Friday Foto Friends ~ A Place of Peace and Deliverance

A few weeks ago I shared with you a place that was special to us, Lake Swan Camp.  Well, this morning I didn't have any pictures to share with you for Friday Foto Friends, so we decided we needed to take a little ride anyway and get away from the TV for a while.  Sometimes you just need to have a change of perspective in your view so you can see things more clearly, or at least see things that are more pleasant and positive.  Therefore, I will share the pictures I took this morning at Lake Swan Camp.

The lake was very calm and peaceful, soothing to my spirit.

If I'd brought my paddle, I might have been tempted to go for a canoe ride:

They have a very interesting Miniature Golf game there:

A fun way to learn some key scripture verses as you play your way through the golf course.

Then I was intrigued by this wonderful firepit, with all the benches around it. I can just imagine campers singing "Kum By Ya, My Lord, Kum By Ya".... and
 "Pass It On"
(By Kurt Kaiser)

It only takes a spark to get a fire going,
And soon all those around can warm up in its glowing;
That's how it is with God's Love,
Once you've experienced it,
Your spread the love to everyone
You want to pass it on.

What a wondrous time is spring,
When all the tress are budding
The birds begin to sing, the flowers start their blooming;
That's how it is with God's love,
Once you've experienced it.
You want to sing, it's fresh like spring,
You want to pass it on.

I wish for you my friend
This happiness that I've found;
You can depend on God
It matters not where you're bound,
I'll shout it from the mountain top - PRAISE GOD!
I want the world to know
The Lord of love has come to me
I want to pass it on.

I'll shout it from the mountain top - PRAISE GOD!
I want the world to know
The Lord of love has come to me
I want to pass it on.

Then roast some marshmallows and make some s'mores, share testimonies around the firepit, pray for one another...makes me want to go to camp...how about you?

As I left that comforting spot I walked through the gorgeous old live oak trees and came to a sunken place where there was an old pond with a kind of marshy area in the middle.  Of course I had to move in a bit closer to check it out.

I could just barely see something hiding in the middle of the bushes...

A beautiful white egret, who I am certain was hoping I wouldn't discover her hiding place.

Reminded me of another song that you may have heard or sung at camp or at church:

"You are my hiding place
You always fill my heart
With songs of deliverance
Whenever I am afraid
I will trust in You
I will trust in You

Let the weak say I am strong
In the strength of the Lord
You are my hiding place
You always fill my heart
With songs of deliverance
Whenever I am afraid
I will trust in You
I will trust in You

You are my hiding place (I will trust in You)
You always fill my heart (Let the weak say I am strong)
With songs of deliverance (In the strength of the Lord)
Whenever I am afraid
I will trust in You"

This song comes from Psalm 32:7
"You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble;
You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah"

From there we drove past the chapel and dining hall, nestled in among the lovely old oak trees...

After spending some time walking about these beautiful grounds and soaking in the comforting warmth of the Holy Spirit's Presence into our souls, we felt refreshed and ready to head back home and face whatever the future may hold.
During these days of uncertainty, I believe we each have to seek our own place of peace.
No matter what lies ahead, we know that we are safe in the protection and strength of the Lord.
He will never leave us nor forsake us, and
God is STILL in control, no matter what!
I hope you are also able to find this kind of peace of mind.

It's taken me all day to get this post written as there have been several interruptions...
had to get my hair cut, had to tend to some other business matters...and now I must tell you that we are going to be away for a few days, on a little getaway trip to the "mountains" with our kids.
They were sweet enough to invite us "old folks" to go along with them as they head for the hills of Georgia to celebrate their upcoming 3rd anniversary next week. So I may be offline for a few days, but you can be sure I will be taking plenty of pictures and will have plenty to share with you when we get back. And if you are a friend of ours who lives in Ga., please don't be offended that we aren't able to stop and visit on this trip. Since we are traveling with our kids we are on their schedule and are kind of along for the ride.  There are several dear ones we know whom we would love to visit, but that will have to be at some other time when we are traveling on our own.

Have a blessed and beautiful weekend everyone.
Keep praying for our country!
And look for ways to find some peace.

  1. Pam, thank you for sharing this post--we all can benefit from getting away from the world from time to time. The campgrounds are so very peaceful and relaxing. In my mind, I'm seeing myself playing miniature golf VERY poorly--this would trigger uncontrollable laughter from myself and those with me.

    Enjoy your little get-away!

    Love and blessings!

    1. Yes, even a day trip to a lovely park or camp or just a nice ride in the country can be so soothing to a ruffled spirit and mind. I am not much good at miniature golf either...or any kind of golf. Most people do get a kick out of my sporting events! Thank you, Kim. I know we will have a great time just getting away from the "noise" of the current events for a few days.

  4. I'm so taken by that slide! Yep, there's certain things that trigger my inner 10-year-old and that's one of them. :) Thumb's up to whomever designed that mini golf course with verses! I'm sure happy to hear of your upcoming getaway ... a bit envious, too. That's a wonderful gesture on the part of your 'kids.' Have fun and be safe!

Thank you...we look forward to being away for a few days and having a change of scenery. We have the best "kids" ever.

    1. Yes, as you probably can tell, I too, have always found the water to be calming. I must need a lot of "calming" since I needed to find a house on the water, and even then I still have to go looking for other water places when I feel like I need some solace and peace. Of course, our true peace comes only from God. Yes, we are looking forward to these next few days. I think the timing is perfect!!

    1. Thank you, Ruth. It really is a peaceful and serene setting. I am thankful it isn't very far away from where we live, so we can drive there anytime we need some "solace". And then to have this little mountain trip with our kids, well, God's timing is perfect! I am so ready to get away!!!

With all the turmoil going on in our country right now, we just need to break away and rise above the fray and enjoy some of God's natural beauty. Thank you so much for your blessings!

    1. Thank you, Terra. Yes, it is a very beautiful and peaceful camp, and those who are blessed to spend some time there come away refreshed and renewed in spirit and fervor for Christ. I took some campers there several years ago and stayed as a counselor for the week, and even though they about killed me with obstacle courses and games, the spiritual input and renewal was worth all the effort. I am thankful that this place is not far from where we live and we can drive there anytime and just soak it all in. Have a blessed and wonderful week.

  14. I enjoyed all the pictures you shared from Lake Swan Camp. I really enjoyed the songs you posted and I know them all. I remember singing Pass It On and Kum Ba Ya at church camp and camp fires at the beach. I love You Are My Hiding Place and I have the song by Selah on my cell phone. Music touches my soul and calms me. Thanks for sharing!

  15. Hi there my friend Pam! I sure enjoyed this post and seeing the camp and the lake, what fun! Sure brings back alot of memories of girl scout camping so many years ago. We sure loved it and had alot of fun. I never went to church or youth camps but our kids sure did. I remember canoes and pool swims and mostly the daily and nightly camp fires(loved singing around the campfires!!)....so fun, so cozy! We cooked all kinds of stuff on those fires...BIG breakfasts of bacon and eggs and sausage etc....and roasted hot hogs for supper and stews and of course, the famous "s-mores" all melty and gooey and hot. My other favorite things was the hikes....lots and lots of long hikes through the woods, so fun. Hope you are enjoying the time with family and having a GREAT GET'A'WAY!! have fun and be safe and sure hope you make pictures for us

  16. What an enjoyable day trip! I really enjoyed walking the grounds of the camp with you. How wonderful to play mini golf with such interesting scriptures as you play! It's so true that we need to unplug, and get away from the constant sources of media in our lives, not all of them bad but still... so nice to getaway and just enjoy a beautiful place. This is why I walk every day, it is my source of solace, comfort, rest and peace in the Lord. The noise of the world fades away as I walk. I pray you have a blessed and very special time in Georgia with your children as they celebrate their 3rd year anniversary! Has it been that long? I remember when they got married! Many blessings to you :)
