A Cozy Home
From our hostess Annie:
"Hi Friends! It's another Toni Taddeo Tuesday 4.. even though I keep hitting the 5 when typing.
Here it is a chilly Sunday evening and summer seems far off but I hope your home is warm and cozy... Speaking of cozy, here are some questions about a cozy home."
1. What’s one feature in your home that makes it feel especially cozy or comfortable for you? I like that our home is laid out so that I can be in the kitchen and not be too far away from the activities in the living/dining room.
I love that our dining area is open to the kitchen and the living room, so that we are not isolated from each other and we can spread out when there is a larger group gathered.
2. How do you like to personalize your living space to reflect your style or personality?
This is my "Room with a View", where I do all of my writing. It is also a room where I am surrounded by special things that have happy memories of loved ones attached...
And where I can be imaginative and creative...
as I surround myself with the beauty of God's Creation from outdoors as well...
Also, I love that this room is attached to the living room and while I am in here writing to you, I am not that far from where hubby is sitting and watching TV and we can communicate throughout the day/evening without having to shout through walls! Our last house was divided up by big rooms and walls and I often felt isolated when I was in the kitchen and the family was just too far away. I like the coziness of this home much better!
3. Are there any home maintenance tasks you find particularly important for keeping your space comfortable year-round?
Oh goodness, there are so many...maintaining our HVAC system and changing the filters regularly (reminder to Pam...it's time to change the filter!) Regular housekeeping chores, both inside and out.
Today we paid some fellows (friends from our church, actually), to come and do some major mowing and other yard work for us since hubby just really isn't up to maintaining it like he used to. We especially needed to have the grass/weeds cut down again beside the pond before the rains really get started and that area becomes very wet and won't be able to be cut again until next winter or spring. However, I had warned them that the big mower most likely will get stuck if he gets too close to the pond, as that ground is very mucky. Normally it can only be cut with a weed whacker. However, apparently he thought the ground was a little firmer and he tried to go ahead and use his big mower to cut it. Aha! He gut stuck just like I said! Thankfully our mower was available to attach to his and they were able to pull it out of the mud. I really had to bite my tongue to keep from saying "I told you so!" LOL.

I am thankful that no damage was done to either mower or the men doing the work! And I am thankful for all of the work they did for us throughout the whole rest of the yard. They worked way beyond what we were able to pay them, and they are truly a blessing to us. They will also be coming back to trim some big oak trees in our front yard before the hurricane season arrives in full force.
4. What’s your go-to way to unwind or create a relaxing atmosphere at home after a long day?
Sitting in my recliner and reading a good book, with a hot cup of tea, (or ice water if it's too hot for hot tea). Hubby is in his recliner next to mine, watching sports or whatever he enjoy on TV or laptop.
And that's what I'm going to go do right now as soon as I hit "publish" on this post!
This reminder is sitting here beside me as I write. So, yes, let us do just that!
Amen and Good Night my friends!
Lovely photos, Pamela, and I am sure your church friends appreciated you paying them to help you out in the yardwork.
ReplyDeleteI know how much the yard work help from your church means. Teen Challenge comes Thursday and while it’s only once a month, we look forward to it. Things really grow fast in one month!
ReplyDeleteOur living room/dining and kitchen are accessible but not as much as yours. In other words, if someone comes to the front door, they wouldn’t see our kitchen but I lived for years with a kitchen that was cut off and funny too because it was so small but when we entertained, everyone would squeeze into that kitchen! Crazy. I had a plaque that said, “ no matter where I serve my guests, they seem to like my kitchen the best!”
I was wondering how those turtle eggs are? Have they hatched or did an animal eat the eggs? 🍳 Have you thought about the cats during a hurricane? Do they have a place for safety?
As you go into Hurricane season, our fire season has started with three just this weekend - thankfully put down quickly.
You really have a nice view to look out on.
Give the kitties a hug from me and Susie says “meow”
Debby, my mother had that same plaque, actually it was a needlepoint that my grandmother had made, in her kitchen! My sister Doris has it now, and I've asked her to take a picture and send it to me so I can share it in a future post. Regarding the turtle eggs, I haven't seen any sign of them, and I am doubting now that the turtle actually laid any eggs. She went through all the motions, but there is really no evidence left behind that she laid any eggs unless they are really really small. So I think it was a false alarm. Either way, they take about 60 days to develop before hatching I think. As far as the cats go in a hurricane, that's a good question that I haven't thought about. These cats are very resourceful and have places to hide in the woods, etc., but we may need to make some other arrangements for them if a bad storm is headed our way. I may need to go ahead and get that litter box handy just in case they have to come inside. Thanks for reminding me! Sunshine and Blackie send Susie a warm "meow" from Florida!
DeleteI love your open concept home. Ours is not and it's always something I wished for.
ReplyDeleteYou have good friends from church to help with that yard work. What a blessing!
What a welcoming home and a beautiful reflection of you and your husband! My DH would be tempted to get as close as possible to the pond, too, and most likely would need a tow! lol
ReplyDeleteI love your home, Pam. It seems perfect for you and John and how you like to spend your time. I feel the same about mine and sure would love for you two (and the "kids") to come for a visit. I have room for you, them, and the pups!! xo
ReplyDeleteOur condo is also open concept and I, too, love it. I can be cutting things at the kitchen counter and see anyone in the living or dining room. It's perfect for us and I feel very blessed that we were able to buy it. They are rarely up for sale as many families pass them down. Your room with a view is beautiful. I see you in everything in it.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you had help with the yard. Silly boys. They always think us "old" ladies don't know much and have to prove us wrong. Good job in holding your tongue! :-)
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
Your home is so cozy! What a blessed place to live. Have a good week Pamela!
ReplyDeleteI too like the layout of your home, especially the living room, dining room and kitchen set up. It's nice to have enough space but not be so closed off. It's also great to have such wonderful helpers who go above and beyond in completing the work.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers and photos.
ReplyDeleteI so love the warm and welcoming feel of your home! We had an 'open concept' house in Arizona -- here, high walls and separate spaces. I think Tom would have preferred 'open' but he was gracious enough (lol) to let me have my way. Now, if I could only turn this desk and internet connection 90 degrees, life would be perfect. Hahaha.
ReplyDeleteWhat a hair-raising experience with that mower. Any more rainfall and we're going to have a pond of our own. God bless your friends!
I love your open living area, Pamela - it's perfect! Ours is pretty much the same which does make it fun when family is here or even if it's just the two of us. And what can I say about your room with a view except it is perfect for you in every way. Seeing one mower "rescuing" the other is such a funny sight. So glad no one got hurt.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Glad you got your lawn mowed and that the trees will be made safer. It can cost a fortune for yard work. Thanks for joining in. Glad you have a safe , warm and cozy place to be.
ReplyDeleteOh my, the lawn guys make me think of something that would happen around here...and has many, many times. lol Thanks for showing us around your home, especially your room with a view. I always enjoy seeing your treasures. Have a blessed rest of the week!
ReplyDeleteYour home provides such comfort in simple, thoughtful spaces; it truly feels like a warm embrace.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way you do about our living area, this house has the whole middle of the house from the front living room window to the sliding doors into the back yard, as one big open living area, living, dining and kitchen. the room is why we bought this house, that and the pool. right now in the maintenance thing is the pool and it is killing me working on it and spend a lot of money on chemicals. Bob has loved that pool since 1989 when we spied it through the front window.
ReplyDeleteI love your home too and the view of the pond from your computer is one I would love to have.
You have a lovely home that looks so welcoming and comfortable. Our living area, dining area and kitchen is all open and it sure makes it great for me when I am cooking. I can still see the TV and I can visit with those in the living area. Comfort is what it is all about...Doesn't it feel great to get the lawn all mowed and cleaned up? glad you were able to get some help doing this for you. Enjoy this beautiful Thursday...raining here!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post
ReplyDeletePlease read my post
ReplyDeleteCozy ... Yes that's the description of your home and the love you fill it with.
ReplyDeleteWe really bought our home 18 years ago because of the view to the backyard. It was already established and when we walked in to it we said this is it. We looked no further. Trees and greenery and everything on one floor was a win/win for us. We could actually live outdoors most of the year around...as opposed to the San Francisco Bay Area with fog and drizzle so much of the time.
Great blog post today.
Sue
Since I have been inside both your previous home and your current home, I can truthfully attest to the fact that you have a very pleasant style of decorating, creating a welcome feel. I do agree with you that your current floor plan is more conducive to keeping in touch with the rest of the family with the open lay out.
ReplyDeleteFor me something that always makes for a cozy home is a wood burner or hearth. I love our wood burner. It looks so welcoming.
ReplyDeletePamela, thank you for sharing these wonderful pictures of your home. It all looks so welcoming. I truly enjoyed the visit. xx
ReplyDeleteI love seeing photos of your home! Beautiful! I've lived in homes with an open concept for so long that if I'm in a house with the kitchen is separated from the living area, it feels almost claustrophobic. I love the openness.
ReplyDeleteI've lived in a couple places with a fireplace and I loved it although it was messy. I would have enjoyed a "fake" fireplace with gas. I've been tempted to buy a Ben Franklin store (again a fake one) that would give some warmth and ambiance.
Love your home Pamela, so cozy, warm and inviting. Your special area was so full of things to enjoy, and I ♥♥♥♥♥ your dolls and doll house. Thanks for sharing with us, hope you're enjoying a very blessed and happy day.
ReplyDeleteY'all have a cozy place, inside and out. I've gotten my heavy zero turning radius mower stuck a couple of times. That's when I'm really thankful to have a pickup truck. Yanked it right back out of the pickle I was in. Blessings. 😊
