Tuesday 4: Blogging

Tuesday 4

Blogging

Thank you to our friend Annie from Cottage by the Sea for putting this together for us each week, in memory of our friend Toni Taddeo.

Today's questions are about blogging!

This is where I sit to write to you each day, my "Room With a View". This is how it looks right now, early morning light...Still Waters Pond is just becoming visible as the sun rises behind us in the east.

1. How often do you blog? What helps you blog.. what hinders you?
I try to blog at least 3 or 4 times a week, if not every day.  Some weeks are too busy and I just don't have the time to put it all together, but then I feel like I've missed out on the daily communication between friends, and so I try to jump back in and stay "in the game" so I don't miss out on visits with special people that I've met here through blogging over the past 10 or more years.

What helps me blog? Wanting to chronicle daily living, as well as share things that I find helpful to me and I hope may be of some help to others...sharing God's Word with you as He blesses my life through the reading of the scriptures...and so often it seems that what He is sharing with me seems to bless others as well...like it was meant for YOU as much as it was meant for me!

What hinders me?  Well, daily living...getting too busy to keep up with it...LIFE. I try to keep a balance between what I do here and what I am doing in my home and with family. I don't ever want this to become more important than being with the ones who are truly right here in my home/family/church...and yet, I have found that I feel just as connected to many of you in "blogland" as I do to those here in my "real world".  We have formed bonds and connections that are real and true and good...we care about each other and pray for one another and look forward to daily conversations...so I try to keep up the best I can.

2. What benefits do you get from blogging? Are there any?
1.  Making new friends!
2. Learning from my new friends...about life, cooking, cleaning, hobbies, fun ideas, travel, seeing how people live in different parts of the country/world
3.  Keeping my own mind sharp as I try to write and think of things to say and to say them in a way that is clear and concise and hopefully interesting and somewhat entertaining.
4.  Again, this is a journal of sorts of my own life, and oftentimes the things I am writing about are to chronicle events or memories for future generations, or just for me to be able to go back remember. I don't know that my family will ever read any of this after I'm gone, but it's there if they want it.  They can't say I never shared any memories with them. This is how I am attempting to do it since we all stay too busy to just sit down and talk about "the good old days".

3. Have you ever changed your blog theme?
Click HERE for a link to when it all began.  I have kept this same title and theme ever since I started it.  I have added other side blogs along the way, like my current one, The Adventures of Lily Grace, and a previous one that is no longer active but still available to read, Ben's Country Woodshop, which was a blog about my son's woodworking business when he first got started, but now he is busy with a much bigger business and his own furniture and coastal decor store with his lovely wife Rose, Dixie Cottage.  So no time for keeping up with that blog.

Even though the idea of "Closed Doors, Open Windows", doesn't always come out in every blog post, the underlying theme is still there as we walk through this journey called "life".  When God closes one door, He always opens another...or a "window" into a new world, a new perspective, a new dream, a better understanding of the bigger picture of the life that God can see that we cannot quite fathom yet. But someday it will all make sense to us as we walk by faith and put our trust in the One Who loves us so much that He was willing to sacrifice His own life so that we could one day enter heaven and live with Him eternally...That's really what this blog is all about.

4. Where do you get your ideas for blog posts?

From Nature, Sunrises, Sunsets, Family, Holidays, God's Word the Bible, Celebrations, World Events, whatever my camera focuses on...I do love to include pictures in my posts, as you all are well aware.  I always say "A picture is worth a thousand words", and then I continue to write about a 1000 words to go along with the picture...so you get a real bargain...two for the price of one!  And sometimes, like today, I get my ideas from YOU, from yours posts and memes and ideas you share may spark a memory or an idea in my little head and I start writing.  I am always happy for new ideas and look forward to the things you share because I learn so many wonderful things from each of you.

Well, I've rambled on long enough for this post. I hope you are all thinking and writing and sharing your ideas with us.  And thank you, Annie, for keeping this going in Toni's memory. I know she would be so pleased to see us here each week!!

Here's some "food for thought" as we close out today...Candy Corn!! Hey or Nay? Have you tried it with peanuts? It tastes like a PayDay Candy Bar!

Okay, Bye for now! Keep Writing!

I was extra pleased when I discovered you were from Ohio...a state that I loved living in and wouldn't mind living there again. Thank you for your kind words. I look forward to reading your posts as well, and am happy you will soon join the ranks of us "retired folks". Hope you're day is filled with joy and blessings.

  3. Aw, you've done it again ... put a big smile on my face. I'm always so happy to see your face in my reader. (Oh, and before I go any further -- apologies for not responding to last evening's post. I loved it, but was exhausted and fell asleep too early.)

Anyway! The friendships I've been blessed to develop here in Blogland are the best gifts, ever. I know what you mean about learning from others' talents, experiences. Like my late blog friend Rick wrote, "Every day's a school day."

Candy corn? My teeth say, 'no thank you very much ... pass the Doritos.' LOL.
    Have a blessed day!

    1. I see that smile! It's a beauty!! And the feeling is mutual my dear...and no apologies necessary...I haven't had time to even check to see if you responded. Now I'm curious as to what I even said, and I'll have to go back and see. short term memory is real thing.. And yes, I agree with your friend Rick, "every day's a school day". When we stop learning, we are probably dead. So I like to keep learning about new things and meeting new people! Keeps life interesting. And the candy corn works better with peanuts...try it...it's very healthy that way!! LOL. Doritos. LOL. Funny.

  5. Your blog is a beacon of thoughtfulness, interesting remarks, and uplifting ideas. It is a TREASURE for your family, and for those of us lucky enough to read it. I should say "blogs," not "blog," because I just love Lily Grace's blog, too! And your posts often feature your droll wit. I will chuckle or laugh out loud at some of the things you say! Candy corn: YES to your idea of mixing it with peanuts, it is fantastic that way!

    1. I'm so glad we became friends, Holly! You are a breath of fresh air! And Lily Grace loves you too. She's been kind of busy playing with her friends lately, and we just haven't sat down to write a post lately. I must get her back to "work" and not so much play! LOL. I am happy that you "get" my droll wit. That's a good term for me...a "droll wit". I must share that with my hubby. It's better than a "nit-wit", which I think many who know me personally would say is an apt description as well. LOL. And yes, the peanuts with candy corn makes it healthy, don't you agree? Have a blessed day. I'm still praying for your job situation. God knows when and where! Until then, enjoy your "free time". Blessings in disguise!

  6. This was an excellent post!
Candy corn by itself is a big no for me, but add some peanuts and it is a game changer. Then to further amp it up throw in some halloween colored m&m's.

    1. Thank you, Anne! So glad you joined the "party"! And yes, I think adding peanuts to candy corn makes it "healthy". LOL. Not so much the M&M's, but then again...it's only once a year, right? LOL. Hope you have a blessed and wonderful week. Thank you for popping in.

  7. Making new friends, sharing God's Holy Word and getting my sometimes jumbled up thoughts down on "paper" has been my goal. Sometimes I feel like if I don't "say" something I'm gonna burst. *lol* Must be a girl thing. Also, I just wanna help others fine The Light of Life, Jesus Christ. I think all my other blogging buddies feel the same way. I know you do.
I really enjoyed your answers. And, speaking of life, I've been too busy again this week, thus, no post yet.
    Love & Blessings. xx

  11. Yes, I hate missing out on daily conversations. I like your list of benefits you get from blogging. I like candy corn but not have tried them with peanuts.

  12. As I mentioned to Terri, I think making so many amazing friends through blogging is what I treasure most about keeping one going. As you know, Pamela, I get my ideas in pretty much the same way you do - nature and all of life's little comings and goings, and there is always a lesson from God in these things, if and when we take the time to look for them.
I'm so grateful that we are blogging buddies!
    Blessings!

  18. Great answers. I really related to the answer about "blogland" friends being such real friends. I never sought that but it has been such an unexpected benefit of blogging and honestly has kept me blogging far longer.

  19. Enjoyed reading this today Pam. I spied that candy corn too! Just bought me a little pack the other day. Might have to get me a tub of it now! LOL! I only blog once a week and mercy that is about all I can do at the time. Between working pt, home, family and church and honestly, having a life, I have to keep my blogging at bay. But who knows, maybe one day I will blog a little more. My blogging as you know it mostly my journal of my family life. What more precious! And blogging has allowed me to make some of the sweetest friends and sisters in Christ, such as you dear lady. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  20. Pam: I love Candy Corn. I got onto it because I don't do chocolate (Caffeine sensitivity) I haven't tried it with peanuts, but you have given me an idea for when I host our women's circle at church. That is in early November. I love your answers to why you blog. I appreciate your friendship very much. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
