Need a Little Spring Today?

On a day like today in Florida...where there is ice on the "pond" (on the bird bath...not really on the pond), and the morning started out at a frigid 31 degrees F...which is very cold for Florida... and even now at noontime it is only 47 degrees, (with a wind chill of 42 degrees),

I thought perhaps you could use a little Spring:

Hubby and I bundled up like Eskimos (seriously, I should have taken a picture of us, but you wouldn't recognize us with the hoods and gloves and parkas.  I even wore some long johns!) and headed to our walking woods to try and get some exercise and get our frozen blood moving again... (I can hear the groans from my friends in the north, who may be dealing with sub zero temperatures today)...and we were not disappointed by the display of early spring in the woods....

These are Wild Plum Trees, and they may be blooming a bit early due to the very warm temperatures we were having last week.

These trees are blooming all around what appears to be an old house foundation...I can imagine it was lovely back in the day...

I know I already showed you this photo last week, but this is at the same location, only more trees are blooming now.

And so, I had to bring some of this lovely springtime home with me:

I needed some kind of "Tree" to take the place of my Christmas grapevine tea-cup tree in the kitchen,
and something for my "windowsill" over the sink (really the breakfast bar). The watermelon pitcher may be a bit too springy/summery for today, but that is all I could find that would hold this. I think I left all my big glass vases in my old house when I got tired of packing. Oh well...this will do just fine.

Perhaps a little Song of Solomon Chapter Two would be lovely to read just now:

11. For behold, the winter is past,
The rain is over and gone.

12. ‘ The flowers have already appeared in the land;
The time has arrived for pruning the vines,
And the voice of the turtledove has been heard in our land.

13.  ‘The fig tree has ripened its figs,
And the vines in blossom have given forth their fragrance.
Arise, my darling, my beautiful one,
And come along!’”

I know winter isn't really over and done with for many, but this is something to look forward to on a cold winter's day.
And this made me feel quite joyful,
so I wanted to share it with you!
Have a beautiful, joyful, lovely day!

  1. Beautiful. At 1:47 pm (Where did my day go? Oh, I forgot, I slept in until 8:45 am, LOL) it is 33* and real feel of *28.

Have a great Wednesday afternoon, smiles.

    1. Wow...Here in north central Florida at 2:30 pm it is 51, with a real feel of 46. Still too cold and windy for me to go back outside. The sun is now hiding behind the clouds. Hope you are safe and warm and cozy.

  3. I can't believe how cold it's gotten down your way, Pamela - so frigid for Florida! It's been awfully cold here, too, and I did enjoy your sharing of some spring warmth with us today.
    Blessings!

    1. I am glad you enjoyed this little taste of spring. Hopefully it won't be long until spring is here to stay! In the meantime, stay warm and cozy wherever you are!

  4. We bundled up and went out too! And the WIND was bitterly cold! We didn't hike far but saw lots of beautiful things! And we saw some pretty blooms on the bushes here that are Red Chokeberries. It still looks so green and I hope the light frost doesn't do a lot of damage to the grass and wildflowers. I guess we'll appreciate the warmth when it returns in a few days! heehee! Stay warm!

    1. Yes, that is the good thing about Florida...the cold weather doesn't last long. Hopefully this little cold snap will kill off some bugs...the germ kind as well as the insect kind! I don't think it stayed down at freezing long enough to do any real harm, and tomorrow promises to be a little warmer. I hope so. My fingers are freezing as I type! :)

  5. Beautiful post, Pam! That's a cute display on the ice in your bird bath.

The flowering Wild Plum trees are so pretty! Spring seems to be out of place right now with our cold temperatures! But as you said, this doesn't last long!

    1. I know "Mother Nature" seems a bit confused right now. She must be getting a bit of dementia and forgot where she put the real Florida weather! LOL. Tomorrow promises to be a little warmer, and then it will be spring like weather again before we know it...and then comes summer, which I hope will wait a while and let us enjoy some spring!! Your snowmen probably felt right at home today!!

  6. The tree branch reminded me of a friend of my Mom's who used to make apple trees etc from twisted wire and beads. They were very Oriental looking and gorgeous! I think that branch looks beautiful on the table.
Now I am singing " We need a little Springtime, right this very minute, wreaths on the doorway, spring-songs on the spinet.. yes we need..etc etc.

    1. I like your rendition of "We need a little Christmas...changed to Springtime" That is very clever! Yes, I love the look of blossoms from trees like this...yes, oriental cherry blossom look...I wish I had a different vase, but apparently I left all my big glass ones at the other house. Ran out of room when I was packing and decided to leave those behind for the new owner to enjoy with the blooms they will get there. I guess I will have to get creative with some new vase ideas. I believe in enjoying whatever beauty God provides in His creation/nature.

  7. We were all bundled up when we went to the farm this morning too. Layers and a hoodie under a jacket! It was COLD!! We have some trees blooming around town too and they look out of place for this time of year.

    1. I am glad you bundled up appropriately. The wind was deceptively cold yesterday. Today seems to be warmer already, so I am happy about that!! Now the trees can bloom all they want and we will be happy to see them! LOL

  8. We got out and went to the grocery store today. Yesterday at 11:30, it was 31 degrees. I was out in the cold weather for the first time in several days. We stayed in Sunday due to the BRUTAL cold. (Brutal was the way Hubby called it.)

    1. I understand about "brutal cold", having lived in NH and Maine and Michigan! There was some BRUTAL cold there many times. That is probably why we live in Florida now, where our BRUTAL cold is only down to 31 degrees for a short while once in a very great while!! Take care and stay warm and cozy!
