Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Still Small Voice
It's been a quiet week here at Still Waters Pond. I haven't been out much...no rides in the kayak yet this week...just keeping cool and calm and away from the noise of the world as much as possible. Probably a good thing for us all to do. The noise of the world is getting louder and louder, and it is becoming more difficult to hear that "still small voice" of God in the midst of the tumult.
One other day I heard the very loud voice of this Red Shouldered Hawk in the top of this very tall dead pine tree...
He was declaring his sovereignty over the woods surrounding his perch above the tree tops...
But the most wonderful experience of the this week happened this morning as we took our walk. I could hardly believe my eyes as I saw this gorgeous Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly flitting about from bush to bush...
This lovely creature was at least as wide if not wider than the span of my hand, and just so graceful and beautiful as it fluttered from one place to another. I tiptoed ever so quietly up behind it, hoping it would stay still long enough for me to capture a few good photographs.
I Kings 19:11-12 "Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice."
I stood out on the back deck early one morning and enjoyed this beautiful full moon reflecting on the pond. It was so peaceful there...just me and the frogs croaking and no other noise for a little while...a good time to pause and thank the Lord for His Presence in our lives and invite Him to be with us throughout the day.
And then another morning the sun was rising out in the east, as I stood on the front deck of the house and went through the morning ritual of putting out our flag and thanking the Lord for the blessing of living in a free country, and praying that it remains so forever.
Another morning I baked some more of those good Blueberry Bran Muffins (Recipe can be found HERE), and sat out on the back deck and enjoyed listening to the birds sing while I "Rejoice In Each New Day" (my favorite morning tea mug). and listened for that "still small voice" of God to begin my day.
Psalm 46:10
"Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!"
and then again, this morning I heard the familiar loud call of this Red Bellied Woodpecker high up in that same tree, declaring it was time to rise and shine!
One day while we were walking I spied this very young little bunny, quietly nibbling on some grass alongside the road. He was listening very attentively to the sounds around him as he ate his "salad", and as soon as he detected my presence he was off "quick like a bunny" back into the safety of the woods.
And, thankfully it did oblige me. I whispered my thanks to this magnificent creature, and then gave thanks and praise to our Magnificent Creator, our Lord and God, who created all of the beauty that we see around us every day.
I know the news has been disturbing to many of us, and I even had a dear friend ask me for prayer because she was becoming overcome with fear and anxiety and slipping into depression because of the current state of the world. I can understand her feelings all too well. If we didn't have the Lord with us and on our side, how would be be able to cope in this constant deluge of turbulence?
That reminds me of Psalm 124, which says:
1. "If it had not been the Lord who was on our side,"
Let Israel now say--
2. "If it had not been the Lord who was on our side,
When men rose up against us,
3. Then they would have swallowed us alive,
When their wrath was kindled against us;
4. Then the waters would have overwhelmed us,
The stream would have gone over our soul;
5. Then the swollen waters would have gone over our soul."
6. Blessed be the Lord,
Who has not given us as prey to their teeth.
7. Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers;
The snare is broken, and we have escaped.
8. Our help is in the name of the Lord,
who made heaven and earth."
Let us "Be Still and know that I Am God",
and listen for that
"still small voice" as He whispers our name and reminds us that He is still on our side, and that He is our help and shield. We need not fear what man may do to us.
Praise God!

You certainly live in an area where you can enjoy all of God's beautiful creations, and thank you for letting us enjoy them too.
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming along with me as we listen together for God's Still Small Voice. When we can tune out the noise of the world and listen for His calming voice, we will be able to face whatever comes our way. (((hugs)))
DeleteOnce again, Pam, your words and your photos have lifted my spirits! And oh, that butterfly! How fortunate that you not only saw it, but were able to get its picture to share with all of us. Let us continue to pray for one another as we traverse these troubling times, and ask God to preserve and protect our nation.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Thank you, Martha. I know it is getting harder and hard to discern God's voice in the midst of the strife of the world, so we have to train our ears and eyes to look for Him and let Him be our "hiding place" as we pray for our nation.
DeleteI agree with your other commenters...once again, your words and wisdom have lifted my spirits. Thank you...and I did leave a comment at FB, grin. smiles
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. I think about you and pray for you every day as you deal with the issues of your region. May God continue to guide you in your search for the next step of your journey. (((hugs)))
DeleteWhat an inspiring post. There is so much bad news and it's hard not to worry about it all but we need our faith and hope to see us through. I would not make it without God's help, that's for sure. I walked this morning on the Florida trails and thought of you. They are taking areas and planting all kinds of native plants. You could probably ID a lot of them! Enjoy your day! Stay cool!
ReplyDeleteOh, Diane, I would LOVE to walk those trail with you and we could ID the plants together! What a fun time that would be. I hope you took some pictures. I will be watching for them. Yes, that is a wonderful way to cope and escape the noise of the world...just get out there in God's beautiful part of the world and commune with Him in the midst of His creation. It is a true balm for the sore soul. Thank you for visiting and sharing these thoughts with me.
DeleteAll I can say is that I echo the words of the others. It does my heart good to visit you here.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cecelia. If we can't walk together in person, we can walk together in spirit and through pictures, and still be blessed, because I believe the Lord is with us as we gather right here. He knows what we need and when we need it! Blessings to you dear friend.
DeleteThank you, Sandi. I love your heart!
ReplyDeleteThe butterfly is magnificent and the details shout of our Lord's creation. I think we Christians better take praying very seriously these days. I have been working on every time I get that crazy feeling of anxiety with the noise of the world to get on my knees or go to the Word. It is helping. We have to tune out the crazy. I have read several good posts and listened to a wonderful video by Anne Graham Lotz this week. This was another.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sandy. I honestly have not had much energy for writing lately because I think all this "stuff" is dragging me down. So I prayed this morning that God would take over and show me what to write...and this is what happened. He provided the details as well as the pictures to take. I love it when HIS plan comes together! BTW, I just went and looked back at your Auburn house posts. What a lovely home and a great place for the family to be together for games, etc. It truly is a beautiful place! I enjoyed reading about it! I would love the fall leaves, etc. too. I miss them so much. Thank you for visiting here today. God bless you my friend.
DeleteThat butterfly is just beyond beautiful. They are amazing insects. I love visiting your blog, Pam, because I always find peace here. Thank you for that!!
ReplyDeleteOh Terri, thank the Lord for that! He provided the "pictures" for me to "snap". I honestly had nothing this morning until He showed me that He had been providing things all week long to share...and then He led me to the scriptures that filled in the rest of the story. I love it when HIS plan comes together (when I get out of the way)! Thank you, Terri. Blessings dear friend.
DeleteThank you so much for your nice words. And what a large butterfly!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Aritha! Yes, I was amazed to see it, and such a perfect one! It really blessed my day!!
DeleteThank you for these beautiful pictures and Bible verses. It is peaceful to visit with you here and a reminder to enjoy the Lord's beautiful world and to listen to his voice in the midst of these troubled times.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mildred. We all seem to be needing to find that place of peace these days. I am thankful for the ways the Lord shows us that He is here with us and His peace is always available.
DeleteI'm with you, I try to stay away from the ugliness that seems to be everywhere these days. I know it's there and I pray daily for it all, but I'm not going to let it consume me ~ my faith, my victory is in Christ Jesus. I will vote, and I will support what I feel in my heart is right, but I will never stop listening for His voice and looking to Him for guidance, wisdom, peace and comfort. ((hugs)) and Blessings!
ReplyDeleteAmen, Mary!!yes, our hope is in the Lord. That is where we need to focus our energies and prayers...God is in control and He is not going to let go of His children. Thank you for always being that voice of reason and faith.
DeletePam, thank you for sharing a glimpse into one of your days. Yes, it's becoming more challenging to hear God's still, small voice; this is a time when we need it the most. Though it's hard to see it now, this is but a small little blip on the timeline of eternity. God sees, knows, hears, and cares.
ReplyDeleteMay we, God's people rise above the chaos all around us!
Love and blessings!
Amen, Kim! We can rise above this chaos when we put our faith and trust in the Lord, and lean not unto our own understanding. He will guide us safely "home". Thank you.
DeleteBeautiful, encouraging post today Pamela. I love all your photos. How wonderful to be able to sit or stand and enjoy the sky from the front of your home or the back of your home. How wonderful to take a walk and find the beauty all around. I'm so glad the swallowtail butterfly obliged you. It sounds like a huge one and is very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joyful! It was a joyful experience to be certain...all of the above! When I think I don't have anything to share or that nothing special has been happening, I just have to roll back through the pictures from the week and see How God was there all the time, encouraging me from day to day. Every day can be special when we have the Lord with us! Sometimes we just need to stop and listen for that "still small voice". Have a blessed day my friend!
DeleteYes, looking around us there is much to be worried about, but when we look up to God we can have peace. I love that butterfly, he is such a beauty.
