So, in honor of this great occasion, I decided to use my little "Buster Brown" Tea Set and invite my teddy bear friends for a tea party.(Click HERE for a little more history on this tea set)
This antique child's tea set originally belonged to my mother's oldest sister, my Aunt Margie. My mother remembers playing with this tea set when she was a child, and when my Aunt Margie passed away, my mother was given the set. My mother knew of my love for having tea parties, and she promised it to me when she passed away, and so now I have it. I have actually shared a part of the set with my sister so that we both could enjoy it. One of these days I would love for my sister to bring her little cup and saucer and whatever else she has over to my house and we will have a little tea party together like we did as children. (Perhaps when she gets around to retiring one of these days!)
(Remember my "One Word" for 2020 is "joyful" ? So this is one way to be "joyful", by "enjoying the little things".)
You may wonder about this picture card that is sitting there beside the tea set. Well, I've had this card for I don't know how many years, but I fell in love with it whenever I found it. It is called,
Just in case you want to have your own little tea party with some fresh homemade Blueberry Bran muffins, here is the recipe:
Recipe for Blueberry Bran Muffins Servings: 12 small muffins, or 6 large.
Ingredients:
2 Cups Bran Flakes or All-Bran Cereal
1 1/4 Cups Milk
1 egg
1/4 cup oil or 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce (my choice)
1 1/4 Cup Flour
1/2 Cup sugar
1 Tablespoon Baking Powder
1/2 Teaspoon salt
3/4 Teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 to 1 cup of fresh blueberries (depends on how many blueberries you prefer)
Directions: Preheat oven to 400℉ Grease Muffin pan for 12 muffins
1. Combine cereal and milk in mixing bowl. Let stand 1/2 hour, until cereal is well soaked.
Then:
2. Add egg and oil (or applesauce instead of the oil, which is my preference), mix well.
3. Add rest of ingredients. Mix just until combined.
4. Put into muffin pans sprayed with PAM. (Today I used cupcake papers, but I think the greased muffin pans would have worked better as the muffins really stuck to the paper.)
5. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
whine (grin) I wanna come over...and I would love to "tweak" Teddy's ears, smiles. Everyday, my Walter (he is a basset hound, smiles) gets his ears "tweaked" and a talking too, grin. I am sure my son rolls his eyes, LOLOL. Only, he doesn't know, but I know he has Curious George and I know for a fact he gets his hugs too, George is nearly 23 just like the 'kid' is. Of course, my husband has Fred, his teddy bear from his Marine days and of course, he gets hugs and a talking too as well, grin. So, you see, your not crazy or daffy or whatever it is you called it, grin ((maybe we are, lololol)).
ReplyDeleteThank you for the many smiles, Pamela.
Nothing wrong with being a bit "daffy" and acting a little like a child once in a while...or even oftener...it keeps us humble and sweet. At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Have a blessed and happy day.
DeleteBuster Brown!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was 5 I had shoes with little Buster Brown faces all over them. I loved those shoes!
Thanks for the happy memory! 😊
I am sure we all must have had some Buster Brown shoes at some point in our childhood. I don't remember mine, but I assume I must have had some. Did they have any others for children way back then? Of course, you are much younger than I am. I wonder, do they still make them? Have a happy day today! Thank you for visiting.
DeletePamela, your post is adorable! I too feel like a little girl sometimes and I have several teddies just sitting around the house. They are all gifts from loved ones. I made bran muffins yesterday and our recipes are similar. I never thought to use applesauce instead of oil. I also ran out of All Bran but I had some raisin bran which I used instead and Hubby likes them just as much as the plain ones. I enjoy a nice muffin now and then and yesterday seemed the right day to bake them.
ReplyDeleteWe are expecting a snow storm this afternoon so I thought I'd better get my visits in now, just in case. Enjoy your day and thank you for your lovely comment. Blessings...Sandi
Thank you, Sandi. It always blesses me when you visit! Your tea parties are such an inspiration to me. Yes, I like to use applesauce in place of oil any time I can without spoiling a recipe. It makes it more moist and healthy, I think. I keep a jar of plain applesauce on hand just for that purpose. And yes, the raisins would be a good alternative to blueberries if you don't happen to have any. I hope your snow storm is mild and not too difficult, as in loss of power, etc. It would be a good day to make a pot of stew or soup!! It is quite chilly here in Florida today as well...in the 40's this morning and is only 50 degrees F now with strong winds, but at least the sun is shining. That is chilly for us at this time of year! Old man winter just isn't letting go. Be safe and warm, and thank you for visiting!
DeleteThanks for the recipe! Sounds good. We are driving back to Ohio and I might just have to make these once I’m home. Hope your surgery goes well and that you’ll feel like making these again soon!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Becky! Hope you have a safe and uneventful trip home! So glad we got to visit even if it was brief! Thank you for your kind thoughts. I am sure I'll be fine and back to my old tricks soon. Please stay in touch!
DeleteI think it is so awesome that you take the time to treat yourself special! You deserve it.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you. Sometimes I just do silly things because I am bored...but then again that's not really true. I really am hardly ever bored...I just do silly things because I want to! Have a blessed and wonderful day!!
DeleteOH! Pamela, I so enjoyed your tea party, what a beautiful treasured tea set you have, maybe your sister will be able to have a tea party with you soon, don't forget to invite me, I love teddy bears and tea parties. OH what fun we will have.
ReplyDeleteI will copy this recipe and try it soon thank you for sharing, have a blessed day.
Sue
Oh, of course you are welcome to come to our tea party anytime, and bring your teddy bear! Even if there wasn't a tea party scheduled, we can always create one with the flick of the button on the electric teakettle!! Voila! A tea party!! So please just come on down whenever you want! I'll put the kettle on!!
DeleteYour tea party looks absolutely lovely. If I lived closer, I would come to join you. I made a large batch of bran muffins yesterday .
ReplyDeleteCome on down! As I just told "Sue" above here, just come on and I'll put the kettle on and we'll have a tea party! No special invitation necessary! Bran muffins seems to be the "in" thing this week. I love their benefits that they give us just for enjoying them. LOL. Have a wonderful weekend!
DeleteThis is so sweet, Pamela! It is the simple things that bring us so much joy. I love the card with the little girl and her teddy having breakfast. Reminds me of how Anna never wanted to go anywhere without her precious doll, Mary. We may not be young anymore, but there's nothing saying we can't be young at heart!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Yes, I love being "young at heart" and hope to stay that way always! I mean, don't we get to have a 2nd childhood at some point? I'm already having mine! Life is too short to always go around being "old" and serious. We have to enjoy every moment we can. (((hugs))) to you dear friend.
DeleteWhat a lovely tea party! Your muffins look and sound delicious! I like to make blueberry muffins now and then. A nice change from cereal or bagels for breakfast!
ReplyDeleteYes, I love muffins and wish there were more places that served them with breakfast. The only restaurant I know of is Perkins, and they are too far away from here. Up north in New England they are pretty much standard fare. Especially the blueberry muffins. I should make them more often, but I usually think of it too late to get them ready in time for breakfast. This morning I planned ahead and got it done! I was proud of myself! LOL!! Have a blessed weekend.
DeleteI love your tea set and would love to sit at the table with your teddies!! Thanks for sharing the recipe, I'll put in with my recipes, maybe someday I will bake them. I had a recipe for bran muffins that called for orange juice, I need to look for it and share it, they were good muffins too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, MaryJane. Would so love to have you come sit at my table with me and the Teddies. We would have such a delightful time. You should share your recipe too. It sounds like a lot of us like Bran Muffins!
DeleteYou have such beautiful friends, both human and not. What a delightful breakfast that was!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Barbara! And you are one of the "beautiful friends, human!"
DeleteThis is a wonderful idea. A tea party with your teddy bears. I just might try it.
ReplyDeleteSomehow I missed this comment when you first wrote it. Probably because I had surgery the following day, so I probably didn't look at my posts again for a while. I hope you had a tea party back then, and if not, why not have one now? Hope you are having a blessed day...even if it is three years later than when you originally wrote this! (((hugs)))
DeleteThanks for recipe. They look delicious.
ReplyDeleteOh, so glad you found it!! I hope it works for you. I love them. You don't have to put blueberries in them, but I prefer them in there. Enjoy!
