Thursday 6 and Thursday Thankfulness...

Happy Thursday friends!  I just discovered that one of our blogging friends, Syl, from her blog, Sylify, is hosting this "Thursday 6" meme each week. I guess it's been around before, but she is reviving it, so it might be fun to join in if you can.  Here's this week's questions:

Linking to Thursday 6 HERE

Welcome!!

1. When was the last time you were standing on a balcony or balcony like construction? Where was it? What were you doing?
I guess you could say our back porch is a lot like a balcony, as it overlooks our back yard and Still Waters Pond.  I am out there frequently, either to feed our newest family members, the "neighborhood cats" Blackie Sue and Sunshine,

or to look at the Sand Hill Cranes and their new baby Colts, "Spring" and "Trumpet",

or also to watch the Canada Geese couple who are currently standing out there on the edge of the pond taking a nap, literally:

Or to shoo away the three Muscovy Ducks, who seem to have decided that our porch and yard are theirs to claim...even to the point of eating the cat's food while the cat lays there and lets them do it...

And then to make a flying leap into the pond from the porch when I come along and tell them to get a move on!

The view from the porch the other morning...one duck and two geese...

2. Share with us one of your favorite recipes.
There are so many, but I was thinking about this one today and bought some blueberries so I can make them soon: Blueberry Bran Muffins -click HERE for blog post with recipe

3. What was the last thing done to your house?
It's been a while since we did anything special to the house.  When we first moved here almost 6 years ago we did a LOT.  But since then it's been mostly just normal maintenance. Click HERE for when we added the back porch roof, which is the same porch I was talking about in question #1.

Oh, after thinking about it, I remember now! The last major thing we did was install new vinyl plank floors in our living room, master bedroom, and my "Room With a View".  HERE is a link to when that was being done.   And HERE is a link to when it was completed, with a surprise visit from another blogger!

4. Did your grandmother give wise lessons? Please share one with us.
I honestly do not remember having a lot of conversations with either of my grandmothers. My maternal grandmother lived too far away, and when we did visit, she was often not well and so there was no real time to sit down and visit with her. My paternal grandmother lived close by and I saw her often, for all holidays especially. Probably the best lessons she gave was that she was a good cook and she shared some recipes with me for some of our favorite foods.  This link leads to one of the pages in my sidebar, "It's Recipe Thyme Again, More Family Favorites", and some of her best recipes that I remember are added there.

5. Do you like going to the hairdresser? Why? or why not?
I don't mind it. As a matter of fact, I just went this morning and got my hair cut. This new hairdresser I have now (at Walmart!) does a great job. I've had some bad experiences with others in the past, and so one thing I do not like is having to find a new hairdresser when one fails or one retired that I liked.

6. Do you plan a vacation far ahead, or are you more of a "last minute" person?
To take a real vacation takes some planning for us.  We are not very spontaneous about traveling/vacations anymore. It takes money too, so we have to plan ahead for that. I am thankful that our kids like to plan some trips that we actually go together and share the expenses. That was what we did this past fall when we went to the mountains.Link HERE to last vacation  Plus, hubby doesn't like to drive long distances anymore, and we really don't like to fly either unless we absolutely have to. So unless the kids go with us, we probably won't be taking anymore vacations.

Well, you know the drill.
Answer the questions on your blog or in the comments.
If on your blog, place there a link to this post.
And place a link of your post in the comments here.

Thank you for participating.

Thank YOU, Syl, for these interesting and fun questions!  I hope others will catch on and join in from now on.

I have to add one more picture...remember yesterday HERE, when I shared a picture of our Kitty Sunshine and also a picture of a sign that said "You are My Sunshine"?  And I said I wished I could figure out how to merge the two pictures together? Well, our friend Sandra over at MadSnapper N Beau, is the queen of figuring out fun stuff with pictures, and she sent me a message with this picture that she created from my two pictures:

Isn't that amazing?  I love it!! Thank you so much, Sandra! I don't know how you did it, but I sure love it!   Oh, and thank you to all of you who commented and enjoyed the pictures yesterday, especially the ones of Sunshine and the "Guard Kitty", as seen above. It was a funny story for sure.

And in closing, this little message from yesterday's devotional calendar says it best:

God does love and care for us, "even to the least evenet and smallest need of life".  That is very comforting to know.  Nothing escapes His knowledge or concern for us, and He is always there, ready to meet our every need. Sometimes we just forget to ask!

Matthew 7:7-8 NKJV

Keep Asking, Seeking, Knocking

7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find;
knock, and it will be opened to you.
8 For everyone who asks receives,
and he who seeks finds,
and to him who knocks it will be opened."
Amen!

  1. You have some fun and beautiful sights from your "balcony"!
I saved the muffin recipe. I've never had bran muffins with blueberries and they sound so good!
Mad Snapper is so talented - she did good!

    1. Thank you. I love the blueberry/bran muffins, but also have an oatmeal one that is good. Just don't eat too many of the bran ones at once. Bran does have an effect that you need to be aware of! LOL.

  2. This was fun, Pam! I think your back porch qualifies as a balcony and it is a great place to be entertained by so many critters! I love your photos!! Sunshine's picture is perfect! Your blogger friend is an artist, indeed!! Sending a hug!! xo

  4. Aww! So glad that MadSnapper could help you with merging the photos, Pamela. So cute of Sunshine and her wanna-be! And as Terri and Mari have noted above, you certainly have a balcony with a view. Blessings!

  5. I have always wanted a porch, my maternal grandmother had the old cracker house with 3 sides a screen porch. I loved it but the view from yours is much better.. all that wild life. those ducks will become a big pain in the butt and you can't get rid of them.. I was about to say put the food up high, but forgot they can get as high as you can reach.
to me your are smack dab in the middle of paradise where you are.

    1. Yes, we are already wishing the ducks would fly away somewhere else. They think they own the place and keep eating the cat food, and the cat just lets them do it! And yes, they can fly up on the roof, up in the trees, anywhere they want. They aren't afraid of anything apparently, and they are starting to "litter" our back yard with you know what. SO, I am thinking a lot about how to do a fricasseed duck...LOL. (not really...too much trouble and grease). But HOW DO you get rid of them???

  6. Thank you so much for stopping by my place. I've enjoyed your blog each time I have stopped in and I'm looking forward to reading more about your awesome place. Looks absolutely gorgeous around there. I remember when a big porch was the thing!! The place where everyone gathered. I would love to have a big ol' wide porch to hang out on. Happy Friday...

    1. Thank you, Shug. Our porch sitting days have to be either in the fall, winter or spring before April or May. It gets way too hot out here in the summertime, so we enjoy looking outside from inside the cool AC house most of the time. LOL.

  7. Good Morning Pam! It's good to be back reading about your wonderful life on Stillwater's Pond. The cranes had two babies again and I missed it! I'm going to have to go back and read your previous posts.
    1. I was on our balcony just a few minutes ago listening to the wind as it blow about 25 mph already this morning!
    2. I just made a family favorite, Economy Beef Stronganoff. I'll try to remember to post the recipe next time I blog.
    3. Dennis mounted a TV on the wall in our bedroom yesterday. It was only $88 at Walmart! When I was so sick a few weeks ago we realized it would be nice to have as a distraction when not feeling well.
4.My maternal grandmother died when my Mom was only 14 years old so I never met her. My paternal grandma taught me to crochet, sew, bake and cook. I have wonderful memories of her. She passed just months after Dennis and I got married.
    5. I don't mind getting my haircut. I go to Great Clips and just take whoever I get.
    6. We usually plan quite far ahead unless it's a simple camping trip to the nearby state park. We will sometimes go there with just a day or two of planning. We know we can get home quickly to Mom if need be.

It's fun to get back into the rhythm of blogging again.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

    1. Welcome Back Betsy! I've missed you! So glad you are back "into the rhythm" of blogging again! Oh, I enjoyed your answers to all of the questions above. They all sound great...especially the Beef Stroganoff. Be sure to let us know when you post it. Your nice quick simple camping trips sound so nice. I am very tempted to splurge and get a camper so we can do that too, but then we'd have to get a truck to haul it..and so on and so on, so maybe we'll just get a tent and camp in the yard. LOL. Still I'd love to do that someday. Thanks for visiting again. So glad to see you here.

  8. Love, love, love your Sunshine photo. Sandra did an awesome job for you.
I love all your views from the balcony. Its a perfect place to observe your World.
I sure need to go to the hair dresser for a cut and perm. Wish it wasn't so expensive. I keep whacking away at mine but I can't do the layered back at all. This Shaggy dog is getting desperate.
    Fun stuff today, Pam.

    1. I used to get perms too, but decided to stop because they are so expensive and not really that good for your hair. I finally found a stylist who knows what I want and how to do it. I hope she doesn't go away. They are hard to find! I can't do the back of my hair by myself. I do the top and sides okay in between cuts, but the back is too hard to reach.

  9. Hi Pamela! This was a fun post. I enjoyed reading your answers. That kitty photo in the "You are my sunshine" frame is priceless! It seems like we are always doing some sort of home improvement. The last thing we did was new quartz countertops in our kitchen and we did that in January. Before that, it was two completely redone bathrooms and converting an old family room into a 5th bedroom. When we sell this house and move to another one, there will be more to do, I'm sure. We are already planning our vacations and road trips for the rest of the year. We really enjoy getting away and seeing new things. I hope you have a good weekend. See you again soon!

  10. 1. Balconies (and the like): we tend to avoid stairs these days but in January we rode an elevator to the 5th floor of a medical building overlooking the St Johns River. The view in the doctor’s waiting room was fascinating.
    2. One of my favorite recipes is my chocolate chip cookies, which everybody has. Per Betty Crocker's recommendation, I add an extra 1/2 cup of flour to the 3 cups called for. That extra flour helps the cookies to rise better and turn out so soft and chewy.
    3. What was the last thing done to your house? We bought replacements for the 2 pendant lights hanging over our kitchen counter.
    4. Yes, my grandmother taught me that squatting is not a good position for women if they do it often and for long periods of time — especially if they have given birth to children. Squatting tends to push out what needs to stay inside — if you follow my meaning. (Just frank, wise counsel from one experienced woman to another.)
    5. I’m not wild about getting my hair cut because I wear it short and have had far too many cut it waaaay too short, so I’ve done it myself many, many times. However, eventually I have to get it done professionally to bring the chaos back into some order.
    6. We plan ahead in this household.

The Sunshine photo is amazing; so clever!!

    1. #4, I wish someone had told me that before it was too late! LOL. Although I don't really remember squatting all that much...I think things happen to women who have given birth to children, especially very large children like mine were, regardless of whether or not you squat too much. LOL. #2, I may have to try doing that so the cookies will stay softer and chewier. Mine end up getting so hard after they sit for a day or two. But putting a piece of bread in with them will soften them back up. Thanks for playing along.

  11. For sure, Sandra's brilliant when it comes to projects like this. The merge came out wonderfully! Finding just the right hairdresser can be such a stressful time -- I well remember the angst I felt when we moved here. Seriously, lol. Since 'someone' learned his lesson about flying by the seat of one's pants years ago, I think it's safe to say we're Planners.
Great post; I'm looking forward to next week's prompts!
