Happy Sunday Morning!

Happy Sunday Morning!  I hope you have remembered to turn your clocks back last night, so you have had that wonderful extra hour of sleep this morning!  Did you wake up in time to see that gorgeous full moon out there? It was really something.

Wondering how many of you had any Trick or Treaters last night?  We had a lot less than we did last year, so I am guessing that many were not too sure about going out due to the threat of the virus. We were ready for them if they did come,  with plenty of candy and a friendly Scarecrow to greet them:

We don't go all out with decorations, but we have a good time, and it is always fun to see the little children in their cute costumes. There were some really creative ones last night, and I wish I had taken more pictures, but here is one special family who came to visit. They are the grandchildren of our good church friends:

Precious children who have stolen our hearts too!

A couple of them entertained us with cartwheels, which was great fun to watch!

Happy Times!
My hubby, our new Scarecrow Friend, our friend Sherrie, and me, all ready to pass out the candy to the kiddos!

So now, it is Sunday morning, and the Halloween excitement is over, and it is time for Sunday morning worship.  I am getting ready to go to church in a little while, but wanted to share our service with you if you would like to worship along with us. Please tune in and hear our Praise Team singing
"Precious Lord, Take My Hand."

I've copied below the history of this song, which our worship leader Carol sent to us this morning via email:

"The Praise Team is going to share Precious Lord, Take My Hand. For most, this is a very familiar song. I thought I would start sharing why certain songs were written, if I can find the information. This song was written by Thomas A. Dorsey, who was a blues musician, known as the "Father of Gospel Music." He was a musician and songwriter who began penning songs about God and faith in the early '20s. In 1932 while away working, Dorsey received horrible news that his wife and child died in childbirth. Wrecked by the news, Dorsey, in interviews, said God led him to the piano where he penned "Take My Hand, Precious Lord," which has become his best-known work.

God gave him this song to comfort him and I believe it has comforted many others since that time. If you are having difficulty dealing with the craziness around us, or difficult times in your personal lives, hold out your hand and let God take it. Sing with us."

Precious Lord take my hand, lead me on, let me stand
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn.
Thru the storm, thru the night, lead me on to the light
Take My Hand, Precious Lord, lead me home.

When my way grows drear, Precious Lord linger near
When my life is almost gone
Hear my cry, hear my call, Hold my hand lest I fall
Take My Hand, Precious Lord, lead me home.

When the darkness appears and the night draws near
And the day is past and and gone
At the river I stand, Guide my feet hold my hand
Take My Hand, Precious Lord, lead me home.

Precious Lord take my hand, lead me on, let me stand
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn.
Thru the storm, thru the night, lead me on to the light
Take My Hand, Precious Lord, lead me home.

Following the song by the Praise Team, our pastor has a wonderful sermon from Matthew chapter 18, followed by The Lord's Supper. So if you'd like join in, have your bread and cup of juice ready to participate at the close of the message.

Matthew 18:21-22
21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, until seventy times seven.

Have a blessed and Happy Sunday! The first day of November too!

  1. Loved your photos of the cute kids in their costumes, Pam. No, we haven't done the candy thing on Halloween for several years now as there aren't many young children in our neighborhood, but my daughter sent me photos of the grands in theirs. Too cute! We also missed that full moon; with all the trees surrounding us, it's difficult to see the night sky.
Loved the hymn and the history behind it, too.
    Blessed Sunday to you!

    1. This neighborhood is the first one we've been in in a long time that actually has children come around on Halloween. Last year we got caught off guard, not knowing how many to expect and ran out of candy really early. This year I was well prepared, but only about 1/2 as many showed up. Oh well...maybe next year will be a boom year for everything. Oh, I am sure your little grand girls were adorable. Have you posted their pictures? I'll have to go check. These cute little kids who I shared here are kind of like surrogate grandchildren for us. They are the sweetest kids and just seem to love everybody. Thank you for visiting. Happy November!

  4. That is a beautiful song and one I have loved for a long time. We don't get beggars here in our community which is fine with us. There aren't any sidewalks and we are all old people so don't see kids coming in. We did get "Boo-ed" this year. Someone left a bag of Halloween goodies at our door. Don't know who, but it was fun. Have a good week!!

    1. Oh how sweet that someone actually treated you! That was a nice idea!! I hope you have a good week too. Now we have to start thinking about Thanksgiving!

  5. Because our home kind of sits off to itself, we've never had trick-or-treaters ... which may be a good thing, considering my excitable and loud-mouth pups. Your friend's littles doing the cartwheel and handstand are SO cute.

I love that song, but wasn't familiar with its origin. Sometimes our pastor does the same thing; and for me, that seems to enrich my listening pleasure. We, too, had Holy Communion this morning for the All Saint's Day service.

    1. Weren't those children just adorable? They are kind of like surrogate grandchildren for us since we don't have any young ones...just one 21 year old who lives way up in Maine and we never see him anymore. Wanted to go see him for his birthday this year, but of course this pandemic had to spoil that idea! Have a blessed and beautiful week and Happy November!

  6. Aww, the kids are so cute. Love the one with the rainbow and funny sunglasses. That would be my style. LOL
There are no trick-or-treaters in our 'hood. We live way out in the country and there would be multiple fences one would have to breech to get to all the homes. Plus, we're a long way from others. I like it that way though.
Now we're heading to Thanksgiving which is my favorite Holiday! Yippee. No cards or presents, just family, friends and lots of food. My cup of tea. :)

    1. Are you my twin separated from birth? You sound just like me regarding Thanksgiving! That is exactly what I say every year and wish Christmas could be just like it. I don't see the need for people to go into debt every year buying presents just so they have something to give people even though it may be something that will end up collecting dust someday. I know, it's the thought that counts, but my "thought" is that our time together should be "the gift". Spend time talking, visiting, learning more about what that person truly loves to do, about their history, whatever it may be...have a cup of tea and some pie or cookies after a lovely dinner, play games, take pictures. Talk!!! That is what I love. Yes, I think we could enjoy visiting together!!!

  7. Thanks for sharing the story behind the song. I have known that song for many years, but I don't recall ever hearing how it came about. Very touching.

    1. Yes, it was a new story for me as well. It is interesting to hear the history of many of our beloved hymns and gospel songs. Many came out of great heartache and trials, and God used their story to bless many others for generations to come.
I hope you have a blessed and wonderful week and Happy November!

  8. Pam: We don't have candy for trick or treaters here at home. Few children in the neighborhood. OUr church has "trunk and treat" each year. This year it was a drive-thru. With the COVID stuff going on, only eight or nine cars participated. My best friend said the had about 150 kids. Thank you for posting that hymn. I googled Thomas A. Dorsey. I learned that this Thomas Dorsey was another Tom Dorsey than the one I grew up hearing on television. Thanks for the lesson. God is in control.

    1. I was wondering too if this Tommy Dorsey was connected to Jimmy Dorsey. Didn't they have an orchestra/band or something that was popular in the 40's? I remember my mother and dad talking about them. So must be a different one. Wow, 150 kids? We think we had maybe 20-25, which was far less than last year. So I have lots of candy left over because I bought extra this year after running out last year! LOL. Take care my friend. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

  9. Pam, it sounds like you had a good Saturday. For several years, I've opted to not hand out candy to trick or treaters--hiding out is a great option! This year, I'm not sure anyone nearby handed out candy. The children's costumes are super cute! Ahh...to be able to do a cartwheel again. :)

    Love and blessings!
