Happy First Day of Autumn!

Happy Saturday!!  I hope you are enjoying a lovely weekend wherever you are! Especially since this is the first official day of Autumn!  I was thrilled that the temperature when we woke up this morning was 62 degrees!!! Now that was lovely!!!  For us here in Florida, we get really happy when the temperatures start dipping down in the 60's!!

I've been looking for signs of fall, and I took this picture the other day as I looked across Still Waters Pond to see the darker clouds forming above the white clouds, and I thought it looked like a snowcapped mountain. The leaves on the tree in front of it are kinds of turning orange...it is a maple tree, and for us here in Florida this is what fall looks like!

Here's another picture of that same spot as the clouds got bigger and looked more formidable. We did actually have a thunderstorm a few minutes later, and thankfully we got lots and lots of rain! We needed it!  So very thankful to have it, because it's gone back to being dry and sunny again today and will be for a while...

After the rain I noticed this lone Sand Hill Crane standing over there on the other side of the pond. When I zoomed in to take this picture I discovered there was also a male Wood Duck swimming nearby!

In the next photo the duck was gone, but the crane was curling his neck around and making an interesting pose. I am wondering why he's alone...not sure if this is one of our little family we've been watching all year or another one...time will tell.  Interesting he's standing on one leg.

We've been seeing the bluebird couple fly in every so often. They don't go in the birdhouse because it isn't nesting time yet, but they seem to like to hang around the neighborhood for old time's sake I guess. Of course we always enjoy seeing them no matter what the season!

Yesterday was a lovely morning as well, and so we took a little ride down the road to another boat ramp park on a different part of the Ocklawaha River/lake, similar to where we were last week , but this place is called Orange Springs.  The first thing I noticed were these amazing oak  trees blowing in the breeze with the sun shining through the moss covered branches...Aren't they gorgeous?

This is a great example to me of the verses from Isaiah 55:12

12 “For you shall go out with joy,
And be led out with peace;
The mountains and the hills
Shall break forth into singing before you,
And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands."

And here's some photos of the actual Orange Springs Boat Ramp...

Oh, there's a Great Blue Heron hiding over there in the bushes along the shore...

Hopefully we didn't disturb her hunting for dinner...

Even though these photos are not very "fallish" for the first day of Autumn, it is typical of fall in Florida, at least this early. We will see some changes as the months go by, but the main thing is the weather is getting cooler and we are thankful!

"The grass withers, the flower fades,
But the word of our God stands forever.”
Isaiah 40:8

  1. We've been in the low sixties every morning this week, Pamela, and it has been delightful! Thanks for the gorgeous photos, too. God's creation is always rejoicing, isn't it?
Blessings for a wonderful Fall ahead!

  2. Good morning, Pamela! The birds are good to see especially herons. I've not seen one in awhile. I remember seeing one a few years ago when I was driving to work. There were two white doves in our big tree yesterday. I grabbed my actual camera to get photos of birds but only got 2. It's very cloudy this morning and rain sometime today 1st day of autumn 🍂. I remember seeing brownish leaves that fell on the ground at the wedding we were at last Saturday. One fell in my daughter's hat she wore. I pulled it off 🤪 her hat. I appreciate your comments on my blog as well. Hugs and blessings, Becky

  3. Like you, I am very thankful for the cooler weather we are having. I wore long sleeves and long pants to ride my bike this morning.

  5. Yes, thank the good Lord, it's begun to cool down. Even our dogs are visibly enthused where, just a couple months ago, they just do their 'business' and want back inside. With apologies to Andy Williams, "THIS is the most wonderful time of the year"!

  6. I just read Isaiah 55:12 yesterday. I enjoyed all your pictures. We are like you as far as the weather. We were in the 70's last week and this week it will be in the 80's. But that is still cool weather for us. We are use to 90's and higher this time of the year.

  7. Great photos, Pam!! We didn't have 60s this morning but the humidity has been much lower making the temps feel much better! Blessings!!

  8. The temps fluctuate here in Indiana. I have tried to sit on our front porch each day now that it is cooler. The trees across the street from us are changing color a bit more each day. I felt under the weather today, so I didn't go out for my "porch time.: Peace and blessings to you and yours.

  9. Although our temps are much cooler than they were a month ago, it's so humid and still warm enough that the A/C went back on today after being about to have it shut off all week. But, I'm thankful to have it so we can sleep better.
Thank you for all of these gorgeous photos. They make me feel almost like I've been camping somewhere peaceful and green.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  12. You can really see the seasons changing with the pond in your back yard. We've seen lots of bluebirds in our yard this week and a few neat sightings on our hikes. Happy Fall my friend! Enjoy your Sunday!

  13. I see your Fall - it's coming!

I'm not seeing any Fall yet - we'd have to go up to higher elevations. We do have a Fall here in Northern California. The weather so far can't make up its mind - although I heard we may get some rain this week. The temps have sure cooled down to the H70's. I'm loving it. I can open my windows and its still warm in the sun. Very nice weather.
