Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Saturday Wanderings
Good Saturday morning! I hope this day finds you happily enjoying a fall weekend in mid-October! We are still waiting for some real fall weather here in Florida. It may still be a while, but still we can get in the mood for it by getting outside and enjoying the less-humid days and bight sunshine and nice breezes, even if it is still in the low to mid 80's. It's still an improvement over summer, so I'm not complaining.
So I thought I'd take you along on a little walk with me to see what we can see. And wouldn't you know there would be this strange owl sitting there in the woods as we walked by....
Or maybe it is a cat watching for birds? Well, it sure got my attention, whatever it was...
But then we saw this mysterious long arm reaching up into the trees, making a loud whirring sound...and, oh no! It had a whirling saw blade for a hand! Yikes! We'd better get out of here! The aliens have landed and they are cutting down everything in their path!!
He better watch out for that power line right above him...that could be disastrous!
Oh, look, there's a cab of some kind, with a human being inside...well, what do you know? It's the tree service people trimming back the tree limbs from the power lines! Whew! That was a close one!
And now I know what our mysterious owl/cat is....a trimmed tree trunk!
Did you already figure that out? Well, maybe I had you going there for a minute or two. LOL.
Now that the excitement is over, let's continue our walk, okay?
Oh, watch out!!! If you don't watch where you are going, you may run into one of these!
Looks like something already did try to fly through it!!
Glad I saw it before I got this tangled up in my hair!!
When you're walking in the woods on a dewy morning, everything just takes on an ethereal, fairy like appearance. I love walking through what I call "God's Garden"...the wildflowers He has planted alongside our roads and in the woods...they didn't need any man's help to grow and be beautiful...God provided all they needed, and we are just supposed to enjoy!
When I stepped into the woods and saw this carpet of yellow wild daisies (not their real name, but you know what I mean) scattered out before me...I was in awe.
The little light greenish spongy stuff is called "deer moss". It is a type of lichen that grows all over our sandy forest floors, and I assume the deer must like it, or why else was it called deer moss? Maybe someone knows...God knows...but anyway...this just looks to me like God scattered His flower seeds randomly all over the forest, just for us to enjoy!!
Oh, but be careful! Sometimes there may be thorns among the beauty...keep your eyes open at all times!
A brush against one of these lovely cactus plants could bring you to your knees in pain!
But you should see how lovely the cactus flower is in the spring. I'll save that for spring. This is fall.
Stick to the script, Pam.
I wanted to just gather up this lovely bouquet and take it home with me, but I decided to leave it here for the deer, squirrels, raccoon, bugs, bees, and birds to enjoy. After all, this is their woods, their garden, and just maybe God planted all these flowers for them to enjoy too!
So I will leave the woods for a while and move on to something else.... But I hope you enjoyed this walk in the woods with me this morning.
Let's see, what else is going on in "my neck of the woods"?
Oh hello! This is Scott, our #3 son, who lives here at home, but who also works almost every single day at a job 50 miles away. Yes, as you can see by his t-shirt, he's Mom's favorite. But our other son who lives nearby also has a t-shirt like that and so does Lily Grace, so no worries...we really don't play favorites here. We just have a lot of fun pretending.
Anyway, when he's not commuting to and from work and when he has some spare time, he spends most of it working on this car, his "baby", his 1983 1991 Camaro Z28. (I stand corrected by the expert! He USED to have 1983 or 84, but it looked a lot like this so what do I know? LOL) This is probably his 4th or 5th Camaro that he has had in his life, I'm not sure. I lost count, but he could sure tell you every detail. He tried Mustangs for a little while, but came back to Camaro...his pride and joy. Anyway, he spends a lot of time outside working on this car. Yes, it does run, and yes, he sometimes drives it to work, but he also has that Chevy truck back there that he drives in case the Camaro needs more work... (this is why he's not married and still living at home, btw. LOL. He can't afford a wife and a Camaro project car...)
Anyway, he was getting tired of always working in the hot sun and also not having his car sheltered from the elements. So he ordered this canopy carport and it arrived yesterday. I should have taken pictures of him (and his Dad and I) trying to put this thing up. But I will leave that scenario to your imagination. It wasn't easy. No matter what these advertisements tell you, it wasn't easy. Trust me.
But it is up. There are sides, but for now he left them off. He was out there working on this thing till after dark. But he got it done, and now he's happy, and I'm relieved. No fingers, arms, or heads were broken in the construction of this carport. And thankfully it is behind the shed so it doesn't show up from the street. And actually it doesn't look all that bad anyway. And now he has a shady place to work. So all's well that ends well. (I just pray a hurricane doesn't come along to blow it away.)
Well, I've finished my cup of tea
Put the flag out on the front porch and checked to see if there was a sunrise...well, it's rising!
Praise God!
Took a look at my potted mums on the front porch to see if they need watering again...
And now I will close this post with a picture of the sunset from last night on Still Waters Pond:
I hope you are having a pleasant start to your Saturday morning.
I'm off to go have devotions with my hubby, then eat something for breakfast, and then we will decide what's next for the day! No special plans.
What about you?
"This is the day the Lord has made.
We will rejoice and be glad in it"

Lol at your thought about Scott (and not being married, grin). Thanks Pamela, I needed that, smiles. Nothing going on here, I have the day off, and its pouring rain. No complaints, I will make cupcakes later today.
ReplyDeleteI do hope you have a beautiful day, my friend.
Oh, cupcakes? What kind? Can I have one? Hope you are enjoying your rainy afternoon. It's sunny, well partly cloudy here, but no rain in sight that I can see at the moment. But this is Florida, and that could change in a moment. Glad you have the day off to enjoy with your family. That
Deletes the best part of all. Still, a cupcake would be nice with my tea...
God shows His majesty, grace and power in His creation so we are without excuse in believing in Him.
ReplyDelete"For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." Romans 1:20 NIV
Really enjoyed your photos. And your son has a cool car. He keeps it very tidy. Well done.
Blessings to you all. xx
Amen to Romans 1:20...yes, we have NO excuse...no one does anywhere...God has revealed Himself to us through all of His creation. Amen and Amen. But some people are just SO blind to the truth. Still...no excuse! Thank you for your kind words. Scott loves his car. I said that's my grandchild...since I won't be getting the other kind any time soon that I know of. LOL. Have a blessed and beautiful day in your neck of the woods, which look a lot like mine!
DeleteIt's so nice to be able to walk outside comfortably again. You always see things that are fun and interesting.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Vee. Yes, it is very pleasant right now. And it will be for most of the rest of the year, except for a frosty morning now and then, but still, better than what you will be having later on...unless you really enjoy winter. I did enjoy winter walks, as long as I was properly dressed for the occasion! And there is always something fun and interesting to see up in YOUR neck of the woods too. Do you ever get to see Moose? That was our favorite thing to go looking for when we lived up in NH and Maine. We had some interesting experiences... Have a fun weekend.
DeleteWhat beautiful wildflowers. And among thorns, too! Everything plays its role as God ordains! I love the dew making it all look so magical, too. Part of the Mass includes the words "like the dewfall" and that always gives me a good kind of chill and such happiness! I am glad Scott got the carport up! That took a lot of work for you guys! One of my older brothers always had a "muscle car" he drove. I think he favored something called a Charger, eventually. They all looked the same to me, flat and speedy looking, with things on the hood that stuck up. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, the thorns do have a purpose, don't they? Without the thorns would we have the whole story of what Christ did for us? Maybe not. I am glad you enjoy the dewfall as well. It is such a beautiful, yes, magical time of day. I love to get out and walk before the sun dries it all away for another day. Oh yes, boys and their "muscle cars"...big boys toys I call them. Some boys just never grow up...but they retain that exuberance for life that is fun to see, so I am thankful for that gift. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend as well. Still praying for your job situation...any news? (((hugs)))
Delete'Tis the season for autumn craft shows. I went to one this morning. It was very good.
ReplyDeleteOh, I was kind of wishing I could go to a autumn craft show today. It would have been a nice day for it. But I really don't have the stamina for it right now. I am glad you got to go and I hope you found some fun things to look at. Was it nearby? Thank you for visiting... (((hugs))) to you my friend.
DeleteBeautiful photos. Thanks for sharing. Here in Northern California, we seem to be going back and forth. 85 today and yesterday but we do have deciduous trees that are starting to color up, and with the sun at a lower position, it feels like fall. The mornings and evenings are much cooler than the summer.
ReplyDeleteI love Fall.
Oh, for some reason I pictured you in southern California! Not sure why. Your fall season sounds a lot like ours...can't quite make up its mind just yet. But yes, our evenings are so much nicer now. And I love fall too. Bring it on!! Thank you for "walking with me".
DeleteI loved taking that Saturday morning stroll with you today, Pamela. God's beauty is truly all around us, and we need to enjoy it daily. And good for you all getting the carport up! I'm sure Scott will be so happy having his vehicles tucked under some shade. I had no idea he was such a car enthusiast. :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of the weekend!
Oh yes, car enthusiast he is. That's his "wife, child, and home"...and why he still lives at home without wife, child or home of his own. But it's a clean hobby (except for the grease) and it keeps him home at nights. I can't complain. He's happy. That's all I can ask for. God knows best. I hope you are having a pleasant autumn weekend.
DeleteFun post and great photos, Pam!
ReplyDeleteMy Saturday? I went to a ladies' Bible study this morning and so enjoyed it. We meet once a month. Since returning, I've folded laundry, had lunch, and done some blogging, among other things. Now I'm hoping to do some sewing and perhaps bake some apple bread before starting supper.
Oh, that sounds good...baked apple bread! Not sure I have a recipe for that. Have you shared it before? Sure sounds like something I would love. Glad you had a good start to your day with the Ladies' Bible Study. It's always so good to get together with our sisters in Christ and study His Word together...and pray for one another and generally do what sisters do...care for one another. Wonderful! Thank you for taking time to come and visit here as well. I love to hear from you! I can almost smell that apple bread baking...
DeleteDid you notice the photo of the web looks like it is moving? Some kind of optical illusion, I guess!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, well, no, not exactly...but it was blowing in the breeze when I took the picture, so maybe you can visualize that. You always see the beauty in everything... Thank you for visiting. Always a pleasure!
DeleteAw, thanks for taking us along on your stroll! I love to watch the tree trimmers at work, but have never seen anything like that long arm. I'd love to play with it sometime, but (*sigh*) won't be holding my breath.
ReplyDeleteLOVE Scott's new canopy. Kudos to y'all for erecting it without bodily injury! I miss having a garage something fierce -- our poor cars get so filthy from the surrounding black walnut trees' muck. Because how our drive is positioned, right now there's no viable alternative.
Hello Myra! I'm glad you enjoyed the "stroll" through the woods. It was refreshing! You are like me, I would love to try and play with the tree trimmer or any big piece of equipment, as long as I was in no danger of destroying something. I did drive a huge huge tractor one time up in Ohio, but the owner was right there with me just in case I hit the wrong button or gear. It was exhilarating! yes, we could use a garage here too, although, when we DID have a garage our car was never in it. It was our storage room/workshop, etc. Now we do have a nice shed for all of that stuff, but no garage. Thankfully we live in a location where this canopy is not off limits, and it is behind the shed so it doesn't look bad from the road, and Scott is happy as a clam, so it's a win-win. Oh, I hear you about the black walnut trees...and I suppose you'd never consider cutting them down? I know I couldn't, but sometimes it makes more sense...but who said anything about being sensible? LOL. Have a blessed day my friend.
DeleteI so enjoyed my visit here today, Pam! Your photos are always lovely and that blanket of daisies on the ground is so pretty. Daisies are my favorite flower - I would have picked some! The carport looks perfect for Scott's vehicles! Have a blessed Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to have picked some, but they tend to have a lot of bugs on them and I decided I'd rather leave the bugs in the woods than bring them home. LOL. But I do love a bouquet of wildflowers in a mason jar or a country pitcher of some kind. If I were planning dinner party I might be tempted to go get them and just spray them for bugs before bringing them inside. Anyway...they look pretty in the woods where God planted them, so I will let them be. I hope you have a blessed and wonderful Sunday too. I gotta get ready here soon...
DeleteHi Pam, I enjoyed your pictures! That is a lovely sunset. I will keep you in prayer over your surgery. Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan. I appreciate the prayers. My surgery is Oct. 25. Trying to prepare myself and the house for the fact that I probably won't feel like doing much for a while afterwards...but then again, I don't feel like doing much now either...so if it gets done, it gets done. Prayers are greatly appreciated. Have a blessed Sunday too.
DeleteBeautiful pictures. We're still waiting for real fall weather in New York City and it's mid-October. We did have a heavy shower earlier tonight and it may have broken the summer weather.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning, Buttercup! (I love your name!) Welcome to Florida...where we are still waiting for fall weather as well. I am told that it is coming...at least it will be cooler in the mornings this week and not too hot in the daytime...so we shall see. We had a shower late last night ushering in the "cold front" I guess! I haven't been outside yet to see what it feels like, but will be going out to Sunday School and church soon so I will find out then. I do hope summer is over! Thank you SO much for visiting. I just checked out your blog and look forward to getting better acquainted in the future!! Welcome!
DeleteI love seeing your beautiful mums and flowers. We are going to look for some of those yellow daisies tomorrow. We've seen a few but remember a bigger field of them West of here. Love seeing that neat car and your son! Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh, aren't the wildflowers just glorious this time of year? I love that they put on this last showy display before the drabness of the winter months sets in. And I hear that we have a "cold front" coming...may already be here judging by the showers last night. I haven't been outside yet, but I hope it is truly cooler! Hope you have a blessed and wonderful Sunday!!
DeleteI very much enjoyed my walk with you. God sure planted a lovely display for our enjoyment. I’ve been at church all day for a Leaders Retreat. They use the term leader loosely as I am only in a committee.
ReplyDeleteOh, how wonderful! A "Leaders' Retreat!" Hey, committee members are leaders too. You are doing something to help make other things happen, and that takes leadership. So glad you are active in your church. It does make such a difference in life, doesn't it? Well, we know WHO it is that makes the difference...and we are blessed to be a part of His big family! Have a blessed Sunday!
DeleteHi there my sweet friend, loved going on this walk about with you. Wow, those yellow daisy flowers are so so beautiful! They are WILD?! I would've been tempted to bring a big bouquet of them home too. Loved your previous two posts too! I do love a fireplace, and love our little electric one we got last Christmas, a piece of it stopped and Mr. Front Porch got it replaced and up and working again for WHEN THE FIRST COLD SNAP arrives.....whenever that will be! LOL It was so hot here today and we did go out for a walk but sweated so much, sigh! Our air is still on and probably will be for awhile. I enjoyed seeing the vintage mugs that your Mom used for the hot chocolate, those mugs are nice, and look so sturdy--I'm glad you and your sister got them. The new carport actually looks nice!--glad he got somewhere to help protect and work on his car. I love mustangs, my first car was a red mustang. Hope y 'all have a very very nice Sunday! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI can somehow just imagine you in a red mustang! LOL. That sounds like you! And oh, I heard raindrops last night on the roof and I understand that means we are having a bit of a cold snap settling in...I DO hope so! I am SO ready for it to feel like fall, aren't you? Thank you for visiting with me and taking this walk in the woods with me. I haven't been able to take Lily along with me as much anymore because of my right arm pain, so she's been missing out on the fun. Hopefully after my surgery we will get back into a routine of adventures again. I hope you have a happy Sunday!
DeletePS...yes I DO LOVE candy corn!
ReplyDeleteHa Ha!! Come on down and have some with me. We can add peanuts to make it even better!
DeleteThe flowers and the deer moss are so pretty. God does amazing stuff in nature.
ReplyDeleteYes, He surely does!! And we are blessed who are able to see it and appreciate it and give God the glory!! Amen!
DeleteThank you for another glimpse into your life. All of life is to be celebrated. God's creation is so very stunning and serves a purpose. I spent a good chunk of Saturday (and for several days prior preparing for the sermon I gave on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteLove and blessings!
Pam: I write this on Tuesday, the 19th. We had our furnace die on us last week. They came this morning and installed a new one for us. Amazingly, we had very few cold nights . The ones we had were Friday and Saturday nights. We closed off the computer room because it is the coldest room in the house.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I love the canopy carport. Some people up here have them. Some are aluminum.
