Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Attitude Adjustment
I'm trying out a new kind of tea that my sweet daughter in love gave me.
I like the tagline that came with this tea bag:
"The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem."
Captain Jack Sparrow
Hmm, could probably write a whole post about that topic...but I will just leave it where it is and let you figure it out for yourself!
Last week I shared a post about the quilts that I have in my home.
While sipping my cup of "Wild Chaild" tea I was reading from this lovely book,
Timeless Treasures, written by Emile Barnes.
I came across this little message written by "Eliza Calvert...Aunt Jane of Kentucky".
I wish I'd seen it before I wrote the post about quilts, because it would have fit in with that so well. So I will just share it with you now because it certainly speaks the truth.
Whether or not you can create lovely quilts, or paint pictures, or take pictures with your camera, or write stories or journals, or do cross stitch, write letters, knit or crochet...do something that lasts and makes a difference in someone's life today.
Actually, being a good friend, neighbor, mother, daughter, daughter in love, mother in law, sister, grandmother, teacher..just being who you are makes a difference in someone's life.
Proverbs 31:25-28
25. "Strength and honor are her clothing;
She shall rejoice in time to come.
26. She opens her mouth with wisdom,
and on her tongue is the law of kindness.
27. She watches over the ways of her household,
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28. Her children rise up and call her blessed;
Her husband also, and he praises her..."
Today I hope to have a good attitude about any problem I may be facing...and I pray that I will make a positive difference in someone's life today! How about you? Have a blessed and beautiful day!

Our attitude, was part of the sermon yesterday at church. Good post!
ReplyDeleteWow! I guess that is the "theme" for the week that God wants us to learn! Thank you!!
DeleteYes a good attitude about anything good or bad is a desirable trait and goal.
ReplyDeleteyes, it certainly helps us to be able to deal with any situation when our attitude is right. Thank you for popping in! Have a blessed day!
DeleteThat certainly is a lovely story by Aunt Jane! I have enjoyed many of Emile Barnes' books thru the years. So thoughtful of your daughter in love to share her favorite tea with you. I giggled about you being a wild Chaild - we'll have to add that to your "name meaning!!!"
ReplyDeleteHa Ha...those who have known me a while know that it probably fits me quite well. LOL. Yes, my daughter in love is a sweetheart...she is such a blessing to us...I am very thankful for the gift of her in our lives. Emilie Barnes is one of my favorites. I have a lot of her books, especially about tea. Thank you for visiting this morning! Have a blessed and beautiful day.
DeleteBeautiful and memorable words from Aunt Jane, Pamela. We all want to leave some kind of legacy for our children and grandchildren. That's what I hope and pray my books will do.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, my friend, and have a wonderful week!
Yes, your granddaughters and daughter are blessed to have such a legacy from you. And I am certain it carries over into many other things as well.I love that you are writing letters back and forth with Virginia. Those will be treasures to her in the future. I hope she is encouraged to save them. Have a blessed week too!!
DeleteI absolutely love that poem...such truth in it. I also like the quote by Capt. Jack Sparrow:) Truth in that too. It reminds me of a poem or quote from a book by Chuck Swindoll I think that says much of life is about our attitude towards things.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sandy. Yes, who would think "Captain Jack Sparrow" could teach us something today? You just never know where good advice will come from. I also love and appreciate Chuck Swindoll. I like what he said once, "Don't sweat the small stuff, and remember, it's all small stuff!" That has stuck with me ever since I heard it! Good advice! Have a blessed day my friend.
DeleteLoving Aunt Jane's quote and that one from Captain Jack! ATTITUDE....boy, they can make us or break us can't they? I just shared with a young woman recently that though she may not can change the situation she can change her attitude and it's crazy, but 5 days later she saw a difference in another person's attitude because she changed hers! My own advice became a lesson for me the same day with MY ATTITUDE was about tuded out! LOL! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteI love that..."about tuded out!" Sounds like a Patsy Clairmont saying! I love her. Yes, our attitude certainly can make or break a situation, can't it? I'm learning about that too! Thank you for popping in! Always a delight to have you stop by!
DeleteA beautiful post my friend!
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you dear Susie! I always love it when you pop in for a visit. I've missed you! Would love to have you sit down here for a good long visit one of these days. (((hugs))) dear friend.
DeleteLoved this post, Pamela. Lots of truth here! I just loved that last point -- "Whether or not you can create lovely quilts, or paint pictures, or take pictures with your camera, or write stories or journals, or do cross stitch, write letters, knit or crochet...do something that lasts and makes a difference in someone's life today ... Actually, being a good friend, neighbor, mother, daughter, daughter in love, mother in law, sister, grandmother, teacher..just being who you are makes a difference in someone's life."
ReplyDeleteWe just had proof of that this weekend and were so blessed to be able to encourage a young missionary couple with two little children. Just being who we are. And that in turn encouraged us!
Oh -- interestingly, I have that same square coaster that you showed one of in the top photo, with the blue and white teapot and the strawberries. It's fun to think that we own the same set!
Thank you so much for popping for a visit today. How wonderful that the Lord enabled you to encourage a young missionary couple...they are such precious people to have given up home and left family to serve the Lord's family in foreign lands. I always appreciate the opportunity to meet and visit with missionaries from any land. I can imagine they loved being with you. Thank you for taking the time to spend with them. Their lives are richer because of you and I can tell your life is richer as well. It is neat that we have the same coaster...that is the only one like that one that I have. The other one that I have that came with it is a white teapot and cups/saucer with deep pink trim, on a white table scarf with a lacy edge and a couple of plates standing behind it. I assume they came together, but I don't know where I got them. Gifts from a friend I am sure long ago. yes, that is fun!! Have a blessed day/week!
Delete"Choose to be cheerful" is a private motto I have (because sometimes, for me anyway, it needs to be a deliberate choice). When I make that choice to be cheerful, it affects everyone with whom I come in contact, and that's a very good thing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your tea time with us. I have just finished a coffee break on the back porch with Beloved. The thunder is rumbling but the showers have not shown up -- yet.
Yes, we can choose to be cheerful, or allow ourselves to be grumpy. The cheerful choice always ends up so much better! Even when things are not going so well. Thank you for popping in for tea time. I can always have coffee too for my guests. We finally did get a nice rainstorm this afternoon. I had about given up on it, and there it came! Hope you have a pleasant rest of your day and week.
DeleteThank YOU for popping in for a visit. You are always welcome here!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the cup of tea and the visit. I really like the wisdom in that poem. There is so much more to life than to have the house perfect and such. I want to be remembered for having a home that welcomes friends and family at any time.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Ruth, and I loved visiting your home last week...I truly felt right at home! That is what really matters...feeling relaxed and comfortable and welcome! Not how fancy the dinner was or how perfect the tea and cakes were, but how good we feel about being together, sharing true friendship and fellowship. That is what lasts!
DeleteBeautiful post today!
ReplyDeleteCaptain Jack Sparrow! Now would that quote be from the movies? He's in Pirates of the Carribean. Johnny Depp.
Yes, I know...and no, I don't know if he said that in the movie. Maybe we should google it to find out! Thank you for visiting...you are always a welcome guest here in my neighborhood!
DeleteThis is such a good reminder that attitude can be everything. It can make or break a situation. And doing something that lasts, SO important.
ReplyDeleteYes...even spending quality time with friends and loved ones...that is a lasting gift. Looks like you did a lot of that with your sister and family! I enjoyed your post so much.
DeleteYour posts are ALWAYS positive and uplifting, Pam! I am sure I'm not the only reader who feels better after a visit here with you! It is so fun that Rose gave you that tea! I hope I can meet her one of these days!
ReplyDeleteOh, I hope you can meet Rose one day too. Does your cousin still live here in our town? But you don't have to wait to visit them to come visit us...come anytime! You are always a welcome guest here!!
DeleteYou've already created something positive by sharing this post & giving us the new tea (I don't like sugar with my tea, so none added for me please).
ReplyDeleteAnd to answer your question (yesterday's post, I had Hurriane Hanna update)...we live about 15 miles (6/7 miles as the crow flies) from the eye of the hurricane landfall. It wasn't too damaging in our part of town, but played havoc along the beaches.
Glad to know you are okay and that the storm didn't mess up your place. Praying for those who are recovering.
DeleteI really need an attitude adjustment, just keeping it real. Your tea sounds really nice Pamela. Have a great day friend.
ReplyDeleteWe sure have to work on our attitudes every day now with so many major problems in the world that affects us each and every day. Love the tea and the quilt in the background! Looks like the old wedding ring pattern. Enjoy your evening! We had some good rain today that kept things nice. Hugs!
ReplyDeletePam, I wish you and I were sitting in those lovely chairs having a cup of your lovely tea and having a lovely deep conversation. I sleep every night under a quilt that my Grandma made. It's all the states flowers with a few torn places but it makes me wish she was still with us. Attitude...it can make or break our day and people as they day goes on. I thought when I was young that when I got old my attitude would get sweeter and truthfully at this time it is. I fear old age that thinks it can say whatever and whenever it wants just cause I earned that right. I pray a lot God help me in that area. I want to get sweet as my time here on earth slips away daily. Thanks for the reminder. And thanks for your encouraging comment on my site.
ReplyDeletePam: I love the message that "Aunt Jane" wrote. It speaks of lasting memories amid our time of disposable items. A lovely sentiment for us all to remember as we spend time making our lives a bit more livable.
ReplyDeletePam, thanks for sharing these words of wisdom. Our attitude really does make a difference on how we see the world and process the various things that happen to us.
ReplyDeleteLove and blessings!
