiday pay", so that is a blessing. Their sale has gone well, but overall the business has been going through some difficult times...but there may be some positive "moves" in the future. Stay tuned. Have a blessed and wonderful holiday weekend.
DeleteYour pictures of the cardinal are stunning, so very good. I really like them.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that Scott is doing so well -- what good news that is, as well as an answer to prayer. And Benton and Rose, may they clearly understand the Lord's will for them as they navigate the issues.
So glad you and John are feeling better. Yes, Air Conditioning is wonderful!!!!
As for my anchor, Jesus, yes, He's definitely got me through [everything] and I am so very very grateful.
Happy 4th of July weekend!
Thank you, Barbara. Where would we be without our "Anchor", Jesus Christ?. Praise the Lord, He is always there for us. I hope you and Gary have a blessed and beautiful holiday weekend.
DeleteI too have allergy issues when I'm outdoors. Those cloth Covid masks they now say are "no good" are *great* for filtering out pollen and I can work for hours now without sneezing. Maybe this would help you?
ReplyDeleteI sometimes use a mask if I am mowing or digging in or around the dirt or leaves, especially when it is so dry. However, I prefer the disposable type filtered masks to the cloth ones for that purpose. Since I've had so much neck/shoulder issues, I am not doing as much yard work as I used to. My body just can't seem to handle much physical labor anymore. So I just have to work in spurts as I feel up to it. Hope you have a blessed weekend.
DeleteSo happy to hear that your family is healthy and doing well. We are hoping to get over to Dixie cottage after we get settled. Our moving co. Will be delivering stored items on thursday. Blessings to all
ReplyDeleteOh how exciting that you are finally going to be getting moved into your home. I know you must be getting excited! Please send me an email when you can as I need to share something with you. Have a blessed holiday weekend.
