Friday Foto Friends ~ October Beauty

Happy Friday Foto Friends Day!  We've come through a whole first week of October, and there's been some beautiful things to see all around. Were you watching?

Since I am actually writing this on Thursday evening, I am limited to what I've seen up until now.
If something else pops up tomorrow morning I may have to amend this post, or just start a new one. We shall see what develops.
Meanwhile, this was our sunrise Thursday morning:

It was a foggy start to the day, and the sun was trying hard to break through the fog. I think it was still a beautiful morning...don't you?

Then I noticed the most wonderful thing.  Another rose blooming in the Memorial Garden.

The thing that made this rose so special was that yesterday (Wed, Oct. 6th) was our grandson Noah's 22nd birthday.  This rose actually started to open yesterday, but I didn't get outside to get a good look at it.  This morning it really caught my eye, and I realized that it was blooming especially for Noah's birthday.  You see, Noah is Matthew's son.

I sent a text to Noah this morning with these pictures. I know he was probably working, so he hasn't responded yet, but I hope he appreciates the idea that a rose is blooming in his Daddy's Memorial Garden especially for his birthday week. I explained to him that this rosebush really only blooms for special occasions, and it has done so consistently even though it was transplanted from one house to another two years ago.

Of course I cut it and brought it inside so we can enjoy it all week. They last much longer that way, and I snip a little more off the stem each day to keep it fresh longer.

Happy Birthday, Noah!!   Oh, I neglected to tell you that we had a wonderful conversation with Noah on his birthday.  And he was so sweet to send me a video of the beautiful fall foliage along the roads as he traveled through Maine to the Fryeburg Fair.  He is spending the week there, working at the "blooming onion" booth...don't ask me how or why...but he seemed happy to have that to do. Work has been hard to find up there during the pandemic and he had to kind of set his plans aside for a while, but hopefully he will get back on the right road soon.  Meanwhile, he's having a good time and he's a great young man. I wish we were there at the Fair and could have one of his "blooming onions"! We used to always take him to the Fryeburg Fair for his birthday when we were able to go up there to visit each year. So that is a very special memory for us.

Moving right along...one afternoon I was sitting out in the Secret Memorial Garden, enjoying a nice autumn breeze and the late afternoon sunshine on Still Waters Pond.
I spied something way out there on the island that landed on top of those wild tall weeds...I forget the name of them...I know Annie from Cottage by the Sea knows...help?

Anyway, I zoomed in on it, and it was a dragonfly!! The sun is just glowing all around and through these so that they light up like torches!

I had a little visitor while I was sitting on the swing:

He said to tell you hello!

His lazy cousin was taking a rest in the loft of the bluebird house, which he has taken up for his own residence.  I told him he'd better move out before the bluebirds return in the spring, or he might find himself invited to be the main course at dinner! LOL.

I hesitate to tell you that I saw this huge bubble in one of the bird baths this morning. Yes, the bird bath needs cleaning, but it is under the holly tree and berries keep dropping in there and it's been raining and hot, and well, I can't scrub anything with this bad arm...so anyway, something was making a huge bubble that I thought was more interesting than whether or not my birdbath is clean or not:

If you look closely, you can see my reflection upside down taking this picture:

I think this bubble is very noteworthy, don't you?

One bright sunny morning we took a walk at our usual walking place, and these sweet little purple wildflowers were blooming everywhere:

And they were loaded with these bumblebees everywhere:

I had to be careful not to get stung while trying to take their picture!

I also spied this beautiful bright orange butterfly...he makes a lovely contrast to that dead looking wood:

And there are many of these bright yellow flowers blooming in clusters too. But you see why I don't pick them to bring them home in a bouquet? They always have some kind of bugs on them:

But they are so bright and cheery in the autumn morning sun...

Now, can you see the two Buckeye Butterflies on this leaf below?:

I think they were being quite "chummy"...

The certainly are well camouflaged...and again, very autumnal in appearance.

Here's a few more pretty purple wildflowers:

And here we are back home again...and look who found a new friend?

Yes, that is Lily Grace with a big old scarecrow! She said she wanted to name him "Joe"
So please welcome Joe the Scarecrow!

Well, it is bedtime and I need to get a move on.

Oh...thank you so much for your continued prayers for our niece Shannon. I found out tonight that she has already gone back to school, albeit, in a wheelchair, but she is able to get around to her classes and is trying to keep up with everything. Although her father said she is very very sore and tired when she gets home. Your prayers are still very much appreciated. I hope she isn't over-doing it. But then again, she is 17 and strong and healthy.  And our prayers are being answered.
So why should we be surprised?  God said Ask, Seek, and Knock...

Matthew 7:7-8
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened."

Thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayers on behalf of Shannon.  We give You praise for the healing we see taking place in her body.  We continue to pray for her soul and spirit to be turned toward You, so that she will know it is YOU who is healing her and who has a plan and purpose for her life. Amen.

Have a blessed and wonderful weekend, friends!!

  1. Your niece is an amazing young woman. Her grit and determination is amazing. Going back to school is the evidence. Praying for her ongoing healing. God has His hand on her.

You certainly have been observant right there in your own yard. That way, you enjoy many more things than the average person. The blooming rose is a lovely God breeze coming your way to let you know that everything is all right. Hope Noah gets in touch. How's the Fryeburg Fair going?

    1. thank you so much, Vee. Your insights are very keen and right on. I believe you are correct regarding Shannon. She is very determined. And yes, I do believe God has His hand on her. I pray for her to someday realize just how much He loves her. That is what is lacking in this beautiful young woman. But I believe in time she will recognize that "He was there all the time..." We did have a wonderful conversation with Noah on his birthday, but that was before I found the rose. I do hope he'll respond to my message, but then again...he's busy and 22. And he is at the Fryeburg Fair this week...making "blooming onions". I'm not sure how or why he got that particular job, but I guess he needed something to do. The pandemic kind of set aside his plans for a while, and he is still searching for what it is that he is supposed to be doing with his life. He also needs our prayers. He is a good young man with a wonderful mind and heart. I pray God will help him find his way as well. Thank you for asking...and if you can get over to the fair, go get a blooming onion and meet Noah!! I think the fair will be over this weekend, so you better hurry! Wish I were there. Have a blessed and wonderful weekend.

  2. Oh I do think the bubble pictures are amazing. The reflection of you too. All of the pictures are so pretty. You neck of the woods has the most amazing wildflowers in my humble opinion. I love the rose and I truly believe our Heavenly Father works those wonders for our good. Prayers for you and Shannon.

    1. Thank you, Sandy. I was amazed at the size of the bubble, over 1 inch in diameter, and probably more than 1/2 " high! And it stayed there for the longest time. Something was definitely giving off some kind of "air" under there. Weren't you a science teacher? Maybe you can explain... And yes, I love to see the wildflowers in every season. It always amazes me when they pop up out of nothing but weeds along the road, and suddenly these beautiful flowers appear! Yes, I do believe our Heavenly Father works all those kinds of wonders, including the rose that keeps blooming for special days, for our good. Thank you for your prayers as well. That means a lot. Have a blessed weekend.

  3. I so loved all of your photos, Pamela - what a great way to start my morning! And isn't it wonderful that the special rose bush produced another bloom in honor of Noah's birthday? Such a remarkable plant! Yes, prayers continued for Shannon - she is one determined young lady!

  4. At first I thought the purple wildflower was False Foxglove but it looks somewhat different. We have a lot of False Foxglove here in the Fall.
Enjoyed your photos. Y'all live in such a lovely area.
    Blessings. xx

    1. I gave up trying to identify all the different wildflowers we have. I just enjoy them and thank God for them, because I didn't have to do a thing to make them grow. He did it all by himself without any help from me or any other human! Thank you for your kind words. It is pretty around here...you just have to know where to look!! I love to see your pictures too. I am heading over to your post next! I've missed you!

  5. Another bloom in honor of Noah's birthday? Goosebumps! Or, as someone calls them, "Godbumps." Nope, I'd never in a million years believe that was coincidental. I love all of these images, but that bubble -- and your reflection? Wow.
Prayers continuing for Shannon, and 'hi!' to Lily Grace!

  6. Such beautiful nature pictures. I love everyone of them. For some reason, the lizard ones make me happy. I guess because he looks so happy to be there.

Beautiful rose. God is so good to allow that rose to bloom for special times.

    Have a blessed weekend Pam!

  7. The news about Shannon is remarkable. The Lord has surely been answering our petitions on her behalf. Young people can be sooo resilient!

The photo of the fog over your pond is my favorite although you've got some wonderful photos here. I kinda think that, generally speaking, bugs like yellow flowers the best.

Glad Lily found a new friend and gave him a name. They make for a cheery pair.

Yes, leave the cleaning of the bird bath until your physical woes are behind you (or somebody else offers to do it for you). Blessings and a [gentle] hug to you!

    1. Thank you, Barbara. Yes, The Lord has been answering prayers on Shannon's behalf. She still needs our prayers, however...for continued progress and also for spiritual and emotional healing...God knows, and I know He is on the "case". Thank you for enjoying the nature photos and also Lily and her new friend Joe the Scarecrow! They do make a cheery pair!! Such fun! And yes, the birdbath can wait. Some things are just being left up to "nature" to take care of themselves for a while. Thank you for the "gentle hug". I appreciate that as well... and (((Hugs))) back at you. Hope you have a blessed weekend my friend.

  9. Pam: The moths that were camouflaged were a treat to see. We are experiencing warmer than usual weather up here. Glad to hear that Shannon has seemed to adjust to her circumstance. God has His hand on her. Peace and blessings to you and yours. I love the rose.

    1. Thank you Cecelia. I wouldn't have known the moths were there if I hadn't seen them fly to that leaf myself. They were very well camouflaged, and I think they thought I couldn't see them since they stayed there so long for me to take their pictures! Such wonderful beauty to behold! Yes, Shannon is making good progress. I know God has plans for her life. Right now Shannon still thinks she is the one in control. I pray that God will help her to realize how much He has done for her and how much He loves her. Continued prayers are always appreciated. Oh, and the rose just gets more beautiful every day. God is so good.

  11. All your posts are lovely, and this one also, and so chock-full of beauty and cute things and uplifting and funny remarks! And how amazing that Matthew's Secret Garden rose bloomed also for his son Noah's birthday! I love love love the lizard photos, such funny creatures who always look either mysterious or jolly! Those bugs on the yellow flowers are saying, "Thank you, Lord, for the delicious nectar and pollen!" Most of all, I am very intrigued and amused by the Birdbath Bubble! Very odd and interesting!

    1. I'm so glad you popped in for a visit and enjoyed all the unique and interesting things I discovered in God's beautiful world this past week! I love how you see the cuteness in the lizards and also the bugs on the flowers expressing their thanks to the Lord for the food He provides for them. And who knows what interesting thing was breathing under that bubble??? A creature from the black lagoon birdbath perhaps? LOL. Thank you for being a kindred spirit. You always seem to "get it". Have a blessed and wonderful weekend my friend!

    1. Oh good morning my dear friend Debbi!! I am happy you enjoyed the pictures. I always love to hear from you and visit with you on your front porch, or here on Still Waters Pond. And Lily Grace would so love to see you and her identical cousin Tracie again! I hope we can arrange it someday. Yes, we are definitely ready for some cooler weather. I am sure it is coming...we just have to be patient, because once it gets here, we will wish it was warm again! LOL. Of course here in Florida it never gets quite THAT cold! But I am SO ready for FALL. Yes, God does bless us with the blossoms on that rosebush. It is definitely a gift from God to us and I praise Him for His love and kindness to us, His children. He knows exactly what will bless us and it pleases Him to do so. I am very humbled and thankful. I hope you all have a wonderful day and week. We are off to the "lab" this morning for hubby to have his lab work done, then off to breakfast somewhere! Yippee!
