Here are the guys putting up the new sections of the fence
Hubby making sure things are "on the level"...
Looks pretty good! Quite an improvement already!
Next came my project...building the gate! I thought my son the carpenter was going to do this, but he's been pretty busy with other jobs and really didn't have time to devote to this...and we couldn't let it go without a gate for long...
So here I am marking the slats so we know where to fasten them to the back cross pieces. We are totally winging this...no pattern...just figuring it out as we go...
Thank goodness hubby knew how to work the drill....
So we got our part done...and now it's back to the sons' turn to install the gate....had to wait a few more days.
Finally tonight they were able to tackle this part of the project. They had to make a few adjustments to make the gate actually fit in the space allotted....
It took a lot of teamwork, measuring, trimming, measuring, trimming...
And finally, after a lot of adjustments....here is the finished product:
Not too bad for our first attempt at creating a gate from scratch with no pattern!!! And it actually opens and closes!!!
And of course, just like on "fixer upper", there are some candid shots...
And some blurred shots...but that's okay...you can't see how dusty and dirty I am if it's a little fuzzy!
All in all, it was a fun family project. We hope to do more sections of the fence as we can afford to do so. Thankfully, there is only ONE gate! The rest is easy peasy!!! (well, almost)
What's the old saying, "A family that prays together, stays together" ? Well, I totally agree with that, but I'd like to add this: "A Family that works on projects together builds lots of good memories and gets things done!" Of course, that doesn't rhyme, but I never claimed to be a poet!
The gate turned out great!! Good job.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary! I learned a lot in this little project. And it was fun working together with our boys. God is good!
DeleteLookin' gooood...
ReplyDeleteDiana
Thank you Diana. We only have about 20 more sections of fence to replace...but that will be a while. Takes money and a lot of energy!! I am so thankful for our sons helping us.
DeleteGood job, you must have watched a lot of DIY network.
ReplyDeleteHa ha!! A little...but my sons are pretty clever and had given me the instructions of how to do it before we tried. Thank goodness! I would have totally messed it up if they hadn't have given me some direction.
DeleteI'm really impressed!! (Can you hope down this way for a couple of days? We have a very small wood project (cupboard door - close to a gate!!) that needs to be done!) Well done!!
ReplyDeleteHOP, not hope, but I guess I could HOPE that you would come!! LOL
DeleteI "Hope" I could "HOP" down there...but you really would rather I didn't try to fix your cupboard door. My son could do it, however. He's pretty good at that stuff. Wish you weren't quite so far! I'd send him on down! What are you planning to do with the door?
DeleteI am impressed too! Love this gate!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ariella. It was a little more difficult than it looks here, but between all of us we got it done! Thank you for your visit. Looking forward to getting better acquainted with you in the future!
DeletePam, thank you for sharing the second part of your fixer up project. Great job on the gate too. I've always heard measure twice, cut once. :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Yes, that is a good bit of advice. In this case, hubby and I put the gate together, and then the boys had to make the adjustments to make it fit the space because the space was not quite a perfect 42" like our gate was. But we couldn't use the saws to cut and trim, so they did that and now it fits perfectly! Teamwork!!!
DeleteGreat job... Love the fate. My favorite is the owlie watching out for you! ☺
ReplyDeleteThank you Debbie! I knew you'd love that sweet little owlie face!!! It makes me smile everytime I look at it!
DeletePam: You and your guys did very well getting this done. I like the way you were able to work on the gate. I look forward to reading more about your family projects in the future.
ReplyDeleteThank you Cecilia! As long as our strength holds up and the boys stay around to help...Lord willing, there will be more family projects in the future. When you buy a "fixer upper" house, there will ALWAYS be more projects!
DeleteSo exciting! How wonderful it feels to get projects like this done by working together on it to figure it out! Your gate looks amazing, and what a lovely addition it adds to you home! So happy your project is complete, and beautifully so... love your adage at the end, it sounds great, and it sure doesn't need to rhyme, it just needs to make sense, and it does! Hugs to you today :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm glad my little "non-poem" made sense! My family laughs at my attempts to rhyme things...I just don't seem to have that rhythm in my brain. I think it's because I'm left-handed. That's my excuse for everything I can't do! LOL. We still have a way to go with this fence, but will be working on it a little section at a time. Good way to stay in shape! Have a blessed day my friend. I hope springter is becoming true spring for you!
