Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Monday Monday...Stormy Skies and Pleasant Days
Stormy Skies! These photos were actually taken yesterday evening. We thought we'd go take a walk, but didn't realize how stormy the skies were until we got to our walking place. So we hurried up and walked fast and got back in the car just before the lightning and thunder started and then the rains came.
I thought you'd enjoy seeing the storm clouds from a distance:
Aren't they amazing? Now today, we are actually having a lot of rain again.
Here's the view on Still Waters Pond:
Not too long ago it was very dry where all those tall grasses are now.
But the waters have come back up quite nicely with all the rain we've been having.
The pond looks quite healthy again. Of course, there are still too many lily pads, but not much I can do about that. It's still beautiful in its own way.
And guess who came to visit us today? Yes! The whole Sand Hill Crane family came back for a nice little visit!
We had not seen the whole family in about a month, and I was beginning to worry about them, but today they all showed up and stayed awhile. They must like whatever is growing there in the tall, wet grasses along the shore of the pond.
Look how big Pat and Val have gotten! They still don't have their red caps on their heads yet, but it won't be long, I'm sure.
And the Bluebirds seem to be coming and going these days. I hadn't seen them for a couple of days and so I was beginning to think they had given up on nesting again, perhaps because it had been so hot.
But they showed up again this morning and checked everything out and acted like they were still building the nest...but this fella doesn't really look very happy:
What do you think? LOL.
These are just two of them, but there are at least four, and they are constantly fighting for first place at the bird feeder. They zoom in and out like fighter jets, chasing each other out of the way...
But then they call "truce" for a few seconds and give each other a chance to get a drink, before zooming away again, only to return in another few minutes. It's quite a show!
Speaking of "quite a show"...we bought a couple of new rugs for our two sweet grandpuppies, and put their little toy balls on the rugs to see what they would do. They immediately ran to the rugs and started playing
And then they wrestled over the rugs and had them all bunched up and rolled up in them and had a good old time.
But finally settled down and just relaxed and enjoyed having a new rug to lay on. Yes, one rug is smaller than the other because they came in a set like that, but they really didn't care. They were happy.
Someone said last week that I should let Sugar and Spice have their own blog to tell about their adventures. Well...that might be pushing it a bit. We'll just share their fun whenever we can. I should talk my son or DIL into writing a blog for them. They are the ones who get to see their adventures the most. I mean, they just took a big trip across the country and back and had all kinds of fun, while we sat here and sweltered in the sunny south. LOL.
But anyway, moving right along...
Yesterday, (Sunday), was an interesting day. Saturday afternoon we received a call from our Pastor's wife asking if my hubby would be able to preach on Sunday, as the Pastor was sick with a tummy virus. Hubby was more than happy to be able to do that for him. As a retired preacher, he has lots of sermons still floating around in his head, and with the help of the Holy Spirit he was able to preach a wonderful message yesterday morning. It was such a blessing to see that even at our "great age", God is still able to use us for His honor and glory as needed.
I remember these words were preached at my husband's ordination service, about 45 years ago:
2 Timothy 4:1-5
This picture was taken of us at his ordination service, as these men of God laid hands on us and prayed and anointed my husband for service in the ministry. 45 years ago is a long time, and we've been a lot of places and he's preached many a sermon, but God's blessing and gift is still there, alive and well. Praise God!! So very thankful to God for His blessings.
Well, dear friends, I need to wrap this up. Monday is almost over and soon it will be time for the Tuesday 4 'meme', which I hope to participate in tomorrow, "Lord willing and the creek don't rise!" If it keeps raining, I may have to think about that old saying. I see where some places up north are really and truly having serious flooding issues. I don't know if any of our blogging friends live in those places, but if so, you are in our thoughts and prayers. Praying you are safe and "high and dry".

What a joy that John was asked to preach on Sunday, Pamela. I know after all those years in the pulpit that his list of resources is long and varied. And I love the photo of you both at his ordination - precious!
ReplyDeleteThe grand-pups are as cute as can be, too. I think a blog about them is a great idea for Benton and/or Rose to pursue if they feel called to. People do so enjoy reading about animals and pets.
Blessings for a great week ahead!
Thank you, Martha. I love to hear him preach...especially happy that he's still willing and able. It's been such a big part of our lives for so long, I am thankful God still finds times to use him. As far as a blog about the grandpups, I don't think Benton or Rose have the time or desire to write a blog about their pups, but I will just have to add little snippets from time to time. They are sweet doggies and like grandchildren, we are happy to see them, but glad we don't have the full responsibility for them! LOL. (or the vet bills!). I hope you have a blessed and wonderful week ahead too.
DeleteOk, you had me at the dogs ... *lol* They are so cute!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful Hubby got to preach again on Sunday. Bet it was a good one. Steve got too a couple of times when our Pastor was grieving from them losing their daughter. Steve said he doesn't want to do that often 'cause it's a lot of work! I can believe that.
Great post as always.
Love xx
Oh, I am so very sorry to hear about the loss of your Pastor's daughter. That is very sad, and I can imagine it was very difficult for him to preach during that time. although that kind of grief never totally goes away, but it's good to be able to minister to others in the process. God uses every experience in our lives to help others if we allow Him to. How wonderful that Steve was able to fill in for him and give him that time to recuperate from such a loss. I am sure he did a great job and that everyone was blessed by his messages.
DeleteI'm glad you enjoyed seeing the dogs. They are cuties. We enjoy them and love them. They are always so happy to see us too!! They know who they are talking about when they ask them if they want to go see Grandma and Grandpa! LOL. Fun fun fun. Have a wonderful rest of your week.
It looks like y'all are getting the same weather as what we're experiencing. (I keep telling myself: "This, too, shall pass." Oh, the expression that bluebird's face is hysterical. Suppose his wife is already talking about making renovations (heh-heh)? So glad Pat, Val and their parents are home again. But you know, my favs are Sugar and Spice. Our dogs provide the best entertainment, don't they? What an honor that John was asked to present yesterday's sermon and happy to do so. Blessed!
ReplyDeleteThe rain is just crazy here. It comes down in buckets. My roof is leaking in the lanai/den. I said a prayer to be shown the way because I have no money to have it fixed. Too many things going bad these days. I am drained. Maybe it will be dry for a few days. I love that the cranes come back to visit! We have a pair that walk through Mas Verde most days. I think their nest is across the street but they seem to enjoy visiting here. I never get my phone in time but others have posted photos of them. So fun!! The blue bird does look like he is not happy. I am sure that birdhouse is HOT inside. Stay dry up there!! xo
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice memory for you both - 45 years in service. My husband was a lay-Pastor in the military and part time Chaplin at the Cal Vet home.
ReplyDeleteThe birds are so special and fun to watch. We love our birds as well, although we don't have any big cranes like you do or blue birds. I don't believe I have ever seen blue birds around here. We have a lot of finches and those big loud Ravens and Stellar Jays. They play with our dog -
Your granddogs are sure cute. God bless.
Always great to see the sand hill crane family! Glad they paid a visit! The grand pups are just the cutest, too! So enjoy all of your pictures.
ReplyDeleteThe dogs with their new rugs look cozy. I am sure they are fun to be with. When I went outdoors to turn the water off, after I watered plants, our neighbor's dog, barked at me as usual with a nice bark!! Cozy dog he is though I don't pet him!! We haven't had rain recently so my daughter and I water daily to keep the potted plants alive. We've had another pastor do a sermon at church instead of one that was to preach that day, due to illness. I remember months ago when our worship leader called pastor Jesse Sat evening that he was sick and couldn't be there. Jesse and two other men did worship with hymns and no instruments played. It was good to go through that service! Good memories of your husband being anointed to being a preacher. Good scripture verse you shared!! My husband and I taught kids class 2nd service this Sunday and will do next Sunday as well. Have a blessed week!!--Becky
ReplyDeleteGlad to read that your area had some much needed rainfall, Pam, and we have been having too much here in NH, but not with the flooding like in VT, thankfully. The crane families are really growing and hope the bluebirds decide to settle into their new home. Yes, that a very odd expression on the one.
