Happy November!

Well, it's November, folks!  We made it this far in 2020, and if we can survive this week we just might make it to the end of 2020!  Praying and trusting that God will be with us this week as we cast our ballots (most of us already have) and as we wait on the results and pray for God's will to be done. That is my prayer. Regardless of what people may think, God is still in control and we will trust Him to do what is best for all concerned. But that still doesn't mean that you shouldn't vote. Do your part, but most of all, pray and seek God's wisdom first.
Okay, that is all I will say about that for now. I may have a lot more to say after tomorrow.

I see Thanksgiving on the calendar...and I have no clue just what we are going to do yet. Haven't talked recently to my relatives who are close enough to come and share Thanksgiving with us as they usually do, to see what they are thinking and what they feel "comfortable enough" to do. What are you folks doing this year?

Here's the picture from my John Sloane Country Seasons Calendar for November. Today I really could have used that firewood to build a fire...it got pretty chilly here in Florida...in the 50's this morning and currently this evening it is 56, and it has been quite windy all day. At least it was sunny, so that was nice. I know many of you are much colder where you are, so I'm not complaining. But this is Florida, after all!  (And it is expected to go down into the 40's tonight!)

And here's the picture from my Tea Times calendar for November:

Cute tea set with the fox hunters on the hunt.  Poor widdle foxy.

I think I'd rather do as C.S. Lewis says here:

Yes, on a chilly fall day, put a fire in the fireplace (ours is electric) and sit down with a cup of tea and a good book and just relax and enjoy!!

My cup may not have been that fancy fox hunting group on the English countryside, but it is an "Olde English Countryside" design...

This cup is very old and has cracks in it, but I love the pictures on it.

See? I told you it was an "Olde English Countryside"!

So, what have you been doing today? We spent the morning at Walmart buying groceries. That was our walk for today as it was just too cold and windy this morning to walk outside. Then I went to our church Ladies' Bible Study this afternoon...still studying Joshua, and the discussion today was from Joshua 5, and also Leviticus 26:40-42,  talking about "circumcision of the heart".  God says of the Hebrew people, that if they will "confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors...their unfaithfulness and their hostility toward Me...then when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they pay for their sin, I will remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land." (Leviticus 26:40-42)  In essence, when we turn back from our sinful ways toward God, He will forgive us and remember His promises toward us...
I believe our nation is in need of this kind of humbling and repentance and then forgiveness and healing from God.  Tonight, on the eve of this very important election, we really need to pray for our country to turn back to God so that He will heal our land.

In the meantime, how about some pictures from my weekend?

We took a nice little ride back down to the area where we used to live and stopped in at the boat ramp onto Big Lake Kerr...a lovely place where I've taken many beautiful pictures in the past.  I noticed these pretty yellow flowers along the shore and when I went to take a picture of the flowers I realized there were these very different looking butterflies flitting all around them.  Not sure that I've ever seen this particular butterfly before, but I looked it up and it is a "White Peacock"

This one below looks a little battle scarred:

But they both were enjoying their dinner of nectar from these lovely flowers. They didn't seem to notice me at all!

Then I turned my sights to the gorgeous smooth waters of Big Lake Kerr, and the perfectly clear blue skies above:

This lake has a very nice white sandy bottom, making it a nice place for swimming and boating.

It was a perfect morning!

Then we came home to our own Still Waters Pond and I noticed this very unusual bird swaying in the weeds along the shore.  It is an American Bittern, and this was my first sighting of this particular bird.

I noticed that he seemed to be swaying in the weeds, and then I read in my Audubon bird guide that "when an observer is nearby, he will often stretch its neck up, point his bill skyward, and sway slowly from side to side, as if imitating waving reeds."  And that is exactly what he did for a very long time.

I was able to watch him from a distance for quite a while, and then decided I'd best go away so he could get back to his fishing and stop the swaying...

Not long after this he moved on to different parts of the pond, but I felt honored to be able to watch him for so long. I believe our Still Waters Pond would be a perfect habitat for him! Maybe he'll be back!

Interestingly enough, we read the 23rd Psalm in our morning devotions today. Perhaps it is good to review this Psalm again as we prepare our hearts for the upcoming events this week:

"The Lord is my Shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and You staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."

May the Lord give us peace of mind and soul no matter what.

Have a blessed week my friends.

  1. Oh yes, love that C.S. Lewis quote! And your pretty mug. I'm growing to like the looke of transferware more and more...especially the brown. Beautiful, sunny photos...and that Bittern is amazing! I've never heard of those, let alone seen one. We haven't voted. We waited to vote in person as I believe the majority of Trump supporters have done here in PA. Yes, God's will be done, but I am praying for sanity and safety all around. I don't imagine it will go smoothly no matter who wins.

    1. Praying that you are able to vote with no issues. I hope the lines are long for Trump, but I do hope you won't have to wait long! Does that make sense? Anyway, we are praying for God's will to be done. I also like the transferware but really don't have much of it. My mother had some nice pieces, but either someone else in the family got them or they went the way of the pickers at the Estate Sale. I could only take so much stuff and had to draw the line somewhere. This particular cup I've had for years and I think I actually got it at an estate sale in Ohio. Not sure. It's been so long ago. Have a blessed and beautiful day! It is gorgeous here...cool and sunny!

  2. WOW!! You took some beautiful photos today, Pam! That lake is so pretty and the butterfly is gorgeous! We don't know yet about Thanksgiving. Talking about going out but it is easier to do here at home (I think). We will have Helen and Cheryl if no one else. Keep us posted on your plans!

    1. I have to talk to my sister and also to my husband's brother and family to find out what everyone is thinking. I know we will at least have our immediate family here, but whether or not others will want to come is up to them. If not, I may invite some from our church who have no place to go. Depends on space too. In years past we often had two different dinners, one on Thursday and one on Saturday. I'm not up to doing both this year. So we shall see! We'll be thankful no matter what!

  3. Your little fireplace and cup look so inviting. It was definitely cool today. I worked hard in the house all day, so I am going to rest some tomorrow. I plan to put some supper in the crockpot tomorrow and try and tune out the news until tomorrow evening. I pray that either way Christians wake up in America. I think they are beginning to.
    Thanksgiving. Wow, my sister-in-law is definitely fearful so much that I have no idea what kind of Thanksgiving celebration we will have. My daughter is going to her in-laws this year, so I will have my son, my mom even if we don't get together with hubby's sister's family. I am going to start with tomorrow really thanking God for my many blessings. I am going to make all of November just that - a month of Thanksgiving. Even if the election turns out poorly. I am exhausted thinking of it and I don't think our good Lord would want that.
    Always love your nature photos.

    1. Yes, the main thing is to be thankful no matter what this month brings. Praying hard for what I believe is right, but trusting God to do what He knows is right, and hoping and praying that we are in agreement! Re: Thanksgiving: I know we will have at least our immediate family here, and then whoever wants to come. If not relatives who live about 2 hrs. away, then local people from church who have no where to go. One way or the other, we will celebrate and be thankful! God is good! All the time, God is good!

  4. Wonderful pictures of the butterflies and the lake. The Bittern is amazing. You captured fantastic shots of him. of course our Thanksgiving is past, but either way, we are facing more restrictions again, limiting indoor, private gatherings to no more than five people besides the home owners.Our Covid numbers had been really low and now are up again, so something must be done. I'm thankful, that for the most part, i have no need to go out into the public.

    1. Praying that your numbers go back down soon and that you and your family will be safe. I know the numbers here in the states spike up and down, but not so much here where we are. Praying for safety and also praying especially today for our election. So much happening at once. God is in control no matter what.

  5. When I read, "If we can survive this week we just might make it to the end of the year" I honestly thought if you had a medical issue you were dealing with. I keep forgetting the election is tomorrow! We voted a couple weeks ago so now I've moved on. :) I have such peace about this election. It doesn't matter who is in the White House, God Almighty is on the throne and He is in control of everyone and everything. He will use whoever is in office to further His kingdom and draw people to Himself.

    Our church usually does a huge Thanksgiving outreach, on Thanksgiving day. For more than 25 years our family has volunteered there and then we have our Thanksgiving on Friday. Well this year due to covid, the church is having a drive-through outreach on Wednesday where we'll give each car a bag with all the fixings. So this year I think we'll have our family Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving Day! It will be very different this year but there are still so many blessings!

    1. Your church Thanksgiving outreach idea sounds like a good plan for this year. Even though people will miss the fellowship of being together, families will be helped who may not have anything at all. I hope your family Thanksgiving will be really special. Yes, praying for this week and for the election and for peace. Our nation has suffered so much this year because of the pandemic and the constant unrest. Praying that God will help people to stop the division and be at peace. That's a big request, but our God is a BIG God. Praying hard. Have a blessed and peaceful week.

  9. Pam: I love the yellow flowers. I woke up very early this morning and still feel sleepy. Those flowers woke me up-more or less.It is God's blessing to you that you can still get out and enjoy His world. He is in control.

    1. I am glad that you enjoyed these lovely yellow flowers. They were so bright and pretty and a surprise to me. In other times that I have been to that location I don't recall ever seeing them in bloom, so that was a treat for me as well..esp. with those pretty butterflies! Yes, God IS in control, and we will trust Him and praise Him no matter what. He knows best for all.

  10. You always have such lovely pictures! I love that mug with the fireplace picture. How special to own such an antique. I have inherited a few items from my grandmothers that I cherish. I love Psalm 23! I am resting in God's peace. Enjoy your week!

    1. Thank you, Susan. I am glad you enjoyed this post. The mug with the fireplace picture was kind of a last minute "whim" last night as I was writing. Sometimes things just come to me, and I believe it is the Lord putting things together in a way that is pleasing and comforting to others as well. I love how HE does that! And yes, I am also resting in God's peace this week. God is in control no matter what. Blessings to you and yours.

  11. I so need to remember who's REALLY in control and quit chewing my fingernails. I even woke in the middle of the night, fretting. Now 'they' say there's a name for this election disorder. That's just ducky. LOL!

    I'm so taken by these calendar images; that and your fireplace. It's the most wonderful time of the year!

    1. Just keep praying and leaving the results in God's hands. That is what I am trying to do. God is in control no matter what the outcome. We know to Whom we belong, and He will take care of His children. Thank you for popping in. Always wonderful to visit with you. Yes, it is a wonderful time of the year. So much to be thankful for!

  12. Happy November to you too. Nice Bitern. Its a chilly day here. We did have gifted classes in my school system based on grades etc. and with 7 different levels. To me, gifted means someone like MOzart who was writing music at age 5. Most 'gifted' kids today are average and to me that's a great thing! Nothing wrong with it at all :) Lovely photos as always.Enjoyed the lake trip

  13. Love all the wonderful pictures! You surely have an eye for beauty. LOVE that mug! It has been so nice having cooler temps. Wish it would stay this way for a while but sure it won't. Trusting God as He is the only ONE that we can truly trust with the election and this country. Yes girl, so many things to be thankful for and learning all the more to be CONTENT and I always count my many blessings. Hugs and blessings to you dear lady.

  14. Pam, thank you for this glimpse of your life. As always, your photos are stunning! I'm planning on a fairly quiet week--spending time in prayer for my friend, Jodi's, family (and friends), as well as for the election and our nation. I'm reminded that God puts into office who He wills (that is clear in Daniel), so I take comfort that God is still on the throne and in control.

    As for Thanksgiving? At this point, I have no true plans (which is typical) and I'm okay with it.

    Love and blessings!

  16. How wonderful to see the Bittern! We've seen them in the past but not yet this Fall. We usually see them in the Fall and winter months so we'll be on the lookout. They are hard to spot in the weeds that are the same color. LOVE your White Peacocks too. They are beautiful! Enjoy your day!
