My friend Terri over at "Your Friend From Florida" is doing a post called "Whimsical Wednesday". It's a lot of fun. Every week she posts pictures of some kind of interesting attire for women, and then we have to select the shoes we would wear with that particular outfit. You may want to scoot over there for a minute to see what the outfit is for today and make your selection between the three choices of very "lovely" boots to go along with the lovely black velvet jacket.
I am not going to share those particular pictures here, but thought I would do my own whimsical kind of post about my choice of attire on a day like today. Some of you may have already seen this on my Facebook page yesterday, but I thought I would write about it here today just because I wanted to.
This picture popped up in my "See Your Memories from four years ago" on Facebook,
Yes, that's me, sitting at my desk in my "office" at our previous home in 2016...
And I literally almost spit my tea out when I saw it, because of what I was wearing, because this is how I was dressed as I was reading my morning messages yesterday morning:
Yes, you are correct, I am wearing that very same flannel shirt, sitting at my computer in my "new home office" in our new house, doing the very same thing as I was doing four years ago on this very same day!
This is the very same flannel shirt that I devoted a post to a few years ago, when I first received it as a "post-Christmas" gift. You may want to revisit this as it probably has more less whimsical things to say...
Yes, that's me, in my favorite shirt, sitting on our porch in our previous home...
I don't know what I will do when this shirt finally wears out. Someone suggested yesterday that it would make wonderful dust rags. Yikes, I can't imagine using this favorite shirt for dust rags someday...because dusting is something that I really don't like to do, and it would be such a waste of a beautiful shirt to tear it up into dust rags. I may have to make it into a pillow or something. Or a teddy bear. Before I die. I know many people make pillows or teddy bears out of a loved one's favorite shirts after they die. But I think I'd like to make mine before I die so I can enjoy it too. Crazy huh? Yeah, maybe, but this is "Whimsical Wednesday" and I am feeling quite "whimsical" as you can see.
Oh, yeah, I forgot about the shoes!! We must select which shoes we will wear with our outfit:
Not these shoes, because I finally threw them away not long ago. They were my favorite pair of Skecher's shoes that I wore around the house until they finally just couldn't be worn anymore:
Or maybe you'd like this pair of Skechers, my favorite pair for walking, as you can see it helps me to identify the size of pine cones that we find...which this pine cone would be a size 9 women's shoe size. LOL.
Okay, there you have my "whimsical Wednesday" offering. My apologies to Terri for doing something totally different than what I was supposed to do. But this is what I love to wear on these chilly winter mornings here in Florida.
I am my father's daughter. Daddy always had a favorite shirt, pants and shoes that he wore all the time and when we were his "caregivers" we could hardly get him to take them off to wash them. You may not totally appreciate or understand this, but when my daddy died, the undertaker wanted to know what we would like for him to be dressed in. We knew that Daddy was going to be cremated, so it really didn't matter what outfit he was wearing since we would not be having any kind of "viewing" before his burial. So, my sister and I were together at that moment, and we looked at each other and we both knew that Daddy would want to be "buried" in his favorite shirt, pants and shoes, so that is what we did. Sometimes I wish we'd saved the shirt to have as a keepsake, but then again, we both knew that Daddy would be most comfortable traveling into heaven in his favorite clothes, so that always makes me smile when I think about Daddy's heaven-bound outfit.
However, truly, what "outfit" are you wearing on your way to heaven? There is really only one outfit that will do, and that is to be clothed in the righteousness of Christ.
I have a pair of Sketchers Go Walk sandals that I bought on clearance sale a few years ago that I wear for slippers in the house. When I get home from work and my feet are killing me, those thick foam soles are the only thing that is comfortable. They are starting to get kind of worn down, though, and I haven't found another pair yet. I'm getting worried.
ReplyDeleteYes, you need to start shopping for another pair before yours wear out and you are left with nothing suitable to wear. I could not survive without my Skechers. I even have a black pair that I wear to church now. I find that I hate to put on any other kind of shoe, they've spoiled me that much!
DeleteNo apologies needed, lol. I love Sketchers, unfort. one can't wear Sketchers or athletic shoes in the winter here, lol. I love all three that are shown, smiles. I am all about the first ones, lol ---I love well worn and well loved items, grin.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day, friend.
My little striped skechers lasted probably at least 6-7 years and I wore then every single day, as you can probably tell. I hated to throw them away, but they had finally worn holes in the bottom too, and if I stepped on anything wet I'd get my socks/feet wet, so out they had to go. I should have had a burial for them. LOL. I told Stacy above that I also have a black pair that I wear to church. I am all about comfort. I think they have some boots now too...you might want to check into it! Have a blessed and comfy whimsical day.
DeleteI think it's amazing that your favorite shirt has held up so beautifully, Pamela! Flannel shirts are perfect for chilly days. And you've reminded me here that I REALLY need to get a new pair of "tennis" shoes - Sketchers have been recommended to me, and you've just confirmed that they are probably the best bet.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Oh, yes, my flannel shirt holds up wash after wash. I just have to be careful not to splash bleach on it or some other kind of stain...that is usually how my favorite shirts get ruined...tea stains or bleach when I go crazy cleaning and forget what I have on... And I highly recommend Skechers. I couldn't survive w/o mine. They aren't cheap, but they are so comfy, and they last a long time, so to me they are worth every $$dollar...
DeleteI think you should turn it into a teddy bear shirt!
ReplyDelete"However, truly, what "outfit" are you wearing on your way to heaven? There is really only one outfit that will do, and that is to be clothed in the righteousness of Christ."
This is beautiful and so true, but it reminded me of something my SIL sent me. It was a photo of four women decked out in huge sunglasses and floppy hats and the caption said: Remember if you die today this will be your ghost outfit forever.
😂
I may do that when I find another shirt to replace it. Hubby and I got matching flannel shirts for Christmas this year, but his shrunk, so we gave them to our son and DIL to wear. I haven't found another one that I like as much as this one (that I can afford, i.e., at Walmart), so I will keep this one intact as long as possible until I find another one to replace it. I love the "photo" you described of the women...I like that caption. Funny!!!!
DeleteWhat a wonderful post and great segue into the Truth! Love that shirt, in fact, I just bought a blue and white plaid shift for my grandson to wear to his great-grandfather's funeral on Saturday. He's coming to Ohio from Texas and doesn't have very warm clothes. Now he will be warm and cute!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!!
I am sorry to hear of the passing of your grandson's great grandfather. I must go catch up on your posts to see what is going on. But I am glad that your sweet and cute little guy will have a nice warm flannel shirt to wear. I know he will treasure it...at least until he grows out of it. The nice thing about my shirt is I won't grow out of it (unless I really get very hungry and go crazy eating lots of pies and cookies! LOL).
DeleteWhen you find something comfortable that you like, hang on to it and wear it again and again. Once it's gone, worn out, turned to rags, you'll never find another. The voice of experience is talking! lol I had an old, baggy white sweater that I used as a housecoat...it was a long sweater. Oh it was so comfortable, soft, warm and cuddly and now it's gone. {{sigh}} I miss that old thing and I haven't found anything yet that I love as much. Living everyday looking for something to take it's place! lol
ReplyDeleteOh Mary, you sound so much like me! I don't know why I have a closet full of clothes that I hardly ever wear. If I could, I'd stay in the outfit always, at least until the weather gets warm again! Then I have favorites for summer too. Your long cuddly sweater sounds so nice. I wish you could find another. Just keep watching. Things have a way of coming back...
DeleteYes, it's cool today and we've had some sprinkles. I'm wearing jeans, socks, shoes (Sketchers), and a 3/4-sleeve knit T-shirt. To run to the store I added a fleece vest with pockets. It was enough.
ReplyDeleteI like your new perm!
I think it must be warmer at your house than ours! LOL. I can't get by with a 3/4 sleeve shirt today, although I had a hot flash earlier and took off my flannel shirt and put on a short sleeve shirt...and that lasted about 30 minutes and I was looking for my flannel again. LOL. I also went out to the store earlier, but I needed a knit hoodie (zip up) over my long sleeve t-shirt. Walmart was colder inside than it was outside. LOL. Glad your feet are warm and cozy in your Skechers. We should get a free pair for all the advertisement done on here today!! Have a blessed and whimsically happy day.
DeleteI enjoy my light flannel shirts this time of year. I don't think clothing counts after you are dead. It remains in the grave and deteriorates. It is the spirit that returns to God and counts anyway.
ReplyDeleteIt is very sunny with blue skies and 40F here today by the NJ seashore. A beautiful day !
I wear leather Indian moccasins inside the house and loafers outside for casual, pumas for walking and dressy shoes for formal things like religious stuff..etc.
Thank you, Ann. I totally agree that clothes don't really matter once we die. Our soul goes to be with the Lord immediately, and this old body will either return to the dust in the ground, or if we are cremated, it returns to dust rather quickly. Either way...I really don't care what they dress me in once I'm gone...I'm gone! But it was kind of a little "joke" between my sister and me that we figured Daddy loved that outfit so much, he might as well wear it into "eternity". I don't expect we will see him in that same outfit when we see him again some day. Your Indian moccasins sound comfy. I have to have some kind of support for my feet all the time, and the skechers have provided that support for me so I find that I want to wear them all the time. I do have some dressy shoes for church, but I also have a black pair of skechers that look quite fine with my black slacks when I wear them. When singing in the choir I need to have comfy shoes for all the standing. Glad you had a beautiful sunny day yesterday. 40 sounds good for you this time of year!
DeleteSketchers are the best!! Thanks for the shout out for my Whimsical Wednesday meme! Much appreciated and I am glad folks are finding it fun! I LOVE your flannel shirt, Pam. I did see a post yesterday about a teddy bear made out of a loved one's shirt and I really love that idea. The teddy bear would still match your bedspread! BUT... it looks like you have a lot more time to wear that shirt. It looks nearly new!
ReplyDeleteThank you, I hope to wear my flannel shirt for a while longer yet. But I do love the teddy bear idea too. I have a pattern for one as I was going to make one with some of Nanny's things, but just didn't get it done and kind of decided against it. I like the idea of making my bear while I am still living so I can enjoy it too! Kind of like flowers...don't wait to send them when I'm dead...I'd like to enjoy them now! LOL. (Except I prefer potted plants/flowers to cut flowers so they will last longer and I can plant them! LOL)
DeleteI enjoyed this post Pamela. I like the plaid shirt you are wearing too but I only have one (blue) plaid shirt and one (blue) plaid dress. I haven't worn either of them for a few years though when I did wear them I thought they were very cosy. I think making a stuffed bear out of your plaid shirt would be a lovely project. It seems you have trouble throwing things out, like the shoes full of holes. I can relate to that. I tend to hang on to everything as long as there is still some good wear in it for the house or for outside, lol or towels, sheets and so on. Let's say that this doesn't bode well for a clutter free house because in the meantime I buy new things and when you add it to the old things, well.... I'm trying to change.
ReplyDeleteYes, I did hang on to those shoes a lot longer than I should have, but I had to break in another pair for suitable "house wear" before I would throw them out. We live where there is a lot of sand outside, and no paved sidewalks or driveway, so it is necessary to have separate pairs of shoes for indoor and outdoor. I just have to remember to take off my house shoes before I run outside to get the mail or some other errand and put on my outdoor shoes, and then reverse that when I come back in. Sometimes I forget and then I have a mess to clean up. Life in the country. Yes, clutter is my nemesis, along with dust. I'm getting better since we moved. I did get rid of a lot of stuff and since we have a smaller house now I try to keep things picked up and put away better than before. It is a challenge!! Have a blessed day dear friend. I take it you are back from your travels. Hope your nephew is doing well.
