And the place where we celebrate marriages...
And most of all I love the preaching from God's Word...
I love that The Spirit of the Lord is in this place, and I can see Him in the faces of our people, our pastor, our children...I can feel Him in my heart as we sing, and pray and read God's Word together.
I know that Christ is present in our service, and He is with us when we reach out to a lost and dying world around us and share His love with those who are hurting...
I love my church. It doesn't matter to me the "name" of the church on the building. I know that "surely the presence of the Lord is in this place..."
Yes, I know that the United Methodist denomination has been in the news this weekend, and the news is very sad. They say that our denomination is going to "split", primarily over issues regarding what boils down to what we believe the Bible says about homosexuality. In other words, does God's Word tell us that it is an abomination to God, or should we just "rewrite the scriptures" to make it say what we want it to say so that people can go on living in sin... I am not going to give all the references here...because I know there are people who will say whatever they want to believe. But I will say that I believe God's Word, as originally written. I also believe that Christ came to redeem sinners from their sin...and like He said to the woman taken in adultery, when she was about to be stoned, "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more!" (Read John 8:1-11) Jesus didn't say, "Neither do I condemn you, now you go right back out there and continue to live in your sins..." No, Jesus said to go and sin no more.
The problem is, people don't want to admit that homosexuality is a sin, and our progressive, liberal teaching of this age is promoting this lifestyle as something to be sought after, to teach our little children, to encourage and approve of rather than to try and help those caught in this trap the way to freedom.
And thus, we have a denomination that wants to split over this issue...whether or not to perform marriages for homosexuals, or whether or not to ordain them into the ministry. Rather than teach what is truth from God's Word, they will force churches to make a choice and to take a stand one way or the other. I am very thankful that our local church is already taking a stand. I know which way our congregation will go, as we believe God's Word is true, and we will not allow this perverted ideology to be forced down our throats. We will, however, just as Christ loved the sinner and gave His life to redeem us, love those who are bound in this lifestyle, and will teach them truth from God's Word if they are willing to listen and learn, and we will share the love of Christ with them and pray that they will one day seek to be set free.
My heart goes out to those churches who may have to actually split their own congregations over this. There will be much sorrow in making these decisions over who will stay and who will get to keep the property, etc., and who will have to leave if they want to stand for the truth. It is heartbreaking that even families may have to make such choices. So I share this with you to ask you not to sit and pass judgment on this denomination, because sadly it is happening in many denominations in our land, and those who think it will never happen to them, be aware...and don't get caught unprepared. Our younger generation is being taught this lifestyle in preschools all the way up through colleges and even some seminaries. The progressive liberal agenda will not back down and many people are being deceived. Our future leaders will not know anything different unless we take a stand now.
Please pray for churches everywhere...pray for pastors, denominational leaders, church leaders, and the people in the pew next to you. We never know when we will be forced to take a stand and have to walk away from people that we love because we cannot agree on these and many other liberal issues that are taking over our nation.
Read about the future warnings to the churches as found in the book of Revelation, chapters 2 and 3. Then hear what Christ said to the churches at the end of the Church Age:
Beautiful. We had a small church like that when we lived in Alabama, unfort...the churches here in Western NY are well past the progressiveness and therefor, we haven't found a church home. I think I once said my husband was a chaplain and we have church here at home.
ReplyDeleteAND I must simply find a sign that says Prayer, now, sigh...never ending, Pamela, never ending, LOL.
I am so glad you have a forever church, smiles.
We did a home church for several years while we were taking care of my MIL on the weekends. Some of our friends joined us, and it was very special. But now we are happy to be back in a real church with music and people and good teaching. I will pray that God will lead you to a church sometime. I think we need the fellowship of other believers to help us stay grounded and encouraged. At least I do. I really missed it when we couldn't go. This little church is so full of the joy of the Lord, it just melted me into a pool of tears when we found it. I didn't realize how much I had missed it until we found this place. Prayer, never ending!
DeletePam, I read the entire article in our newspaper this morning. It is very sad indeed. One reason Joe and I chose to not go to the Methodist Church was just for this reason. I knew it was coming. We chose the conservative, Bible believing Presbyterian Church of America for this very reason. I agree it is not for us to judge. I agree that we are to love one another - love the sinner, hate the sin. I have homosexual friends and we have a gay nephew, but I don't want them on the alter of the church I attend and I don't agree that they can be married. I know what the Bible says. We must stand up for our beliefs.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri. I can imagine this is rocking the Lakeland area news, with Florida Southern College there, etc.,and I can imagine there are a lot of divided opinions. I am praying for our churches, our colleges, camps...this is going to impact so many people. If Pastors and churches and Seminaries would just stand firm on the Word of God, we wouldn't have these issues...but Satan is working overtime to try and destroy the church while he has time. But his days are numbered. I do believe the Lord is coming soon. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
DeleteThe Methodists went far afield when they joined with the Evangelical United Brethren and its been downhill ever since. Wesley is rolling in his grave.
ReplyDeleteGlad you have a place you like to go. Protestantism is too fractured and a house divided can't stand. Very sad. I hope things get better.
Yes, I can imagine how John Wesley must feel. I pray that when we do make this change, the new group that comes out of it will be even stronger than ever as they stand on God's Word. That is our only hope. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
DeleteAs I, too, am a United Methodist, my heart is breaking at the split that is surely to come from all of this. Pamela, your words here are so eloquent and heartfelt regarding this issue. No matter what, we all need to remember to love as Christ loves, and not turn away from those whose viewpoints differ from ours. We must all pray that the truth be revealed through Jesus to all of us.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, your church IS a beautiful one, inside and out. I'm so glad you've found a home that you love!
Blessings!
Thank you, Martha. We must pray for one another during this time, and encourage our brothers and sisters who may be forced to make decisions that are very difficult. May Christ continue to be the reason we gather to worship, to pray, and to share the Gospel of salvation to all. And yes, we feel very blessed to have found this church "home". I said when we first came to this church that I felt like I had finally come home. And I pray that no unholy agenda will ever be able to change that. Praying for all. There really are no winners in this battle. At least not here. But it is eternity that we must keep in view.
DeleteAmen.
ReplyDeleteOur pastor took the time to speak about the news from the dais yesterday. He reminded us that the ONLY group who can decide about this is the GENERAL CONFERENCE. It meets in May. I receive an online version of Good News Magazine. The latest thing the sent out was about this NEGOTIATED AGREEMENT. It told me that, if an amicable separation does happen, it could take a few years to become complete. And yes, I also am a United Methodist. I am a conservative, aka traditionalist.
ReplyDeleteYour church is beautiful. I love my church too and what it stands for - the Bible.
ReplyDeleteI love the building and love knowing a wonderful church family worships there.
ReplyDeletePamela, you wrote a very eloquent and powerful post. Such a beautiful way to share the great truth of God's word. We don't hate the sinner, but Jesus didn't come to save us and let us stay in our sin, but to deliver us from it. I'm thankful to hear that your little church has made its stand, and will pray that the Lord will continue to give you direction to navigate the journey forward in uncertain waters. This will continue to be a issue that is not going away, but will probably only magnify. Many blessings to you sweet friend!
ReplyDeleteCatching up on my blog reading this Sunday afternoon. I love the pictures you've taken of your church building, furnishings, and of course, the people.
ReplyDeleteBaptist Press had a lengthy article recently about the status of things with the UMC and like you, I grieved to see it.
