Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Monday Morning Praise
Good Monday Morning! It is the beginning of Thanksgiving week here in the United States...a week (day) set aside for giving thanks to God for all of His goodness and kindness and bountiful blessings. Of course, we should always give thanks to the Lord for all of His blessings and not wait for just one day or week of the year to do so...but I am glad that we do have this time designated to recognize our Creator God and all that He had done for us.
Our Pastor had a good message yesterday from Psalm 107.
And our choir sang a beautiful song (with a little help from the recorded background singers I must admit) entitled "Alleluia, Alleluia, Give Thanks to the Risen Lord."
You can hear and see it here:
Alleluia, alleluia, shout for joy loud and long
Alleluia, alleluia, sing to God a glorious new song.
Alleluia, alleluia! Give thanks to the risen Lord
Alleluia, alleluia! Give praise to his name!
Jesus is Lord of all the earth.
He is the King of creation.
Alleluia, alleluia! Give thanks for the risen Lord
Alleluia, alleluia! Give praise to his name!
Spread the good news o’er all the earth
Jesus has died and has risen.
We have been crucified with Christ
Now we shall live forever, forever.
Come let us praise the living God
Joyfully sing to the Savior.
Alleluia, alleluia! Give thanks to the risen Lord
Alleluia, alleluia! Give praise to his name!
Alleluia, alleluia, sing to God a glorious new song.
Maybe while you are listening to the music you can enjoy these photos of flowers around my yard, taken yesterday afternoon. I was surprised to find these azaleas blooming:
And these pretty different kinds of mums from a leftover pot from last fall:
Another pretty yellow mum:
And this swamp sunflower from alongside the pond:
And the hollyberries ripe and ready and waiting for the birds to come. However, we really don't have as many berries as we did last year, and so far no sign of the Robins or Cedar Waxwings that devoured them in a few days last November. The squirrels have been enjoying these in the meantime:
I have been surprised to see the geranium plant still blooming on the front porch:
And the little pot of Penta is still blooming too:
All these flowers give thanks to God every day with their colorful smiling "faces" looking heavenward.
Also it was fun to see the Great Blue Heron back in Still Waters Pond yesterday afternoon. We haven't seen him in a while, and it was good to see him standing there like a statue in the evening sun, watching for some unsuspecting fish or frog to provide his dinner.
But perhaps the most fun of all was the offerings of praise from these Sand Hill Cranes early yesterday morning.
Please click on each of these two videos to get the full picture. In the first video they are dancing their dance of praise. Be sure to turn on the sound so you can hear them singing in the 2nd video:
Even though their voices are not very melodious, I believe they are singing their praises to their Creator. Maybe this is their rendition of:
"Alleluia, alleluia, shout for joy loud and long
Alleluia, alleluia, sing to God a glorious new song.
Alleluia, alleluia! Give thanks to the risen Lord
Alleluia, alleluia! Give praise to his name!"
Listen to what the Psalmist says in praise to our God:
Let All Things Praise the Lord
Psalm 150
"1 Praise the Lord!
Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty firmament!
2 Praise Him for His mighty acts;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
3 Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;
Praise Him with the lute and harp!
4 Praise Him with the timbrel and dance;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
5 Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with clashing cymbals!
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord!"
Look around and see what you can hear and see singing and praising our Creator this week!
Happy Thanksgiving!

How sweet your flowers are. I'd be thrilled to find a geranium blooming on the porch. I am watching paperwhites and amaryllis going up and up every day.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love amaryllis and paperwhites, and we usually get one for Christmas to plant and watch. That was a tradition of my father to give each of the "girls" an amaryllis bulb to plant and watch it grow...then we plant them in the ground in the spring and they keep coming back! It's a wonderful tradition that I have tried to keep up since he died by getting one for each of the women in our immediate family for Christmas. I need to start looking for them before they are all gone! Enjoy yours...and take pictures when it blooms!
DeletePurdy pictures and a good message.
ReplyDeleteI hope y'all have a blessed Thanksgiving week.
Love in Christ. xx
Thank you Sparky. I'm glad you like my little flowers. I don't really have much of a flower garden growing, so I take pictures of individual flowers when they do bloom so I can enjoy looking at them again! Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving week too.
DeleteBeautiful flowers. So bright and lovely. I cannot remember if your heron stays all year or do they fly on to South America or somewhere? Florida is so warm so perhaps he stays all year.
DeletePenny, I think they stay here all year, but they just move around to different ponds and lakes. I love to watch them.
DeleteBeautiful...no flowers here, why? Its presently 32* (real feel is 25) and snowing at times, grin.
ReplyDeleteYikes, you are getting your winter early. We will go down in the 30's overnight tomorrow however and the next day too. But no snow! I was just talking to the "boys" tonight about when it snowed here in Florida in 1977. I was 8 months pregnant with Scott and the other two boys were like 4 and 5 1/2. We had just gone to church on a Wednesday night. John was in the FHP then, on duty. I had just gotten the boys' jackets off and the next people who came inside said it was snowing, and out they ran with no jackets. I ran outside too. It was coming down lightly...quite a sight for us in Orlando, FL. (where we lived then). I told Scott tonight he was jumping around inside of me kicking my belly and saying "I want to see the snow too!" But he didn't get to see it. He had to wait til we moved to Ohio when he was two. LOL.
DeleteOh yes! Always something to give praise for. The bright flowers you share sure help to brighten a rather dull day around here. Dull, as in grey overcast skies.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I am glad you enjoyed them. They brightened our day too. It was raining this morning, but is lovely now. Colder weather is coming, but nothing like your cold weather...
DeleteAlleluia, alleluia, indeed! As ever, seeing these images lift my spirits. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us, dear friend. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you enjoyed this and are singing along! I hope your hubby is doing well. Praying for you both. Happy Thanksgiving.
DeletePam: I enjoyed seeing the flowers in bloom. Azaleas blooming in November is a first for me. I went to the church to help out preparing for the Community Thanksgiving Dinner that is tomorrow. I rolled silver (plastic) ware in napkins. Peace and blessings to you and yours and Happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to hear that your church is having a Community Thanksgiving Dinner. I think that is wonderful, especially after so much isolation the past year, etc. That is a wonderful ministry. Thank you for doing your part. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with your son.
DeletePretty flowers and I LOVE the sound of the Sandhills. They command attention!! Lovely scriptures, Pam. I always enjoy my visits here! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri. Yes, those Sand Hill Cranes definitely command our attention! They are such fun to watch. Glad you enjoyed this. Hope your "long" day wasn't too bad!
