Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Friday Foto Friends
Good Friday Morning everyone! Hope it is a beautiful day in your neighborhood, wherever you may be!
I took this picture yesterday morning for Veteran's Day, thinking I would write a post, but never got around to it yesterday...but it's always a good thing to share pictures of our great American Flag and to honor those who have given so much for our freedoms. May we never take that for granted.
Freedom is never free! Someone has paid the price for us, so let us be thankful and always mindful of that fact. May God bless our veterans everywhere. We appreciate the sacrifices you have made on our behalf.
Yesterday was also another very special day...the 4th anniversary of our "kids" wedding day!
I took this picture of them yesterday morning when they stopped by our house on their way to a day filled with some fun and adventure. They took the day off from their work at the store, well, with the exception of making one big delivery of some furniture to a customer near Jacksonville, and also shopping for some things for their special "Sip and Shop" sales day coming up this Saturday at their store in St. Augustine, Dixie Cottage, well...anyway, they tried to take the day off...
And they made it to the beach and out to lunch at some nice little seafood place. They sent us this picture to show they did get to have some fun! One thing they are learning, when you are self-employed you gotta grab the moments when you can. Thankfully they have a couple of vendor helpers who can "man" the store for them occasionally so they can get away for a day.
We are so thankful for this precious couple and especially for our sweet "daughter in love" that God has brought into our family.
Here they were 4 years ago:
May God bless them with many many more happy years together.
Now on to other things!
In my wanderings around our yard I noticed that this variegated philodendron plant is growing wild all over our wooded lot. It is lovely, BUT it is a bit invasive and is not good for the trees.
I looked it up online and discovered that there are Etsy sites who are selling this stuff for hundreds and thousands of dollars! Yikes!! I may have a gold mine here!
However, I would like to just get rid of it before it destroys our trees!
So, if you happen to be in the area and would like to come and get some of this for your own houseplants, please come help yourself! If I were a very enterprising person, I might start putting it in pots and selling it...but that sounds too much like work to me. I'd rather just give it away.
So come and get it!
It probably all started with someone throwing out a houseplant that they thought was dead...and this is what happened here in our tropical woods!!
It is quite pretty...and grows quite large!
Okay, enough of that!
Now, this past year our ladies' group at our church, the UMW, and our Ladies' Bible Study group, have been meeting in our church parsonage house for our meetings because it is empty, (our pastor has his own home), and it is a lovely big house with plenty of room. You may recall that we actually lived in that house for a couple of months when we were in transition from our previous home to this present home.
Anyway, one of the issues we have faced with using this house was that we have several ladies who some physical disabilities and must use a walker or a wheelchair to get around. This house was not equipped with a handicapped accessible bathroom, so it was becoming an issue for them to participate in our activities at this house. Finally, a member of our church who is also a builder/handyman, was able to install a wider door to the bathroom (32" wide) and add a grab bar by the toilet, (which was already high enough to meet ADA standards), so that now no one should have any difficulty being able to access the facilities! Our ladies are all VERY thankful for this much needed improvement!
One of the projects our ladies work on is buying and wrapping Christmas gifts for the children of our community. Our little church (which averages about 60-70 people each week at this time) , manages to buy enough toys, underwear, socks, and school supplies each year to give to the 500+ students at our elementary school! Yes, you heard that right! We have done this consistently for many years! They start collecting new toys for Christmas back in January and then start gift wrapping in August or September. Here is the current stack of gifts that have been wrapped by our ladies:
And it is still growing. However, we found out just this past week that the school really doesn't want the toys, etc., gift wrapped anymore, so they can make sure everyone gets equal gifts, etc., but they said we don't have to unwrap what we've done...just don't wrap any more! That's nice to know...just too bad they didn't tell us sooner! LOL.
I am amazed at what these faithful ladies have been able to accomplish, with God's help.
Okay, back to nature for a minute.
I noticed some different looking birds on Still Waters Pond yesterday afternoon, sitting out on a little sand bar in the water:
I had to zoom in to figure out that they were a couple of buzzards, sitting there enjoying life on the pond for a spell! Never saw that before...
This "Anhinga" was keeping a close watch on them from his perch in the water while he dried his wings.
One crow flew away, leaving this crow as the "king of the mountain", or the conqueror of Bobby the Squirrel...or maybe Bobby was just giving him a "piggy back ride". LOL.
One day I watched these Sand Hill Cranes out on the little sand bar playing with a discarded tire that some inconsiderate person threw onto the pond from the highway on the other side of those trees. I have not been happy about that, but the cranes seem to think this is their own little playground and they enjoy playing on it like it is their personal tire swing or something like that...
Glad they are enjoying it, because I personally would like to go get rid of it, but I can't get to it.
Oh well, such is life. I just wish people were more considerate of our nature and land...
Okay, that's all I've got in the way of pictures for today.
I do have some prayer requests:
Please remember our blogging friend Mildred Nalley from her blog that was called "Laurel Wood" (but it has recently been removed). She is in Hospice care and is in the final stages of her earthly life. I know she would appreciate your thoughts and prayers on her behalf at this time.
And my friend Jimmy that I told you about last week will be having surgery next week to remove the brain tumor, followed by radiation. Then following that he will also be having colon surgery and further treatment, but the oncologists have assured him that his condition is very treatable and they have high hopes. I know he and his family will also appreciate your thoughts and prayers.
And a praise report for me! I am feeling better and better with each new day. I was having some difficulty with swallowing, as a side-effect of the surgery...but finally this week that has improved greatly and hopefully I'll be able to eat a good Thanksgiving dinner when the time comes! Praise God for His healing power!! And thank you for your prayers!
I like this message from the little devotional book, "Choose Grace"...
Perhaps some of us are having some "shaky knees" this week and needed this word of encouragement. I know God's Word always helps me when I am feeling shaky or discouraged...it's always like a strong hand that comes alongside to lift me up and help me keep going.
Praise God!
Have a blessed and beautiful day, my friends!!

Wishing the kids a very happy Anniversary. Wishing/praying for many more happy years, my friend. Keeping Mildred and your friend in prayer.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. For the anniversary wishes as well as praying for Mildred. I think she is very close to seeing Jesus face to face, so even though I am praying for her, I am also very happy for her to soon be set free from her body of pain. But I know her husband and loved ones will be sad to see her go. She is a very sweet and precious woman, and I will miss her too.
DeleteNice to hear the good reports all around and I hope your friend Jimmy does well next week. Poor guy.
ReplyDeleteIf either one of us is ever using a walker we'll need to widen the door(s) too. Or move. Wouldn't wanna do that though. Guess I'll cross that bridge if I ever come to it.
Blessings. xx
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for my friend Jimmy. He has a rough road ahead for certain, and I pray God will give him the strength he needs to fight his way through to a happier conclusion. As my son Matthew used to say often, and wear it on his hat and t-shirt, "Cancer Sucks". It really does. There's nothing good that can be said about it. But Jimmy's doctors are optimistic, and so we pray for good results. Yes, we also will need to do something if any of us need to use a walker or wheelchair. I already have it figured out, which doors need to be widened, etc., but first we need a ramp just to get into our house, since it sits up with about 5-6 steps to get inside. I wouldn't mind having that built now so some of our friends can come and visit! But ramps are expensive to build, esp. with the price of lumber right now. It's on the list of things we need to do in the future. Hubby says either that or we have to move again, and I sure don't want to do that!!!
DeleteI enjoyed your post today, as always. :) I think it's nice that you post prayer requests. That is just such a great thing to do. I love seeing the bird pictures... you know, we put up a bird bath this year for the first time ever, but the birds won't use it. Isn't that weird? They come to all of our feeders; but not the bath. Maybe they just don't love them as much as I thought they did, lol. I also enjoyed seeing all the gifts you ladies are giving. That is quite amazing! God bless you all!
ReplyDeleteHello Ang! Thank you so much for writing. I do like to share prayer requests amongst our blogging friends as I believe we are a special community who truly do care for one another even if we haven't ever met in person. We often share some of our innermost feelings and thoughts in our blogs, and sometimes I feel like my blogging friends know more about me than some of my in person friends! (or family!). We are a unique group of people who encourage one another just by being here. I love it. Now regarding your bird bath...do you have it near the bird feeders? Is it in a location where the birds would feel safe from predators? It may take a while for them to notice..it isn't too deep is it? I have noticed they don't really like a deep bath bowl. You might be surprised who uses it when you aren't looking. We've had owls, hawks, raccoons, and even cats stop to take a sip out of the water when it is hot and dry. We have even put a bowl of water on the ground for some of the birds that are more ground feeders, like Brown Thrashers and even sometimes the Cardinals and other little birds like the one on the ground, if it is in a woodsy location. So don't give up...however, if you live in a cold climate it might freeze up in the winter and crack the bowl, so either you need to have a heated one or put it away in winter. Thank you for visiting with me Ang. You are in my thoughts and prayers as well...
DeleteHappy Anniversary to your Young Uns! ❤️
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling better.
Aaaaand... I LOVE that your houseplant went rouge and wild and refused to give up! 😃
Ha Ha regarding the rogue houseplant! Now if someone would just come and rescue it from taking over my trees I would appreciate it! If I were more enterprising I would pot it up and sell it to people at the flea market or something...but that sounds like work and I'm basically lazy. LOL. So I hope someone comes and takes it away! LOL. Have a blessed and wonderful weekend. Always enjoy hearing from you.
DeleteYour posts are always full of hope and joy, Pam! Prayers for those intentions mentioned and praise God you are doing better and better!! Prayers continue for your healing! Happy anniversary to your sweet kiddos and I'm glad they had part of the day off for some fun. Too bad for that tire. Some people are so inconsiderate. Have a wonderful weekend, Pam! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri. You are so sweet. And I am feeling better day by day. And yes, the kids had a wonderful anniversary, and tomorrow will be a big day for them at the store with a special pre-Christmas sale event going on all day. They are excited and doing well. Hope you are having a good visit with your family.
DeleteHappy Anniversary to the special couple! Like you I am so fortunate to have DIL's that I truly love.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are so beautiful and makes me think I can almost smell the water and reeds.
I will remember your friends.
Thank you so much, Anne, for the prayers and the kind words! I do appreciate that so much. And yes, we are blessed to have these special DIL's in our lives! God is good, and He knew what I needed for sure!
DeleteFour years married??? It doesn't seem possible, Pam, but I'm so glad the love birds are still going strong in their love and commitment to one another. Of course, as always, I loved your photos here today. And yes, prayers will continue for Mildred, for Jimmy and for you. By the way, how is Shannon coming along? Prayers for her, too.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Thank you, Martha. Yes, these four years have gone by so quickly, it is hard for us to believe as well! But they have been happy and productive years. God is so good. Thank you for your prayers on behalf of our friends. And Shannon seems to be doing very well physically. Please continue to pray for her emotionally. That seems to be the greatest need in her life right now. God knows, and He hears our prayers. Thank you. So happy for your upcoming trip! Can't wait to hear all about it when you return, but just have a wonderful time and enjoy every minute of it!!
DeleteGreat post. It's good to see that your children got to get away for some leisure time. Now, the name Mildred Nalley rings a bell, but I can't recall any details about her. Praying that God would give her peace,
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ruth. I know that your prayers are being heard by our Heavenly Father on Mildred's behalf. Thank you.
DeleteWhat a wonderful image of your 'kids' on the beach! Frame worthy, for sure! I'm saddened to learn of Mildred's present state ... reminded of a splendid book I read many years ago, "Tears Are For The Living." So happy that Jimmy's oncologist is optimistic; having walked that walk with my Tom in 2013, there's no feeling to compare.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this page from your devotional. Having spent most of today in the trauma hospital ER - and Tom facing emergent surgery tomorrow, I'm comforted by that encouragement.
Oh my, Myra. I am so sorry to hear about Tom's emergency surgery tomorrow. Praying for him now, and will continue to do so. Please be sure to update us when you are able. God is with you and He will carry you through this difficult time. (((hugs))) to you tonight dear friend.
DeleteHappy Anniversary to those kiddos. Running a business is indeed hard work with little time off. I am glad they were able to pull away for just a bit. The birdies are all so pretty. November has been so pretty here in the Panhandle. It is so sweet what that little church is doing for the children. That is what it is all about. Serving and giving. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sandy. Yes, running a business is hard work, but they are enjoying it and God has been blessing their efforts...but yes, they need to take off when they can to rest and breathe a bit. Hope you and your family are doing well. I bet that little guy is growing by leaps and bounds! I'm sure he keeps you hopping! You are blessed to be able to enjoy your sweet grandchildren so much. Hope you have a great weekend and week ahead as well.
DeleteWell-timed words of encouragement here, Pam. Thank you.
ReplyDelete(((hugs))) to you my friend. Love, Pam
DeleteBelated well wishes to the happy couple and good for them to take time off for a getaway to celebrate their special day. Yes, I M also keeping Mildred in my thoughts and prayers and even though we never met, she has become a special friend I met, like yourself, through blogging. We don’t have to have meet people to call them a friend, as many of us well know. Glad your recovery is coming along as I backgracked to read about your recent surgery, Pam.
ReplyDeletethank you so much, "Beatrice". (BTW, I love the Boyd's bears, and have a few little examples here and there). I am so happy to make your friendship here recently, and I look forward to getting to know you better as the days go by. I know Mildred would be happy that in a way she has brought us together, so I hope we can honor her by our new friendship and keep her memory alive when she departs this earth. And yes, I am recovering well and very thankful for that. God has been so kind and gracious. I hope you are having a wonderful Sunday today. Thank you again for reaching out to me!
DeleteForgot to add that the gift buying and wrapping done by yourself and the other ladies will really make so many children happy in a few weeks. Such a selfless activity and who does like shopping and wrapping gifts especially those to give away to make others smile.
ReplyDeleteI know the children will love the gifts...I really can't take any credit, although I contributed some money towards the gifts, but because of the physical issues I was having with my neck and arm I couldn't participate in the gift wrapping adventures or even the shopping. I am so thankful for the dedicated women we have who do make sure this happens and who sacrifice their time and labor to do so. We are blessed here with some beautiful people.
DeleteHappy Anniversary to them!!! I have to say it looks so pretty growing in the yard. I love the stack of gifts. What a great gift.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debby! It does look pretty, but it is invasive and not good for the trees, so I really would like to get it out of there, but I don't want to just destroy it. I may have to get creative...
DeleteHi, I was trying to find out some information on a Mildred Nalley that I blogged with but lost touch. She lived in Gainesville, Georgia. Is this the same one you mentioned in your post?
ReplyDeleteHi Ida. Yes, this is the same, but I am very sorry to say that she has since passed away. (11/20/2021) She and her husband had moved to S.C. last year, and then she became very ill with pancreatic cancer. She was a very dear and special lady, and she is very much missed by those who knew her.
