She's testing the water...
Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

An Update and Some Fun
Thank you to all of you who read my post from last night HERE. I wanted to give you a quick update on the shed story and add a few new things for today.
This big bear also came by for a "bath":
She's testing the water...
Getting all four feet wet:
And finding it "just right", she laid down and cooled off for a spell.
As you can see, the new shed is now safely landed in its new home, ready for action! They just need to get some power connected to it and then they can get things moved in.
Here is my son, happy, proud and thankful for the ways God has blessed their business.
And here is Sugar and Spice, peeking inside the nice new "big doghouse", Ha Ha! Actually, it is so nice and big, I teased our kids and said maybe we would just make that our new retirement home! LOL.
I don't think they were that amused. One mile away is plenty close enough for us to live! LOL.
Shifting gears a bit, just for fun, I'm wondering how many of you went out and bought some of these products this past week? Here's a sampling of what we bought. We've already eaten some of what we bought. Very good!
I love how the left wing's "boycott" suddenly backfired and became a "buy-cott" as the silent majority exercised their shopping power this past week. But that's all I'll say about that. This was one of the funny highlights in the news this week. It's good to focus on something more humorous when you can find it.
Another highlight for me...(non-political, so relax) ...one morning we took a little ride about 30 miles south to the area where we used to live, just to see what kind of changes are taking place in our old "neck of the woods". For those of you who have followed me for a while, you know that we lived in the Ocala National Forest, and that bears and other wildlife in our yard were a normal part of life. Several of my friends here and on Facebook have lamented the fact that I no longer post pictures of the bears and their antics in our little tiny kiddie pool that we had in our yard for them to drink from as they passed through. Here are a few pictures from the past that were taken by our outdoor wildlife camera that we had set up by the "pool":
These two little cubs came by for a "drink" one night:
She's testing the water...
Yes, bears came by all times of the year and all times of the night just for a friendly drink:
Well anyway, back to the present, just as we got to the place in the main road where we turn off onto the dirt road that led to our old house, would you believe that a bear ran right across the road in front of us?!! This was about 10:30 a.m., which is unusual for the bears to still be out roaming around. It was a young bear, but not a cub. Unfortunately, I could not get my camera focused quickly enough to take its picture as it was running quite rapidly across the road! I thought, what are the chances of that happening just at that moment when we were passing by and wondering if the bears were still around?!
However, I guess I shouldn't have been too surprised because this section of the highway was designated as a bear crossing zone:
And HERE is a picture I DID get several years ago of a bear crossing the road right in its designated place:
Of course, we had long ago designated our house in the woods as a "Bear Crossing Zone" as well, since bears loved to walk through our yard as if they owned it...and, after all, they were there first!
My son had made this sign for our yard when we lived there. I was pleased to see when we passed by our old house that the new owners still had it up in the yard. Apparently they have realized that the sign speaks for itself too.
Okay folks, that's all for now. Just wanted to keep things light and happy. I hope you are enjoying a pleasant day and that your weekend will be filled with joy and many blessings.
Here's a verse for the day:
Philippians 4:8
"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true,
whatever things are noble,
whatever things are just,
whatever things are pure,
whatever things are lovely,
whatever things are of good report,
if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy,
meditate on these things."

Waitttttttttt, what....a bear... in your yard? OH MY GOODNESS! YOU be careful, Pamela!!!! WOWOWOWOWOWOW.
ReplyDeleteI just love the new workshop, smiles
This was at our OLD house that we moved from last summer. We haven't seen any bears here. But it was quite common to see them in our previous yard, neighborhood, etc., because we lived in the middle of the national forest. (did you read the narrative, or just look at the pictures? LOL. Funny)
DeleteBEARS!!!!! 😦
ReplyDelete"if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy,

Powerful, powerful verse. So important.
I wonder if Goya makes plantains. I will have to check.
Yes, we HAD bears at our previous home...we don't have them here where we moved to last summer. But where we lived for the previous 7 years it was common to have bears walk through the yard frequently. I don't know about plantains. Not a fan of those...and isn't that a fruit? I don't think they deal with fresh produce. Maybe dried? I don't know.
DeleteOh! I mean the fried plantain chips. Plantains are like bananas, but less sweet. If you ever try the chips I think you will loooove them!
DeleteI was chased by a mama bear once. She had two cubs up a tree as I walked by...I made it safely into the bed if a pickup going by at the time.
ReplyDeleteLove Sugar & Alice's curiosity!
Wow, that was a close one. They definitely don't want us to come near their cubs. You were blessed by that pick up!! God was watching out for you!
DeleteEEEEEEEEEKK!!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteThanks for the shed update. I like that bear Crossing sign, but I'm not so sure I would like the bears that close.
ReplyDeleteWe were blessed in that we never had a problem. They did try to tear down part of our privacy fence once to get to the bird feeder, but other than that they just rambled on through the yard, mostly at night, getting a drink or a bath, and then moving on down the trail. The most we counted in one day (actually within an hour,) was five bears. That was not long after we moved there. They were just checking out the "new neighbors". We never put garbage or any food outside, and I often kept the bird feeders in at night, especially during their more active times. I wore a whistle when I walked, and did not normally walk alone. I did have one face to face encounter, about 100 feet apart, but he finally decided I wasn't worth the trouble and went on into the woods and let me get on home safely. God was watching out for me for sure.
DeleteOh, it was sure fun seeing your bears again, AND the new one!! It is also nice that the sign is still in your old yard, right where it belongs! The new shed looks great! They will have the power to it and will be up and running soon! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri! Yes, they are excited to have the new shed to help spread out their workspace. They were getting overcrowded in what they had and needed to add this new space. We are so happy for them to be doing so well. Yes, we drove by our old house, and it pretty much looks the same, just different cars in the yard. The trees are getting taller and everything is green. They still have this sign up and also the bear on the post with the house number on it that Benton made. So it just looked like we never left. It was fun seeing a bear...although these pictures are all old pictures. The little bear was too fast for me this time!
DeleteThe shed looks great. What a nice work shop this will be. Incredible pics of the bears enjoying that little pool. And how polite that the one bear is crossing the road where he was supposed to! lol We had a bear to walk thru our yard at our Cleveland GA house. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteYes, we used to have such fun watching the bears at our last house. I wouldn't mind seeing one here, but I don't want to meet him face to face. I'm not as tuned into watching for them now. I do hope you have a blessed and wonderful weekend too.
DeleteThere are plenty of bears in our area too. I haven't been to the grocery store or I would have bought some Goya too and I do hope there is enough silent majority out there that will give him the edge this November.
ReplyDeleteWe need to PRAY< PRAY< PRAY!!!
DeleteI really like the bear crossing sign. I laughed out loud when you told your son that perhaps the shed would become your retirement barn. So many people these days are living in tiny homes, camps and sheds. I'm afraid the reference to Goya escapes me. I guess it is something going on in your neck of the woods. Take care and God bless. p.s. Am glad your husband and you located his phone. I always pray when I lose something because I tend to get all panicky and overlook things when it might be right in front of me :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Penny. Yes, we are so thankful that the LORD helped us figure out where he had left his phone, and even more thankful that an honest soul had turned it in. Re: Goya. It is an Hispanic food company, and the CEO was a guest of the President this past week regarding some kind of trade/economic issues that affected the Hispanic community in our country. The CEO praised the work our President has done for the Hispanic community in his speech. The "far left" segment of our nation/media turned against this man and told everyone to boycott the GOYA products because of his support of the work of our President. Instead, the "silent majority" of our nation who support our President, (silent because of the constant bullying of the media and social media), did just the opposite and went out and bought as much of these products as they could, many donating them to food banks across the country, showing their support for what this CEO of the company had taken the courage to do. It is a sad day when good people are ostracized by the media and others because they had the courage to take a stand and speak the truth. There is a lot of that happening in our country these days, and we are in a lot of turmoil. Our upcoming election in November is very important. But I am speaking from my own personal feelings and convictions here. There may be others who won't agree with me, but I am just explaining what happened this week with the GOYA products as an example of a much bigger picture. Our nation needs a LOT of prayer.
DeleteGlad to see the shed is settled in and almost ready to go, Pamela. It's a blessing that Benton's and Rose's business is doing so well in these trying times. We did the Goya buying, too, just yesterday. They truly are great products, and absolutely undeserving of a boycott. And I enjoyed seeing the bears once again. I have to admit, though, I'm glad we don't have them in our neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
The shed is very nice and once it has electricity, it will be perfect. Bears, bears and more bears and love the sign. Bet you are glad there arent where you live now.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for your son, it's great their business is growing. Hey, I think it would be a great retirement home. lol We don't live far from our old home, the home we lived in for 35 years and where we raised our children. We will sometimes drive by, sometimes it makes me sad, but I know we did the right thing by moving.
ReplyDeleteThank you Pam for the update. Wildlife is so interesting. Just this summer, there was at least one bear wandering around Iowa--not exactly sure where it originated from or where it was headed. It was entertaining to hear about sightings of said bear in this crazy time.
ReplyDelete(I'm not certain but bears might be making a return to Iowa.)
Love and blessings!
Maybe the bear was taking advantage of the fact that people are hibernating now and he doesn't have to!! He can have the world to himself! LOL. Just watch out for your garbage cans if they are outside. They LOVE to get into the garbage, searching for food.
DeleteWhat are the chances a bear would run in front of you!! How many times were we there and never saw one? It figures! Lol!
ReplyDeleteha ha! I thought about that! And at 10:30 in the morning too! We were really surprised as well...but I guess it just knew we were coming and it wanted to welcome us "back home".
DeleteFor some reason, only known to God, you were supposed to see that bear. Maybe it missed your family :). Peace and blessings.
