Wednesday Treasures: How I Spent My Day

I'm not really doing a "Wednesday Treasures" today, but then again, these blessings are my "treasures".

So, I'm wondering how most of you spent the past 24 hours? Without going into the grueling details of the roller coaster ride we've been on for the past 24 hours, I thought I would show you what I've been doing instead.  I've pretty much stayed away from social media today and have limited TV watching to hitting the highlights early this morning, noon, and this evening. Rather than stressing over what is or is not happening quickly enough, here is how I spent my day.  What a joy to finally be able to capture a picture of this Belted Kingfisher, who often loudly sings his rattling song as he flies over Still Waters Pond, but he is always too quick for me to get a picture...until now!  I consider this one of God's little blessings to help me focus on the beauty around us rather than the other things that aren't so pretty.

I love how the early morning sunshine illuminates the back porch and reflects off the pond, and an extra bonus was the vision of our American flag, blowing in the breeze...reflected in the glass doors as we had our front door open, looking out through the storm door to the front porch. Just a little reminder of how thankful we are to still have the freedom to enjoy such wonders...

Actually, this was my lunch yesterday, and it looked so pretty I just had to take a picture:

If you remember me sharing with you about our refrigerator HERE a couple of weeks ago, you may recall that I mentioned that we needed to replace our refrigerator because of temperature control issues that we couldn't resolve.  However, the replacement refrigerator that we wanted was not in stock and not even available anywhere at that time.  I kept watching for it to come available online, and about a week later it said it would be available in a few weeks. So we decided to take the plunge and order it, praying that our current refrigerator would continue to run well enough to at least keep our basic food cold enough. We just didn't buy anymore ice cream and I constantly monitored the condition of the lettuce and other produce to make sure they weren't freezing.  Well, today was the day! The new refrigerator  was to be delivered this morning.  So I had a task before me to clean out the old, put everything in coolers until the appliance delivery truck arrived, and they could remove the old fridge and set up the new.
Here's the very nice delivery guys taking out the old:
(Yes, I know it looks perfectly fine from the outside, but remember, you can't judge a book by its cover, nor can you judge an older refrigerator by its looks...)

And here is the NEW, all set up and ready to go:

Yes we decided to get a side by side refrigerator for several reasons.  #1, this one actually fit into the limited space that was available without us having to take down a wall.

However, we did have to move the shelf above the refrigerator up several inches because this fridge is taller than our old one.  Thankfully, our carpenter son was able to do that for us ahead of time, and it was quite a job...but he did it perfectly, because below you can see that there is room to spare:

The other reason was that now I can actually open the doors and not bump into the island across from it. The other refrigerator door was much wider, and we couldn't open it the whole way without bumping the island.  I couldn't even pull out the vegetable drawer the whole way to get out my vegetables or to clean it. It was a constant frustration not being able to open that door the whole way.
Now, as you can see below, we have plenty of room and can even get around the door when it is open!

So that was a wonderful blessing to arrive today and keep us occupied and away from TV and Social Media.  Plus, after lunch we needed a nap after staying up so late last night watching you know what.

After supper we took our usual walk. We are having to remember to go a little earlier these days since the time change, as it is getting dark earlier and if we wait until after supper and after washing dishes, etc., as we normally did, it is almost too dark to go. So we try to eat a little earlier and get out the door as soon as possible.

These were the skies this evening as we walked:

Then we hurried back home so we could see the sunset on Still Waters Pond before it was too late:

What a beautiful way to end the day!
And then to come and share it with you.
I do hope to get around to read your posts for today as I can.  I am getting behind in my reading, but now you know why.

Here are some excerpts from the scriptures we read this morning in our devotions:

Philippians 2:14-16

14.  "Do all things without complaining and disputing.
15.  that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation,
among whom you shines as lights in the world,
16.  holding fast the word of life,
so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain."

Psalm 27: 1-3, 5-6, 13-14
1.  "The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?
2.  When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh,
My enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell.
3.  Though an army may encamp against me,
My heart shall not fear;
Though war may rise against me,
In this I will be confident."

5.  "For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion'
In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me;
He shall set me high upon a rock.
6.  And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me;
Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord."

13.  "I would have lost heart,
unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.
14.  Wait on the Lord,
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!"

I'd call that some good advice and encouragement during these days of "waiting on the Lord."  May we continue to put our trust in the Lord, no matter what the outcome of these current "events" in our land. Always remember that God is in control, and He will strengthen our hearts and take care of us no matter what.

Be blessed my friends.

  1. These are sweet treasures, Pamela.
    Thank you for sharing your simple blessings and especially the Scriptures. I haven't watched the "news" either, just checked in occasionally. Symptoms of both anxiety and fear are beginning to churn....from living alone, I guess. Take care and God bless.

    1. I pray that your anxieties are relieved as you put your trust in the Lord for all things, no matter what the outcome. My heart goes out to you as you must deal with these things at home alone, but I pray you know that you are never truly alone. God is always with you and He will give you peace and comfort. (((hugs)))

  2. This was a good read. I kept my grandson today who has a cold and that kept me from the news and such. IT was good to turn the outside down. I saw a Belted Kingfisher for the first time EVER on Saturday.

    1. I'm sorry Tucker has a cold. I hope he is feeling better today (and that you don't get it!) Yes, it is good to be occupied with other things these days and just pray for the situations that we cannot do anything about. We've done our part, and now we must leave everything in God's capable hands. This little Belted Kingfisher has been around here for a long time, and I hear him usually in the mornings, but rarely ever get to see him quickly enough to take a picture. It was so nice of him to sit still for a few minutes just for me! LOL. Praying today is a good good day.

    1. Thank you, Terri. We are excited to have the new fridge, and it is so much more convenient than the old one was. We are so thankful that this one came on sale and was finally available! Yes, we do enjoy our views across the pond, and it's been nice to go out on the back porch more on these cooler days. Looking forward to these next few months of nicer weather...hoping to do a lot more porch sitting! Have a blessed day my friend.

  4. As trying as these days are, Pam, our trust and hope must be placed in the Lord. I could not watch the returns last night, and had to limit my exposure to the news today. I feel in my soul that our country is immersed in spiritual warfare. Yes, as Christians, we know that the devil cannot ever win the victory, but he can certainly affect the battles we face here on earth. Let us never stop praying for this nation founded in God's name!
    Thank you, my friend, for your encouraging and relaxing photos!

    1. You are very right about the spiritual warfare issue. It is very prevalent, but our God reigns, and He will have the victory one way or the other. Even if our nation must have a "chastening rod" here in the future to help us appreciate the freedoms that we have more fully...I know we already do, but many just don't realize what we've got until it is lost. Praying that never happens...but also praying that God will keep us all strong in the meantime and keep looking up to Him. Praying today will be a better day...

  5. So glad you got your new fridge and that it fits the space better than the last. I had a fridge like that once where I couldn't open the door all the way and it drove me crazy! Thanks for sharing all the gorgeous photos too :)

    1. Thank you, Martha! Yes, you understand my issue with the door situation. This one is SO much better~ I am having to get used to the different arrangement of space with the side by side, but it is going to be perfect for our needs. So very thankful. And I am glad you enjoyed the pictures. We all need something more pleasant to look at and think about during these days of turbulence. Have a blessed day!!

  6. It is good vs evil plain and simple. Good idea not to watch much tv or engage in much social media. I did the same, including Blogdom.

    Ohh...a new refrigerator is such a blessing. That's a handsome one. Two options for refrigeration that I ponder are the purchase of two identical refrigerators placing them side by side with the handles on each placed appropriately. Then, more and more people with large families create a refrigerator room using air conditioners. It's like a walk-in cooler...amazing.

    1. Yes, I agree about the good vs. evil issue. No doubt about that! And I am still limiting my exposure to TV and social media. Blogdom is much more pleasant as I am careful about who I "follow". Regarding the refrigerator: When we moved here last year we left behind our extra fridge, and I had to adapt to just having one. We don't do as much entertaining here as we did before, and our family has shrunken as well, so we are managing to get along with just one. But then when that one wasn't working well, it made life a bit more frustrating. So now I am very happy to have a new one with a warranty that hopefully will last as long as I need it! My son and DIL live about a mile away, and they have a big upright freezer, so when I have big stuff to freeze (like a turkey) they have extra space to store it. That is a big help! Even bigger help, last year not only did my DIL store the turkey, but she cooked it too! Which reminds me, I need to talk to her about that again for this year! LOL. I hope you are having a good week. Thank you for popping in for a visit. Be blessed!

    1. Thank you, Cathy. Then you know how happy I am this week! At least about this! Now, if everything else was this wonderful out there we could all be happy as clams!! LOL. Be blessed dear friend. God is in control, so I am very thankful no matter what.

  8. Congrats on the new fridge! Looks great. The lettuce can now rest peacefully and the ice cream can return. I stayed off social media a good bit Tues and a lot Wed. I'm just so tired of it all. I voted and I've prayed and that's all I can do. God is ultimately in charge. He puts rulers into place and removes those He wants gone so it's up to Him now. Love your photos. I need to get a good camera or a better phone. Mine aren't very good. Take care, my friend.

    1. Yes, I agree with you re: "God is ultimately in charge..." Yes, we can rest in Him and know that He will take care of us no matter what. That is our comfort and hope and peace. Did I hear/see that you are getting a kitty? I hope that works out well for you and that you will enjoy her/him very much. I've thought about it, but hubby says no for now, and he knows best. But I am glad for you to have a new fur baby. I know you must miss your sweet puppy. (((hugs)))

  9. I tried not to look at social media too much yesterday, myself. Sometimes when everyone is all worked up as they are now, it is hard to fight getting sucked in...especially when you agree with what's being said. But it can consume you if you aren't careful. I've been working hard to keep my focus on the Lord and his promises. He will work things out according to his plan, which is better than anything I've got!

    1. Yes, we need to keep our focus on the Lord and not allow this world system to destroy us emotionally or otherwise. We've done our part, and now we much leave the results up to the Lord. He will always take care of us no matter what. So for now I just pray and then try to focus on happy things! Like you and all my other dear friends here!! So thankful we have this positive and pleasant outlet!

  10. The photos are great! I love sunsets and the like.
    Like you, I've turned to nature, working in the yard and staying busy rather than social media or the news. I just keep praying. It's so comforting to know that there are others trusting in Christ for when things get scary. Me and the LORD had a long discussion where I thanked Him profusely for all my blessings, especially that we live in the South WAY out in the Country with little-to-no distractions. He is so good to me. I'm gonna focus on that. Not the crazy world stuff only 'cause I get unnerved very easily.
    How did I ever get through the day(s) without Jesus!? I'm glad I can't remember that anymore. xx

    1. Yes, during these days of so much division and distrust, I find it much better to stay away from the fray and focus on the beautiful world God has given us to enjoy. He's got this covered either way, and we need not fear or be distressed. And yes, we live in the country too, but a little closer into town now than we did before. But still it is a small country town and nothing like the big cities. So very thankful for that. Thank you for visiting here. We can encourage and lift each other up in prayer when things get crazy. Our God Reigns!!!

    1. Thank you, Ruth. Yes, the skies were beautiful last evening. I am so glad I took the time to notice! And I am enjoying the new fridge. It is arranged a bit differently than what I am used to, but it is very convenient and easy to find things. And my lettuce and ice cream are just perfect now! LOL.

  12. Pam, I'm so glad that you and your husband were able to get a new refrigerator and that it fits! Your photos of nature are stunning, as always, and a great reminder about what's truly important. My Wednesday wasn't much different from other Wednesdays--other than trying to discern what is truly going on.

    Love and blessings!

  14. Honestly, my head's still not in a good place. My hubby and I were talking about 'things' on the way up to UAB this morning and truly fear for our nation. Not so much for he and I, but for our children and theirs.
    So glad your refrigerator woes have been resolved! It looks great! A couple of years back we went through a similar thing. I should be happy my hubby enjoys researching and comparing models, but no. I regard appliance shopping right up there with dental work. Ha!
