- The other day as I sat in the Secret Garden, it seemed as though several different messages were running around in my head at once. It was becoming difficult for me to zero in on exactly what the Lord was trying to show me so that it could be shared with you.
- I was troubled about a friend who appeared to be turning back to a life he had left behind...a life that was leading him further and further away from God and a godly life, and my heart was burdened for this very fragile and vulnerable soul. And as I sat there tossing these thoughts and scripture verses back and forth in my mind, I asked the Lord to help me put it all into perspective and into a cohesive message that would make sense. I prayed, "Lord, help me to be faithful to report all that YOU instruct me to do, not just for this one person, but for anyone who may be struggling."
Unless a person totally escapes from the sins that bind them, it won't be long until they turn back to folly, There is only one way that I know of to be set totally free from the bondage of sin. And that is to let Jesus totally dig it up and out of our hearts and destroy it completely at the roots, and to be washed clean by His precious blood that was shed for each of us on Calvary. To allow Christ to set us free requires us to repent...turn away from...renounce...the sin that so easily besets us. To surrender ourselves freely to God and let Him set us free.
- And then there can be no turning back! One of the verses that kept repeating in my mind was when Jesus told His disciples, "Remember Lot's wife!" (Luke 17:32) If you recall the story of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19, you will remember that the Angel of the Lord told Lot and his family in Genesis 19:17:
- "Escape for your life!
- Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain.
- Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed."
- So, my prayer today is not only for my friend who is struggling with unwise choices in his life, but for anyone who may be teetering on the brink of turning back to the life left behind...the lure of the world can be very enchanting...drawing you away from the straight and narrow path that leads to life and heaven. "Remember Lot's wife!" Don't look back! Keep your eyes focused straight ahead on Jesus and the new life He offers you...the freedom from sin and bondage. Let Him dig up and destroy the roots of sin that seek to entrap you.
- I have decided to follow Jesus;I have decided to follow Jesus;I have decided to follow Jesus; No turning back, no turning back.
- Though I may wander, I still will follow;Though I may wander, I still will follow;Though I may wander, I still will follow; No turning back, no turning back.
- The world behind me, the cross before me;The world behind me, the cross before me;The world behind me, the cross before me;No turning back, no turning back.
- Though none go with me, still I will follow;Though none go with me, still I will follow;Though none go with me, still I will follow; No turning back, no turning back.
- Will you decide now to follow Jesus? Will you decide now to follow Jesus? Will you decide now to follow Jesus? No turning back, no turning back.
Your posts always hit the spot with me.
ReplyDeleteI love this:
14. "Awake, you who sleep,
Arise from the dead,
And Christ will give you light."
There is a version that says: Arise O sleeper and wake from the dead, for the light shines upon you.
It is so triumphant!
Amen!! "Victory in Jesus, my Savior forever! He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood!!!" We can have complete victory in Christ when we let Him shine His light upon us! Thank you for these thoughts today! You have such a way of making truth so simple and profound!
DeleteHello Pam,
ReplyDeleteI don't know how I've managed to do this, but somehow I've missed about the last week's worth of posts. I've been staying busy here around the house, but didn't realize I'd missed so many. Anyway, I am all caught up now on what is going on in your part of Florida.
Thank you, my friend, for the way you share God's Word. Surely He's blessed you with the gift of teaching, for I always learn something, or am convicted, or draw closer to Him as I read each post here.
I enjoyed seeing how the birds took to the bird bath, once you moved back into the house. They must have been just waiting for you to leave. What a great amount of critters you have...variety from birds to bears and a lot of others in between.
I also loved seeing your family working together on the demo project. That new section of fence and gate are amazing. Great job, Steiner family! I loved seeing the pictures of you in there with your hammer. But you do realize that you make the rest of us women look bad...how in the world do you get into a project like that and still manage to look so good...your hair never looks messed up, etc.
I also enjoy your sense of humor...more than once this evening in reading back over all these posts I laughed out loud more than once. :)
Have a wonderful remainder to your week! xx
Ha Ha Ha!!! If you could see my hair now...(bed-head!), and of course I always make sure I position myself just so when my picture is being taken, so you can't see my rooster tail cowlick in the back of my head...and of course the tummy tucks, etc., Ha Ha Ha! Thank you for your kind words. And I am glad you found the humor in my little stories. Sometimes we have to laugh to keep from screaming. :) I hope your day and week are filled with joy and laughter as you enjoy your home and family and all the special things you do each day. Love to you my friend!
DeleteI loved reading this and especially how you saw the tree tangled in the vine and could liken it to a person bound by sin. Awesome analogy and wonderful lesson for us!
ReplyDeleteThank you Terri, for seeing this and "getting it". Sometimes I don't get it until God redirects me over and over again...and finally I say, "Oh, NOW I get it! Thank you Lord!" But then to write it all down without writing a book so I can share it with you all...that's the tricky part! Thank you for being a bright spot and a faithful friend! Have a blessed day today!
DeleteWhen I read your title, that song came to my mind..I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back. Great comparison Pamela of the vines and bush.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sylvia. That was purely from God! I was just the messenger...and trying to figure it out for myself...and He showed me the message He wanted to convey! Thank you, Jesus!
DeleteYour post entries are always such a blessing to me and lift me up. I thank The Lord for getting to know you dear Pamela. Have a day of blessings my friend.
ReplyDeleteOh Thank you Toni! I feel honored to be your friend...and you are such a blessing to me as well! I pray you are feeling well and starting to see some real signs of spring where you are.
DeleteThis is a very thoughtful and encouraging post. It is hard for me to see the triggers in my own life that cause me to get off track. We all need fellow believers to pray for us and speak life.
ReplyDeleteOh yes...so do I. I wish I had the courage to share this message with my friend. I can only pray somehow he'll see it, or that God will just get through to him because others are now praying too. We do need to encourage and exhort one another more and more as we see the day of the Lord approaching!! Thank you for always speaking truth and life in your posts. You are a blessing.
DeletePam, Thank you for your obedience to the Lord in sharing this post. Your word picture of the tree being tangled by vines is a great way to describe how sin entangles us. It's hard to see what to do when we're in the thick of things--in allowing Jesus to set us free.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
