Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

"It's a Blustery Day, WTP"
Who remembers this?
Well, today was a "rather blustery day..."
It rained and rained, and the wind blew and blew and was raw and cold...
This was the temperature at about 3:00 p.m. 54 degrees, here in Florida.
I just looked at the thermometer now and it is 50 degrees at 6:19 p.m., and going down. No more rain, but still windy and raw.
This was after the rain had stopped. I don't know how many inches we got, but it rained pretty steadily for two days. Still Waters Pond is full again.
You can't tell much from these pictures, but the wind was blowing and well, it was a blustery day...
So, for the first time in a LONG time, I felt like baking cookies! I haven't done much baking in a while because of my neck and arm issues prior to my surgery, plus I prefer to bake when it is cooler weather so it makes the house feel warm and cozy.
(and smell so good too!)
Warm Oatmeal Cookies, fresh out of the oven! Want one?
And my other favorite thing to do on a cold windy blustery day is make Hobo Stew: (recipe can be found on THIS POST. Click HERE, and Be sure to scroll down when you get there.)
And Hobo Stew always calls for cornbread:
Perfect food for a blustery day...
So what kind of things do YOU like to do on a blustery day?
We've had the "fire" in the "fireplace"...makes it feel warm and cozy in the house. Actually we usually just turn on the fire light and not the heat portion, because if we do, it makes the furnace not turn on when it should and then the rest of the house gets too cold. Yes, our "furnace" has been on today, because there has been no sunshine whatsoever, and with all the rain and wind, it's been a very chilly raw day. We Floridians have thinner blood than people up north because we aren't used to cold weather...so we need a little heat when it's so cold.
Praise God for our First Responders!!
Have a blessed night and Sunday tomorrow my friends.

The hobo stew with cornbread just looks wonderful. Good down-home food. Like those cookies! And oatmeal is good for you! 50 degrees in Florida is "winter" weather, LOL. It does feel raw with the high humidity, very chilly to the bone. Love your little fireplace. It just gives a cozy feeling to your room! I hope you feel better day by day.
ReplyDeleteOh that stew looks perfect for such a blustery day! And the cookies, and cornbread, wow. You nailed it, you win the Cozy Award. My mother-in-law told me how rainy it was down there in Florida, said we chose a good weekend to visit (last weekend), as it's sunny here up north for several days now! But of course 55 is considered "nice" to us northerners, ha. We got some leaves raked up today....
ReplyDeleteDella
I like your little fireplace! 🙂
ReplyDeleteYour stew and cornbread and cookies look so good. That is exactly what to do on a cold day. Our cooler day was Friday. It was very cold this morning but the sun came out and all was much better. I agree we have thinner blood or something because I am sure those up north just roll their eyes when I talk about being cold.
ReplyDeleteYour food looks delish! Thankfully, my SIL is a great cook who loves to work in kitchen. My spirits are high.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit. I’ll take a cookie please! My spirits are high, and the kids will take over while here!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are improving so rapidly, Pam, and I will certainly continue to pray for Jimmy. Fifty degrees IS cold for Florida, that's for sure! This morning, up here in North Georgia, it is 34 degrees. It won't be long before there is a hard freeze and I'll lose my beautiful impatiens on the deck. Oh, well, everything in its season.
ReplyDeleteYour stew, cornbread and cookies look delightful, too. I can almost smell them!
Blessings!
They did a great job with the clean-up.
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you are feeling so much better—baking cookies even!
Your fire is cheery...I would enjoy that flame.
Ongoing prayers for all... I long ago decided to pray for each need as I visit. It helps
me to remember.
Have a great week!
Oops -- I think we're at fault for sending our weather your way. Yep, there's 'something' about a dank and dreary day that mandates turning on our faux fireplace. Unfortunately, there were no cookies to be found. But your hobo stew looks SO delicious. I'm definitely going to steal your recipe!
ReplyDeletePS - Love that you've shared your community first responders' goodwill. Just one of the reasons I'll never EVER live in a Big City again.
Everything looks so warm and cozy - I bet your home smells good, too. Thanks for the recipes. That Hobo Stew looks scrumptious.
ReplyDeleteAll that food looks so good, and I'm not even hungry. Had too much at lunch.
ReplyDeleteYum, those cookies look yummy! Thank you for your kind words. Oh, I will have plenty of help when kids come. I hope this comments works!
ReplyDeleteSorry cannot comment much.., will say yummy cookies! Thanks for your visit!
ReplyDeleteJust checking in quickly, Pam. I am thrilled that you felt like baking and making stew!! Yippee!! You are still in my prayers! I am happy to be home. It was cold here but a lot colder up in Georgia! xo
ReplyDeleteIt was cold and blustery here on that day, too. I kept reminding myself that above all those clouds was brilliant sunshine. It was an excellent day to stay home, and I did!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to read that you are feeling much improved after the surgery!
Pam: We are having a heat wave here. It has been 63* each day this week. However, we know what will be coming. I enjoyed your pictures of your friend's "helpers". We don't give our first responders enough recognition when they do something extra.
