Friday Foto Friends ~ The Colors of October!

Writing this on Thursday evening, October 1st, 2020! Today is the first day of October, and it really feels like autumn here in Florida! Yesterday and today we started out around 57 degrees, and it stayed in the high 70's most of the day, with very low humidity and lots of sunshine! A perfect beginning for the month of October! I finally got a pumpkin at our local grocery store, and that added to the mums makes for a lovely fall splash of color in our front yard!

The Holly Berries are a perfect fall burnt orange -red, and this mockingbird was finding them very tasty!!

I know you've seen this little tiny dragonfly several times before, but he just keeps getting prettier every time I see him. He is all decked out in fall colors to bedazzle us!

Isn't he amazing?

I believe this is called the "Florida Paintbrush" and it is blooming so beautifully right now in places along the road:

They are tall and delicate and so very pretty

I wanted to pick a bouquet, but decided not to. They are attracting butterflies and bees and they need to stay outside and be beautiful for all to see.

Meanwhile, here's some more fall colors inside:

My mother made these placemats for me many many years ago, when our boys were still little. She put this cute cartoon pattern on the backside to use for the kids to make their table fun too. Since my boys are all in their 40's now, that tells you how old these must be!

The little blue and white teapot and demitasse cups were a birthday present:
(and the "grateful" plate was a gift to myself from the Dollar Tree)

Did you know that if you mix Candy Corn and peanuts it will taste like a PayDay candybar? Try it sometime. It really does.  The Jasmine Tea was also a birthday gift. I haven't tried it yet, but intend to do so soon.

The "Bless this Home" towel/pot holder set was also a gift from my sweet daughter in love.
Yes, God has truly blessed this home with such precious ones!

Added a plaid woolen throw blanket to this chair to make it more cozy for chilly mornings...

While I was writing this post, this is what was happening outside my window:

The skies started out very golden and bright...

And then the colors just kept getting richer and richer moment by moment

These pictures do not do it justice.

Matthew 16:1-4
1.  Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven.
2.  "(Jesus) answered and said to them, "When it is evening you say,
'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red';
3.  And in the morning, 'It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.'
Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times.
4.  A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign,
and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah."

Some food for thought in these difficult times. The Pharisees and Sadducees had no clue what He was talking about...their eyes were so blinded by their hatred and jealousy of Him. They did not know that Jesus had come to save them, and that the "sign of Jonah" would be when He spent three days in the tomb, just like Jonah spent three days in the belly of the great fish.  They did not know that after they crucified Him, Jesus would spring forth from the grave on the third day and conquer death and all its foes.  The devil is still scratching his head over that one and wondering how he could have missed that "sign".

Let us not be like the Pharisees and Sadduccees. I hope we will recognize the "signs of the times" and be ever ready for the Lord's return. We don't want to be left behind scratching our heads and wondering how we could have missed it. The consequences will be eternal.

Fall is the time of harvest.
May we be busy in our work of the great harvest while there is yet time.

This is an old family picture on my Grandpa Tedlie's farm many years ago. The boys on the hay wagon are my older cousins, and the girl on the horse is another of my cousins. The two women walking are my Grandmother and my Aunt Belle. This must have been in the late 40's or very early 50's.

Have a blessed and beautiful fall weekend and October!

  3. That's the most beautiful dragonfly that I have ever seen. They were never a fan of mine because my grandmother would tell me whenever one came close to me that I had been caught lying again and he would sew my lips shut. Good heavens! What a thing to tell a child. 😏

That is a great vintage photo of the harvest. Did you ever get involved, too? I never did any haying, but those in the family who have describe it as a highlight of summer and "fun."

    1. Oh those "old wives' tales"! You are right, "what a think to tell a child!" Geepers. I'd be in BIG trouble as we have so many dragonflies around here! LOL. As far as the harvest picture, that was taken several years before I was born, or at least I was a baby if anything. My grandparents weren't farming anymore by the time I came along. And also, I was born on a farm in PA., but we left when I was almost 6. I do remember riding on top of the hay on the hay wagon when I was about 3 or 4, and I fell off and knocked the wind out of me, but I survived to tell about it (and cry about it too I am sure!) So that is my farm experience! LOL.

  4. Such beauty in nature! God's creativity is breathtaking. I wanted to thank you for the kind words on my post about my son's birthday and for your encouragement about the blog changes. I thank God at each thought of you! Have a blessed and happy Friday!

    1. Oh how sweet you are Stacy! I just pray you can be reconciled to your son soon. I know you may not be able to make that happen on your own, but I am sure you are praying for it to happen, and that is the first step. God will work it out. Having lost a son from this earth I know how important it is to be sure we are always ready to forgive and be forgiven, and sometimes we have to take the first step. Thankfully our son is in heaven and we will see him again, but I am so glad there was nothing separating us (except distance) while here on earth. Life is so short...we just can't let things linger like that. Sorry, not preaching at you, but encouraging you to do whatever it takes to initiate the first step. God bless you dear friend. (((hugs))).

    2. No, you aren't preaching. We do what we can. We still send a text here and there, comment on Facebook posts that aren't offensive, and we do send cards or try to call, but he refuses to respond.

  5. Borrowing from John Denver, your photos "fill up my senses"! I think my mother and yours must have had the same placemats pattern. The fabric is different -- faded, too, but I still use them. Your first image makes me want to run right over to the Farmers Market. Have yourself a sweet day!

    1. Oh, thank you, Myra. Now I am singing that song too! LOL. We must have had smart Mama's who thought a lot alike...seeing your crystal and glass dishes that you inherited from her tells me our mothers came out of the same mold! We were both blessed if that is the case! Now, go get that pumpkin and some mums right away before they are all gone! :)

  6. Love your mums and pumpkin (I still have to get a pumpkin or two). Okay, I've added pumpkin and candy corn to my shopping list. lol

Hasn't the sky just been beautiful lately (of course, it is a lot of the time). Just seems extra special lately. Love you photos. And that dragonfly!!!! God just really shows off for you and you take the best pictures to share with us. Thank you

    Have a blessed weekend.

    1. Thank you, Cathy. I am so thankful for the pictures that I am able to get with God's help. Sometimes things that I don't think will be all that good turn out to be the best, and vice versa! The camera becomes an open window to behold God's beauty and share it with the rest of the world. I am so thankful for that gift! And yes, get that pumpkin and the candy corn...and some peanuts too! Try them together...they are really good that way.

  7. You get the most beautiful sunsets there, Pam! Love the old photo of the hay wagon and your cousins! Farmers had to work a lot harder back then than they do now with most of the work automated. I love the quilted placemats your mom made for you and your Fall arrangement in the front yard is so pretty!

    1. Thank you, Terri. Lately the sunsets have been just amazing! God is really putting on quite a show for us! Yes, the farmers did have to work really hard back then. However, most any farmer today still has to work pretty hard on a much bigger scale. And they have to be really smart too! We don't give our farmers enough credit in this country! Where would we be without them? Thank you for your kind words about the placemats, etc. I love using them because they remind me of my mom. They have stains on them that I can't wash out (mostly tea stains, like everything else I own), but that just shows they've been well loved. Have a blessed weekend.

    1. Sunset...we see the sunset in the west from our back porch over the pond. The sunrise is in the front yard, but there are too many trees in the way to get a very good view until the sun is up too high. Once in a while I can get a nice picture if it is very colorful. I should just jump in the car and drive down the road until I can find a good place to take a picture of the sunrise, but by the time I do that the sun will be up too high! LOL. Thank you regarding the coziness. Some people call it clutter. But I like cozy! Thank you.
