Greetings from my desk to yours...This will be brief...our WiFi modem is dying and seems to keep dropping in and out. We have contacted our internet provider, and they cannot come to replace it until Thursday. Right now at this moment it is working, but by the time I finish typing this, it may be back off again, so you may or may not ever see this message. I didn't have time to do the Tuesday 4 meme today as I had other things planned and had hoped to get it done tonight. But I don't want to chance it and will just say that most likely you won't be seeing much of me for the next couple of days.
Of course without the internet, we also cannot watch TV...and I cannot access the WiFi items on my cell phone either, so things could get pretty quiet around here. I told hubby we need to just take tomorrow off and go someplace, like the beach or some other interesting place rather than sit here staring at the four walls. It's sad that we've become so dependent on the internet for our communication as well as entertainment, bill paying, GPS, all of the above and more. We've forgotten how to "live" without it. I've been reading a lot of Amish fiction lately, and they seem to get along just fine without it or any other modern convenience. We may need to get back to the basics again and try to spend a little more time focused on real life, right here in front of us without any technological interference. Sounds good to me.
Well, right now we seem to have two green lights on the modem, so I'll keep typing. LOL.
I don't really have anything much to share anyway...but the other morning I was in a "vintage mood" and decided to eat my breakfast on this vintage china that belonged to my hubby's grandmother. It was a very common pattern back in the day, seems like everyone had some kind of dishes similar to this. I love it and wish I had a whole set of it!
It was perfect for my two fried eggs and two blueberry bran muffins.
Later that day, after we had gone to the store, I had bought some very good fresh Bing Cherries. It made me think about Mary Englebreit's "
Life is Just a Chair of Bowlies", instead of the saying "Life is just a bowl of cherries." So Lily Grace got in on the act and sat in the chair with a Mary Englebreit placemat and had a bowl of cherries. I had shared more about this particular placemat
HERE sometime last year, when I first got it and thought it was so cute. It's still cute, don't you agree? And it goes so well with the bowl of cherries and Lily Grace wanted to say hello again!
Still in the "vintage mood", this was the bowl that I used for the cherries...Isn't it a beauty?
Here's the pattern name if you are interested: It's the only one I have of it. Found it at a yard sale sometime ago.
Well, the internet seems to be holding up while I type, so I might as well try to do the Tuesday 4 meme for today. Hopefully I will get it posted before it goes down again.
Here goes nothing... LOL.
Friendship".,,there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother" Psalms 18
It's time once again for Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4. Let's talk about friendship.
1. Do you have or have you had a special or best friend or do you consider all your friends the same? I was blessed all during my school years to have several really special friends. We grew up together, 1st grade through 12th grade, and so we shared many experiences together during all of our stages of growth...early childhood through adolescence and almost adults...Many of us have stayed in touch through the years, and especially now through Facebook. I don't want to single out any one of them because I love them all.
HERE is a link to a post I wrote about my old school friends, complete with pictures, if you are interested in going down memory lane with me. I was blessed to grow up when and where I did, and I treasure every friend.
2. Many in the past had close relationships and fell in love through letters. What do you think of online friendships.. are they real ? Are there friends who last a lifetime?I think our online friendships are very real. I consider every one of you a special friend, and I treasure your friendship very much. I have been privileged to meet a few of you in person, and I wish we could ALL meet in person sometime. Yes, there are definitely friends who last a lifetime. See my #1 answer above.
3. Are there stories, movies or TV programs that you enjoyed because of the friendship or relationship portrayed in it?
All of a sudden I remembered that I had received the book
"Friendship", by Ralph Waldo Emerson, as a graduation gift from a lady in my church. So I just went in search of it and found it on a bookshelf...goodness, I've had that book for 55 years!! I will give one quote from this little book:
"I awoke this morning with devout thanksgiving for my friends, the old and the new.
Shall I not call God the Beautiful, who daily showeth Himself so to me in His gifts?"...
"My friends have come to me unsought. The great God gave them to me."
That is an excellent way to describe how I feel about my friends...they are gifts from God to me...to bless my life with their presence and kindness and sincerity. I am indeed very thankful for all of my friends, old and new, near and far...
Here are some other little quotes that are hanging on the walls around my home that will also give an insight to how I feel about friendship:
Each of these special little plaques were actual gifts from dear friends.
Friendship is a very special gift that I truly cherish. Thank you for being my friend.
Well, I guess I made it all the way through this post without the internet going down! Maybe it has healed itself...or maybe God touched it with His special grace so that I could share this post with you.
Either way, I am happy I was able to spend this time with you.
Now let's go see what our other friends are writing about over at
Thank you, Annie, for making this possible.
I will try to get around to visit you all, but if I don't it will probably be because the internet went back down. So bear with me please, friends!
💕
I do believe that God puts people in our lives for a reason and each one is a blessing!! I cherish our friendship and am glad we have connected in person several times... and you got to meet Joe, too!! Your vintage china is beautiful and I LOVE cherry season!! Blessings!! xo
ReplyDeleteGood morning, and I hope your 'connection' made it through the night unscathed! Love that old china ... mostly, that you treated yourself. I wonder, did breakfast felt a little more elegant? So cute, how you paired Mary Englebreit, Lily Grace and the cherries. I was really 'into' ME for a couple of years; not so sure now why that passed.
ReplyDeleteWow. I'm touched by that olden book on friendship. Now I'm thinking the hopechest may contain one of those belonging to my mother; I'll have to look! Your collection of verses are wonderful. I don't think we can ever be reminded enough times what a treasure it is to have friends. Have a blessed day!
I have a saying for when I am having issues with my computer or my WIFI. I automatically think," Isn't it nice to have electronics?" My answer to myself is; "When they work," I used to compare any upset to my routine to when our car was in the shop. I could think of all sorts of things I could do, except that the car, the phone, the TV, the computer or the electricity was out. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteLove the vintage china. Johnson Bros. produced so very many beautiful designs.
ReplyDeleteAnd the ME place mat -- I bought fabric like that some years ago. If I remember right I used it to make a chef's hat for a granddaughter, among other things.
I agree, online friendships are very real and it's always such a blessing when we get to meet in person too!
Friendships are definitely gifts that God sends our way. Like you, Pamela, I treasure my online friends so very much, and feel so honored to have become a part of their lives. I do hope your modem will hold up until you can get another!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
I think your plate and bowl are just beautiful and fit with the Mary Englebreit placemat perfectly. Lilly Grace seems to think so too! I have friends that I've had since Kindergarten as we also went to school through twelfth grade together. I'm glad that we've kept in touch through facebook, although I lives have taken very divergent courses. Your friendship gifts are priceless, proof of the love your friends have for you. I sure hope your internet keeps working for you. I feel the same way about being too dependent upon it though.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and love,
Betsy
That is a beautiful plate and the bowl is as well. I always enjoy antique dishes and such. Nice to get out once in a while. Enjoy your few days off - go to the beach, walk in the woods - go somewhere and just have a great time. We'll alll be here when you get back.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debby. The internet technician came today instead of tomorrow, so we are back up and running like a racehorse today. It's a good thing we didn't venture too far away or we would have missed him. We did ride into the 'city' and I did a little shopping, but he called and we came right back home. So all's well that ends well.
DeleteSorry about your internet. We bought our own modem several years ago and it is working great and we don't have to be charged for it on our bill. Take care.
ReplyDeleteOh Pam I just love that pretty floral plate! You and I sure share a love of the old vintage plates and teacups, tea pots, etc. So glad you used yours! Happy to see Miss Lily Grace out and about too, so cute with her cherries! She looks so cute and summery! Loved all the pictures and sure hope your modem/internet connection got fixed today?? Yep, we've all got very dependent on many of the modern conveniences for sure. Goodness gracious, we are trying to stay cool and hydrated here, LOL!--it's hot summertime for sure now. Somehow we get everybody fed and watered each day! LOL. it's practically a full time job to keep chickens WATERED. Have you ever seen how QUICKLY they ruin fresh water?...like you put it in fresh cool CLEAN water and in 10 minutes they've flurried and scattered and threw junk all in it, what a mess. ha ha LOL. Not complaining, I love them! They are fun to watch and I never knew how they each have their own personality. Plus they are much smarter than I ever knew before we had chickens. ha ha LOL. Hope your all's week has gone well. How are your flowers doing, anything blooming? Are you getting any "maters"? Love and hugs to y'all and to Lily Grace and Bailey too. Enjoy some fried eggs for me too please, okay? I do love fried or scrambled eggs. With salt and pepper. And sometimes a sprinkle of cheese. Do y'all ever have breakfast for supper? We do once in awhile, I wish I would remember to do it more often. Eggs, sausage or bacon, hash browns and biscuits and GRAVY!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debbi. Yes, our internet is up and running like a racehorse. They put in a new line as the old one wasn't the right kind for this type of "speed". It sure made a huge difference...and the modem itself was fine after all! Are your chickens laying eggs yet? I know they keep you busy! What fun for you!!! Not much is blooming here...it's been too hot and I can't get out there and do much with it. We had two "maters" on my one plant. Next year, Lord willing, I may plant more tomato plants and maybe even some squash...those are two things we eat regularly. We do have breakfast for supper occasionally...when I haven't planned for anything else on time...LOL. Love all of the above you mentioned...our church is having a community breakfast this Saturday morning and I intend to get all of the above, except they don't do the hash browns or bacon. But they do eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, grits, pancakes, french toast. So I'll get something worth having for sure! LOL. Have a blessed and wonderful weekend. Lily Grace sends her love to Tracie and Amybelle and Tansy.
DeleteThe bowl made in England could be an antique. Try to get it valued. I don't think Johnson Bros still exists.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thank you, Victor. I did some research...Johnson Bros. is no longer in business but sold out to "China", so reproductions all come from China now. Mine is old and original. I have a lot of other old Johnson Bros. "Currier and Ives" dishes, some original, but some reproduction I think because there is no stamp on the back. I'm sure the little cereal bowl that I showed could bring a little bit of money, but someday I will leave all of that up to my kids to figure out. They will have their work cut out for them as most of what I have is "old". Values change with time, so what it's worth today may change by the time I'm dead and gone. LOL. Thank you for the "heads up". I appreciate that! Have a blessed day my friend across the pond!
DeleteWe often have internetproblems here. Sometimes it's stressful when something needs to be done as soon as possible. We rely on internet too much.
ReplyDeleteMy kids navigate through London with apps. I leave my phone in my bag, have no apps on it, except for the diabetes app, and I'm able to find my way anyway. Thanks to nice people, posters on the walls in the stations, and some good thinking.
Great idea to have a fun day outside the home. Although a library might provide a connection (they do here).
The bowl's pattern dates back to 1945-1965.
I enjoyed this post very much. And it's nice to meet online friends.
I did a few times, and they are real life friends now too.
But it can be very surprising, as some blogs make you feel a certain voice... and the lady in question had a completely different voice...which was fun.
I hope your internetproblems will be fixed soon.
Thank you for your visits and kindness.
Have a good weekend!
