Little Questions Welcome to Tuesday 4 in memory of Toni Taddeo... Here are a little group of questions for you to ponder this week..
1 You have won a trip and can choose to go to Hawaii or Paris? Summer or winter?
Well, I really am not that interested in going to either place, but if I have to choose one, it would be Paris so that I can also add on a tour of places in Europe and the British Isles that I really want to see, like Germany, England, Scotland, Ireland...as these are the lands of my ancestry! As far as summer or winter, I guess summer, as I don't think it gets as hot there as it does here in Florida.
2 Little dog or big dog which do you prefer?
I prefer a larger dog for myself, like a Golden Retriever, Collie, or a Brittany or Springer Spaniel. We had a collie, "Laddie", when I was a little girl on the farm. He would take long walks with my mother and me each day as we walked down the lane to get the mail and back. I loved how on the farm we didn't have to worry about putting a leash on him or keeping him fenced in. He had plenty of land to roam without getting lost or in traffic. That would be my ideal situation if I had a dog. I would love a companion dog who could walk with me in the woods or across the fields and never have to be on a leash. However, I LOVE my two little grandpuppies, Sugar and Spice, who are sweet Pekingese. I love how excited they get when "Grandma" comes to visit!
3 Which TV/book/movie character do you identify with, and why?
This is my Madame Alexander "Anne of Green Gables" doll, which I inherited from my mother's collection of Madame Alexander dolls.
That would have to be Anne of Green Gables. Here is a LINK to a previous story about her and why. Also within that previous post you will find several other links to other previous posts about my connection to "Anne of Green Gables". You see, I was named after her...my middle name is "Anne" with an "e", and my mother named me that because I was a redhead and also because that was my mother's favorite story. I hope to someday go and visit Prince Edward Island and see the place where her story began. 4 What did you wish for last, like at your birthday or when throwing a coin into a fountain? Christmas wish list? Somethings that you need to buy?
I don't make specific wishes as such. If I did it would be for something like peace on earth or for certain ones to have their hearts changed or for someone to be healed of a bad disease, or to find a cure for cancer. However, something I need to buy is on my mind right now....we need to replace our refrigerator (again!). This one just isn't maintaining a cold enough temperature in the freezer and our ice cream is always soft, and then it often freezes our lettuce and other vegetables in the bottom. We had a new thermostat put in, and that did not solve the problem. We don't want to put more money into this refrigerator. I've been shopping for a new one, but they are very expensive and I can't find the exact one I want that will fit in the space in our kitchen and also meet other specific needs. There seems to be a shortage of appliances these days due to the virus, so they say. Something to do with manufacturing...or the fact that they are made in China.... Would like to find one made in the USA!
I also need to replace our favorite blanket on our bed. We have had this nice white thermal acrylic waffle weave blanket with a satin binding for probably 30 years. It is finally getting too worn and really needs to be replaced. So I went online to try and find another one like it, and apparently they don't make them like that anymore, at least not at a price I can afford! Now everything is microfiber fleece, etc., and I do NOT like those blankets. And I am not sure I want a cotton thermal blanket, because they may be too heavy or not the right texture to be comfortable. Wondering, what kinds of blankets do you prefer? Especially those of you who live in the south where we don't need wool blankets. I keep this particular blanket on year round as it is just the right weight and is comfortable in any season. We add flannel sheets and an extra blanket in winter as needed, but most of the time this is sufficient with a sheet under it. Any ideas?
I hope you have a blessed and beautiful day and week, dear friends.
"Oh, Marilla, looking forward to things is half the pleasure of them," exclaimed Anne. "You mayn't get the things themselves; but nothing can prevent you from having the fun of looking forward to them."
Anne of Green Gables
Thank you, Annie, from Cottage by the Sea, for this week's questions again. Please check out the other posts shared by other friends

while looking thru netflix I saw a current iteration of Anne of Green Gables I want to watch. I stayed on PEI one summer and visited the setting. Our fridge is doing that too... they cost so much. Blankets. I always had thermals til we got a microfiber (I hate the feel of the sheets but the blanket is wonderful now that it's been washed 10 times) from Khols. On sale, extra percent off. We have a king size. Nice answers. LeeAnna at not afraid of color
ReplyDeleteHi LeeAnna. Thank you for responding. How wonderful that you were able to stay on PEI for a summer! What a treat that must have been! If you do watch the netflix version of Anne of Green Gables, please let me know what you think of it afterwards. I tried to watch it, but I will reserve my comments for later. I would like to hear how you feel about it once you see it and then we could discuss it. Regarding microfiber...I bought a set of microfiber sheets and can't use them. they are too hot and also have too much static. Microfiber blankets, for some reason, are too hot at first, and then later I have the chills. I don't know why...they are not the right weight for me. I don't think I want one of those new "weighted blankets", but I need to find the blankie that is just right! I feel like Goldilocks! LOL. And I hope you can resolve your fridge issue too. I'm tired of soft ice cream and frozen lettuce!! They don't make them like they used to! They don't last longer than about 3 years nowadays!
DeleteI don't like the fleece blankets either as they slide off the bed. I use a sheet and a light cotton quilt in summer. In autumn I add a second quilt.. and for winter I have a super thick comforter that replaces the quilts. I would love to find a nice woolen blanket but they are super expensive now. Thermals are nice but decent ones are very hard to find. You might like Constant Comfort blankets from Vermont country store. They were developed by NASA. The Vermont Country Store has a lot of nice blankets.. none of them cheap however but worth looking at.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the thoughts and ideas regarding the blanket. I am checking with Vermont Country Store, but their queen size blankets are a bit pricey. I guess I am in sticker shock about how expensive a blanket could be. I may have to rethink this!
DeleteSweet story about Anne of Green Gables! I believe it was 1956 my parents took to me to PEI and bought me an "Anne" doll. Not sure whatever happened to it; but remembering my cavalier attitude about dolls, I suspect she met an untimely end.
ReplyDeleteHave you checked for the blankets you remember online? A favorite 'vintage' site is the Vermont Country Store, but they're a bit pricey. My current fav is the weighted blanket my son and DIL got me for Christmas. It's a bit warm for our Alabama summer season, but it seems to help with my achy hips and back.
How nice that you've been to PEI, but how sad you no longer have the doll! Me thinks you were too young to fully appreciate the experience and the value! :) I probably wouldn't have appreciated it back then either. Some things just come with age and "maturity". I am looking at the blankets at Vermont C.S., but yes, they are a bit pricey. I never knew a blanket could be so expensive! I'm glad the one we have has lasted so long. It must have been a good one! It was a gift, so I never knew it's value. Now I appreciate it more! It's just starting to break down from years of use and I hate to let it go, but eventually I will have no choice. Thank you for the visit and the advice!!
DeleteTrue, not many places are hotter than Florida with it's humidity. I like large and small dogs. I just find at my age now a small dog can be easier. Nice answers for #4.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am sure caring for a small dog would be easier. We do not have a dog ourselves, but we enjoy our grand-pups. That satisfies my need for a pet at this point. Not sure I can afford the vet bills to have one right now. Thank you for your visit. I hope you have a wonderful week.
DeleteI have a thin coverlet with a top sheet under it. Even in our cold climate that is usually just right for me. I guess, I'm glad now that i got a new fridge and range before Covid hit. Mine previous ones were over 25 years old.
ReplyDeleteAfter pricing blankets I am having to really think hard about this decision! I had no clue how much a nice blanket could cost. It's not something you buy every year. And appliances, yes, the older ones lasted so much longer. The newer ones you are lucky if they last 5 years, and they are more expensive to repair than to replace. If I could find an older Refrigerator out there still in good working condition that looked good too, I would be tempted to buy it because I know it would last longer than a new one. It's very frustrating. I just pray this one doesn't totally quit before we can figure this out! Have a blessed and wonderful day.
DeleteGreat idea to look at used Pamela. Check out the 2nd hand appliance stores and read up on the model you might want to buy. These are probably much better than buying a new cheaper one if you can even find one.
DeleteI live in the south and use a woven cotton blanket (more of a waffle weave than thermal). That with a comforter is enough even on the coldest winter days.
ReplyDeleteI am an Anne with an E also but was not named for Anne of Green Gables. Your story was very sweet
The cotton blanket is probably what I am going to have to go with. I hope it will feel right and be cozy enough. I just can't believe they don't make the other blankets anymore. Must have something to do with something, but who knows what? So nice to meet you, Anne with an E!!
DeleteTake me to Hawaii, but only if the flight is short! (I don't like the idea of flying over so much water for so many hours!).
ReplyDeleteDogs: we have had 5 dogs in our nearly 50 years of marriage. A "Heinz 57" (mixed breed from the pet store), a Beagle, a Basset, and two Cocker Spaniels. I loved the Basset and Cockers the most.
As for blankets. You are so right about how impossible it is to find that kind of blanket these days. I have no solutions for you and will be interested to see how this problem plays out. Keep us posted.
I guess there would be a long flight to France also over many waters! But that would still be better than taking a ship! Titanic rings in my brain too much! LOL. We have also had a beagle (I did before marriage), a heinz 57, a collie, and a Brittany Spaniel. Loved them all, but we just aren't good dog people. We like to be free to go when we want to go and not be so tied down. I may have found a solution for the blanket, but I will wait and tell you in another post when it is final. Not exactly what I wanted, but hopefully a good replacement.
DeleteOh, boy, Pamela, I don't envy you having to buy a new refrigerator! We've had our stainless steel Maytag for 12 years; it says it was assembled in the USA, but there's no telling where the parts actually came from. Danny says the main thing to look for is an Energy Star model which will save on your energy bill. Oh, and Anne of Green Gables is one of my all time favorites! Maybe, it's time for a walk down memory lane with that series.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
If you've had your refrigerator for 12 years consider yourself blessed and try to keep it going as long as you can. The newer ones rarely last longer than 5 years if that. And the parts come from China. I am hoping that will change, but that is probably why we can't get what we want right now as they are out of stock in every store I've checked. And I refuse to spend over 1500.00 for a refrigerator that won't last any longer. Trying to keep it under 1000., but that is becoming very difficult to do. Maybe we just have to give up ice cream and lettuce. LOL
DeleteAnne of Green Gables, another on of my favorites characters. My youngest daughter has Ann with an e for a middle name too. This virus is causing issues with everything, just keep on looking and surely the fridge you want will show up somewhere. Like you, we don't like heavy blankets, the thermal and fleece are just too much. I have an matelasse coverlet that I use for our blanket, it's just right.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what the matelasse coverlet is, but it sounds fancy! I may have found a solution, but I will let you know when I am sure about it. I just never knew finding a blanket that I like would be so difficult! Oh, I love that your daughter is also an "Anne" with an e for her middle name. That's so sweet!! Have a blessed week.
DeleteI have used matelasse (cotton) coverlets and I love them. This would probably work for you Pamela if you cannot find another solutions.
DeleteHi, I have a very lightweight down alternative comforter that I use summer and winter and it is just enough and is easy to wash.dry. I have had two dogs in my life, both small, but I love all animals! There is no where far away I wish to travel but I would love to be able to take day trips again one day, your doll is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will be able to do some day trips again soon, Mildred. I know that would brighten your day as well as your hubby. Praying that works out when he is feeling better. I've never had a down comforter...you say alternative, does that mean it isn't real down? Just wondering since it is washable. Thank you for visiting. I'm glad you like my doll. That is the one doll I definitely wanted from my mother's collection because of that connection with Anne of GG. She makes me smile.
DeleteWhat an interesting post, Pam. At some point, I'm going to have to read the Anne of Green Gables books. It seems like they might be on my to "read some day list".
ReplyDeleteLife is full of surprises and challenges!
Love and blessings!
Oh, Kim, I am sorry you've never read the Anne of GG books. Did you ever see the tv programs/video of her story? If you do, be sure to get the older 1985 version with Megan Follows as Anne. That is the best series. The newer one on Netflix I did not like at all. But the original series was such fun and great acting. I hope you will put it on your list to either read the books or see the movies. (There is a series).
DeleteI enjoyed your answers to Annie's fun questions today, Pam. I have no advice about a new thermal blanket but sure hope you find what you need!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri. I may have resolved the blanket issue, but I will tell about it in the future after I am sure about it...Never thought trying to find a new blanket could be such a challenge! Obviously, if I haven't bought one in 30 years (and that one was actually a gift), it's no wonder I'm clueless! LOL.
DeleteI enjoyed your answers Pamela especially where you would travel between Hawaii and Paris. If you ever do get to Paris don't go in August when it does get very hot and probably so many other tourists are there. Personally I would go in off season. I went in January and I liked it as the weather was not cold and it was perfect for walking and far fewer tourists. It was interesting to me that you were named after Anne E. as there is a Canadian connection. I haven't even been to PEI myself though I have travelled much of Canada. Last time I travelled east it was through Quebec and part of NB going south. I wanted to stop in PEI but to save time we headed through a short cut through NB to get to NJ and NY. As for replacing the blanket on your bed I would recommend cotton because you live in such a hot climate and I am not sure about your winter weather but maybe it's humid?
ReplyDeleteI am in love with your story about Anne of Green Gables. That is just so cool! Loved your answers! Have a nice week.

I love your Anne girl...she is beautiful and of course one of my favorite books and movies. We have the white waffle weave with the satin trim too. It's not quite that old but I hate to think they don't make them any more. It is SO perfect for Florida weather! I guess I should look around and see what I can find. I like the things that work...and don't know why they quit making them. Enjoy your day. It's foggy here this morning! Hugs!
