Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Saturday Wanderings
Hello! It's Saturday and I've been wandering around a little...how about you?
Yes, that moose is walking on Still Waters Pond, with the dove of peace flying overhead. So can you beat that? Have you seen or done anything more interesting than that today? LOL. (Yes, it is a moose on a windchime, hanging from our porch...just a little trick photography to make life more interesting).
To start the day off I used my best homemaking skills to bake some wonderful cinnamon rolls in an iron skillet in the oven. Yes, I really worked very hard to pop open that can of poppin' fresh rolls and fit them just so in the skillet.
They did turn out quite well, and I used my new potholders that were birthday gifts from my very thoughtful daughter in love last month. I thought I should take a picture of them before they get stained and dirty when I really start baking again! LOL.
Cinnamon rolls deserve to be treated like something special, so I ate mine on the porch overlooking Still Waters Pond. Actually, this was my "after breakfast" roll. I had already eaten one with my scrambled eggs and sausage and tea earlier, but thought they deserved a little better attention so out to the porch we went. My Dollar Tree "Grateful" plate has been getting a workout during these autumn days...and I am very grateful to have these lovely days to enjoy.
So, on Saturday mornings we like to take a little ride somewhere and do something different. We kind of got off to a late start this morning, what with me doing all that "baking" and enjoying an extra cinnamon roll on the porch. LOL.
"You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore."
Psalm 16:11 NKJV
Therefore, since we didn't want to take too long of a trip, we decided to go visit our church's Thrift Store and see what interesting things we could find there. Plus, we like to visit with the shopkeeper, a sweet man who is a member of our church and who also has a ministry in his home to former prisoners who have been released and need a place to stay until they can get back on their feet. He's a tremendous person with a big heart, and we enjoy visiting with him. So while he and hubby chatted, I browsed.
(This photo is copied from the internet, so it isn't as clear as I'd like, but it is better than nothing. Next time I go there I will take some better pictures of this cute little old vintage house that sits next to the church and houses our Thrift Store. I love the sign out front that has II Chronicles 7:14 quoted...
"If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land."
Such an appropriate verse for our country these days...
Anyway, I found some beautiful vintage dishes today that I just couldn't resist. I know I don't need any more dishes, but I love vintage plates and have decided I am going to use these kinds of plates for our everyday use rather than the old "made in China" plates that I've been using. I'm tired of using anything that is "made in China"...and besides these are much prettier. I only found these two dinner plates, but I have some others that are similar that I am going to mix and match with these.
Also got the lovely bowl and a couple of dessert plates. Too bad they didn't have any teacups and saucers to match, but I found some in my cupboard that are close enough.
Even though it was a bit too warm this afternoon to consider eating on the porch, it was fun to dress up the table and pretend I was having a party for two long enough to take these pictures.
Maybe later this week it is supposed to cool down some and then we can actually have dinner on the porch.
"Be very careful, then, how you live~~not as unwise but as wise,
making the most of every opportunity."
Ephesians 5:15-16 NIV
Aren't they beautiful? (The teapot and sugar bowl are something I already had).
All this loveliness for a donation to our church Thrift Store, which supports several worthy ministries in our church and community. I'd say it was money well spent. Want to come and have lunch on the porch with me some day when it is cooler? I wish you could!
It would be so lovely to have you here!
"You shall say, 'Have a long life, peace be to you,
and peace be to your house, and peace be to all that you have.'"
I Samuel 25:6 NAS
Have a wonderful weekend my friends!

Walked about Edinburgh near where I was brought up this afternoon; a few memories about.
ReplyDelete"Confide in Jehovah, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on faithfulness", Psalm 37: 3.
Welcome to my blog, David. Thank you for joining us today. I can imagine that Edinburgh would be a lovely place to visit. Perhaps you could share some pictures! Thank you for stopping in!
DeleteBeautiful! I can see why you couldn't resist them! It's been beautiful here today too--at least it has been in the backyard where it is much cooler in the shade! It's a little noisy out there though with the constant banging of the acorns on the porch roof!! Somehow I didn't get hit on the head, thank God--because it hurts!lol
ReplyDeleteHello Sis!! One of these days you must come and have tea and crumpets with me on the porch! We could have such fun! Yes, I have heard the acorns...they are really plentiful this year! The squirrels should be happy. Yes, glad they didn't hit you in the head! Thank you for visiting here...but you know you can come visit in person anytime!!!
DeleteThese dishes you selected are gorgeous, Pam! You have impeccable taste, and yes, I'd love to sit with you and have tea on your porch one day, God willing. I love the fact that your church runs a thrift store so that the proceeds can help missions and people in the community. May the remainder of your weekend be as beautiful as the photos and thoughts you've shared here today!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Thank you, Martha! Oh, wouldn't we have a great time sitting and visiting and watching the squirrels? I think of you when I see the squirrels out here in the trees (and bird feeder). Yes, our little Thrift Store helps in a lot of ways. Many times people who are in need of clothes or things can just come and get what they need w/o charge. The prices are so low anyway they practically give it away, but what funds do come in go right back out to help people. It's a wonderful ministry. And the people who volunteer to run it are there to oftentimes counsel people who need it. God works in many wonderful ways. Thank you for stopping in for a visit today. Always so wonderful to visit with you.
DeletePretty dishes. I am also not buying anything made in China. Table on the porch looks very pretty!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Annie. I wish you could come down and have a tea party with me on the porch! We could look at the pond and compare our phragmites with your phragmites! LOL. I wonder if people will wonder what we're talking about! Yes, I've had some sunflower plates that were a gift to us many years ago when we moved to Kansas, "The Sunflower State", for a brief stint. I've used them for everyday dishes most of the time, but they were made in China, and my son who lives with us says they are probably not healthy for us to use. Not sure about that as we have used them for 25 years and we are still healthy, but even so, with so many beautiful old vintage dishes around that were made in the USA I have decided to start weeding out the made in China stuff and replacing with made in the USA. The thing I have to remember, however, is that these vintage dishes are most likely not microwave safe and probably also shouldn't be put in the dishwasher. I'm fine with that, but someone else may come along, not knowing, and try to put one in the microwave or DW. So I must pay attention! Oh, well, I am going to enjoy these dishes as long as I can. Have a blessed and beautiful day!
DeleteYour new dishes are beautiful, Pam! What a great find! The cinnamon rolls look delicious!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri. I think I am going to enjoy using them, even though they probably are not DW safe or Microwave safe...I think we'll survive. And those Pillsbury cinnamon rolls aren't bad when you are craving cinnamon rolls and don't have time to bake them from scratch and have no where to go where they make them. I hope you have a lovely Sunday!
DeleteThose dishes are so pretty. Yes, yes, yes, I want to come have lunch with you. What did I do today? Not very much. It's been a lazy day.
ReplyDeletePlease do come! We'd have such fun. Be sure to bring your camera and we'll go exploring! Sometimes a lazy day is just what we need to refuel! Hope today is beautiful and special for you!
DeleteHi there Pam, Oh, I've seen that pattern before......and LOVED IT! If I'd saw these in a thrift shop....I would've bought them too! So pretty. I'll pack up Tansy and I'll have Diane pack up some of her dolls too....and we'll all be over for a tea party on your pretty porch with your pretty new china, LOL. I liked yesterday's post too....I just know I WOULD NOT be brave enough to get out in that kayak....I am sure I would tip the whole thing plum over and I'd be STUCK. HA HA LOL You are very brave. Any signs of gators there?
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Debbie! I was thrilled at how pretty these dishes looked when I got them home and on my porch table! Wish there had been more of them! But there is enough for two of us to enjoy, and I have plenty of others to mix and match. Yes, by all means bring Tansy and if we can talk Diane into coming with her dollies, we could have a tea party with our dolls on the porch on a cooler day! That would be such fun. No, I've not seen any gators in our pond, and I pray they never find out about it. Sometimes birds will drop eggs or babies in water as they fly over, so I just pray that never happens to our little pond. And trust me, I am very careful about tipping that thing over. I definitely do not want to fall into that pond. The bottom is rather mucky and the water is dark and I can't see what's under there, so I pray that never happens. It isn't very deep, but it's just the thought of the "unknown" that concerns me! LOL. Have a wonderful day my friend. 'Y'all come!"
DeleteWell...I'd prefer your breakfast of sausage eggs and your finger scrapping cinnamon rolls when I stop by to chat with you!! And, please serve it all on those vintage plates. Made in USA.
ReplyDeleteBtw, loved the moose in your yard! (Wink)
I will fix you anything you'd like if you came all the way here for a visit, and I would definitely serve it on those vintage plates, made in the U.S.A.! And the moose is very special. We used to live in NH and Maine, where we really did have a moose walk through our yard occasionally. This windchime was created especially for us by a friend of ours, in memory of our son Matthew, who lived in Maine and who had actually gone on a successful moose hunt with his son. So a moose is a fitting animal to have walking across our pond. Anything is possible!!
DeleteSuch pretty dishes and they look so nice with your tablecloth. I love church thrift stores. Such a wonderful ministry in many different ways. Lots of win here overnight. Have a blessed day
ReplyDeleteDid you mean lots of "wind"? I hope all is well now and that nothing serious happened. I am glad you like my dishes and tablecloth. Come on down and we will have a tea party with them. Thank you for visiting. I always love to hear from you. Hope you are doing well.
DeleteBeautiful, Pamela. I'll be right over, grin. Have a lovely Sunday my friend.
ReplyDeleteCome on down! You know I'd be thrilled!!! I hope you are having a lovely Sunday too. Thinking of you and praying for "relief"!!!
DeleteWhat a delightful table setting! My DIL will sometimes bring home 'forgotten treasure' from estate sales and the like. I never made it to visit Chalet Suzanne in Lake Wales, but heard one of their 'quirks' was table settings of old, mis-matched tableware.
ReplyDeleteI've got those same Dollar Tree autumnal plates! (Only someone forgot to add the word, 'Grateful' on mine.)
Oh, you must go back to the Dollar Tree and tell them you want them to put the "grateful" back on the plates! These are the smaller ones. I think the larger ones did not have any writing...only the dessert size, because, of course, we are most grateful for the dessert! LOL. Yes, I like the idea of using table settings of old, mismatched tableware. I am starting to collect a few of these to do just that here. I'm tired of the same old same old that I've been using for hundreds of years, and I'd like to use something that someone else used for hundreds of years instead! LOL. I'm kind of "quirky" like that myself.
DeletePam, your Saturday looked like it was relaxing, refreshing, and renewing. The cinnamon rolls look yummy--and from what I've heard, it's not easy to open those cans of rolls. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice ministry your church has in a thrift store. There are churches around here that have similar type of ministries. And the dishes you found are so neat!
It would be so nice to come and enjoy a visit and some tea with you. For now, we'll just have to communicate in other ways.
Love and blessings!
Well, Kim, please know you are always welcome here if you decide to take a trip! We would have a lovely time I am sure, and I can show you how to open a "poppin' fresh can of cinnamon rolls". LOL. Have you never tried them? They are such fun, and they really aren't too bad for a little extra treat now and then.
DeleteClever, clever you with the moose walking on the water and the peace dove over his head! You make me smile!
ReplyDeleteI love your 'new' dishes. Such a lovely table setting. You are getting a lot of enjoyment out of your newly-covered back deck. I am so glad.
Ha Ha, Barbara...Yes, that moose is enjoying his lovely home "on the water". LOL. I can see him from my "room with a view" window, and he brings a smile to my face all day long. So glad you like my new dishes. Next time you and Tom come, if the weather is decent, we will have to sit out there and enjoy them!
DeleteIt sounds like you had a wonderful Saturday. I really love your new plates and I think they look beautiful out on the patio. I agree with your idea to spruce up your dining setting for every day use. We should live each day as abundantly as we are able and abundance does not have to be expensive. Enjoy your week ahead. xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Penny. It was a wonderful day and I enjoyed having a new "perspective" on dining. Sometimes it is fun to do things a little differently just to keep things interesting! And yes, especially when they are not costly in anyway, and my purchase actually benefitted others. So that is a 'win-win' in my book! Hope you have a blessed week as well.
DeleteMost of all I love Psalm 16:11 in your post (but also all the other stuff, Pamela). How was your Sunday?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Aritha. So glad you came for a visit. My Sunday was beautiful...with church in the morning to celebrate and worship the Lord with our fellow believers...always the highlight of my week. Lunch with friends afterwards, and then a peaceful, quiet afternoon at home...always a blessing. How about yours?
DeleteThose rolls look yummy and yes girl, that can of rolls will fit nicely in a skillet! Cute pot holders too. You had me at dishes!!!! Oh LAWD, help me! Love them! I have really tried to refrain from buying more dishes and thankfully I have not been thrifting but once and all I found was some cute napkins that came home with me. Don't you just love it that the Dollar Tree has some cute dishes! I love those! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteYes, I think the I saw the "grateful" dishes on your site first and went to the Dollar Tree to get some. I just bought two, one for me and one for hubby or a guest as I don't have a lot of room to store these things all year long. But the "new to me" dishes at the Thrift Store I am using and may send some of my others that I am tired of to the Thrift Store. I don't feel bad buying something that benefits others, at least that is my justification if anyone asks me! LOL. Thank you, Cindy. You always brighten my day.
