Anyway, my son gets home rather late at night (or early in the morning) from his job, and he had gone out to his car to get something, and when he started back to the house, all the motion lights came on and then he saw a bear standing at the front door. So he hollered at him and shone his bright flashlight at him, and the bear turned around and ran away into the woods.
The next day our neighbor saw a bear in the early evening in our neighbor's yard, which is behind our house.
Picture taken by my neighbor of the bear in the yard |
And I thought perhaps there was another deer in the back yard, but when I went back inside I saw the message and picture (see picture above) from my neighbor about the bear in the back yard, and apparently that is what the deer was trying to tell me! Amazing how God's creatures communicate with us...if we just learn to pay attention to the signs!!
Now, moving right along...Did I show you this picture of the bees all over this Sumac tree flower a week or so ago? I get confused about what I show on Facebook and what I show here, so "bear with me" again please...Anyway, this is the blossom of a sumac tree, and it was covered with all kinds of bees doing their job of pollinating and perhaps making honey somewhere?
Now, this week this is what the Sumac blossom looks like! It becomes a cluster of rich berries that the birds will just love in a few more weeks as they ripen and begin to dry...There should be plenty enough to go around because I have seen a bumper crop of these trees blossoming this year! I guess all the rain has really helped.
I DO hope they will be safe from harm...remember we used to be concerned about an alligator in the pond? Well, that doesn't seem to have been a real issue for them after all, but now I am more concerned about a two legged intruder with a big, noisy, very destructive "Airboat", who has moved into the neighborhood on the weekends from the city and brought his big toys with him and insists on playing with his big noisy, obnoxious airboat in this, what used to be, a peaceful and quiet little cove, filled with native birds, wildlife, and vegetation. I'm not sure what the rules are against such an intrusion, but I am hoping the residents who actually live on that pond will speak up and ask this newcomer to respect the peaceful coexistence between nature and humans that we have all enjoyed heretofore... I do not own property on the waterfront, so do not have a voice, however, the noise factor alone is enough to disturb the peace of the whole neighborhood nearby. I don't know whose idea the invention of airboats was, but I'm definitely NOT a fan.
Okay, enough complaints...thank you for "bearing with me" in this. I had to vent a little... Pray that I will keep a sweet and positive attitude should I be faced with these new weekend "neighbors"...
Let's end on a positive note, shall we?
Beautiful reflection of clouds on the pond. I would not like to meet a bear at my front door! You have reminded me how much I like S'Mores! Have a blessed weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post. I love reading about and seeing your wildlife. We have birds and bunnies and even deer, but not bears! I think knowing bears were that close might scare me a bit about being out after dark. Keep safe and keep showing up pictures. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy seeing your photos. There definitely are two bears. The one has noticeably thinner legs than the other. You have air boats and we sometimes have motorcycles that take away the peace and quiet here. Peace and Blessings.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your wildlife visitors. You have a fabulous yard. Beautiful colors in the sunset too!
ReplyDeleteAs I've said many times before, I always look forward to your Friday photos, Pamela. Wish I could see them a bit better through these lousy glasses, but by this time next week, they should be crystal clear. I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you!
Can you imagine opening your front door and finding a bear standing there ready to come in? WOW! I've always heard that they are more afraid of us than we are of them, unless it is a mama protecting her young. This incident with your son proves that to be true.
ReplyDeleteI was so sad to hear about the guy with noisy airboat. It is sad for both humans and wildlife.
Airboats are indeed noisy things, but I do enjoy an airboat ride. They have their place, and a quiet cove would not be a good place for them. Sad. As always, I love your nature photos, especially of the bears! How scary to come home and find a bear waiting for you on the front porch. Your son was courageous to just shoo him away!
ReplyDeleteDid your son have to stay in the car for a while? Have any bears ever tried to get in your house? I would be so afraid! That's too bad about the guy with the airboat disturbing your peaceful cove. Maybe the others will get together and see what can be done. It really would be hard to bear! I'm so glad you don't have an alligator. Do you ever see big snakes? I love the bees and the sumac and its changes.
ReplyDeleteNo, actually the bear ran away rather quickly. Our son did wait to be sure he was gone before he went up on the porch, but these bears around here normally run when they see us. If they don't, then is when to be concerned. We have never had one try to actually get in the house, but they have destroyed sections of our privacy fence to try and get to the bird feeders before. (my bad). Yes, I am praying about the airboat issue. I haven't heard it yet this weekend. Maybe they haven't come yet. But I am praying it will be resolved amicably. Yes, we do see big snakes, but normally the "good kind"...black snakes, rat snakes...they eat rodents and other "bad snakes", but also eat baby birds, which I don't like to see happen. I mostly appreciate the wildlife we have here and have not been afraid of it. God protects our home and we are very thankful.
DeleteWHAT AN INTERESTING POST!!!! Loved the pictures and stories about the deer, bears, and sand hill cranes. And the bees, too.
ReplyDeleteAir boats. I don't know much at all about them, but from your description, I would not like them.
