Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!
What Do You See Outside YOUR Open Window Today?
Remember: "When God closes a door, He always opens a window!" You never know what might be out there waiting for you!

Joy Is...
Joy is...
Sunset dinner on the deck on January 2nd, 2020...
Enjoying a delicious steak dinner with the family..
With hubby...
And the kids who just got back from a little mini vacation. (Sorry, I caught someone with a mouthful of steak...)
Who would believe we could do this in January...in our shirt sleeves? This is our belated New Year's Dinner since they were out of town. This is the best (and cheapest) steak house in the county! (bought the steaks when they were on sale cheaper than hamburger and put them in the freezer for a special day...like today!)
Hello, It's Me! (Please don't laugh at my hair...it has become one thing that I am NOT joyful about...LOL)
Joy is enjoying a beautiful day and giving God praise and glory for all the wonderful things He has done.
Joy is a last look at the reflections of the Christmas lights from our tree and other decorations in the window before I decide to take them down and put them away for another year...
Probably not going to get it done until either the weekend or next week, but I saw this reflection and it made me feel joyful, so I just had to take a picture.
I love this little saying...I think this came from our "Friday Foto Friends" days, (which I miss!)
Joy is:
A whole house full of Amaryllis flowers starting to bloom!!!
Some of the bulbs had been in the dark box too long waiting to be planted, and so they have crooked stems, but as they reach toward "the light", they should straighten out and be tall and beautiful...
That sounds like a lesson from the Bible, doesn't it?
Here are a few thoughts about "light"...
John 3:19-21
"And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world,
and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
For everyone practicing evil hates the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
But he who does the truth comes to the light, and his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God."
Matthew 5:14-16
"You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand,
and it gives light to all who are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men,
that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."
I Peter 2:9
"But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation,
His own special people,
that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light..."
John 12:46
"I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me (Jesus)
should not abide in darkness."
Ephesians 5:8
"For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.
Walk as children of light."
Ephesians 5:13-14
"But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light,
for whatever makes manifest is light.
Therefore He says:
"Awake, you who sleep,
Arise from the dead,
And Christ will give you light."
Isn't it amazing how God can shed light on even something like an Amaryllis bulb and give us lessons on life? Why? Because He created the Amaryllis Bulb, and He can use anything He created to teach us how to live.
This reminds me of an old hymn, written by Philip P. Bliss, "The Light of the World is Jesus".
Here is a video of this song...I hope you will sing along...
"The whole world was lost in the darkness of sin,
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Like sunshine at noonday, His glory shone in;
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Refrain:
Come to the light, ’tis shining for thee;
Sweetly the light has dawned upon me;
Once I was blind, but now I can see:
The Light of the world is Jesus!
No darkness have we who in Jesus abide;
The Light of the world is Jesus!
We walk in the light when we follow our Guide!
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Ye dwellers in darkness with sin-blinded eyes,
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Go, wash at His bidding, and light will arise;
The Light of the world is Jesus!
No need of the sunlight in Heaven we’re told;
The Light of the world is Jesus!
The Lamb is the Light in the city of gold,
The Light of the world is Jesus!"
Thank you for taking time to reflect on the "joys" of the day...perhaps you have some very special joys that you are thankful for today as well. Let us share our joys and let our "light shine" to encourage one another as we travel together in this "joyful journey of life". Sometimes we may not feel so joyful, but when we realize that "The Joy of the Lord is my strength"... (Nehemiah 8:10), we realize that it isn't our own "joy" that keeps us going...but the Joy of the Lord...that gives us the strength we need to take one more step. Without His joy dwelling in our hearts, we miss out on His strength as well. So Lord, please fill us with YOUR JOY, so that we will have YOUR STRENGTH when we need it most. Amen.
Beautiful tree and twinkling lights. I too hope to take down my decorations by Friday. I don't usually leave them up much past Jan.1 though I now some keep them up until the end of the 12 Days of Christmas. It was nice you had a beautiful steak dinner with your son and his wife.
Thank you, Joyful! It was a beautiful evening, filled with much joy! My parents' family tradition was to leave the tree up until my mother's birthday, which is Jan. 6th, also the same as "Epiphany". So I kind of follow that same tradition, although I've been known to leave it up longer or take it down sooner, just depends on circumstances and how I'm feeling. It's a big job and very exhausting, so I do it whenever I feel ready and full of energy! Hope you are having a "joyful" New Year so far!!!
I so agree. I feel like we are a great sisterhood of friends who enjoy visiting each other and sharing in each other's lives in such a beautiful way. So glad to have you as a special friend!
It is of ultimate importance, Pamela, to find joy in all God's creation. Loved your family photos, and your reminder to us that we can all shine the light of Jesus into this dark and hurting world. And if it makes you feel any better, I haven't taken down our Christmas either - I do have until Epiphany! May your blessings abound in the new year!
I am not really in any hurry to take down Christmas decorations. I will do a little here and there as I feel like it...but I see no need to rush. I'm too busy "finding joy in all God's creation!"
Joy is your blog and you! If you miss Friday Fotos.. why not join with me on Friday for Friday Photos? I post it every Friday along with Skywatch friday. I also plan to do Toni's Tuesday 4 this week again and I might include a photo challenge in that.
Thank you, Ann. I do try to post something every Friday, and of course, most of my posts already have photos, so it isn't that difficult to do! I will be watching for the Toni's Tuesday 4 next week, although I will be out of town most of that day and may not be able to do anything until the next day... That's why I don't like to commit to doing something on any particular day, because sometimes it just doesn't work out for me. I am glad you are going to continue that in honor and memory of Toni, however. Her posts are really going to be missed...as she is also being missed by all who knew her. We need to keep her memory alive.
Great photos, Pam! I love dinner on the deck and steaks on the grill! Happy faces and beautiful reflections! Yes! The Light of the world is Jesus! Amen!
Thank you, Terri! It was great out there last night...but tonight is kind of muggy. We were surprised to have mosquitoes last night! In january!! We need a good old cold spell to knock out the bugs and the flu bugs too!! But it was delightful being able to be outside with our kids. What a blessing!
I'm listening to the hymn now as I read through your post, what a beautiful song it is, I've never heard it before! I love your amaryllis blooms... I have one just now starting to grow, I can't wait to see it in bloom! I also have some paperwhites. Looking forward to their blooms! Yes, we much stretch towards, and walk in the light of Jesus, reminds me of sunflowers who follow the light with their blooms. It is amazing to see. The steak dinner sure looked yummy, what a blessing to be so close to your kids! Blessings to you in 2020 :)
So wonderful to hear from you Marilyn! I am glad that you have some Amaryllis bulbs growing as well as the paperwhites. They had such a bright and beautiful blossom to the long winter days. And then you can plant them outside and watch them grow again! yes, we are blessed to be near our kids. That is the main reason we moved here. They also add a bright and beautiful blossom to our lives! God is so good. Blessings to you and yours also in 2020!!
Your Amaryllis flowers are beautiful. Eating on the deck could be something that you might like to do more often. Sounds like fun. I gave a lady in our old church an Amaryllis as a Christmas grab-bag gift. Mybe it was a paperwhite, not sure the difference. She was in her 80's or late 70's and she remembered her mother having them. I started taking down a few of our Christmas decorations. My little tree is still on the library table. We still have life in our poinsettia. So, it will stay until it no longer has the beautiful red flowers. You have given me an idea for a gift for a friend for Christmas 2020. Peace and blessing to you and yours.
Thank you for visiting here today. I would love for you to sign my guestbook and let me know you stopped by. I always enjoy reading your comments and words of encouragement! May you be blessed as you go on your way. Please come back and visit again soon.
