Monday Monday! Praise The Lord!

It's Monday morning, and a beautiful day so far!  I was just outside walking around and watering my plants, and I could hear the birds singing in the treetops so sweetly!  I love how they always lift up their voices in praise to their Creator every morning! It's truly a wonderful sound!!

I don't have any new bird pictures to go along with this, but I will just post the pictures that I did take while I was outside...

All Creatures of Our God and King
(St. Francis of Assisi originated this song in 1225)

1. All creatures of our God and King,
Lift up your voice and with us sing
Alleluia, alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam,
Thou silver moon with softer gleam,
O praise him, O praise him,
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Our small bottlebrush bush finally blooming after about 4 years of watching it grow!

The Zucchini and Yellow Squash plants are growing, but I think they need some fertilizer. I thought the potting soil we bought had some in it, but apparently not much.  But still, they are growing. I have to water them every day.

The "Beefsteak" tomato plants are growing also...

2. Thou rushing winds that art so strong,
Ye clouds that sail in Heav'n along,
O praise him, alleluia!
Thou rising morn, in praise rejoice,
Ye lights of evening, find a voice.
O praise him, O praise him,
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

It's a sunny, breezy beautiful day! God Bless America!!

3. And all ye saints of tender heart,
Forgiving others, take your part,
O sing ye, alleluia!
Ye who long pain and sorrow bear,
Praise God and on him cast your care:
O praise him, O praise him,
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Blackie and I enjoyed some "Secret Memorial Garden" Bench time together. It was so pleasant this morning.

This picture was taken earlier this morning...Even though I put my purse on that chair to keep him from getting on it, he got up there anyway.  He definitely has a mind of his own, but I keep trying to teach him. Not long after this picture was taken he woke up and was sweetly "removed" to another location.

4. Let all things their creator bless,
And worship him in humbleness,
O praise him, alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
And praise the Spirit, Three in One:
O praise him, O praise him,
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

This rose was blooming in the garden, but it needed to come inside where we could enjoy it. It will last much longer in here, and I love to "stop and smell the roses" every time I pass by.

Another thing to praise God about: The Blueberry Farm is open and they have beautiful lucious blueberries!  This was our first batch. I will go back and get more to freeze, but I wanted to enjoy these while they are fresh picked right from the farm...

And so we had homemade Blueberry Muffins this morning:

Along with some scrambled eggs and cantaloupe:

I went outside and checked on my blueberry bush that I've had for a few years, and it is really loaded with berries too! I really wonder about this drought we are in...and the cold winter we had...some things are actually growing better. Of course, I do water them almost every day...

This is the whole bush. It is loaded with berries that are still ripening! What fun!

Now I have another story to tell you that is really strange... The other day our AC started not cooling properly...Yes, we've had days warm enough to need the AC already. This is Florida.  We've often needed AC on Christmas day!  Anyway, it was actually Easter Sunday, after everyone had left after a lovely afternoon, and I noticed that our thermostat was registering a temperature that was several degrees higher than it should be.  So I sent a text message to our AC repairman asking him to call us in the morning, which he did.  He came over Monday morning to check it out, and couldn't quite figure out what was going on with it, and said he would have to come back later in the week when he had more time to take it apart and look it over really well. Thankfully it is still under warranty, but he did remind us that we would have to pay the labor charges.  We understood that, but we were concerned about  him having to "take it apart" and needing more time to figure it out...but he assured us he would be fair. He's a good man and is always fair, so we weren't too worried.

So you may wonder what this towel is.  Well, on the day that he came back and took apart the the unit, he found this towel in the bottom of the outside air handler...

Yes, down inside this unit:

That was pretty astounding.  He said that somehow it had been sucked through the ductwork into the outside unit! What????? How could that happen?  He said he's seen some pretty strange things before in AC units, but this was pretty unusual.  After I thought about it, I remembered a day when I was changing the filter on the AC unit inside, and I had a little "accident".  This shelf unit below sits beside the cold air return/filter...

Do you see what is on those shelves? Yes, Towels. Those are mostly old towels that our son uses when he comes home and is dirty from mowing or working on his car, or we use them for dirty clean up jobs, etc.   Do you also see that gallon of bleach on top of the shelf? Well, here's the story that I figured out must've happened  to somehow get that towel inside the ductwork:

One day I was going to change the AC Filter. In order to do that I have to pull that shelf unit out away from it so I can open up the grill in front of the filter.  On that particular day I was in a hurry I guess, and I neglected to remove the gallon of bleach from the top of the shelf (along with the other items up there) before I tried to move the shelf.  When I did that, the shelf shifted in my hands and the gallon of bleach fell to the ground and burst open, splashing bleach all over me and everything around it. Thankfully this is the laundry room and there was nothing of any great value that could be harmed, but it just made a huge mess as you can imagine. I was grabbing those towels and mopping up the bleach (you should see the outfit I was wearing...talk about a tie-dye look with unusual bleach splash patterns all over me. Thankfully I was wearing my old house clothes...nothing good!)  Anyway, apparently I had already opened the grill over the filter and big cold air return duct before this happened...I don't totally remember all the details because it was such a big mess! But apparently one of those dry towels fell into the open duct, and it was eventually sucked all the way through to the AC unit outside.  This happened over a year ago, and so it took that long to travel!  There are some small bleach stains on the towel, so that was my clue as to what must've happened!

Anyway...thankfully it didn't do any permanent  harm to the AC unit, and once it was removed everything started working properly again. And thankfully all we owed was a service call amount, which wasn't too bad all things considered! Whew!!! Praise God it didn't do damage to the unit, because that most likely would NOT have been covered by the warranty!!

UPDATE:  Someone reminded me that I may have blogged about the bleach spill before, so I looked it up and sure enough, HERE IT IS!  Thank you, Martha Jane Orlando of Meditations of My Heart, for having a good memory!!

So now we are nice and cool as a cucumber and thanking God for His mercy! And I will be more patient when changing the filter from now on for sure!!!!!

Psalm 150 NKJV

Let All Things Praise the Lord

1 Praise the Lord!

Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty firmament!

2 Praise Him for His mighty acts;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!

3 Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;
Praise Him with the lute and harp!
4 Praise Him with the timbrel and dance;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
5 Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with clashing cymbals!

6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord!

Monday Morning Praise

Good Monday Morning! It is the beginning of Thanksgiving week here in the United States...a week (day) set aside for giving thanks to God for all of His goodness and kindness and bountiful blessings. Of course, we should always give thanks to the Lord for all of His blessings and not wait for just one day or week of the year to do so...but I am glad that we do have this time designated to recognize our Creator God and all that He had done for us.

Our Pastor had a good message yesterday from Psalm 107.
And our choir sang a beautiful song (with a little help from the recorded background singers I must admit) entitled "Alleluia, Alleluia, Give Thanks to the Risen Lord."
You can hear and see it here:

Alleluia, alleluia, shout for joy loud and long
Alleluia, alleluia, sing to God a glorious new song.

Alleluia, alleluia! Give thanks to the risen Lord
Alleluia, alleluia! Give praise to his name!

Jesus is Lord of all the earth.
He is the King of creation.

Alleluia, alleluia! Give thanks for the risen Lord
Alleluia, alleluia! Give praise to his name!

Spread the good news o’er all the earth
Jesus has died and has risen.
We have been crucified with Christ
Now we shall live forever, forever.

Come let us praise the living God
Joyfully sing to the Savior.

Alleluia, alleluia! Give thanks to the risen Lord
Alleluia, alleluia! Give praise to his name!
Alleluia, alleluia, sing to God a glorious new song.

Maybe while you are listening to the music you can enjoy these photos of flowers around my yard, taken yesterday afternoon.  I was surprised to find these azaleas blooming:

And these pretty different kinds of mums from a leftover pot from last fall:

Another pretty yellow mum:

And this swamp sunflower from alongside the pond:

And the hollyberries ripe and ready and waiting for the birds to come. However, we really don't have as many berries as we did last year, and so far no sign of the Robins or Cedar Waxwings that devoured them in a few days last November. The squirrels have been enjoying these in the meantime:

I have been surprised to see the geranium plant still blooming on the front porch:

And the little pot of Penta is still blooming too:

All these flowers give thanks to God every day with their colorful smiling "faces" looking heavenward.

Also it was fun to see the Great Blue Heron back in Still Waters Pond yesterday afternoon. We haven't seen him in a while, and it was good to see him standing there like a statue in the evening sun, watching for some unsuspecting fish or frog to provide his dinner.

But perhaps the most fun of all was the offerings of praise from these Sand Hill Cranes early yesterday morning.

Please click on each of these two videos to get the full picture.  In the first video they are dancing their dance of praise.  Be sure to turn on the sound so you can hear them singing in the 2nd video:

Even though their voices are not very melodious, I believe they  are singing their praises to their Creator. Maybe this is their rendition of:

"Alleluia, alleluia, shout for joy loud and long
Alleluia, alleluia, sing to God a glorious new song.

Alleluia, alleluia! Give thanks to the risen Lord
Alleluia, alleluia! Give praise to his name!"

Listen to what the Psalmist says in praise to our God:

Let All Things Praise the Lord

Psalm 150
"1 Praise the Lord!
Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty firmament!
2 Praise Him for His mighty acts;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
3 Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;
Praise Him with the lute and harp!
4 Praise Him with the timbrel and dance;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
5 Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with clashing cymbals!
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord!"

Look around and see what you can hear and see singing and praising our Creator  this week!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Thursday Blessings And Friday Fotos

 It is Thursday afternoon, and I am just feeling so blessed! Look what I saw outside my window on the porch railing yesterday afternoon:

This just blessed my heart so much...that God would send that beautiful butterfly right here for me to enjoy from my "room with a view"...one of His special winged messengers of love and peace...

This picture doesn't do it justice, but those maple trees on the other side of Still Waters Pond are getting more and more colorful every day.  Another of God's special blessings.

As I looked from our front porch I could see the tall magnolia tree standing across the street, and I noticed something red on it. So of course I had to go have a closer look!
These are the magnolia seeds that develop on the "cones" after the tree is finished blooming for the summer. Another of God's autumn beauties!

Oh, back across Still Waters Pond I noticed these two Sand Hill Cranes walking around one evening. I do hope they will come back and stay...and perhaps decide to build their nest here on our pond this year.

In our own yard these Holly trees are so full of berries this year...I wonder if that is a sign of a cold winter? I don't remember having so many holly berries on these trees last year.

These are getting redder every day.

People keep remarking about our cornstalks growing under the bird feeder!
This one in particular is getting taller every day.
Upon closer inspection, I noticed that it is actually growing an ear of corn in the middle of the stalk! Wow! We may have our own corn crop yet, thanks to our bird seed!

Ever since we put the roof over our back deck I've been wanting to hang out this windchime that was a gift in memory of our son Matthew. I've kept it here inside beside my desk because there was no good place to hang it outside until now.

Now I can see it from my "open window" in my "room with a view", and possibly even hear it chime  when the wind blows. I'm not sure how well I will hear it with the windows closed, but it will be a delight when we are sitting out on the porch this fall.

Yesterday we went grocery shopping at Publix, and I saw this mug for sale. Since this is my birthday week I justified my buying it for myself. Hubby was there with me and said to go ahead and add it to my birthday gifts. I love these mugs that have something positive to say.

This one says:
"The whole world is a series of miracles,
but we're so used to them we call them
ordinary things."
Hans Christian Anderson

I am grateful for the "ordinary things" that truly are God's miracles sent to bless us each day.

Like breakfast on the porch overlooking Still Waters Pond with my hubby.

And grateful for the miracle of beautiful skies, created by the Master Designer, God Himself, with such amazing strokes of His paintbrush...

This was the scene in the skies last evening when we were headed for our walk...

I wish you could have seen the actual rainbow of colors around that sun shining through the clouds.

But then, not to be outdone, this morning's sunrise was also another beauty to behold:

Photos taken from our front porch as the sun was peeking up above the trees.

And then this glorious swirl of pinks and blues in the skies overhead before the clouds moved in and covered it back up.  You had to be quick to see this masterpiece this morning! I'm so glad the Lord nudged me to take a look out the front door before it was too late! In another minute I would have missed this blessing!

Yes, like the quote on the mug said,

"The whole world is a series of miracles,
but we're so used to them we call them
ordinary things."

Hans Christian Anderson

Friday Foto Friends: Thanksgiving Blessings

Well, Friends, today (writing on Thursday) was Thanksgiving, and I'm sure most of you gathered around your table with loved ones and friends and enjoyed a day filled with feasting and blessings.  I thought about you today...as I was still preparing for our Thanksgiving Feast, which will be on Friday...so when you read this Friday morning I will be busily cooking our turkey, peeling potatoes, and getting things ready for our family gang of approximately 21 people arriving for dinner!  That's right...while you are out shopping on Black Friday (for those of you who dare to brave the crowds) we will be sitting down to a wonderful feast, enjoying the laughter and joys of the day that hopefully you already celebrated today!   While you were feasting on turkey and all the trimmings, I was arranging our table for tomorrow (Friday) and doing all the last minute cleaning and other projects that should have been done sooner...

So as I write this tonight, Thursday, while you have already cleaned up your tables and put away all the leftovers...I'm just getting primed and ready:

 I wanted to mention this cut glass turkey dish above.  Our neighbor behind the fence gave this to me...no, he didn't leave it on the fence post as he has other items lately. He brought this over himself to give me, as it belonged to his mother (who is now in a nursing home, suffering from Alzheimer's). He said that he remembers her always putting the cranberry sauce in this dish...and so that is my plan for tomorrow...and yes, our neighbor will be a guest here at our table. I think he is really looking forward to seeing that dish filled with sauce again the way his mother did. I am honored and pleased to be able to do so.  I'll try to remember to take a picture of it when it is filled.

As I said, we are expecting 21 people, so these are the tables...and yes, folks, I am using paper and plastic. I honestly thought about using real dishes, as I do have enough of the blue Currier and Ives plates, but the family wants to have more time to visit and enjoy each other, and not so much time cleaning up...so paper and plastic will be just fine with me.

This is the scene in the foyer as you enter the house:

"Welcome to our neck of the woods...where life is good...Fresh Air, Star Gazing, Quiet Spaces"

Here is the table that is set in the living room..."the kids' table", but the youngest kid is 13 and the oldest kid is 24, plus a few more of the next generation will join them...

I love this little couple of praying children...

Back to the foyer again...Please be sure to sign in on the guest book!

Okay, one last look at the tables in the dining room, where the "older adults" will be sitting...

One more thing...our son the "baker" is baking the family tradition specialty: Orange Cookies. This was a special recipe of my mother's, and she always baked these cookies anytime the family was gathering. Now her grandchildren carry on that tradition whenever the family gets together.  Click HERE for more about the history and significance of these cookies.   Everyone will be thrilled to enjoy these cookies when we get together tomorrow (Friday).

This morning (Thursday), we took a walk at the break of day.  This was something amazing...our little apple tree in the front yard has a blossom...

And a bud of another!  We have never had any apples on this tree, probably because we don't have the right kind of "mate" tree to cross-pollinate. But it has provided us with lovely little blossoms at the strangest times. I am counting this as one of my Thanksgiving blessings today...

 Also, as we were starting out on our walk, I noticed this woodpecker way up in the tree. Actually there are two of them here, but you really can't see the other. I knew this was a different kind of woodpecker from the ones we usually see...I believe this is a Northern Flicker.  They are not here all of the time, so I was especially excited to see them today! Another Thanksgiving blessing!

As we began our walk, I looked up at the sky and this is what I saw....

And by the time we came back to our yard from our walk, this is how the sun appeared, breaking through the clouds:
I knew it was going to be a glorious day...and it was!

In our devotions we read Psalm 150:

"1.  Praise the Lord!
Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty firmament!
2.  Praise Him for His mighty acts;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
3.  Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;
Praise Him with the lute and harp!
4.  Praise Him with the timbrel and dance;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
5.  Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with clashing cymbals!
6.  Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord!"

One more special thing happened this week.  We celebrated the birthday of our dear friend Sharon, who is battling lung cancer. Many of you have prayed for her throughout this past year, and she is most appreciative and thankful for your prayers, as are we, her friends.  She didn't want any big celebration for her birthday as she tires so quickly. So hubby and I took over some dinner for her and her sister (current caregiver) and her son.  We had a very special time together.
Here is Sharon, holding up the candles. We didn't have cake as she doesn't eat sweets...but we still had to sing!

And here, something that is so typical when I spend time with Sharon...she always finds a way to bless me, instead of me being the one doing the giving.  Here my hubby and I and Sharon are holding up a lovely quilted vintage tablecloth, which was quilted by one of her sisters. It is a lovely wall-hanging, and I am waiting to hang it in our new house in a place of honor.  The back story is that Sharon's sister made this for her, but Sharon is in the process of cleaning out her home and giving away treasures to special friends and family. So this is a very bittersweet time and gift. Her sister suggested that she give it to me, and I am so very humbled and blessed to receive this gift. I will always treasure it, as I treasure this very wonderful friend that God blessed me with several years ago. I believe we have only known each other about ten years, but it seems as though we've known each other forever. Some friendships are like that, aren't they? They don't happen often, but when they do, it is always a gift to be thankful for. Sharon has been a gift to our family from God, and so on this Thanksgiving day, I want to give thanks to the Lord for His blessing to us.

Okay, dear Friday Foto Friends...while you are enjoying your day after Thanksgiving, I'll be enjoying a wonderful visit with my brother and his family from N.C., and my sister and her family from here in Florida, along with our kids and our neighbor and some other precious friends. God is good...all the time, God is good!

Now let's go join our other Friday Foto Friends over at Deb's place at Breathing in Grace.  Have a blessed and wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!!
