Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Facing Our Battles With Eyes of Faith
I hope you all had a blessed and Happy 4th of July celebration at your home yesterday. We had a quiet day, but very meaningful. Started out the morning putting the flag out on the front porch, with a beautiful sunny sky as a backdrop. I always sing "The Star Spangled Banner" when I put the flag up. I just can't help it. I am thankful for our flag and all that it represents to our country.
I discovered this different type of water lily in the shady area of the pond: It is a "Nuphar Lutea", or Yellow Pond Lily
Okay, back to the ride around the pond...
This is on the other side of the island, in that little cove...
And here I am on the home stretch...
I think the underside of those lily pads is interesting too...(before they curl up and die).
I'm heading into shore...there is my "Secret Memorial Garden" up ahead...
I added a couple of other flags to the porch. They helped the porch to look a bit brighter and more festive. Sadly, my geraniums and other plants are suffering in the heat and not producing very well right now, so the flags made things better.
After breakfast I took a ride in the kayak around "Still Waters Pond".
Not a lot different to see, so just enjoy the pictures of the water lilies with me...
Twins!! Double the beauty!
There are very few of these on our pond, and I wish this picture was better, but the sun was so bright it was hard to get a truer picture of the bright yellow color. But if you look at the link I posted above, it will give you a better picture of what it is supposed to look like. And guess what? They are edible!
However, I don't see myself trying to eat one anytime soon.
So that's the tour. Now on to today, Sunday. Yes! We finally went back to church!!!! What a beautiful day in the Lord's house!! I wish I had thought to take some pictures, but I did get one picture of our new pastor as he was speaking:
Here is a link to our church website and his sermon for today. It was an excellent message and even better in person than the video, which was taped before this morning. We had a "full house", meaning with social distancing, every family group sitting six feet apart, wearing masks, no hugging...our fellowship hall was filled to capacity. It is easier to meet there than in the sanctuary, as we cannot be quite as flexible in seating with pews, etc. Hopefully this will only be temporary until this virus goes away or at least abates enough to feel safe again. Our pastor's message really gave us some very good ways to approach this situation we are facing. His scripture was from II Chronicles 20:1-25. The key verses were some that I already had underlined in my Bible from different situations throughout my life.
II Chronicles 20:12
"O our God, will You not judge them?
For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us;
nor do we know what to do,
but our eyes are upon You."
And hear God's response through His servant Jahaziel:
15. "...Thus says the Lord to you:
'Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude,
for the battle is not yours, but God's."
17. "You will not need to fight in this battle.
Position yourselves,
Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you...
Do not fear or be dismayed;
tomorrow go out against them,
for the Lord is with you!"
Perhaps you will find these verses comforting and helpful to you in whatever battles you may be facing in your life. Whether it be, as in verse 9, "If disaster comes upon us--sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine--we will stand before this temple and in Your presence (for Your name is in this temple), and cry out to You in our affliction, and You will hear and save."...whether it be our enemies in battle, or this current "pestilence", which is a plague, or even in famine...we can be assured that the Lord will hear us when we call out to Him in prayer. We do not need to worry or fear...for "the battle is not yours, but God's"...and the Lord is with you!!
I hope this is a comfort to you today, as it certainly was to me. We are facing many kinds of enemies these days, and we need to know that we can rely on God to fight for us, and that He is with us no matter what the enemy may try to do. Praise God!! What a blessing to know this...amen?
Keep your eyes on Jesus, "the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Hebrews 12:2
God bless you, and God bless America!

It's so good to hear your liking the new minister, that's wonderful. Thanks for taking us on your morning trip around the pond, loved it! The pictures make it so real for me.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary. We truly are blessed with our new pastor. It is an answer to prayer for all of us! (Including him and his wife!). Thank you for riding with me around the pond! I'm glad you enjoyed the ride!!
DeleteWonderful snaps from your adventure on the pond. I also like the flags that you added in recognition of our country's special day. Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteThank you! So happy you could come along for the ride! Please come back again! I spend a lot of time looking at or riding on Still Waters Pond. There is always something going on out there!
DeleteIt is wonderful to be in church again! This was our 4th Sunday. I will say that we had around 80 people the first two Sundays, about 50-60 last week, and only around 30-40 this week. We know several families are on vacation over the 4th though and missed seeing them. Our church is set up nicely for social distancing and people are wearing masks coming in and going out, and while singing. Your verses are comforting and thanks for sharing them, Pam. Love to you and John! xo
ReplyDeleteWe only had about 35 people, but our church normally only has about 80 people, so this was good considering our current situation, and that is really all we have room for at a time. We may have to go to 2 services when more feel ready to come back. Many "elderly" do not feel ready to come out yet, which is understandable. Thank you for visiting today. Love to you and Joe too!!
Delete"for the battle is not yours, but God's."
ReplyDeleteThis hit me like a ton of bricks!
I think we are on the edge of another Great Awakening.
Yes, I believe we are, Sandi. But God is in control, and He will fight this battle for us. We just need to pray, and wait on Him. (and vote!)
DeleteThat sripture was helpful. I just read something that truly upset me on a forum which I frequent. Thank you for the message through the scripture. Peace and blessings to you.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry that there was something upsetting for you, but I am glad that God's Word provided words of comfort. That is where I run when I am unsettled or afraid. God's Word always has the answers!! Peace to you as well.
DeleteAges ago, Pam, when my kids were in children's choir, we performed a musical entitled "Fat, Fat Jehosephat" that included an entire scene/song with Jehazial, the prophet, declaring that the battle wasn't theirs, but God's. I can recall the entire song to this day, and those verses bring great comfort to me in these trying and troubling days. Know that your lovely photos brought me peace of mind, too, my friend.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
I wish I could have seen that musical! I love those children's musicals. They are always such fun, and full of good Biblical truths that our kids learn while performing. And yes, these verses are a great comfort during these difficult days for all of us. Glad you enjoyed the pond ride as well! God is good.
DeleteGreat Scriptures! Thanks so much for sharing these encouraging truths today.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting! I definitely found these words very encouraging in the midst of our current national crisis...Very timely words of comfort.
Deletei love those gorgeous water lilies. The reflections give twice the beauty. I am so thankful to know that God is always with me and guiding every step.Praise be to Him!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ruth. I know the lilies just have such a special beauty and their reflection does double the loveliness! I am glad you noticed that. And yes, God's Word is such a comfort to us during these difficult times...and always!!
DeleteI wrote down these Scriptures on a list I keep. "For you will hear and save", that is wonderful and true news. When bands of people rise up to endanger us, He is mighty to save.
ReplyDeleteAmen!! Yes, very timely words for us in these turbulent times. Very comforting indeed! Thank you for visiting.
DeleteWhat a beautiful, peaceful tour of the pond. I could almost hear the water lapping, the insects droning and the birds singing. I'm thrilled you got to go back to church and enjoy your new pastor's sermon. I love that we can rest in knowing that the fight is always the Lord's! Have a blessed week!
ReplyDeleteThank you Stacy. You have described my little pond journey very well. Thank you for the "sound effects". Yes, we were so thankful to finally be back at church, and it was such a welcome blessing in every way. God's Word is true and so comforting to us in these turbulent times!
DeleteYour home looks beautiful with the flags. Lovely pics of the water lilies. I've never seen the underneath side of the lilies. Very nice photo of your pastor and I'm thankful you were able to fellowship after these many weeks. I enjoyed the verses you shared.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mildred. And yes, even the undersides of the lily pads have their own unique design. I may have to take some closer views of those details. Yes, we are so thankful to be able to attend church again...and the message was very comforting and inspiring. Just what we needed to hear!
DeleteI like your new pastor's message and I wish all Christians would have that view so they could have some peace. Love all your photos too. Your geraniums are suffering under hot sun and mine are looking a bit ragged due to lots of rain. Either way, we enjoy what we have. xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Penny. Yes, oftentimes we do not have peace because we just do not know God's Word as we should. We tend to skip over passages in the Old Testament thinking they were for those people way back then, but God's Word is living and true for us today and every generation. It was a wonderful message. Yes, my geraniums are not happy on the front porch these days, but the back porch gets the hot afternoon sun, so it isn't any better. Not sure what to do...I don't really have a good window inside where I can put them. I may have to think about that. I'd hate to lose them. Have a blessed and beautiful day my friend.
DeleteAlways wonderful to see your nature photos. I was just thinking this weekend about I had to keep a more positive attitude. I think I was getting better until Mom got sick. He has gotten His people through hard times. He has this and we need to just remember that.
ReplyDeleteI love that story in the Bible. I love that they didn't have to fight the battle, but just to stand and watch God work! Love it! Thanks for the reminder. Love your photos of the water lilies. So pretty!
ReplyDeletePam, your post is full of beautiful photos and sharing from you heart. I'm glad you were able to get back to church finally. Thank you for the reminder that God fights our battles.
ReplyDeleteLove and blessings!
So glad you like the new minister. Loving your pictures as always. I always feel so peaceful when looking at your photos. And yes girl...we only need to step back and let GOD! He always fights our battles. We just need to move out of the way most often. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful is the pond filled with Water Lilies. I've never seen the undersides of these plants. Interesting and a pretty color. Thank you for sharing this scripture and your thoughts. Good food to feed on in these times.
