Sunday GRACE

Good Sunday Morning! (It is actually after NOON now, but I started out trying to write this morning, but ran out of time!  That time change messes me up every time!  Hopefully everyone set their clocks ahead last night and you made it to church on time!  We did, but my body time clock is all messed up and it takes a while to adjust.  It's 12:09 DLS time, but my body tells me it is still 11:09 a.m.   (and after several interruptions, it is now 3:06 pm before this is published!)

Anywho...We had a good service at church today. Only one dear soul walked in at the closing, having forgotten to set her clocks...but she was heartily welcomed as soon as the pastor gave the benediction! She was laughing, and we were all just glad to see her, no matter what time she arrived!

Our choir sang a beautiful song this morning, entitled "Grace". I hope you will enjoy listening to it, and reading along with the words. They are so meaningful. I am giving you two options for listening...this first video is from the internet, and it is so beautifully done, with the lyrics on the screen as as it is being sung.

Grace, by Carolyn Hamlin

"Lord, as I seek your guidance for the day,
I find my thoughts unyielding; confusion crowds my way;
But then when I bow to you, the challenges you guide me through.
Your promises are ever new, I claim them for today.

Your will cannot lead me where your grace will not keep me.
Your hand will protect me, I rest in your care.
Your eyes will watch over me, your love will forgive me,
And when I am faltering, I still will find you there.

Each new day’s design is charted by your hand,
and graciously revealed as I seek your Master plan.
Keep my footsteps faithful when from you I go.
Return me to the joy that your blessings can bestow.

Your will cannot lead me where your grace will not keep me.
Your hand will protect me, I rest in your care.
Your eyes will watch over me, your love will forgive me,
And when I am faltering, I still will find you there.

Your eyes will watch over me, your love will forgive me,
And when I am faltering, I still will find you there."

This second video is from our church choir, followed by our Pastor's sermon from James 4:13-5:12, which was excellent.  I wanted to include both videos, because the first one has the lyrics so you can fully appreciate the song as you hear it. Also, our choir was missing several members when we practiced and recorded the song this past week,  including me. I was not feeling well that evening, so I missed choir rehearsal. But even without several members, our choir still did a lovely job of singing it. I hope you will enjoy the words as well as the melody.

I recently learned a wonderful acrostic from our Pastor for remembering the true meaning of the word GRACE:

God's
 Riches
 At
 Christ's
 Expense

Christ paid for our salvation with His own blood, and gave us eternal life as a free gift. That is GRACE. We cannot earn it nor did we deserve it. It is totally a gift from God. It is up to us to accept it, however. You know, no gift, no matter how wonderful, will do us any good if we don't accept it.  Something to think about!

Now, on another note, I think our Bluebird family has flown the coop, or birdhouse, that is.  This is what we discovered early this morning:

It looks like the nest is being pulled out of the hole, and there are no birds in sight.

I asked Mr. and Mrs. Canada Goose if they had seen or heard anything unusual,
but they just turned their heads and ignored me and kept eating their breakfast, acting as if nothing was different at all.

Yesterday morning Mr. Bluebird sat in the tree nearby and let me take his picture:

Isn't he beautiful?

I am thinking he was sitting there to watch the nest, and didn't even seem to mind that I was right nearby. Maybe because he knew the babies were getting ready to come out and he couldn't take his eyes off the nest.

But I must admit to being a bit disappointed. I had hoped to get to see the babies before they left.
But when I got home from church today, this is how the nest looked...
No sign of any activity around it. Could the babies have flown that soon? Or do the parents move them to somewhere else to teach them to fly? I need to do some reading about the activities of Bluebirds, I guess.  I hope a predator didn't invade the nest and make them move away prematurely.  I have a lot to learn, I guess. I'm kind of thinking something happened, because it seems like we should have seen the babies before they left. Hmmm...

Some thoughts come to mind from the book of
  I Peter 5:5-9

"5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for
“God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.”

6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,
7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world."

Perhaps Mr. Bluebird was watching for any predators that might be lurking about...I know he chased off some Blue Jays several times. I don't know, but I hope Mr. and Mrs. Bluebird are safe somewhere and that they will be steadfast in their "faith" and keep persevering.

I believe we should take heart...God notices and takes care of the "sparrows" (and bluebirds) of life, and if so, He will also take care of us.
Luke 12:6-7
6 “Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God.
7 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows."

Back to refrain in the song, "Grace":

"Your will cannot lead me where your grace will not keep me.
Your hand will protect me, I rest in your care.
Your eyes will watch over me, your love will forgive me,
And when I am faltering, I still will find you there."

That is a beautiful thought to close this post. Let's leave it right there.
Amen.

  1. The time change always messes me up to. I'm so sorry the little bluebirds seem to be gone. I was really looking forward to seeing the babies. Let us know what else you find out. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and have a great week!

    1. Thank you Martha. Yes, I think the bluebird family has met with a calamity of some sort. I feel very sad for the parents. Perhaps they will start over again. I may need to do something to protect their nest better so predators can't get inside. Other than that disappointment, it was a very good day. I hope you have a blessed and wonderful rest of your week as well.

  2. I think the pulled-out nest isn't a good sign. I hope I'm wrong. We used to put a can with both ends removed around the hole, or a leftover piece of pvc pipe, to keep animals from fishing out the eggs or babies. But it doesn't stop snakes unfortunately.

    1. Oh dear, I am sad to think that is what happened, but I am thinking you may be right. I am going to watch for a day or two to be sure they are gone, and then I will clean it out and rig up something like you said to protect the entrance. I know a squirrel kept climbing up on top of the house and looking inside...maybe he was able to reach in and get them. I never thought about snakes, but I guess that is possible too. We do live in Florida... Thank you for the idea. I will try to figure that out.

  3. Pamela, I loved the acrostic your pastor gave you all, so much so that I wrote it down for future reference. I do hope the bluebirds are okay, too. Maybe, the little ones have flown the coop, so to speak. One can only hope they did that and are all safe and sound somewhere.
Thanks for the photos and all the inspiration packed into your post here.
    Blessings!

    1. Thank you, Martha Jane. I am glad you appreciated the acrostic. I really liked that way of remembering the word GRACE too. As far as the bluebirds go, I am feeling kind of "blue". I think something must have gotten the eggs or babies. I think I need to rig up something to keep predators out of the house after I clean it out and get it ready for the next family. I do hope they will come back, but I wouldn't blame them if they didn't. Sometimes nature isn't very kind. But it is a fact of life, unfortunately.

  4. What a beautiful song, "Grace"! Yes, I watched and enjoyed both videos. At first I thought the (first one's) intro was an oboe, but no. A trumpet? (My in-house music major's dozing.) The acrostic is a keeper, that's for sure.
I'm trying not to worry about the bluebird's nest. Like it would do any good? (lol) Better I cling to His promise, Let not your heart be troubled.

    1. Thank you, Myra. Now I am listening to that video again to see if I can figure out the instrument at the beginning. It was very pretty. I will let you know if I can find it out. Regarding the bluebirds...I fear they have met with a calamity. I hope Mr. and Mrs. Bluebird are safe somewhere, but I am afraid their eggs/babies are gone. I am going to watch for a day or two before cleaning out the birdhouse, and then I am going to rig up something to keep predators out. We have to be diligent in keeping the "predators" of this life from gaining entrance into our homes/hearts/minds. God is all powerful, but we have to do our part to resist the enemies of our soul. So yes, cling to God's promises, and keep our hearts tuned into the Lord. That will keep us safe. I am enjoying listening to this song again. Still not sure about the instrument. I need to ask my hubby. I will let you know what he thinks. Ok, he thinks it is an oboe. He knows more about instruments than I do. So I will agree with him. Let me know if your music major has a better idea!!

  5. I hate to say it, but it sure looks like some predator reached in and pulled out the babies/eggs and nest material . I would suggest cleaning out the nest and just maybe they will try again.

    1. That's what I am thinking too. I am going to clean it out in a day or two, just to be sure the parents don't come back, which I don't think they will. Maybe a new family will show up...we shall see.

    1. Thank you, Vee. I hope so too. I kind of think something happened to the babies, and the parents are probably looking for a new home. I don't know. That is nature...

  7. Lovely post, just like always, my friend! EXCEPT for not knowing the fate of the bluebirds. I feel so bad for them if something indeed did happen and hurt them or chased them away. But maybe, just maybe, they simply fledged and the little babies tumbled out one by one and tested their little wings and soared up and away, under the watchful eye of their parents and it was a happy ending. So hard to see them go either way, I know you were enjoying them as we are ours. Ours ARE NOT nesting in the box houses provided, they are very stubborn. They are HERE THOUGHH and nesting somewhere else close as they are around all day long and they love enjoying the little treats we put out for them. Great idea!!---to rig up something to prevent predators getting in, I am pretty sure I read bluebirds have more than one group of babies per season?---so maybe they will come back.Or a new family will move in. I think I read hummingbirds have many eggs/babies per season, and they insist on building a new fresh nest for each group. Glad you are feeling better, happy new week to you and it sure was a pretty Sunday here. Hugs!

    1. Oh, I just read this comment after I answered your other. I guess you already knew about the bluebirds. No sign of them today. I don't know what happened but I feel sad about them. I hope they are okay, but I think the babies are probably gone... I will clean out the house after a couple of days and see if any other birds come back. I am fine...just a tummy bug and a little dizzy last week, but I am fine now. Praise God. Hope you have a wonderful week too, my friend.

  8. PS--I sure enjoyed the previous post too! Loved seeing your Ladies Group and they sure look like a fun bunch for sure! so glad y'all got together. The lady wearing the mask---she reminds me of my Mother! I miss her an awful lot. Love the pictures of the Pond and all the pretty ducks and birds that live there so happily and peacefully. You get some great pictures, especially the bluebird one from today's post. That is a beautiful picture and so bright. Oh---we got one of those "sock thingies" like you have. We didn't hang it up yet and not even sure if we have those birds here, but we hope to attract some and if not....maybe the others will enjoy it. I forget---did you get another sock after the racoon or not?? I love seeing the pictures of the pretty church, I love sweet and vintage churches like that one. They have history and they have memories.

    1. Yes, we do have a sweet group of ladies, and they are all so happy to be back together after such a long year. Many are feeling safer since they've had their vaccinations, and they don't want to stay cooped up anymore. I know you miss your mother...I totally understand that...I miss mine too. Our mothers will always have a place in our hearts. Yes, we did get another sock after the raccoon, and it hasn't been bothered since, so I don't know what happened, but they birds are back and they are happy. But we seem to have lost our bluebirds...see my next post. Thank you for visiting and for ALL you do to brighten my day!!!!

  12. Blue birds are so pretty. We have several nesting around the yard now. They're such a welcome sight. My favorite wild bird is the Carolina Wren. Their song is so pretty and it's nice how they pick the house clean of insects and spiders. They are God's little clean up crew. *lol*
I hope your day is blessed! xx
